The "suicide" scene is the part that always gets me, where he can't even get the gun to work in his favour! It jams when he tries to shoot himself, but it goes off as soon as he throws it away!
That wasn't John Belushi in the gorilla costume on the Amtrak train, it was his brother JIM BELUSHI. John was already deceased when this movie came out.
Well, that's Jim Belushi, John's younger brother, and one of the "two eighties guys [you] should know" is former United States Senator Al Franken (the other is his then-SNL partner, Tom Davis). The cop with the glasses that plants the PCP is Muppets creator Frank Oz, and the pawn shop owner is blues legend Bo Diddley! Lots of great people in this film!
Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy were both SNL cast members. Easter egg: if (or when) you get around to watching "Coming To America" (1988), take note of the two beggars that Akim (Eddie Murphy's character) encounters.
That is funny, but the thing that can make me giggle just thinking about it is Mortimer's reaction to Randolph's heart attack. I have cried laughing at seeing it a few times.
Jen! Great reaction, and thank you for an edit that includes the setup for a joke and ALSO the payoff! For example, the scene where Valentine breaks the vase and asks if they want him to break something else. The payoff, the 3 men saying, "No!" in unison, is comedy gold, and so many reactors cut that line out. Remember, most of us have already seen the movie, and the punch lines are what we're waiting for. You can't cut iconic scenes or only include random lines from the movie with zero context. Keep up the good work!
You know, I have to agree that some reaction channels do a less than adequate job in their editing. Missing punch lines and rolling through or completely cutting iconic scenes defeats the purpose of watching someone else's reaction. Gets really disappointing.
Any movie with Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy has to be great! This is a hysterically funny movie with a million laughs a minute. It holds your interest and never relents. Top notch! Happy New Year Jen!

Good reaction Jen. The gratuitous scene you mentioned was one of the most famous and anticipated ones of the decade. In all the horror movies Jamie Leigh was in early in her career, she never had a topless scene. This was her first. It even got a mention in the first Scream movie. For Eddie, you have to watch Coming to America. Trust me, you will laugh your butt off. For Dan, his best movies are this, Ghostbusters, and The Blues Brothers. For both, they made their name on SNL. He won the BAFTA supporting actors award for his role in this film, a feat that he would repeat for the next 2 years with roles in A Private Function & Defense of the Realm. He was also nominated for an Oscar as best supporting actor in A Room With A View.
I work in the "Duke and Duke" building! They've maintained the boardroom as it was in the film. It's quite the tourist draw for those who know about it!
I went to school in the "police station" lol Community College of Philadelphia's Mint Building (literally the old US Mint building before they moved it), and across the street (where the police tow truck is parked) is Masterman middle/high school (ranked 4th in the country, btw)
I grew up at just the right time: starting with “Jaws” in 1975 at age ten. I got to see all of these iconic 70’s and 80’s flicks when they came out. Eddie Murphy also did “48 Hours” and “Another 48 Hours.” He also did “The Golden Child.” Dan Ackroyd did “Spies Like Us,” and “Evolution.”
(21:33) Fun Fact: the broker asking Billy about wheat sales was a homage to the old E.F. Hutton commercial. "When E.F. Hutton speaks, people listen." Great reaction.
Jen, pork bellies are a real thing. In the US, they are the cut of the pig that bacon, among other things, comes from . American bacon, that is. The Canadian variety comes from pork loins.

Fun review as always! TRADING PLACES still holds up as a classic comedy. Other Eddie Murphy essentials: 48 HRS. (1982), BEVERLY HILLS COP I & II (1984, 1987), THE GOLDEN CHILD (1986)...to start with!
The cop that was inventorying Dan Aykroyd’s possessions at the police station is Frank Oz. He’s the voice of Yoda, Miss Piggy, Animal, etc. He does a similar scene in “The Blues Brothers”.
An absolute classic, the 80s was Eddie Murphy at his prime and he had so many great movies during that time like Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America and 48 hours which was his first movie.
1:00 Note that this is when the Rocky statue was at the Spectrum, in the Sports Complex in South Philadelphia, not at the Art Museum. 8:14 The guy standing on the left is a very young Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad, The Mandalorian). 17:12 For the past two years I’ve worked on the 27th floor of the building right behind the giant clothespin. (It’s across the street from City Hall.)
Mel had a small audio cameo in the film. He's the voice of the dancer saying, "Don't be stupid, be a smartie.." It's a great cast in this. Zero Mostell, a young Gene Wilder, and the very funny Dick Shawn.
0:56 That's funny to see. This is the old location of the Rocky statue. It was at a sports arena called The Spectrum but it was moved to the art museum next to the steps from the movie in 2006.
In New York, Beverly Hills and other places, some people pay a lot more than $6,000 for a watch. Some cost over $50,000,,, $100,000,,, $500,000, and even $1,000,000.
For future reactions, I would say- Dan Aykroyd: ▪︎ The Great Outdoors ▪︎ Sneakers ▪︎ Celtic Pride ▪︎ My Stepmother is an Alien ▪︎ My Fellow Americans Eddie Murphy: ▪︎ Beverly Hills II ▪︎ Coming to America (please see while this movie is fresh) ▪︎ Tower Heist ▪︎ I-Spy ▪︎ Showtime
The guy doing the inventory is the same guy ding inventory in the Blues Brothers. He's the voice of Ms. Piggy and Yoda The Dukes appear in Coming to America
Also, not sure you noticed but the cop who books Dan Aykroyd is played by Frank Oz, the voice of Fozzie Bear, Miss Piggy, Yoda... This film is directed by John Landis and he gives Frank Oz small parts in a lot of his movies. At least 6.
Such a good movie from the use of classical music to Murphy's "Legs! I have legs!" and Dan Aykroyd's Winthorpe going thru a real character arc to the droll Denholm Elliott. Also, Jamie Lee Curtis is molten hot. 😉 Great choice of movie, and fun to see Jen's reaction. 👏🎄
Brilliant as always Jen the party man on the train was James Belushi John had passed away few years prior to this movie getting made. James Belushi and Dan aykroyd where close friends back in the day and pretty sure whenever Dan aykroyd does blues' brother shows it's with James Belushi now
New subscriber. Love your reviews, you bring these movies alive. On a side-note, this was my first movie with Eddie Murphy at the theatre with my parents, I was 10 back in 1983. Eddie Murphy was totally unknown in France but what talent. With hindsight, so much creativity back in the 1980s, fantastic scripts, great acting, today we have GCI, the MCU or remakes! It is not cinema!
The two Baggage Handlers with the Monkey are Tom Davis & Al Franken they were both Actors & Writers on Saturday Night Live during dan`s time on the show.....
Trivial info The police officer who mentions Winthorpes belongings is Frank Oz - the voice of Fozzy the Bear from the Muppets - AND the officer at the state prison in The Blues Brothers, doing the same with Jake Blues’ belongings. Have you btw seen The Blues Brothers? It’s a classic.
Great reaction, Jen. Love this movie, I suggest "Coming to America"with Eddie. There's a cool little Easter egg in that movie. Eddie Murphy stand up "Raw" or "Delirious".
You asked "are these two famous eighties guys that I should know?" One of them, who was a writer on Saturday Night Live named Al Franken. He later became a U.S. Senator.
Wonderful reaction, Jen! The first ever reaction I ever saw of this movie. Here in Italy, "Trading Places" has become the most traditional and beloved Christmas movie. It is broadcast on TV every Christmas Eve at least for the last twenty years, and every year it highly followed.
Not all that many people would recognize him immediately or expect to see him in a movie these days, but one of the train baggage handlers is Al Franken, former Saturday Night Live legend, and more well known to younger people as former Senator Al Franken.
The short baggage handler is Al Franken, longtime writer and sometime actor on SNL, author of several political humor books, and former United States Senator.
Hey Hey there Jen Murray! First time I watched this was on video cassette at a friend's house. 😂 I WAS AGENT ORANGE! Hope you have a perfect weekend. Happy New Year.🎉😉👌💯💢💫
You were on the right track, that was JAMES Belushi... John's brother... Also in the cell with eddie... That was a young Gus Fring.... Giancarlo Esposito
"Are these two famous 80's guys I should know?" Well, one of them became _Senator_ Al Franken, previously author of "Lies and the Lying Liars that Tell Them". And I'm sure someone else has said that was _Jim_ Belushi, John's brother, in the ape costume.
A very much simplified explanation of how Lewis and Billy became rich: The commodities market is buying and selling "futures". A "future" is a contract to buy or sell a product at a certain price at a set point in the future, regardless of the market value of the product at that time. Our boys contracted to sell large quantities of orange juice in the future at $146, then they bought those shares at $29.

Short selling of stock shares (As I understand it):
Louis and Billy Ray first had to borrow shares of the commodity (Frozen OJ). They had to return the shares at an agreed-upon time.
They sold all their shares at a high price ($142), then waited for the price to drop.
Once the price dropped, they bought as many shares as they could.
They then returned the shares that they borrowed, but at the final price ($29)
They made a fortune!
Nearly spot on, but they're trading futures rather than shares. By selling futures they agreed to supply OJ at some specific later date at the agreed price. Later on, when the price has dropped, they buy futures which cancels out their obligation to supply, and they pocket the difference in price. You don't need to 'borrow' to short on futures the way you would with stocks.

Eddie Murphy's 2 stand up comedy shows are DELIRIOUS (1983) and RAW (1987). Eddie also did BEVERLY HILLS COP 2 in 1987.
48 Hours (and its sequel) is INCREDIBLE!!! 🤘😎🤘
Golden child
@@shanefourtwenty "QUUUUUUIIIIIICCCCKKK!!!!" 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
The Golden Child. One of my favorite Eddie Murphy movies and underrated.
@@periechontology "I waaant the kniiiife! ..... Pleeeaaasssee ... " 😂🤣😂🤣👍😎👍
Jen! Makes me laugh every time, thanks for leaving in the woman on the bus wincing, watching him try to eat the salmon with his beard hair! :)
32:05 guy working for Dukes is Richard Hunt - the muppeteer who played Scooter, Janice and Statler.
I love this movie. Another Eddie movie to see is called (Bowfinger) Thats also got Steve Martin starring. . Probably my favorite movie with Eddie.
" I hope he spit in his milk" 🥛 😂😂😂
Mel had a small audio cameo in the film. He's the voice of the dancer saying, "Don't be stupid, be a smartie.."
It's a great cast in this. Zero Mostell, a young Gene Wilder, and the very funny Dick Shawn.
I hope the Patrons mentioned to watch Coming to America relatively close to this.
Great reaction, one of the funniest moments of the movie was when Louis was eating on the bus out of his jacket. 😂😂👏🥰
For future reactions, I would say-
Dan Aykroyd:
▪︎ The Great Outdoors
▪︎ Sneakers
▪︎ Celtic Pride
▪︎ My Stepmother is an Alien
▪︎ My Fellow Americans
Eddie Murphy:
▪︎ Beverly Hills II
▪︎ Coming to America
(please see while this movie is fresh)
▪︎ Tower Heist
▪︎ I-Spy
▪︎ Showtime
@28:27, The guy on the right who wants to drive is Al Franken. He was on SNL and was later a U.S. Senator from Minnesota.
James Belushi and Dan aykroyd where close friends back in the day and pretty sure whenever Dan aykroyd does blues' brother shows it's with James Belushi now
The shorter of the two baggae handlers on the train is Al Franken, who for several years was Senator from Minnesota.
When you watch Coming to America…look for the cameo by the Duke Brothers….one of the best hidden crossovers!
Trivial info
The police officer who mentions Winthorpes belongings is Frank Oz - the voice of Fozzy the Bear from the Muppets - AND the officer at the state prison in The Blues Brothers, doing the same with Jake Blues’ belongings.
Jen Murray makes my Friday! Very cool and great cast! Eddie, Jamie, and Dan having a wild time! Super Thanks! P.S. ... come close ... Love the tie!
"Penelope is not gonna stand for pcp." Jen has such a great sense of humor.
“Spies like us” is a great Dan Aykroid/ Chevy Chase movie Definitely one of my faves.
Did you notice that Frank Oz reprised his role from "The Blues Brothers"?
"One unused condom... one soiled...". 🤣🤣
That was Jim Belushi, John's brother. He's had a good career. See him in Taking Care of Business (comedy).
Its been forever since I last saw this movie; it was fun watching you watch it.
OMG When you say pocket meat 22:38 I was on the floor Cracking up😂😂😂
Jen now that you've seen this You definitely need to watch Eddie Murphy in
Coming to America From 1988
It's a fun movie
😍My favorite "Penelope" was Penelope Pitstop😂
"Are these two famous 80's guys I should know?" Well, one of them became _Senator_ Al Franken, previously author of "Lies and the Lying Liars that Tell Them". And I'm sure someone else has said that was _Jim_ Belushi, John's brother, in the ape costume.
A very much simplified explanation of how Lewis and Billy became rich:
The commodities market is buying and selling "futures". A "future" is a contract to buy or sell a product at a certain price at a set point in the future, regardless of the market value of the product at that time. Our boys contracted to sell large quantities of orange juice in the future at $146, then they bought those shares at $29.
