Thanks so much for watching!
PLEASE REACT TO "SPIRIT: STALLION OF THE CIMARRON"! 😭💔🔥
Ok . . So I can speak conversational German. But what I find reduculous is the translation is nothing like the words. It's so stupid
Pretty sure the glowing boobs was an E.T.: THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL reference. E.T.'s heart would glow when he became emotional.
Trivia about Peter Cushing in this (Tarkin): Because they had to make a mold of his head to create the enlarged eye gag for this film, the makers of Rogue One were able to obtain that mold to get an accurate scan of Peter Cushing's head for the digital recreation of Tarkin!
Well East and West Germany didnt exist until after the war, the movie is set in 1984! But with Nazi left in for lauffs!
Top Secret will forever confuse people who've never seen the blue lagoon with that one sequence. :D
Yup, without that knowledge, the entire scene is just nonsense.
Eh... A different kind of nonsense. 😀
Yeah it’s not like they’ll ever do a reaction to BL either
Or had to deal with the Montgomery Ward's mailing list.
@@Gealaichedeserved lmfao that movie sucks shit
I still die laughing when Nick talks about getting lost in the mall as a child and he said, "Well, it was the Lincoln's Semi-Annual Birthday Sale and they asked me to help out in pre-teen maternity."......LMAO
For more comedic genius from Val Kilmer . . . Look no further than . . . Real Genius . . . a must!
It’s a moral imperative.
I literally watched Real Genius on youtube last night. one of my favorite 80s movie
Love real genius. Great movie
"Real Genius"..."Big Bang Theory" for the 80's!!
I was coming to the comments to make this comment. You guys would LOVE it
Fun fact: This movie opened in theaters the same day as Gremlins and Ghostbusters. Talk about a great weekend to go to the movies 😁
Interesting way to kill your movie too
What would we call that event? Grembustersecret?
Val Kilmer needs credit for doing all his actual singing in this movie.
He got credit since this movie is partly why he got picked to portray Jim Morrison in The Doors (1991) - in which he also sang
20:40 “this is the dumbest fight I’ve ever seen”. Ok, but have you ever seen an underwater saloon fist fight?
I was thinking kung-fu cow fight.
Almost exactly what I said at the same point.
The genius of the Zucker/Abrahams comedies is that the main characters were always playing it straight. it was only the situations around them that were insane.
It's Like Graham Chapman plays the role of King Arthur and Brian.
When he wasn't drunk, je plays everything straight.
@@danielmcbriel1192 That's a nice comparison. It's also surprising how good Chapman was as a straight actor.
Absolutely! I remember watching the directors' commentary for Airplane, and how Robert Stack didn't get the jokes. He was friends with Lloyd Bridges, though, who told him "We are the joke." The fact that actors of their caliber were playing the same roles they would be playing in the serious movies that Airplane was lampooning, and doing it straight, was the joke.
Honestly, the fact that they got Omar Sharif (Doctor Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia) to do this movie, is just insanely cool. 😀
And he also deeply enjoyed being in a comdey.
I rewatched LoA a few days ago. It's arguably my fav movie, competing with Gandhi and Raiders of the Lost Ark.
@@cshubsYea LOA is my favorite movie of all time. People are surprised when I tell them that.
@@genericnamehere7602 Let's not forget that Sharif reunited here with composer Maurice Jarre, who did the scores and won 2 Best Original Score Oscars for both those David Lean epics.
Not to mention, in the same year (1984) as _Top Secret!,_ Jarre composed the score and won his 3rd Best Original Score Oscar for _A Passage to India,_ David Lean's final film.
Not as legendary an actor as Mr Sharif, but Leslie Nielsen was also a dramatic actor before "Airplane!" Not so much after that.
Val's first movie after graduating from Juilliard. From what I remember he didn't want this movie, scared of getting comedy typecast. But he could sing and dance. The Doors is another great example of his singing. What a bummer he got throat cancer. Very talented man.
The island story was Blue Lagoon
Good eye
Was looking for this before I posted that it was Blue Lagoon.
Came to say this
Yep! Me too.
One of my favorite gags in this movie is the way it can't decide if it's set in WW2 Germany or cold war East Germany, and just randomly goes with whichever seems to fit the plot at any given moment.
Not only did Michael Gough play Alfred in the Tim Burton Batman movies, but also in Batman Forever with Val Kilmer as Bruce Wayne/Batman.
Yes! I've seen this movie a ton of times, but didn't even put together that these two actors were in TWO movies together until the gents pointed him out during this reaction video 🤣 That BLOWS my mind. I wonder if they talked about it on the BATMAN FOREVER set.
Hot take - even though it wasn't the best Batman movie, I still think Val Kilmer was the best Live-Action Batman.
I agree. He makes a great Bruce Wayne too.
He was also the original Toymaker in Doctor Who!
Val Kilmer's film debut! this one is a treat!
It was hilarious to hear them talk about how they can't imagine Val in a comedy. Guess they haven't watched Real Genius yet either.
@@jxchamb or kiss kiss bang bang

You have to add Willow as a top Val Kilmer movie ❤ always loved this one too 😂
Peck peck peck peck peck!
Absolutely! One of the best fantasy movies of all time!
Yes! Madmartigan was the best of all the 80s adventure movie heroes in my eyes.
The cow wearing boots ALWAYS cracks me up
What andy Griffith did before
Crocs would be more likely😂
For me it's when he moo's in a French accent
Cows wearing boots you got to believe me. I saw it, I saw it with my own two eyes.
Surely you've seen Val Kilmer in Tombstone too? If not, get on it!!!
Tombstone's on our list! Neither of us have seen it so we're excited to do a video on it eventually
Oh man Im jealous of you getting to see it for the first time
I'll be your Huckleberry
I think it's Kilmer's best role, and I say that as someone who has loved him in every single movie he's ever been in.
@NiceDudeMovieNight
Add willow to your list too!
Also the beach scene was a parody of blue lagoon starring Brooke shields. It was a highly controversial film at the time so that scene was much more topical back then
Val Kilmer sang all the songs for this himself in the studio. This movie is what convinced the casting director of The Doors to offer him the role of Jim Morrison.
And I believe the background singers were actually singers for Elvis as well.
When it comes to visual gags, Top Secret has no equal! The perspective gags in particular are AMAZING.
Did they do the bit from Father Ted? "One more time, Dougal. This cow is small. Those cows are far away."
The backwards scene did have the actor that was Tarkin in Star Wars. Extra fun it was because this movie made a mold of that actors face to create the eye prosthetic that the mold was available for Lucas Film to use it to help create the CG face of Tarkin in Rogue One.
You beat me by 5 hours :)
Such a good movie.
Fun fact. They used the prosthetic mold of Peter Cushing to create part of the facial model for Tarken in rogue one.
Fun fact: Peter Cushing lived in Whitstable.
@@GrainneMhaol Fun Fun Fact: a local band wrote a song about him buying vegetables.
What a downgrade
@@MegaBorusse1900 Fun fun fun fact: He was regularly seen on his bicycle.
But they used a cast with a big eye, that's why he looks so fucked up in Roque One ;)
The amount of effort that went into making gags that lasts 2 seconds. Crazy
Real Genius is pretty great too
Ice is Nice!
The most underrated Zucker/Abrahms film.
Hell yeah, Top Secret.
Hell yeah indeed
You guys gotta watch Hot Shots Part Deux! It's one of the most hilarious movies ever. Right up there with Airplane and Top Secret!
Good one guys. Thats the legendary and fabulous Omar Sharif in the beginning, in the trenchcoat. He made his first movie appearance in the epic Lawrence Of Arabia.
Still hillarious they got him for that role. Amazing actor.
Not only was Omar a great actor, he was also a world class Bridge player.
But he was most famous for starring in "Doctor Zhivago".
Déja Vu is played by Jim Carter, who also plays Carson the butler in Downton Abbey.
Chocolate Mouse is played by Eddy Tagoe, Presuming Ed in Withnail and I.
Yeah, I had a feeling I had seen him before.
I'll never be able to unsee that now! 🤣
@@2old4gamezHe's on the ship that Indy uses to get to the island in Raiders of the Lost Ark
@Ozrichead There is a scene in Downton Abbey where Mr. Carson sternly talks to maid Daisy about her having to grow up and face the consequences of her actions. I was convinced he was going to sneeze and then jump out of the window! 😂😂
The Other Life for the Female Lead was a reference to the movie Blue Lagoon starring Brooke Shields.
Hillary's deserted island story is a riff on the movie Blue Lagoon with Brooke Shields that had come out recently. I don't recommend it, but just so you know.
How can blue lagoon come out recently if Top Secret came out decades ago?
Val Kilmer's next movie, Real Genius, is an awesome comedy you should do next.
Just made a comment to this effect as well! 😁
This movie is genuinely one of the most technically impressive films ever. The effects are incredible
this movie is terminally silly and goofy, i love it man lmfao
I’m glad you caught that Michael Gough was Alfred, but did you realize he and Val Kilmer reunited in Batman Forever?
I first saw this after getting really stoned and going to a Chinese buffet with a buddy of mine. During lunch he mentioned this movie and I said I never saw it, so we went straight to the video store and rented the VHS tape. Such a great movie. I also stole a soup spoon from the restaurant that I cherished for years until it got lost.
Fun fact, the head mold they made from Peter Cushing for the magnifying glass effect was the same one that was scanned to CGI him into Rogue One.
Also the most underrated gag in the film has to be near the start when they're showing Nick's hit songs as Skeet Surfing plays, and they're all about skeet shooting.
Sight gags are something that you dont see a lot of anymore in movies. This has always been a classic of mine and im glad you guys enjoyed it.
This movie has so many surreal set pieces but my favorite gag in it is the one with the Janitor's Closet. Omar Shariff, the spy who was compacted inside his car, was an actor in many epic drams including Dr. Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia. Having an actor of such gravity playing comedy straight-faced is a wonder.
My Grandmother was a huge fan of these older, long epic movies like Zhivago or Ben Hur.
When she got older, I visited her and we sat in her living room, chatting and watching TV when Top Secret came on while zapping, and my dear old Grandma *literally* said "Shit, is that Dr Zhivago?" From that on she was totally invested in the movie.
@@agp11001 Great anecdote. It had to be fun seeing her so into the movie after that discovery. She had to have been rolling when he arrived after being compacted with his car.
@@bighuge1060 The real kicker was Grandma using actually using the word "shit" (or "Scheiße", as we're Austrian) - she wasn't above swearing, but she barely used that particular word.
And yeah, she thoroughly enjoyed it. Used that to introduce her to the rest of the classics - Naked Gun, Hot Shots, Airplane... naturally, a lot of the movie references didn't click as she barely saw any of the relevant movies, but she still laughed a whole lot.
Val does all his own singing in this. In The Doors too, which is definitely worth checking out.
5:18 The start of the dance is the same dance Maria and the Captain do during the party in "The Sound of Music". After a while Maria claims she doesn't remember the rest of the dance - that's where it gets goofy in this film!
The best Val Kilmer comedy is Real Genius. A must watch!
Love your reactions. I was cracking up watching y’all crack up. 40 years later and this movie never stops delivering the laughs, even when you know the gags by heart. I think this may have been Val Kilmer’s first leading role.
I have not even heard of this movie! I found out what I’m watching for movie night tonight! Thanks guys for the review but I need to watch this in its entirety!
Oh, you’re in for such a good time. I’ve watched this movie so much over the years, and I’m still not sure if I’ve caught every joke in it. Have fun!
I go back and forth with Airplane! and this and can't figure out which one is funnier. I guess they're tied. Like cartoons in live action.
How many actors do you know that you absolutely love every movie they are in , love you Val
Tarkin is Peter Cushing. He and Christopher Lee were Hammer Studio's big money making pair in the 60s and 70s. Cushing played Van Helsing to Lee's Dracula, and Dr. Frankenstein to Lee's monster. You guys should definitely check it out.
Woah that sounds awesome!
In those Hammer Studio films, Cushing often did look for clues using a big magnifying glass. So that is part of the gag here.
@@NiceDudeMovieNight They SO are, I love Peter Cushing and his films!! Especially those with Christopher. The Gorgon is a personal favorite because it's also got Patrick Troughton. You'll have a wonderful time with those, I'd love to see you react to them! 😄
Hearing you guys laugh reminds me of when my friend and I went to see this when we were 15. After the movie ended we sat there for about 10 minutes laughing til we cried over every part of it. We didn't notice until we got up to leave that there was a group of teenage boys who had stayed to laugh at US. It was a little embarrassing at the time but it's a funny memory now. This movie is hilarious no matter how many times I see it.
Val Kilmer is Moses in Prince of Egypt, a DreamWorks film from the 90s!
6:06 Looked it up, it just means "cheerful."
See, with the Zucker Brothers and Jim Abrahams, you can always tell theyre going for the parody angle Mel Brooks likes doing a lot in his movies... whether that works out well depends on the movie. The Naked Gun was probably their best work, imo.
11:15 I’m 47 and I still have occasional nightmares about being in school.
Same! It’s crazy how often I’ll wake up from a “I forgot my math homework” nightmare 😭😂
An absolute must comedy with Val Kilmer is Real Genius. Also, another great parody movie you should react to is Johnny Dangerously with Michael Keaton. It parodies gangster movies.
I second Johnny Dangerously.
My muddah did a movie reaction once. Once.
Love this movie. Even when a joke doesn't land, you get a good one the very next moment so you never really stop laughing.
In this film, Omar Sharif has in common with Leslie Nielsen, a past career of serious acting-suddenly turned to comedy gold; Peter Cushing too, I suppose.
This movie is basically a Cold War themed "Blazing saddles" spoof.
I love this movie so much! "Is this the Potato Farm? - Yes. I am Albert Potato" 😂 The singing horse nearly ended me when I first saw it 😂 And the cow with the boots 🤣
I love how many jokes you missed, please watch this again and again
There’s just so many 😂. We’ll definitely watch it again on our own!
You also seem confused that the movie is set in WWII. It isn't. Note that they show East & West Berlin, and although the East German uniforms are visually similar to N*zi uniforms, they are not. @@NiceDudeMovieNight
I think they are trying to hard to be clever to catch a lot of stuff.😁
Correct. There are some movies, & this is one, Airplane is another, that the second you laugh at one joke, you miss the next joke & you're laughing, a lot. That's one of the reasons this has such a wide appeal & cult following. Also I'm 70, & got a completely different set of jokes from this in the theater 30 years ago than a 30 year old gets from it on RUclips today. But we both can't stop laughing & we both tell each other what a funny movie it is. Unaware 1/2 the jokes we were laughing at, the other person didn't catch.
One of the best comedies of all time!
25:27 The large watch kills me everytime I watch it 😂
Great reaction you guys!
This movie is a comedy masterpiece.
What a wild swing for a movie. Glad you guys enjoyed it.
You guys should check out another great Val Kilmer film (his best role in my opinion), Tombstone. It is a fantastic western and Val steals the scenes he is in. Also, Val Kilmer was originally a theatre kid who trained at Julliard! That's why he can dance pretty well.
Deserted island scene a spoof on the 1980 movie Blue Lagoon (Brooks Shields and Christopher Atkins).
Another good comedic movie with Val Kilmer, I would suggest the movie Real Genius.
Thanks again dudes.
This and "What's Up, Doc?" are my two favourite comedy movies
Don't worry about the hiccups, perfect timing 😂
I kept thinking of that scene in _Holy Grail,_ “Oh, go and get a glass of water!” 😄
Thank you! Far too few reviews
eactions to this absolute gem. Glad to see you having so much fun with it, great reaction guys. It is definitely worth watching the Swedish bookstore scene as it was originally filmed. Also, 'Is this the Potato farm?'
Albert Potato may not be a giant in his field, but he can certainly tell you a thing or two about who is and isn’t Mel Torme.
Oh my god I am so ready for this
Watched this movie so many times... It's a gem.
Great you guys watched it.
Take note, at 0:56 when the motorcycle rider comes in, he takes off his helmet but the straps stay on his face... Painted 😂
Forgot how much I loved this movie as a kid. Thanks for bringing it back!
The guy running after the moving tree and jumping on it gets me everytime. Just a complete visual non-sequitur.
One of my all time favourite comedies yay! "Souvenirs, novelties, party tricks" and "Latrine!" are permanently stuck in my head, the first one has become kind of a mantra to me 🤣
FYI you can find the original soundtrack on vinyl featuring all of Nick Rivers' songs
*Val Kilmer released an ACTUAL SOUNDTRACK as Nick Rivers...
*Omar Sharif (Dr. Zhivago) crushed car
*Peter Cushing (Star Was) is the Bookstore Proprietor & the dialogue is played backwards to create a different "new" language
Comedy masterpiece.
Love ya Dudes! Your channel is a gift that keeps on giving. Cheers! 💖
This was Val's first movie
The scene in the pizza restaurant is a copy of Elvis singing “I Got A Woman” in his film “Loving You”. The name Nick Rivers is also influenced by this movie, because Elvis uses the name Deke Rivers in it, which you find out is something his character adopted to cover up his actual identity.
The Diner scene was a parody of the scene from the Elvis movie Loving You. In that movie, Elvis played a guy named Deke Rivers who was a small town boy that got discovered by accident and became a singing sensation.
And in the concert scene, a sign held up reads "VELCOME NEEK!" which rhymes with Deke! Of course the joke is more on German accents but hey.
Wow, this movie was even funnier than I remembered! I was so happy to hear how happy the dance and the backwards scene made you. Top Secret is comedy genius. Great reaction, guys, and the hiccups were too cute. 😄
Real Genius is great too
one of the best parts of this movie is that Val actually sang and recorded the songs as Nick and they are on the films soundtrack
Im here early and it happens to be one of my favorite comedies. YESS
Woooooo! 🎉
As a Swede I can confirm that we all talk like that.....
Well, at least you don’t all sound like Maurice Chevalier.
I believe this was Val Kilmers first staring role.
For a lesser known comedy, it has some of the most amazing visuals. The underwater fight is genius
"This is the dumbest fight I've ever seen!"
And you LOVED it!!
Mind hunters and The Salton sea are two really good Val Kilmer movies.
The backwards sequence is almost flawless. If you look though, Val Kilmer has to very slightly search for the doorknob at the start/end. Which, considering he'd just done that whole scene and made those book catches and walked 12 feet backwards, isn't too shabby.
Wait…
How have I not heard of this film before…?
Either way nice work on this.
"Top Secret" and "Real Genius" not only were frequently played on our VCR growing up in the 80s, but they both made me a lifelong fan of Val Kilmer Kilmer.
OMG... you guys need to watch Real Genius with Val Kilmer... dude is great in comedies.
I absolutely LOVE how y'all just dive into the film...getting us right away! Well done! And I grew up on this classic spoof! The 80s were the pinnacle of comedy!
Another great Val Kilmer flick is "Thunderheart". More mystery than comedy.
IIRC, hiccups are caused by cramps in the diaphragm (the muscle just underneath the ribcage, slightly below the solar plexus). So what you do to relax the muscle is you raise your elbows to shoulder-height and take several deep slow breaths, count to seven and then let them out slower than you inhaled. It also works for when you're really tired and yawn a lot.
I just LOVE you enthusiasm & laughter. Such great commentaries !!
A fabulous film. Filled with the humor of ZaZ.
I actually thought it wasn't the Zucker brothers for a while.
one of the movies that remind us what a star val kilmer was. ❤
Love that film so much, thanks for the reaction guys!
one of my all time favourite movies, it never fails to make me laugh.
i Highly Recommend Real Genius & Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, both are great Comedies with Val Kilmer in them (it's a shame he didn't do more Comedy because he's great in them), also Willow which he's amazing in.
Oh, hell yes to Willow.
Nobody gonna mention MacGruber?!
OK you're all probably right to do that.
Kilmer is still extremely funny in it, though.
This movie is one of my favorites of all time. The whole library sequence will forever live in my memory as comedy genius for me.
I havent seen this movie in so many years, and I feel like I was right there with you guys, laughing along 🤣
Thanks for the laughs, your videos are awesome! 👍
This is one of my favorite comedies of all time.
I haven't even watched y'all's reaction yet, but I don't need to in order to know I'm subscribing for sure.
I love your reactions, and only wish you could do them more often!
