I love that Arnie's love interest wasn't his partner, but they still built a very sweet and intimate bond as friends. This is such a sweet and cute movie, and honestly one of my favorite Schwarzenegger movies.
I also love that they made her desirable! She's a badass and funny, but she's also engaged to be married to a great guy. I feel like that's so uncommon in Hollywood. This movie is actually great with roles for women. It's very rare that you see so many female roles in an action-thriller, especially considering how few male roles there are.
Jen, you will love Twins. Arnold and Danny DeVito. A masterpiece. Arnold is so great at comedy. Fun movie and fun reaction Jen. You really are the best reactor on RUclips.
I watched this when it came out and I was, ahem, 14. Since then I learned that the child actors loved Arnie because between takes he just played with them and got to know them. It really shows in the way they interact with him on screen.
Kindergarten Cop was filmed in Astoria, Oregon. Same location as the Goonies and Free Willy to name two. The Last Stand is also worth checking out if you want more Arnie movies.
Named after the Astor family. He was the one in Titanic with the pregnant young wife. As Rose said, "Quite the scandal." Witnesses say he died trying to free the pets. Good man.
@@clevelandcbi It's really weird to see so many things named after them. I live only a few miles away from Walldorf, Germany, where Johann-Jakob Astor was born...
While Twins is one of my childhood faves without this movie we wouldn't have gotten the incredible soundboard prank calls from Lt John Kimball in the 2000s : D
To be fair, the worst, toughest bad guys couldn't last two days with 20 6-year-olds without doing actual physical damage to some of the kids. If they made it through the first day they'd never come back.
Arnold has kids. His daughter is married to Chris Pratt ( Starlord from guardians of the galaxy ). This was a big movie as a kid for me as it was filmed not to far from where I grew up. The town is at the mouth of the columbia river on the Oregon and Washington border. There are a lot of classic movies filmed there as it is a quaint small port town such as Short Circuit and The Goonies.
This is Arnold's favorite role. He has often reflected fondly on this movie. I like the Terminator moment when he's going through that crack house looking for his witness. He proved that he could do comedy well. And it's heart warming to know that he has kept in touch with all of his children co-stars over the years.
"The Last Action Hero" is a pretty funny parody of action films. And, if you want to see baby Arnie, check him out in "The Villain", with Kirk Douglas and Ann Margaret. If it were any sillier, it'd be a Looney Tunes cartoon.
Others have said it, but his best comedy has to be Twins!:definitely worth checking out for another side or him. Jingle all the way is good for Christmas season, too.
I was a hardcore Arnold fan. Terminator, The Running Man, Raw Deal, Conan….and wanted to see this just because he was in it. Will always love this movie 😁
Just a note, Jen, from a music buff...Randy Edelman is very good at writing affective, moving, beautiful music. Just tuck this away. He also wrote the music for "While You Were Sleeping," which is a really sweet rom-com with Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. Box of tissues needed when listening to the music in that movie. And, not another sweet movie, but he also wrote the theme to the classic Richard Dean Anderson TV series, "MacGyver."
"Oh, that's nice! She's cool!" Little Linda Hunt is always great. She works with Penelope Ann Miller again on The Relic (a creature feature you would enjoy).
This movie will always hold a special place in my heart! It was the last movie I went to see at the theater my Dad before he passed away 😞 I love you Dad!❤ But on a happy note it is a very funny movie 😁
you should check out the video they made during the pandemic of the reunion of the cast, not for a reaction but just for your own enjoyment. the kids LOVED Arnie and he enjoyed them so much. Its so endearing.
Glad you enjoyed it👍 Was a fun movie and those catch phrases just added to the growing bag of Arnie quips in pop culture! I never realized how many similar scenes and call backs or foreshadows there are to other Arnie movies in this one. T2’s scene in the back hallways where he meets the T1000 is very similar to the opening in this movie in the mall hallway. Where Arnie hangs out with the addict it looks a lot like the club TechNoir from T1. He’s dressed a lot like like Kyle Reese. He says “I’m back” to the kids. Just to name a few in the reaction, been a while since seeing the whole thing but I’m sure there’s more.
I've loved this movie since I saw it as a kid. It's the perfect blend of comedy and serious police drama. Pretty sure it was my first Arnold movie. Glad to see people rediscovering this one.
If you haven’t seen it, I urge you to watch Twins. You’ll love it. It’s the first film Arnold did with director Ivan Reitman (who made Ghostbusters) who directed this and they then followed it up with a third collaboration with Junior… a very interesting movie. But Twins is incredible.
His first comedy, The Villain (1979), was more a Kirt Douglas movie and it is hard to find anyway. But there is Junior (1994) which is straight comedy. In the action/comedy category he did Twins (1988) and some might include Batman & Robin (1997). And don't forget the holiday/comedy/action Jingle All the Way (1996).
"It might be a tumor." "It's not a tuma!" Oh, tumor. Gonna die." Lol!! I don't know what is more funnier, the kids or the dialogue. RIP, Ivan Reitman, for making this hilarious film.
@@SuperMarioBrosIII Double date rental with the movie, blockbuster era - 90's - we shut it off part way through. Sorry man. Didn't watch it because we just couldn't watch it.
Arnold is always funny to me even when it's unintentional😅 He said this is his favourite of his own movies, too. He had the most fun making it and so did the kids.
So our sweet, gentle, sophisticated Jen has "always wanted to push someone out of the way by their face." A bit like the sweet, gentle, sophisticated (yet deadly) bunny wabbit in "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," methinks.
Great reaction to a fun movie! I worked in day care and church nurseries when this movie came out. At the time I was 6'4", 185 pounds, had long hair and a mohawk. 😀 So many of my female friends saw this movie and said "It's you!" 😀 I didn't think that they were funny. I love this movie though. It was just so funny at the time. When this came out I had seen both Conan movies, Red Sonja, and The Terminator. I had seen some of Red Heat when hanging out with friends, though while it was a comedy movie the comedy was from Jim Belushi with Arnold basically just being the hardcore Russian cop straight man in it. Then this hit. And suddenly I found out Arnold could do some comedy AND do touching bits too, like the A.A. Milne reading. I watched some of his not-action movies that I had skipped after seeing this. For someone who was expected to just be a musclebound meathead action actor, he had surprising depths. Such a great movie. And, yeah, it was kinda like me working with the kids I did (ages 2-6). But such a fun movie. 🙂 Edit: Other Arnie change of pace movies from this era are Red Heat and Twins.
My mom took me to the theater to see Home Alone. It was sold out so we saw Kindergarten Cop instead. It became one of my all time favorite movies. I watched it hundreds of times growing up and it always brings back great memories!
Hey Hey there Jen Murray. Favorite part was when his partner clobbered bad guys mom with the ball bat "Your not so tough without your car are you " crackes me up every time. Love your reaction as always. Have a perfect night. 😉👌
Arnie comedies that I can think of (similar to Kindergarten Cop) are Junior and Twins. As for more action-comedies; I'd say Last Action Hero and Jingle All the Way (which is also a Christmas movie).
in an early storyline the little red headed boy only spoke a few nonsense words… during the fire scene he points out Crisp and the starts shouting “stranger! stranger”
This was Arnie's 2nd foray comedy - the first is TWINS and the the 3rd was JUNIOR - both co-starring Danny De Vito - and all 3 directed by Ivan Reitman (GHOSTBUSTERS/MEATBALLS/ANIMAL HOUSE - the last 2 you so need to see ) - and they're just as funny.
People think I'm joking when I say this is in my top 5 Arnold movies but I'm serious. This and T2 were my introduction to him when I was a little kid in the early 90s
The mother of the bad guy is Carroll Baker. Her first movie role was in 1953. Her second movie role was in 'Giant' co-starring with Elizabeth Taylor, Rock Hudson and James Dean. Giant is an epic that is a must watch for any film buff. She followed that with the Tennessee Williams black comedy 'Baby Doll' and 'The Big Country' an epic western with another all star cast. She formally retired from acting in 2003. She is still with us, 92 years young. Carrol Baker is someone you should know.
Arnold put out two more comedy movies with Danny Devito. One is Twins and the other is Junior. You will enjoy them both. You know who else would enjoy them, your sister, tell her I said hi.
Your reaction was also heartwarming, like whenever the kids did something cute. :) As for other Arnold comedies, The Last Action Hero is my favourite of his.
Astoria, Oregon is a very scenic town located on the Oregon side of the Columbia River very close to that river's mouth. It's been used as the setting for several movies.
I love how Stallone was motivated to do a light hearted family action after this with Stop or My Mom Will Shoot 1992 (major bomb) Arnold also insinuated to Stallone’s crew that he wanted to film Stop or My Mom Will Shoot 😂
Hey, Jen. Great reaction yet again. You ve become my fav reaction channel and I always look forward to you uploads....Being that you have been on an Arnie kick recently, and being the music affectionado that you are(especially for film scores) AND being that you just watched a film with limited score in No Contry for Old Men, may I suggest an early Arnie film, Conan the Barbarian (if you havent already reacted to it and I just plain didnt see it) There is very minimal dialogue and the score carries alot of the weight for the film, not to mention that Basil Pouledaris composed what is arguably one of the best scores for a movie . Think Conan would check alot of recent boxes for a reation. Good luck with your channel and look forward to next upload:)
You have to see "Conan the Barbarian" first, since it was the first Conan movie, but personally, while many people would call "The Barbarian" a better story with better actors, I actually have more fun with the sequel, "Conan the Destroyer," which also has an excellent score.
When I was in 8th grade at a K-8 school, the 2nd grade teacher, who was sort of inept before, used this movie as her guide to becoming competent at the job.
I recommend checking out an almost forgotten film from early in his career simply called The Villain. It also has Kirk Douglas and Ann-Margret. It's a western spoof, and almost like a Looney tunes cartoon brought to life. Very light-hearted, and completely unlike any Arnold film you've seen.
@@davidward9737 I didn't scroll down far enough to see it, but I'm glad that my brothers and I aren't the only ones who remember the film. Roadrunner and coyote was a far better comparison than Looney tunes
@@MrLovegrove well I mentioned it in someone else comment since people were bringing up Arnold comedies. Looney tunes is a great comparison. Me personally felt Anne Margaret and Arnold were the Roadrunner and the Villian Catus Jack Slade was the Coyote since all his traps backfired, especially the train scene since they go through the tar unscathed and he gets stuck. Plus his horse Whisky is funny too. Both good comparisons though.
Hey Jen! A good action/comedy where Arnie openly makes fun of himself: Last Action Hero. Also, I feel you would really enjoy Junior (1994) with Arnie and Danny DeVito.
@@sparksdrinker5650 Yes, because people at the time didn't understand Arnold was spoofing his own movies. The film had been promoted as a serious action movie.

One Arnie movie that doesn't get a lot of shine, but I know you would love, is a film called Commando! It's a classic!!!
Arnold intentionally wanted to go into comedy, and it's the best move he could have made after Terminating. It works perfectly.
He has really good timing, and his comedic delivery definitely improves with his English through the 80's.
I heard Arnold made the move into comedies as a result of a request from his mom. She didn't like her son being only in brutal, violent action movies.
The Villian one of his 1st movies and a comedy

Arnold had a reunion over Zoom with some of the now grown people who played kids in this movie, it's just as heartwarming as you think it would be.
In my top 5 Arnie films. The kids are brilliant.
Hey Jen! A good action/comedy where Arnie openly makes fun of himself: Last Action Hero. Also, I feel you would really enjoy Junior (1994) with Arnie and Danny DeVito.
At the time it came out Last Action Hero was a generally regarded as his worst movie, it was a dud
Last Action Hero was too clever for its time but is great fun now.
@@sparksdrinker5650 Yes, because people at the time didn't understand Arnold was spoofing his own movies. The film had been promoted as a serious action movie.
@@rickylyon3846 but still I think most would agree it's well below average as far as Arnie movies go.
I actually had this on vhs back in the day.
