That wasn't John Belushi in the gorilla costume on the Amtrak train, it was his brother JIM BELUSHI. John was already deceased when this movie came out.
I never did the math on that. It never occurred to me how young he was making 48 Hours, Beverly Hills Cop, and this. That raises my estimation of him even more now.
@@randymarsh2901 About Aykroyd, reading your comment, my mind went straight to the blackface scene lmao. Maybe you're right though. When I think about it hard enough, those sad scenes with him really hit hard.

As great as the leads are... Seems that no one ever singles out Denholm Eliot as Coleman whose fantastic... He was also Marcus Brody in Raiders of the Lost Ark and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade... I just want to see someone shout out his wonderful work here.
Any movie with Dan Ackroyd and Eddie Murphy has to be great! This is a hysterically funny movie with a million laughs a minute. It holds your interest and never relents. Top notch! Happy New Year Jen!
Dan Aykroyd and Eddie Murphy were both SNL cast members. The cop in glasses a 12:45 is Frank Oz, the voice of Yoda, Grover, Miss Piggy, Cookie Monster, Bert, Fozzie Bear, Animal, and Sam Eagle on The Muppets. He also directed Dark Crystal and Little Shop of Horrors which you must react to as well. One of those guys at 28:24 is Al Franken former SNL cast member and US senator. Beef jerky time.
And Coleman was denholm elliott, from the Indiana Jones movies. The bartender was Bill Cobb's from demolition Man and the fugitive. And the pawnbroker was rock and roll founding Father Bo Diddly
@@vincegamer Frank Oz was the corrections officer in Blues Brothers doing the "release from prison" inventory. He did the same routine here with Winthorpe.
Also shout outs to Don Ameche and Ralph Bellamy as well, as the brothers. They were consummate professionals and well established veterans by this time, but both had something of a late career renaissance. Also the wonderful Denholm Elliot, who also had a sizeable film career (you probably know him as Dr. Marcus Brody in the Indiana Jones films).
Dan, Jamie and Eddie, all three at the top of their games here, and really brought what would have been an average script to the next level. Beverly Hills Cop and 48hrs round out Eddies best three films from this period, and are worth the watch anytime of year, as these movies are all comedy gold.
Jen! Great reaction, and thank you for an edit that includes the setup for a joke and ALSO the payoff! For example, the scene where Valentine breaks the vase and asks if they want him to break something else. The payoff, the 3 men saying, "No!" in unison, is comedy gold, and so many reactors cut that line out. Remember, most of us have already seen the movie, and the punch lines are what we're waiting for. You can't cut iconic scenes or only include random lines from the movie with zero context. Keep up the good work!
You know, I have to agree that some reaction channels do a less than adequate job in their editing. Missing punch lines and rolling through or completely cutting iconic scenes defeats the purpose of watching someone else's reaction. Gets really disappointing.
Good reaction Jen. The gratuitous scene you mentioned was one of the most famous and anticipated ones of the decade. In all the horror movies Jamie Leigh was in early in her career, she never had a topless scene. This was her first. It even got a mention in the first Scream movie. For Eddie, you have to watch Coming to America. Trust me, you will laugh your butt off. For Dan, his best movies are this, Ghostbusters, and The Blues Brothers. For both, they made their name on SNL. You might try some Best of… videos for each of them to really get a feel for them. A Jamie Leigh you might enjoy is A Fish Called Wanda. Some love it, some don't. But you'll have to watch to decide. Finally, I highly recommend you watch Dirty Rotten Scoundrels. I know you will love it. It is right up your alley. Have a Happy New Year Jennypenny.
A Fish Called Wanda (1988) is a very good call. As is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (1988). I'd like to add 'Without a Clue' (1988 again). A Sherlock Holmes comedy with Michael Caine. It's not without its flaws, but fans of Caine and Holmes usually enjoy it.
DRS has not just a great cast with the two main stars, but the support cast of Anton Rogers & Ian McDiarmid are also great. The scenes with Steve Martin pretending to be a character Ruprecht are just breathtaking 😊
Hi, Jen, really looking forward to your reaction to this funny movie. Dan Aykroyd is my favorite from the original SNL cast. This is your second movie in a row featuring a US senator. Al Franken plays a goofy baggage handler, along with his writing partner Tom Davis. They wrote on SNL from day 1.
The cop that was inventorying Dan Aykroyd’s possessions at the police station is Frank Oz. He’s the voice of Yoda, Miss Piggy, Animal, etc. He does a similar scene in “The Blues Brothers”.
0:56 That's funny to see. This is the old location of the Rocky statue. It was at a sports arena called The Spectrum but it was moved to the art museum next to the steps from the movie in 2006.
The short baggage handler is Al Franken, longtime writer and sometime actor on SNL, author of several political humor books, and former United States Senator.
That is funny, but the thing that can make me giggle just thinking about it is Mortimer's reaction to Randolph's heart attack. I have cried laughing at seeing it a few times.
In case no mentioned it Clarence Beeks was portrayed by the late Paul Gleeson who also portrayed the incompetent police chief Dwayne T. Robinson who was giving Bruce Willis a hard time in Die Hard.
Trivial info The police officer who mentions Winthorpes belongings is Frank Oz - the voice of Fozzy the Bear from the Muppets - AND the officer at the state prison in The Blues Brothers, doing the same with Jake Blues’ belongings. Have you btw seen The Blues Brothers? It’s a classic.
Well, that's Jim Belushi, John's younger brother, and one of the "two eighties guys [you] should know" is former United States Senator Al Franken (the other is his then-SNL partner, Tom Davis). The cop with the glasses that plants the PCP is Muppets creator Frank Oz, and the pawn shop owner is blues legend Bo Diddley! Lots of great people in this film!
Hi Jen, you're looking gorgeous as always, merry new year :) i'm so glad you've seen this comedy classic, it's so funny. Please react to Coming To America (1988) also starring Eddie Murphy & directed by John Landis. It's hilarious and is connected to this movie in a small way. Eddie Murphy is a comedy genius & I highly recommend him in The Golden Child (1986) it's really good and is underrated. And I highly recommend you react to the excellent 1980 comedy musical The Blues Brothers starring Dan Ackroyd.
One of the guys driving the gorilla around is Al Franken ...he was head writer on Saturday Night Live for years and later served as a US senator for over a decade.
When Miss Penelope's snooty friends hear the story, ending "...and she stepped on the ball!" just before Louis walks in, hearkens back to Auntie Mame (1958) when snooty Gloria tells her 'ghastly' story, ending, "...and I stepped on the ping pong ball!" in the same snooty Thurston Howell accent - always cracks me up. Franken and Davis comedy team were the two baggage handlers - Al Franken, the short stoner, went on to become US Senator from Minnesota - go figure. BTW, they're trading Commodity Futures, NOT stocks, despite Randall's instructions mentions 'stocks', he means 'contracts'. BEVERLY HILLS COP was Eddie's best early film and BOWFINGER (1999) was a surprise hit with Co-star Steve Martin.
Jen, First off, I hope you have at least 75K subscribers by next June. You're almost there. The butler (Denholm Elliott) was also Marcus Brody in the Indiana Jones movies, for what that's worth. Don Ameche as Mortimer was not the kind of guy to use foul language. Before he let loose with an F bomb, he apologized to the cast and crew. He also told the Director, he would only do ONE take, so they better get it right. And they did. I think there's another Beverly Hills Cop movie coming. I hope you have a safe and healthy 2024. Stay warm!!
what a spoiler for the next movie, you should say that only a certain scene will be related to this movie and not immediately reveal which characters 🤫
The duo you suggested might be 80s icons was Franken and Davis, a comedy duo who did occasional bits on Saturday Night Live. Al Franken had one of the great SNL bits as a solo commentator in which he claims that while the just ending 70's was the "Me decade" the 80s will be the Al Franken decade. (It is the way he develops the joke that made it a classic, he liked to hear his own name). He later became a US Senator and still does some political commentary.
In New York, Beverly Hills and other places, some people pay a lot more than $6,000 for a watch. Some cost over $50,000,,, $100,000,,, $500,000, and even $1,000,000.
Great reaction, Jen. Love this movie, I suggest "Coming to America"with Eddie. There's a cool little Easter egg in that movie. Eddie Murphy stand up "Raw" or "Delirious".
❤❤❤ Okay, Jen. Buddy cop Dan with Tom Hanks, DRAGNET. Based in a way on the TV series. Dan is the straight-laced guy, and Tom is the live wire. Eddie in a fantasy detective thing? THE GOLDEN CHILD. Lots of choices. Happy New Year
Fun review as always! TRADING PLACES still holds up as a classic comedy. Other Eddie Murphy essentials: 48 HRS. (1982), BEVERLY HILLS COP I & II (1984, 1987), THE GOLDEN CHILD (1986)...to start with!
Dan Aykroyd was on SNL, not SCTV. He also wasn't a stand-up comedian. I think you should watch him in The Blue Brothers (with John Belushi), Doctor Detroit, Spies Like Us (with Chevy Chase), and The Great Outdoors (with John Candy). You should watch Eddie Murphy in the Beverly Hills Cop movies (the 4th one was just released), and also the 48 Hours movies. Also, if you want to see Aykroyd in a truly bizarre movie, watch him in Nothing But Trouble with Chevy Chase, John Candy, and Demi Moore.
An absolute classic, the 80s was Eddie Murphy at his prime and he had so many great movies during that time like Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America and 48 hours which was his first movie.
Hey Hey there Jen Murray! First time I watched this was on video cassette at a friend's house. 😂 I WAS AGENT ORANGE! Hope you have a perfect weekend. Happy New Year.🎉😉👌💯💢💫
You want some Eddie Murphy standup? You must watch “Delirious” or “Raw”. But be warned, it’s not the Eddie Murphy of today. They are pretty raunchy. You might be a bit shocked. Delirious is the best.
Jen, pork bellies are a real thing. In the US, they are the cut of the pig that bacon, among other things, comes from . American bacon, that is. The Canadian variety comes from pork loins.
TBH most of eat regular bacon on a day to day basis. I can't remember the last time I had back bacon, which is what it is called here. Restaurants will sometimes have it in lieu of or in addition to ham.
Trading Places, and Coming to America are two of my favorite Eddie Murphy movies. The two movies are connected by one scene. For more Dan Aykroyd, The Blues Brothers is an awesome classic. For more Eddie Murphy movies I recommend 48 hours, Another 48 hours, and Bowfinger.
Want to see Stand up from Eddie... Watch Delirious, followed by Raw. His 2 biggest stand up specials. They never did another movie together. However you must watch Coming to America with Eddie Murphy as it does have a cool little Cameo in it related to this movie. And as far as Dan Akroyd I suggest the Great Outdoors with him and John Candy as a hilarious movie
I enjoyed seeing Akroyd performing as an affluent individual involved with prostitutes enough to recommend Dr.Detroit. He plays almost the same identical character , but in a much different and outrageous scenario. It's gets no love which shows how much Eddie Murphy carries this film.
Great review! BTW you didn't show it but the scene after 19:30 was probably the 2nd most famous "freeze frame" scene on VHS tapes among teenagers behind the famous "Basic Instinct" crossed leg scene! Haha
Eddie Murphy "Delirious" is a must watch stand up comedy act from the 80's! There is also Eddie Murphy "Raw" which I remember watching as a kid at my grandparents house, but haven't seen it since I was a teenager.
I'm sure lots of people have lots of suggestions for further comedies, so here's some more to add to the pile. Coming to America is a movie Eddie did after this one and has a pretty good reference back to Trading Places... also, it features James Earl Jones as an African king, so check it out. A later movie featuring Dan Aykroyd (and weirdly, James Earl Jones again) called Sneakers is a great ensemble cast caper/heist movie, so I think you'd dig it.
I love this movie so much. It's so crazy, I've watched it at least once a year, I think, since I was like 10 because it's on every year around Christmas and we would just end up watching it. But every couple of years I would notice more and more about the movie, just because at 10 I obvs don't understand as much as at 20. And when I switched from the dubbed version on tv to the OG (english) version on stream or dvd, there was so much more to discover. Just because a lot of idioms or cultural references were not being translated or translated differently
Such a good movie from the use of classical music to Murphy's "Legs! I have legs!" and Dan Aykroyd's Winthorpe going thru a real character arc to the droll Denholm Elliott. Also, Jamie Lee Curtis is molten hot. 😉 Great choice of movie, and fun to see Jen's reaction. 👏🎄
Hey Jen, if you didn't catch it, when Eddie Murphy is in jail, the man standing next to him is GINCARLO ESPOSITO aka STar Wars Moff Gideon, or from Breaking Bad, Far Cry, etc.
I work in the "Duke and Duke" building! They've maintained the boardroom as it was in the film. It's quite the tourist draw for those who know about it!
I went to school in the "police station" lol Community College of Philadelphia's Mint Building (literally the old US Mint building before they moved it), and across the street (where the police tow truck is parked) is Masterman middle/high school (ranked 4th in the country, btw)

An absolute classic, the 80s was Eddie Murphy at his prime and he had so many great movies during that time like Beverly Hills Cop, Coming to America and 48 hours which was his first movie.
48 Hours (and its sequel) is INCREDIBLE!!! 🤘😎🤘
Golden child

The Golden Child. One of my favorite Eddie Murphy movies and underrated.

Watch 48 Hours next, It's Eddie's best movie, also it's for adults
9:20 i am so glad you took inflation in to consideration. i heard another reviewer say 80k isn't that much. $80,000 in 1983 is $251,166.46 in 2023
Have you watched "Coming to America", an Eddie Murphy classic, there's a cameo of the Duke Brothers in it.
Jen don't know if you know this but the cop with the glasses is Frank Oz who voiced Miss Piggy in the Muppets and Yoda in Star Wars.
You can also catch Dan Aykroyd in the 1992 heist thriller "Sneakers" starring Robert Redford and a stacked cast.
Great review! BTW you didn't show it but the scene after 19:30 was probably the 2nd most famous "freeze frame" scene on VHS tapes among teenagers behind the famous "Basic Instinct" crossed leg scene! Haha
Eddie Murphy's Raw is classic 80s Eddie stand-up. Amazing. .
Eddie Murphy "Delirious" is a must watch stand up comedy act from the 80's! There is also Eddie Murphy "Raw" which I remember watching as a kid at my grandparents house, but haven't seen it since I was a teenager.
Not to be confused with John Candy's "Delirious," a comedy film about a soap opera writer who finds himself in the world that he created.
The very next Eddie Murphy movie you should watch is coming to America because there is a cameo of this movie.
Eddie Murphy's Beverly Hills Cop 2 was a great sequel!
This is a great Christmas movie!! ;) Happy New Year Jen!! Looking forward to another year of your reactions 🥂
🔔 JEN: ANOTHER GREAT EDDIE MURPHY MOVIE YOU'D LOVE: "48 HOURS"!
The Duke brothers make a brief appearance in "Coming to America" if you haven't already seen it.
Great reaction, one of the funniest moments of the movie was when Louis was eating on the bus out of his jacket. 😂😂👏🥰
😍My favorite "Penelope" was Penelope Pitstop😂
so basically at the end of the movie they will pay 29 cents for oranges and sell them at $1.42 cent thats how they got rich
HAPPY NEW YEAR 🎊🎊😊
You haven't yet watch *(Coming To America)* that needs to be on your list because it has a connection to this movie
I hope we can get you and your sister the most nicest/ fancy brand of champagne or mimosa ya'll have ever had on new years ❤
The $394 million they owed at the end is like $1.2 billion today
