It is the year 2124. Jamie Moyer is on his 12th comeback tour since retiring at age 99. His pitches have become so slow they actually go back in time, hitting the catcher's mitt before the ball leaves his hand. He isn't just the starting pitcher for an MLB team, he's the starting pitcher for EVERY MLB team. No one has scored a run in 3 years.
Dang it, I wanted to see that
I'd like to believe he got the new Cyborg arm, but tweaked it himself to throw his speed and everyone can't hit it because they are used to 150mph now.
It is the year 3000. Jamie Moyer's head in a jar is in his 23rd comeback. His pitches still confound batters with how slow and accurately placed they are.
I too want to see the reverse tachyon changeup live...guess I need to live another 100 years.
I laughed like a seal at this.
Alternate Title: 1000 Ways to Call Jamie Moyer Old
Lol
This one was a bit overdone...
Literally what i was thinking
Basebal Doesn't Exist get to the point within a sane amount of time challenge. Difficulty Level: Impossible

My favorite Jamie Moyer commercial was during his Seattle days. Jamie's throwing in spring training and the radar gun is showing 97-99. One of the guys asks, 'Is that in miles?' and Wilson (Seattle's main catcher at the time) said, 'No, it's in kilometers. Jaime got it in France and seems to like it.' Still funny to this day if you ever watch Jamie pitch.
And I thought nothing would beat marshawns beacon plumbing commercial. QUIT FREAKIN'! CAWLL BEACON!
Another dub for the metric system

I also liked the one where the throws "The ol Jamie Moyer changeup" and the batter and Dan Wilson have an entire conversation while the ball is in the air.
The best part was the "Ooh la la" by Jamie at the very end of the commercial 😂
So this guy threw slow his entire career, extending the longevity of his time playing professional baseball. Sounds like a genius to me
Hey, if you can get outs, it's a great strategy. Worked for Tim Wakefield too.
@@elduderino5390 Yet today's pitchers are taught to throw 99mph fastballs and 89 mph sliders. Even though they rarely pitch more than 5 innings, they still blow their arms out.
Particularly if it’s a 20 mph contrast to everything else they see
Wakefield. 'Nuff said 😂
@@fr2ncm9 I mean N Ryan threw harder than they do today and had a career as long as Moyers. Probably more to it than just speed.
Bro, you did not need to destroy this man by explaining how old he was lmfao.
"HE IS OLDER, THAN THE DIRT YOU WALK ON!"
"HE IS OLDER, THAN MOVIE THEATER POPCORN!"
"HE IS SO OLD, HE SAT NEXT TO JESUS IN THE 2nd GRAD!"
Okay man, let the man pitch :/

I think it's hilarious. Young folk can't stand outliers. The obsession with age is always amusing. This whole video is almost whiney.
“He’s so old he sat next to Jesus in second grade” got me😂😂😂
He's older than the internet.
He’s older than the horse and buggy lols
this is the definition of wily veteran, he has forgotten more about pitching than most mlb pitchers know today, and he can read hitters, because he has seen them all
Moyer is a mediocre pitcher, journeyman at best
@@cyclopsvision6370 ok? the fact he's able to be even average in the MLB for this long with his pitching style is still incredible
@@cyclopsvision6370 He's just outside of the top 100 in WAR for a pitcher. Over 25 seasons. I wouldn't call that mediocre. He might not be remember as one of the all time greats but his longevity is definitely remarkable.
@@Mr_Boyer The the last 10 years of Moyers' career was below average. It also says a lot about a team's minor league system that they didn't have someone in AAA or AA that could outperform Moyer and take his roster spot.
@cyclopsvision6370 he struck you out looking didn't he?
Moyer was the last active MLB player older than me, so I wanted to see him pitch forever. Amazing story.
Mine was Dave Winfield. I hated that more than turning 40. Having Nolan Ryan last a long time also gave me hope, 7 years older than me.
You're lucky. My last guy, Dave Winfield, only made it to 43.
I never thought about that, but yeah that would be a hard thing to realize.
I'm down to 8 myself, as of this season -- Justin Verlander, Jesse Chavez, Charlie Morton, David Robertson, Max Scherzer, Justin Turner, Matt Carpenter, and Adam Ottavino. Even though Verlander's the oldest of the lot, I could see him sticking the longest.
I wonder who will be the last remaining for me in the future…currently 21. Maybe Skenes? Who knows
Just add more context about the 5 U.S. presidents during Moyer's career, 3 of which served 2 terms and 1 was in his second term when he debuted.

Jamie Moyer is a Hall of Famer in my book. The man had NO MLB tools in his kit and played 25 seasons with the best of the best.
I mean his career ERA starts with a 4 which I think automatically excludes you. But it's worse than that, his is 4.25 with a 4.49 FIP. He's the all-time leader in home runs allowed while striking out no more than 6.1 guys per 9 in his entire career. Pitching 4000 innings is very well and good but over his career he was basically an average starter. Under 50 war too if you put stock in that sort of thing.
@@hankglidden1463 - Moyer was in the game long enough that he had three careers. His middle career, with the Mariners and beyond for a while, was HOF worthy.
Jamie Moyer should be a hall of famer simply for longevity and counting stats. Dude has records that will never be broken in modern ball.
I agree
fr, hes played in every stadium pretty much ever built lmfao
If not for all of the roided pitchers he competed against and all of the roided hitters, he surely would be 300+ win HOFer.

Moyer played for my Seattle Mariners for years and was beloved in the city and was one of the most underappreciated pitchers in MLB history
let em all know. we had a lot of legends who didn't get the credit they deserved. i still think Edgar is the greatest DH to ever play the game.
We loved his Philly years. He was from the extended area.

He didn’t need to throw hard. He probably didn’t want to because he seen everyone was getting Tommy John surgery. His strategy obviously worked out with the longevity.
What he makes up for speed he has in the finesse department
This just shows how important location is, I throw around 77 and can barely beat a little league team.

Moyer might be the strongest example I've ever seen of using psychology in baseball.
Can't pitch super fast? Pitch in ways that will make the batter anxious and unsure what to swing at so they keep getting themselves out.
If you haven't, you should check out the anime One Outs. Basically this exact thing
You know what I haven’t seen enough content on. Julio Franco. That dude hit in the MLB till he was like 50!

I have several of his baseball cards and they all have different birthdays listed
I didn't know who Moyer was until this video, but he's my favorite baseball player of all time.
Moyer is too old. He was pitching in his late 70's.
I am an A's fan and remember Moyer with The Mariners. The kicker is that he called his own pitches. Not the catcher, Moyer. That made it that much tougher to steal signs. That is in addiction to having timing all screwed up.
The catcher didn't even have to know the pitch. They were going so slow, it was easy to catch them.
Jamie was a stud for the Phillies 😂😂😂 his games were so boring to watch as a kid but as you get older you realize how crazy good he was them late 2000s early 2010s Phillies team were everything 😂😂
He was on the 2008 team that won the world series...
lets go phillies!!
Mariners Legend Jamie Moyer. love this. got to watch him for a majority of his career here in Seattle. dude is a shining example of having great "stuff" and not needing to overpower his opponents. Maddux did it later in his career, as well (but obviously had better velocity). i never thought i'd see the day where Jamie retires. he must've had an incredible recovery regimen and definitely knew his bodies limits. i don't think i ever saw him feature anything that was overtly taxing on the arm throughout his entire career lol. my man's career spanned longer than i've even been alive (i was born 1987). i have nothing but respect for a guy like this, who can break the mold of a prototypical player. you love to see it.
Bro has beef with Jamie Moyer 💀
Ong 😭 🙏
Bro keeps calling him old. He ain’t even that old
Ichiro just turned 50 (51?) and has been out of the league for a bit. Moyer still going strong(ish). I think the constant comparisons is more about showing how much of a stand out/anomaly he is versus a jab at him.
BOOM!!!
That's a weird take after a 26 minute video showing how awesome Moyer is. You must be from Philadelphia.
I’ll never forget watching that complete game live. Couldn’t believe what I was watching. One of the moments that made me a true fan of baseball
Jamie Moyer has just shy of 50 WAR. Considering his one-of-a-kind longevity, he should probably be in Hall of Fame conversations - even though he fell off the ballot in 2018 and, eh, maybe shouldn't be there.
I love having guys with interesting careers in the Hall. Moyer wasn't a good enough pitcher to get in on skill and impact, but the Hall of Fame is a museum, and Moyer is definitely a guy worth remembering.
He's in the record books for oldest winning pitcher and it's hard to see him losing that distinction any time soon. Maybe as time goes on, that achievement coupled with his longevity and unique career will get him over the hump. 269 wins and 2400 strikeouts seems pretty darn good to me. That's 35th and 47th out of all pitchers in the history of the league. Seems like you could make an argument.
His own exhibit case in the museum seems more appropriate. He was far from a HOF pitcher. I think if he came back as a coach or announcer and did a decent job, they might put him in for a total contribution to baseball. Although, if it really was about fame, he should be in.
Baseball is old and has many oddities. If Cooperstown had The Hall of Amazing Feats, someone like Moyer or Maris could get a plaque. But the entire museum is already a hall of amazing feats with the HOF at the end.
He’s famous, isn’t he
Maybe he could make another comeback so he can be put on the ballot again lol
The guy knew how to PITCH not throw. He was a true gem to watch.
Not many people would have persisted through his tough years. Tried to develop a knuckler at 50! Guy loved the game.
There was a semi-pro team that played on the NY-CT border near where I used to live. Jim Bouton showed up once and asked if he could try out. He made the team and played (for free) in his 50s, throwing that knuckle ball! He was a wealthy man at this time, having made a bundle on Jim Bouton's Bog League Chew (a bubble gum), and starring in a tv comedy for one season.
Jaimie Moyer went to my high school. Souderton Area High School. There’s a big picture of him in the athletic wing
That’s crazy! I just moved to Souderton recently. Awesome to know such a legend originated from our little area.
absolute LEGEND in Seattle, brother.

He needs to make hall of fame for his career in his 40 -49 year old seasons 😂
I met him in San Diego where he was a dad at my nephew’s school. Nice dude reminisced about Ranger days.
Was that school UCSD? Moyer didn't live in San Diego that I know of, but if you meant high school my guess is Cathedral Catholic (they have a good baseball program, and Moyer is rich and catholic).

Jamie Moyer was so criminally underrated. Miss him.
Notice the correlation between a long career and not throwing harder than you need.
Correlation obviously does not prove causation
7:35 I’m turning 36 soon and the fact that this dude, an active MLB starting pitcher, was drafted before i was even born, is the absolute wildest sports statistic I’ve ever encountered. He’s a legend
Moyer's last MLB season was in 2012
Jamie Moyer and Greg maddux both complimented each other very well while they were on the Cubs. I used to get them confused they pitched so similar
It’s about time someone shows this man some love! He is a baseball anomaly that will never happen again. Cherish it.
26 seasons and a near 300 game winner with 269 lifetime wins--35th on the list with more than Jim Palmer and Bob Feller. 14 of those seasons winner of 12 games or more, twice winning 20 games with a lifetime 4.25 ERA. Considering how he pitched, those are HOF numbers. Amazing 😊
For those who care: Moyer had the best change-up in baseball; it was around 55 mph and had the same trajectory as his fastball, which made it very hard to hit.
Nice, he doesn't want to rip his shoulder apart.

That's World Series Champion Jamie Moyer!
i really only seen him play on the Ms and it was news to me when he was all of a sudden with the Phils... moyer was no joke back then.... like yea he threw slow but he found ways to win, i really had no idea he played until he was 50 until this vid. just a classy guy
When I was in my teens, Moyer was already an old man pitching in Seattle, and fans loved him. Couldn't stop laughing the whole video.
There will never be another Jamie Moyer. He was so unique every time he went out there but he was the definition of a pitcher. Needed to change speeds and had to locate it to have any outs.
He was not unique, he was justa dollar store greg maddux or tom glavine. Those guys relied on the same types of pitching, they were just better in every single way.
@@Dejusticed he’s not unique? The dude pitched until he was almost 50
@@atrout114 That is because he wasn't protecting a legacy. He was not unique in his pitching style. Many guys pitched like him back then because they were pitchers, unlike today they are throwers.
@@Dejusticed why did he make a video about him if he wasn’t unique?
Based off his numbers just off Wins and Strikeouts. He beats out Jim Palmer in both who is a Hall Of Fame Pitcher. From everything I have season and a World Series under his belt. He deserves to be in the Hall Of Fame.
Jim Palmer won three Cy Young Awards. He had one fewer win than Jamie, and 50 fewer losses. His career ERA+ is 125. Jamie's was 103 (100 is average...the higher the number, the better the pitcher). There's no comparison. In 12 of Jamie's 25 years, he was a below average pitcher if you go by ERA+
Moyer was my favorite pitcher of the Phillies' "mini-dynasty" of '07-'11. When Halliday and Lee were pitching their best, you were in awe. But when Moyer pitched his best, you LAUGHED YOUR HEAD OFF!
My dad and i talked about this guy a few weeks ago and it’s pretty cool
Everyone’s favorite pitcher on the Mariners in the 90s was Randy Johnson (and rightly so), but I always had a soft spot in my heart for Jamie Moyer. I was always inspired by his no-quit attitude and consistency.
This channel is what is keeping me sane. I keep rewatching all the vids and still find something new every time. Good job bro 🎉😂
There is more to pitching than velocity , movement of the ball is very important , along with location , and changing speeds , keeping the hitter off balance
If you look at Mark Eichorn, Dan Quisenberry, or Phil Neikro, all of whom were successful throwing the ball slowly, but getting guys out, you can see that they all had great movement on their pitches. But Jamie's pitches don't seem to move much at all....they just slop there way up to the plate.....but there had to be something about them that was confusing.
I love this story and didn't know a fraction of it beforehand. Thank you for making it and sharing -- I really enjoyed it.
I used to play many sports and baseball was one of my favorites. After moving to Japan, I was invited to play weekly on a Taiwanese team in Tokyo, where I made good friends and was able to relive a bit of my childhood by getting back on 3rd base. At that time, I was already in my mid 40s and my knees were shot, but it was still fun. Sadly had to move away for work and found myself in Hiroshima, but two years ago I suddenly wasn't able to even walk uphill. Found out I had a large cancerous tumor on my kidney. Been battling it since then. Now I'm 49 and still wish I could go out and play, but I may not even make it to 50. Seeing Moyer's story brought a smile to my face. Thanks again.
I’ve been a Braves fan since 1993 and I had no clue that we had Jesse Chavez, the same Jesse Chavez you made about sucking everywhere away from the Braves.
Dude pitched for the Braves 16 years. That’s wild.
Also ironic that Chavez is in the league, about to turn 41 and an important cog for a Braves team that’s almost 95% to make the playoffs even if it’s via.
This is why I love baseball. Baseball is special. ❤
Moyer is so old, he was born when baseball didn’t exist
I loved the story of this video cause Moyer pitching as long as he did was insane, but this was overloaded with numbers in the beginning.
pretty cool how this guy develops such an old character for a game that doesn’t even exist
I marveled at Moyer for so many years. He's the only big league pitcher I ever watched and thought, "I could hit that. Why don't they just hit it?". But obviously it's not that simple. He's a great repudiation to the radar gun obsessed state of the current game.
love this video, great job ! Moyer a legend
I LOVED watching Jamie Moyer pitch for the Ms. What a craftsman!
Here is how Moyer did it: location + movement + knowledge
He worked fast and he threw strikes.
Control is a thing you just lose less of as you get older, you see it in the NBA where older players will transition into being better shooters towards the end of their career while other parts of their game starts to decline. Same with QBs in the NFL, they become more of pocket passers and will often have higher accuracy even if their air yards decline. Add this with the fact that in baseball the slower your ball is traveling the more effect your different types of pitches will be able to have(same spin will make a slower ball curve more) and how much accuracy has been deincentivized in the game over the years with both pitchers and hitters focusing more on fastballs over well placed balls. Being able to have this level of control or accuracy that you can hold onto longer into your career is kinda the only way to make it that long and still preform well. Still crazy impressive though.
I remember Peyton Manning's last season in the NFL. He was totally noodle armed, but when it got to the playoffs, he was throwing extremely accurate ducks to his guys. It was bizarre to watch, but it helped Denver get a championship.
In his prime Moyer's fastball was only about 85-87. The bugs bunny changeup when he was with the Mariners was fun to watch
This is a man going to work. Earning a living for a long time. It's a shame the air in the room is "he's soooo old" jokes and not the billion dollar juiced up arms that only last a few seasons.
This is an incredible breakdown. It’s so clear the amount of work you put into this and the passion you have for the game. Well done. Truly. Well done.
Chad Innings Eater was invented for Jamie Moyer.
kinda crazy how this man can make videos about players and a sport that doesnt exist.. props to you..
No pitcher can perform at their same level after Tommy Johns surgery.
*Moyer:* Hold my beer...
This was super fun. I loved the pitch by pitch commentary.
We get it. He’s old and slow. 3:00
Jaime Moyer was throwing worse than 90 year olds. Moyer is older than 90 year olds. Moyer's joints have completely fossilized, making it impossible for him to pitch higher than a 7 MPH fastball.
I don't follow baseball, haven't really for about 40 years. So I missed this life story, and greatly enjoyed watching it. Heartwarming and inspiring.
Man little leaguers are throwing 80+ miles fastballs now?
Call up a surgeon to prep for TJ and a PT to rehab me no way a little leaguer is gonna pitch harder than me. Seriously though that is wild that 12 year olds are pitching that fast
It’s ridiculous. I live in a small town and work several games a year as a little league umpire.
There is a TEN YEAR OLD throwing just below 70 with an unhittable slider.
I’m in high school, and that tiny kid is ten times nastier than I am.
@@JosephDalton-xc1iw I act surprised but we have a little league time that pretty regularly makes the little league world series near me and I know those kids are fucking nasty. Pretty wild to see a kid over a decade younger than me able to put more movement on a ball than I ever could.
