The song for me is one of the few that elict an immediate emotional response. For me it's about, how even in a great relationship, you're having to surrender and give up parts of yourself. The cracking of her voice and english as a second language lyrics just make it all the more brilliant, they just make the emotion feel more pure, untainted by sophisticated words.
Bjork looks stunning IMO, as well as being mysterious and a great music composer.
"later... with jools holland" is a must-see show as they just have all of these great artists performing with jools being the host and performing with a few of them. there's several from radiohead, bjork, primal scream, david bowie, paul mccartney, kylie minogue, queens of the stone age, the beach boys, elvis costello, and many others that are worth seeking out.
Radiohead did a whole show after Kid A. came out, I think. As in a whole hour of Radiohead, no other bands.
Later with JH is how I first got into Bjork. I saw the show where she did three songs from Homogenic, and bought all her albums the next day.
Out of the huge library of Björk songs, "Hyperballad" is tied with "Overture" (The intro brass ensemble song for Dancer in the Dark), as my favorite.
Mine would be Cocoon. Thom Yorke has said Unravel is his favourite song of all time, I think.
Pagan poetry, unison and all is full of love and joga
Actually most of her songs are masterpieces
One of my all time fav tracks ..magical❤
That’s 1000% jazz drummer vibes. Of course Bjork has a jazz and classical training underneath it all.
Omg ixi!! How do you keep reading my mind??
Was just thinking recently how much I would love an analysis of björk in general, and hyperballad specifically!
This particular performance is amazing, but I was inspired by her coachella performance. Anyway
Thank you!
You're absolutely right how this song would work in any kind of arrangement. Two Minutes To Late Night did a very powerful cover of this, featuring KsE's Adam D. among others.
I really enjoyed this deep dive into this classic. xoxo
I very much appreciated your knowledge of music and your explanation of it.
Such an amazing song.
Ixi, I miss the community and having the time to watch your videos. Sending hugs and love.
Her one and only movie dancer in the dark. Fantastically done. Thx for upload.
Yo! Thanks for the quick shout out!
(The guy on Instagram doing the all guitar/vocal cover 🙌🏻)
I wasn’t able to catch this live but I’m glad I watched it today!
I’m about to sit down and work on the percussive sections now, it’s always a fun challenge with just voice and string instruments. Lots of pedals and plugins 😅
I’m totally using your recommendation on building percussion in layers as the song builds!!
I loved all of your thoughts on the arrangement and I’m absolutely adding some arpeggiation for certain sections.
I’ll send ya a message through Instagram if I finish it up relatively soon 🤘🏻
(And you were definitely thinking of The Lovers by NiN, can confirm)
The voice crack hits me every time. It shows how much that safety means to her
The synth is a Waldorf Wave if I'm not mistaken
One of the best song ever written
there is no delay on snare drum. snare drum has 2 mics on it. Thats create stereo sprad. that delay fel coms from drum synth.
I love this song! ❤
wow
Later is a BBC series in the UK.
ixi ... if you're really getting into Bjork, you should check out her full-length movie: Dancer in the Dark.
Incredibly tragic, but also beautiful.
She’s been a recorded singer since she was 11 or something. Her very first album (before Debute) is quite horrible. By the time Post arrives she’s at the TOP of her craft. Then, in Homogenic, she crushes the entire industry. Totally reinventing what vocalists “should be doing” as artists.
My favorite thing about Bjork is her cadence and emotional range while staying SPOT ON in key. That’s balls hard. It’s SO hard to pull that off. But, she makes seem like anyone could do it.
The bleep-bloopies are most likely a triangle-wave coming from your generic workstation keyboard of the time. Korg or Yamaha is my guess. It’s the star of the show.
Talking Heads is the band your searching for.
The Sugar Cubes are fantastic though!
@@jazw4649 yeah, some of her best work was with Sugar Cubes.
Yaas. I've probably said this before here 😃🍺
the song or band you meant is the talking heads
Yeah, Once in a Life Time.

I would love to see you react to one of Bjork's biggest influences, Kate Bush. She also composes, produces and writes all her music. Also one to sing in very odd time signatures with unconventional key changes too.
Especially Wuthering Heights or something more jarring like Houdini
Mmmm... spreadsheets!
ixi! I had your baby and you owe me child support!
I'll send you half of the $11 I made - don't go spending that on yourself now, ya hear?

Yeah, if you could also do "Venus as a Boy" and "Possibly Maybe" as well, that'd be great. Also, going to need you to come in on Saturday. 🙃
Also need your personal covers and a tps report on my desk by Monday. OK? Thanks
Yes sir. that performance of venus as a boy is the best.
I love both of those songs
Jules is one of the only people to pronounce her name correctly, he must have asked someone. The lyric is also about sleep state dream symbols. They don't actually live on a mountain, it's part of the dream. The objects are symbolic thought forms, it's very Jungian
The guy on the snare drum is way better a musician than I could ever be, but the way he is holding those brushes with his index fingers out is so awkward looking.
