I think it’s the best comedic parting shot of all time. In the intro, before the reaction, when Samantha was getting all the Jim Carey movies mixed up, I was hoping so much that Daniel was going to LOVINGLY joke “You’ll have to excuse my wife. She’s a little slow.”

So many hilarious moments and lines in this movie, but one of my all time favorites will always be "WE GOT NO FOOD, WE GOT NO JOBS! OUR PETS HEADS ARE FALLING OFF!"
Also, Jim Carrey in 1994 might have had the greatest year an actor has had as far as classic comedies with "Ace Ventura", "The Mask" and "Dumb and Dumber".

Fun Fact: Jim Carrey made $7M from this movie while Jeff Daniels made only 50,000. Carrey initially asked for $2M but the studio turned him down. During negotiations, though, Ace Ventura and The Mask came out, and raised his star power to the point that he negotiated $7M from the $16M budget. Meanwhile, Jeff Daniels was looking to break from type by doing a comedy. The studio wanted an A-list comedian and didn't want Daniels, so they offered him $50K to discourage him. His agent thought the movie would be career suicide and didn't make a counter-offer, also hoping to discourage him. Daniels surprised everyone by taking the gig anyway.
The studio was so down on Daniels, though, that they filmed his first few scenes without Carrey so they could replace him without expensive reshoots. Carrey supported him the whole time, and when the studio saw how much chemistry they had together, they decided to stop further casting and stick with the duo. And the rest is history!

Sea Bass was played by Cam Neely, who played for the Boston Bruins. Really good forward whose career was cut short by injuries. He did an interview where he talked about the making of the movie and had a really funny story from it. When they filmed the scene where he breaks into the bathroom stall, not being a trained actor he wasn’t quite able to get the shocked reaction they were looking for. So Jim Carrey told him “don’t worry I’ll get this to work.” And when they did the next take, when he opened the door, Jim Carrey was mooning him. And his reaction to that was the take they used in the film. 😅

There is a Jim Carey movie that is really under the radar about comedian/ entertainer Andy Kaufman called The Man on the Moon which is one of my faves. Carey was so keen to land the role that he invited the Producers to his home where he played hours of Kaufman footage to them on his big cinema set up. It was a while before anyone realised that it was footage Carey had shot of himself playing Andy. It's a weird, small artsy film, but it touches hearts.

The scene where Lloyd does "the most annoying sound", Jim Carrey improvised that sound. Jeff Daniels' reaction is actually real because he didn't know Carrey was going to do it, not only that, Mike Starr's reaction is real too. The big gulp scene was also improvised by Carrey.

@@Only1Noodle 🤣 Yeah, I’d heard about the improved “most annoying sound ever”, but didn’t know about that improved “big gulps” line!! That makes it even more hilarious!!!🤣🤣
And on a different & even deeper level, it was an even more impressive & admirably brilliant character choice by Carrey!!!
It seemed obvious throughout the movie, that in his character profile somewhere, he desired to fit in…to be accepted (…see scenes with Mary,”…I hate goodbyes!🤣🤣🤣…”; fantasy of her friends dying over his jokes; the extra efforts made to show “the gas man” his knowledge of “interesting” information (…” the most annoying sound ever” 😆…) & how fun they were as road trip companions; etc, kinda showed that.
Then, knowing that those extras didn’t have any lines written for them, to comment/ask them a simple question about their “Big Gulps, hugh??😃”, provided more evidence of his character’s profile, which is what writers write to show the audience, in different ways.
Shows Carrey’s depth of knowledge of his character & understanding of elements of being able to show it! HIGHLY impressive, Mr. Carrey!!!
Thanks for sharing that very interesting information!!! More blessings TO YOU, for this blessing I’ve gotten FROM you, my friend!!!🙏🏾🥰

Since you brought it up: a "Screwball Comedy" is a movie genre originated in the 30s. Bringing Up Baby (Cary Grant & Katherine Hepburn star) is the definitive movie of that genre (imo). "A screwball" always has fast-paced, witty dialogue with very farcical situations. They also have very over the top slapstick situations. I highly recommend "Baby" - both Cary and Katherine portrayed roles unlike what they are better known for. PS Just today, I had to REALLY pee but was waiting for my mom to get back to the car after shopping. My mind went to this movie, where the cop drank some of the "beer." How random! lol And, only recently has my friends stopped saying, "I like it a lot" like Lloyd said it to Mary. It was great to hear again!

Please consider Kingpin. It's another Farrelly's comedy that they did between Dumb & Dumber and There's Something About Mary, which was not quite as successful and often gets forgotten. However, it is just as great of a story and the humor is just as good, with Bill Murray giving maybe the most memorable performance of any actor in those films. It may be the most original of the 3 movies. Siskel and Ebert actually went out of their way to not just give the movie two thumbs up, but to actually talk about it during appearances and on bonus shows to try and help it get noticed.
