The best thing about this movie is Jeff Daniels. Jim Carrey had blown up at this point, but this was his first feature film where he shares the spotlight with someone else, and Jeff Daniels (who wasn’t know for comedy) keeps up with him the entire time, and never plays second fiddle. That said, the Big Gulp line was always my favorite, and from what I remember, it was completely improvised by Carrey. The Truman Show was Jim Carrey’s break-out drama role, and kind of blew a lot of peoples’ minds, both with its story, and Carrey’s performance. Eternal Sunshine on the Spotless Mind is also worth a watch. I’m a little biased on that one, because I absolutely adore Kate Winslet, and think she and Jim Carrey had great chemistry, though it’s not really held in as high of a regard as The Truman Show these days. Since I brought up Kate Winslet, I’d recommend The Reader, Little Children, Iris, and Heavenly Creatures. This is completely random, but “The Reader” reminded me of “The Believer”, from 2001. It’s one of Ryan Gosling’s first dramatic roles, in which he plays a Jewish neo-nazi (based on a true story). It’s probably a little too heavy and political to watch on your channel, but I think it’s one of the best films ever made about modern antisemitism and Jewish identity. Oh yeah, and the best film of the aughts (just my opinion - but I’m correct in this instance) is Lost in Translation. You need to watch Lost in Translation.
There is nothing better, and no better end of the day and workweek pick-me-up, than watching Jen react to a comedy. This was exactly what I needed today. Another perfect reaction. You are one of the best in the biz.
I've now watched this reaction at least six times. The best part of the reaction is when the guys are in the dog van with "Mental," the hit man -- and the absolute best Jen moment OF ALL TIME is her reaction to Jim Carrey's "most annoying sound in the world." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Absolute peak of Jim Carrey. This one, Ace Ventura movies, Cable Guy and Mask. Actually Ace Ventura Pet Detective, Dumb And Dumber and Mask all came out in 94. Freakin insane. He can be very good in dramatic roles. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Number 23, Man On The Moon and The Truman Show. He can act.
Both the "Hey Big Glups" and the "We Landed on the Moon" were just added by Carey improve style. In both cases it was suppose to be shot of him walking by. They both made it in the final film and are quoted by fans often.
Not only was Jim Carrey in a Dirty Harry movie, as someone mentioned, so was Felton Perry who plays Detective Dale in this. In Magnum Force, he was Harry’s partner, and had a little trouble when he opened his mailbox…
Dumb & Dumber is one of my guilty pleasures. My favorite improvised scene is when Lloyd asks his fellow passengers if they want to hear the world's most annoying noise. You can see Jeff Daniels breaking character.
My favourite moment is the most annoying sound scene, watch back and look closely at Jeff Daniels about to corpse (as it was improvised) and see how they quickly edit it!
It's the perfect comedy. Not a wasted scene or moment. So many amazing throwaway gags that are quite subtle as well. This is Carrey at the peak of his comedy for me. Nothing else he's done makes me laugh like this one does.
I worked with Jeff Daniels in 1999 on a film made exclusively for A&E called "The Crossing" in which I played one of the soldiers for his George Washington.
Jim Carrys best performances can be found in Man on the Moon, Eternal Sunshie of the Spotless Mind, Lemony Snickets and a Series of Unfortunate Events, and Kickass 2. Special mention - Earth Girls are Easy.
Not sure if anyone already told you... But yes.. Jim Carey chipped his tooth when he was younger and he had it fixed. So Jim Carey had the Idea that it would be funnier if he had his chipped tooth again for this role.. so he had that piece removed just for the movie and re-fixed it after filming. So yeah.. real chipped tooth.. and he was right.. Made it that much funnier! lol
We were eatin' good in the mid 90s with all these comedy movies with special thanks to Jim Carrey. I remember him being a guest on SNL in 1996 and it had to be one of the funniest episodes I had ever seen. He is a master of comedy.
The Farrelly Brothers (Peter and Bobby) are also well known for their next three comedy films "Kingpin" (1996), a cult classic sports comedy starring Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray, Randy Quaid and Lin Shaye from the Insidious franchise, "There's Something About Mary" (1998), a well known romantic comedy classic starring Cameron Diaz, Ben Stiller, Matt Dillon and Lin Shaye again, and "Shallow Hal" (2001), a pretty good but controversial gross out comedy starring Jack Black, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jason Alexander and Laura Kightlinger. Peter Farrelly would go on to direct "Green Book" (2018), which actually won Best Picture at the Academy Awards that year!
Jim Carrey is an incredible actor, it'a worth watch ALL of his dramas, even the bad ones lol Great Ones to watch: Truman (obvi) Eternal Sunshine (obvi) Man on the Moon (Amazing) I Love You Phillip Morris (great) The Majestic (good) Also Comedies just in case: Ace Ventura, Bruce Almighty, Liar Liar (All the same Director)
His movie "Cable Guy" seems to get not much love from fans who think it was a bit dark compared to his other comedies but I think it's one of his most iconic if underrated film and it even has Matthew Broderick, Ben Stiller and Jack Black in it. But "The Number 23" is his darkest movie yet.
Hey Jen! Jim Carrey had actually chipped his tooth in grade school. He had the idea to take off the bonding revealing the chip, to make his character more deranged. The same thing happened to me. Same tooth, true story.
The rare film that literally lives up to its title. Carrey had a capped front tooth - hence the damaged one in the film. The Monkees was a pre-Fab Four - *(so no not an influence for The Beatles - just the opposite). Re: Jeff Daniels in comedy (you need to see SOMETHING WILD with Melanie Griffith & Ray Liotta, Stat) When Daniels worked with Clint Eastwood on BLOODWORK Clint confessed the bathroom scene actually happened to him IRL.
Oh.. one more thing. Me personally.. I still like the sequel.. it's a fun watch! Also... To me... the prequel is Hilarious! The two younger guys playing Harry and Lloyd do a DAMN GOOD JOB portraying the characters and how Jim and Jeff played them! You would enjoy that one as well in my opinion! Still lots of laughs!! I hope you watch them!!
The Monkees were a direct parody of the Beatles, but Lloyd is of a Reddit level of intelligence. I would imagine spicy food isn't as popular in Mooseland as it is in the southern USA. Most of us eat Tex Mex for 80% of our meals. Bathroom scene: welcome to a Farelly Brothers movie.
3:54 "Oh, god. Oh, man. He ran _right_ off there." Yeah. When the ticket agent said, "Wait! Sir, you can't go in there!" what he meant was "The plane's not _there,_ anymore!"
Love it when you get the giggles, Jen! Yes, watch the 2 Ace Ventura movies, but I think the funny Jim Carrey movie for you is The Mask. I strongly recommend that one for you. See ya Sunday!
The two guys drinking Big Gulps outside the convenience store actually wandered into the scene and Jim just interacted with them. 😂 Some RUclipsr actually recreated the ride to aspen on a mini bike!
Hi Jen and happy Friday!! This is one of Jim Carrey's 3 BIG hits from 1994; Dumb and Dumber, The Mask, Ace Ventura. The year that made his career. Have fun and a great weekend!
My dad and I both became big Jeff Daniels fans in the early 90s for completely different movies. He hated this one but Daniels played his favorite Civil War general, Joshua Chamberlain of the 20th Maine, in the film Gettysburg (1993). Some of my dad's ashes were even scattered at the 20th Maine monument in Gettysburg by his request. Jeff Daniels is an accomplished dramatic character actor. One of the best.
The whole "want to hear the most annoying sound in the world" bit was ad-libbed by Jim. The reaction on the face of the guy playing Mental was genuine. You can also see Jeff Daniels looking like he doesn't know what's going on. Carrey is a comic genius🤣🤣
The Majestic is a fantastic, lesser remembered or known Carey dramedy (and you'll love Truman Show). For Daniels he just has such incredible range... really anything you'd want to see him in you could.
when i saw this first with like 12, a friend and me didn't think, that the tongue would really stick to freezing metal like that... so we went out, chose a metal pole, right next to a busy street... and tried it simultaneously... i still have a scar on my tongue from ripping it off, and it really stretched quite a bit, like in the movie... yes, we saw dumb and dumber and went out to imitate what they did. (i have a degree in mathematics now... so it got better, i guess)
My sister and I would quote "His head fell off!" all the time LOL!! I think that slip at the bar was real. You could see Jim Carrey look down at the ground after LOL! Also, the car ride scene, that anger in the dude was genuine. He was really mad during that shoot, because they kept having to do it over and over.
Seabass was played by hockey player Cam Neely. The Farley Brothers are from Boston and often have players from those teams cameo in their films. Tom Brady is in Stuck on You.
There's a ton of great Farrelly Bros movies. This one is by far their dumbest, though we do love it. Most of their stuff is just as funny but with more heart. You almost have to ignore descriptions though, because their movies sound like they'll be awful and mean spirited, but they absolutely are not. Most are really heartfelt, but still hilarious. My favorites are the Ringer with Johnny Knoxville and Katherine Heigl,, and Stuck on You with Matt Damon and Greg Kinnear.
Black hole expert Stephen Hawking loved this film and all of Jim Carrey's work. Jim even traveled to meet with the physicist in England: dumb and smarter! One of the pranks those two rascals did was to have Hawking pretend to drive his wheelchair over Jim's foot. The occasion was immortalized in photos that can be found in various black holes of the internet.
oh this was one to see in the theater... there were moments of just black out laughter where you couldn't hear the movie for the next five minutes... the montage in aspen had me in tears.

I showed my eight-year-old the fight scene at the restaurant and she thought it was the most hilarious thing ever and kept watching it over and over
There is nothing better, and no better end of the day and workweek pick-me-up, than watching Jen react to a comedy. This was exactly what I needed today.
Another perfect reaction. You are one of the best in the biz.
Thanks! :)
I've now watched this reaction at least six times. The best part of the reaction is when the guys are in the dog van with "Mental," the hit man -- and the absolute best Jen moment OF ALL TIME is her reaction to Jim Carrey's "most annoying sound in the world." 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
18:39 "Hey guys, woah, Big Gulps huh? Alright...welp, see ya later" was totally improvised by Carrey and they left it in.
Jen, "should I watch Dante's Peak?"
Yes, please
I heard the "most annoying sound in the world" was a dig at a Steven Tyler performance 😂
Fun fact. The Gas man is the actor who played the clown in Uncle Buck
I see this the movies twice. I was 13 when it came out. It’s still the hardest I’ve ever heard a movie crowd laugh.
He can act.
I love the moment when Carrey turns the mood 180 degrees in a second with that "Im sick and tired of having nobody" bit. That boy can act, I tells ya.
14:32 that was actually a real rage from the actor, he was very annoyed by the noise
This movie definitely won the annual wheeze award from Jen.
I don’t know if I like watching this more or hearing you laugh 🤣🤣 You crack me up🤣🤣
It's the perfect comedy. Not a wasted scene or moment. So many amazing throwaway gags that are quite subtle as well. This is Carrey at the peak of his comedy for me. Nothing else he's done makes me laugh like this one does.
I worked with Jeff Daniels in 1999 on a film made exclusively for A&E called "The Crossing" in which I played one of the soldiers for his George Washington.
right on, I heard he is a pretty nice guy and really smart, and plays music :D
"Would that really work?" Yes, Jen. Yes it really works!
Made it that much funnier! lol
Last time I saw this movie is over 20 years ago, I forgot how funny it is, thanks Jen
This movie is literally my childhood/teenage years captured in a bottle, so good to see it reacted to.
It is so hard to believe this film is now 30 years old. Another comedy classic worth a look is Me, Myself and Irene
Jim Carrey is an incredible actor, it'a worth watch ALL of his dramas, even the bad ones lol
Great Ones to watch:
Truman (obvi)
Eternal Sunshine (obvi)
Man on the Moon (Amazing)
I Love You Phillip Morris (great)
The Majestic (good)
Also Comedies just in case: Ace Ventura, Bruce Almighty, Liar Liar (All the same Director)
The Truman Show is coming next week!
Don't forget Me, Myself and Irene
His movie "Cable Guy" seems to get not much love from fans who think it was a bit dark compared to his other comedies but I think it's one of his most iconic if underrated film and it even has Matthew Broderick, Ben Stiller and Jack Black in it. But "The Number 23" is his darkest movie yet.
@@johnlloyddy7016 Yep. Two of his best.
People don't know about I Love You Phillip Morris and they SHOULD! Amazing film lol it's relentless!
This movie elevates pure idiocy to brilliance! Still my favorite comedy ever.
8:25 funny how guilty Carrey acts here despite not actually having done it
Dante's Peak is a great overlooked disaster movie, featuring Linda 'Sarah Connor' Hamilton and Pierce 'Hello Jennypenny' Brosnan. It's lots of fun.
The soundtrack for this movie is an alt-rock classic.
I was a Sophomore in High School when this came out. It shaped my sophomoric sense of humor to this day.
Hey Jen! Jim Carrey had actually chipped his tooth in grade school. He had the idea to take off the bonding revealing the chip, to make his character more deranged. The same thing happened to me. Same tooth, true story.
I think you will LOVE the criminally underrated tucker and dale vs evil
The rare film that literally lives up to its title. Carrey had a capped front tooth - hence the damaged one in the film. The Monkees was a pre-Fab Four - *(so no not an influence for The Beatles - just the opposite). Re: Jeff Daniels in comedy (you need to see SOMETHING WILD with Melanie Griffith & Ray Liotta, Stat) When Daniels worked with Clint Eastwood on BLOODWORK Clint confessed the bathroom scene actually happened to him IRL.
The fantasy fight i the restaurant always makes me lol. 😂
Oh.. one more thing.
How have you not watched this??!! Can’t wait!
Oh, man. He ran _right_ off there."
Yeah. When the ticket agent said, "Wait! Sir, you can't go in there!" what he meant was "The plane's not _there,_ anymore!"
thats a big yes to Dantes Peak such a good film 😁
Jen, I was just about to go and get productive, then I saw this reaction. Drat!
5:28 never realized this until now but that song is also the theme song to the show "Peaky Blinders"
If I remember correctly, the movie Lloyd mentions after the Seabass scene was actually a reference to movie Jeff Daniels starred in previously.
Dante's Peak is awesome yes please watch it :)
Seabass was played by hockey player Cam Neely. The Farley Brothers are from Boston and often have players from those teams cameo in their films. Tom Brady is in Stuck on You.
Great reaction, Jen. The sequel and prequel are both good fun as well. Yes, please do react to "The Mask", another winner from Jim Carey.
Yes. The Monkees were a huge influence on the Beatles.
Jim did have a broken tooth, but had it capped years before. For the movie, he had his dentist remove the cap.
This movie was a staple for me and my roommate in college. We were constantly quoting it. (My wife and I still do.) 😆
The big gulps part is just Jim being himself lol
oh this was one to see in the theater... there were moments of just black out laughter where you couldn't hear the movie for the next five minutes... the montage in aspen had me in tears.
Them singing 'Mocking Bird' was a reference to Nation Lampoon Vacation.
It's my favorite comedy movie of all time! It's brilliant.
Your laughter in this reaction tops all others. True laughter is always appreciated.
