Jim Carrey said on Inside The Actor’s Studio that after he made Ace Ventura he met Anthony Hopkins, and was surprised to find out they both used the same acting technique for Ace Ventura and Hannibal Lecter respectively. Hopkins thought of crocodiles and spiders when he played as Hannibal because Lecter is an ambush predator. Whereas Carrey thought of Ace as a very smart and hyperactive bird, hence all the large and quick body movements, especially the bobbing head movements.
It is not within the span you consider his prime, but this line of comments seems a good place to mention The Majestic. I believe it was a box office flop. And it is outside of his typical goofball schtick, but I liked it
About Dan Marino, He is considered one of the best quarterbacks and NFL players of all time and many say the best player to never win a Superbowl and only made it to one in 1984. Most fans and NFL analysts agree the main reason was he just wasn't given a good enough team most of his career to win. Marino himself though had a incredible career and vast majority of people agree that if he had been on better teams in the 80's like the Steelers, 49er's, Raiders or Giants he likely would have won multiple superbowls.
The only reason Cannibal Corpse was in the movie was because Jim Carrey was a fan and a metalhead. Hell, I think he's still a metal head cause in Sonic 2, his character Dr. Robotnik rocks out to Walk by Pantera, and when interviewed about that he talked about being into metal bands like them and Machinehead
@alexp601 everything about the reveal of Einhorn. It is one of the most transphobic scenes in movie history and as someone who was a teenager at the time this movie came out it definitely encouraged a lot of disgusting transphobic discourse. It was actually one of a few times most kids I knew were ever exposed to anything close to someone being transgender and we were shown it was beyond disgusting. I was kind of disappointed they downplayed it so much.
Filmmakers first approached Rick Moranis to play Ace Ventura, but Moranis declined the role. They then considered casting Judd Nelson or Alan Rickman, and they also considered changing Ace Ventura to be female and casting Whoopi Goldberg as the pet detective. David Alan Grier also turned down the offer to play Ace. Ultimately they noticed Jim Carrey's performance in the sketch comedy show In Living Color and cast him as Ace Ventura.
It’s so crazy to me as a 90s kid growing up with these movies on VHS and watching them endlessly and people are just seeing it for the first time in 2025
YOU GUYS ARE KILLING IT WITH THE BACK TO BACK CLASSIC COMEDIES! MANNNN I LOVE THIS FILM! I MAY HAVE BEEN TOO YOUNG FOR THIS MOVIE WHEN I FIRST WATCHED BUT IT WAS ON REPEAT THROUGHOUT MY WHOLE LIFE
15:03 He's doing a James T. Kirk impression and later Scotty (the Star Trek mechanic) when he talks into the pipe and last the Doctor from the same lol
The Finkle=Einhorn twist was a spoof of the movie _The Crying Game_ which came out a year prior, about a man who falls in love with a transvestite (the Boy George song is the theme from that movie). Also, Einhorn is German for unicorn, so the name fits.
And when you take into account that a "dolphin" is also used as a euphemism for a particular part of male anatomy, you realize the entire movie is a inside joke for looking for a "member".
Something I didn't realize until later, is him jiggling the keys is a warning for the animals to hide lol. The other thing I love about Ace is that no matter how crazy he acts, he is actually a good detective. The part where he bumps the musician is not scripted lol. I love the second one even more, so hilarious.
The detail people always miss with this movie is that Einhorn is not a persona Finkle created. Einhorn was a real person who already existed that Finkle killed and is impersonating. Also, that Finkle has been plotting and waiting for literally over a decade for his revenge scheme.
Yeah this detail is always left out when people cry transphobia because they desperately want Finkle, an actual criminal, to be trans for "representation"
I don't think Finkle killed Einhorn. He was still at the hospital when Einhorn went missing. He just read it in the papers and decided to steal her identity.
The metal band playing is Cannibal Corpse wit original singer Chris Barnes n Jim Carrey asked for them to be in the movie cuz he listens to them 😭😂 LEGEND.
This movie has a special place in me and my twin brothers hearts. We can quote almost the entire movie. So thankful our mum showed us it when we were so young. It’s absurdly funny. Jim Carrey is the GOAT
I saw this in the theater with my dad. Our faces hurt from laughing when it was over. Afterward, throughout the 90s, we hardly missed a Jim Carrey movie in the theater.
“ Ventura!” “ yes Satan I’m sorry sir I thought you were somebody else.”😂 “What’s all that pet food for?” “Fiber.”😂😂 “La hoo sa er” best line in the film The sliding glass scene is hilarious with him singing.
Also, check out Ace Ventura When Nature Calls next. I love all 3(the 3rd one, "Ace Ventura Jr Pet Detective is part of the trilogy even though most people don't count that one bc it didn't have Jim Carrey in it)
Hi! great reaction!!...You all also missed one detail: the song played when Ace discovered that his boss is a man, is the song The Crying Game from the movie The Crying Game. If you had watched that movie, you would have realized WHY that song was played at that exactly moment in the movie. I will not spoile it.
It’s so crazy how synchronization works sometimes. I literally just watched this movie last night with a friend as an early birthday hangout for me. Thing is I didn’t really remember it aside from the beginning part, and that was when I was a kid. I’m turning 23. And the day after I watch it, y’all upload this video lol
In a world that feels so heavy and dark as of late, I'm super grateful for this channel for offering some joy, laughs and escapism. Thank you for brightening up my Saturday 🫶🏻
Commenting to re-traumatize Coy!! 😂😂😂😂 I love this movie. I threw a 90s themed birthday party for my 30th and my best friend came dressed as Ace in the asylum with the tutu, the hair and everything😂😂
Ace Ventura and School of Rock are my favorite comedies. Super glad y’all did a reaction to this, and I’m still waiting for that School of Rock reaction lol
Fun fact, there really wasnt much of a script in these movies, jim carrey was like let me do it, and he made up most of the lines on the spot just followed the plot somewhat. Even the ass bits where his own gags he added
The difference between comedy like Reynolds and Carrey is the physical side. Reynolds does some physical comedy, but his true comedic talent is his line delivery. Unrelated to this movie, but could you watch Mouse Trap? Nathan Lane, and Christopher Walken.
Hello guys please reacts Dick Tracy (1990) Cliffhanger (1993) and of course Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls (1995)
Awesome reaction!!! If you like young Jim Carrey movies, then please react to “Once Bitten” (1985). 🙏🏽
The second movie is better. ;)
Just so you guys know. Dan Marino is most likely the best quarterback to never win a Super Bowl. And IMPO I don't even think it's close. 👍
Jim Carrey is a cartoon character stuck in live action, and no one can convince me otherwise lmao
He's basically Roger Rabbit
That''s why The Mask is so good.
