I heard an interview she did for BBC for her latest album in which she mentions hyperballad and what it means. She says imagine love as 3 separate glass eggs: in one you have the ideal, the other the mundane daily chores, and another with the shadows. So every morning she goes to the edge of the cliff to deal with her shadows so she can feel safe again in her relationship. You hit the nail right on the head. 👏
No matter how many times I hear HYPERBALLAD, it still moves me and Hits a certain spot in my heart/soul. The Longing for Love & Companionship, The Fear of Losing That Love because of One's own Insecurities and Self Doubt/Sabotage and The unique Coping mechanisms each human posseses and implements just to maintain a Sense of Sanity and control. I highly recommend watching a mini concert she did in NYC's Riverside Church, around 2001. Small , intimate but with beautiful acoustics.
A fan favorite song and easily her most acclaimed by the critics. Such a unique and wonderful song, the lyrics are heavy stuff, she dealing with depression and she went through all this just be “safe” and well with her lover. The influence of the euro-electronic music here is top notch, she felt very inspired when she moved to the UK. Thanks again!
Your right. I recently read that this song can be read as she needs having her own personal space to clear her head and thoughts before starting and enjoying the day with her loved one.
My favorite Bjork song. I saw Tori Amos in 1996 and she performed hey Jupiter with Purple Rain leanings and threw in some lyrics from Huper-Ballad. I love Post.
I just flipping love this song! I had to throw this onto the turntable after seeing this… so amazing! … it’s the lyrics, the vocal, and the arrangements… brilliant
To me this song is about the contrast of recognizing the beautiful that surrounds you and yet, at the same time , fantasizing about ending it all. Thus the contrast in the music. It goes from peaceful to urgent and back to peaceful. Did it all end? Or does the cycle begin again? 💕🚙🍾🍴🥄🍴💥💥💥
Love your reactions, especially for Bjork. "Isobel" and "Possibly Maybe" are two other great ones on this album (love the whole album). You can't miss "All is Full of Love" off Homogenic, but I know by watching your videos, that you will totally fall in love with the rest of Vespertine.
I'm really looking forward to hearing the rest of Homogenic actually. I just listened to Joga again and, much as I loved Hyperballad, I easily prefer Joga.
@@bridgethegapreactions homogenic is truly her masterpiece But vespertine is her magnum opus Their is usual debate on this topic but vespertine is my personal favorite but it did take me time to appreciate it and it is VERY intricate in its design One thing I learnt is to shut your brain off and let that album take over you Only then you can truly experience the blissful joy that is brings Because some pleasures are meant to be earned
Oh god THANK YOU for including that Robyn beat. It's so good. Thanks for linking those 2 in my brain. Check out "All The Modren Things" too. Great song by Bjork with this easy, shuffling retro vibe.
I really recommed this alternate version she recorded with just strings and her voice. It is just gorgeous and perhaps the best strings arrangement I have heard in contemporary music: m.ruclips.net/video/TOwHxXiJXY4/видео.html
This used to be my daily wake up song❤ I always thought that production wise from Hyperballad to her next album Homogenic is not that huge of a transition as it is mostly reviewed. The string section at the end can transition into Joga seamlesly. Have you ever listened to the live cover Robyn did for Björk?
It's an aspirated B, so it should be pronounced like a mixture of P and B. And then there's the surname... Can't wait for u to hear Family from Vulnicura.
Perhaps have a look at/listen Joga live @ the BBC. Just her and the strings. If unheard do the studio version first… this live version of, arguably, her finest song, shows her vocal abilities starkly and powerfully - if you had any doubts.
Even for a huge Bjork fan like me, this one's a bit of a cringe lyrically. I don't know... it sounds like something written by a 14 year old who so badly wants to believe she's an eccentric outcast.

That's awesome thanks for letting me know! Maybe I'll talk about lyrics more often

"I go through all this BEFORE you wake me up."
The feeling of not having control of your darker side is so true.
Your right.

This song is truly exquisite. Bjork is a gift to music and to us
My favorite Bjork song.

I love Post.
My fave björk song🎵
Another great song from Bjork is called "Come To Me" from her debut album.
The live version rearranged with Arca for the Vulnicura tour is life changing.
She’s the best, THE-BEST ❤️
I just flipping love this song! I had to throw this onto the turntable after seeing this… so amazing! … it’s the lyrics, the vocal, and the arrangements… brilliant
Robyn actually performed Hyperballad in front of Bjork for a ceremony honoring Bjork that was a great performance you should check out.
Sounds amazing, I'll do a reaction to it at some point

Such a great song. Lyrically solid. Musically - the build to it's crescendo - is so gratifying. Thanks for the reactions Johnny.

A dj randomly played Isobel at a club a while back. I was the only one dancing 😡😆

Exactly this. ☝️
Ooh I love with every Heartbeat. Love that Robyn album. The songs are very similar It never occurred to me.
Shes a magical master ! Luv her
I'm so used to the live version of this that I forget about the doubled vocals at the end, which are, just amazing.

I'll add it to the list!
The hyper beats at the end to me are her throwing things off the cliff until the smooth, calm, strings at the end. Great review.
You should listen to Robyn’s live performance of Hyper ballad for Bjork in the audience! ❤😊❤😊❤😊❤
I'm excited for that one

I collected most of her CD singles which were usually imported from the UK. There's quite a lot of them.
Björk is best girl
Love your reactions, man. Keep'em coming :)
hyperballad is one of my favorites, headphone test track every time.
Nice to hear her name pronounced correctly. I said it wrong myself for many years.
My favorite Bjork song!

You should react to Isobel, Hunter, Venus As A Boy
There are no words..
I had this album on cassette tape.
The music video is crazy.

Two of the greatest females in the music business, Bjork and PJ Harvey
It’s basically Bauhaus..she made a great remix
could you react to "Monotonia " of shakira Please...!!
We need more Janet! Time to step into the late ‘80s and ‘90s and do her music videos if you can!
I like your reaction vids. Please react to Unison ☺️
Even for a huge Bjork fan like me, this one's a bit of a cringe lyrically. I don't know... it sounds like something written by a 14 year old who so badly wants to believe she's an eccentric outcast.
No bye
Ehh.. disagree
Tbh I think you just described your own self
She wanted to give you the chance to think that…
This is probably one of her only good songs. Most things by Bjork, while incredibly creative, are stupid and unlistenable. Facts
I've been in love with falling in love with this song ever since it was released.
