I have 2008 es350 w/113,000miles Other than a sticky but uncracked dash, there's not one thing wrong with it. Everything works flawlessly. What a great car!!
I always laugh when people give the same ole tired advice "Always buy a 3 year old used car. Only stupid fools buy a new car.". They don't even understand that dealers are more likely to discount new cars, that new cars have manufacturer rebates, that having a warranty can save you several thousand dollars if something goes wrong, that new cars are safer etc.
Yea it does seem dealers discount new cars more often I've noticed they are so stingy when it comes to used cars very frustrating because if it's a car they got on trade, you know they paid 5k less than whatever they listed the car for on average but they never budge on used from my experience
In the past (before COVID)used cars depreciated faster now you’re better off with new most of the time. Interest rates on new cars are a lot lower too.
@@Mr99Burns yes before COVID, buying a 3 year old used car made some sense since they were significantly cheaper but for the past 4 years, 3 year old used economy cars are so close in price to a new car that buying new is a no brainer!
Cars safety is refreshed maybe every decade, so a 3 to 5 year old car mostly uses the same technology as a new. Also remember that the video shows comparison of a quiet lexus to loud toyota (though toyota says they finally solved the loud A pillars and side windows for 2025 model, I am not so sure - I need to test). If you compare camry to camry or ES to ES - the result will be much better. But - you always need to verify your priorities and just calculate! For me a 5 year old is a sweet spot. I do not check lease or finance because I pay cash. 5 year old - almost 50% of new car price saved (so I could buy more nvidia stocks for the rest). And this is why I have loud 2019 Camry Hybrid ;) Up to 120km/h (75 mph) it is quiet, but then at highway cruising speeds (means 140km/h or 87mph in Poland) it is so much louder than BMW. If I jump from BMW to Camry I check if windows are closed. And Mazda? I wanted to buy CX-5 or 6, but after testing all I have to say. - this is ridiculously loud for a modern car - almost like a Mitsubishi Lancer (which I had and was nice practical and cheap car, but the loudest I ever had - I even had headaches after highway cruising).
In 2021 instead of a new Toyota I got a CPO 18 GS350 F Sport because I wanted something as reliable but a bit more sporty and luxurious. So I can really relate to this video very informative indeed. Keep up the great work that you do 🙌
Kevin, thanks for this informative video… I appreciate the work you put into the calculations. Currently drive a 2018 CX-5 (no problems) and am looking for a 2025 Camry… take care!
Kevin, you bring up a really good point on a identical lexus cars (same year, miles, condition) can drive differently. After watching many of your ES350 (2019+) stellar reviews , i test drove a used 2022 ES 350, with 19,000 miles. And it drove worst than my 2018 Accord 2.0t. It had wind noise , vibrations in cabin at 60 mph ... This was my first time driving this generation, but it was very disappointing. But now that you say identical ES 350 can drive differently , i will give another es 350 a try.
Yea my friend def try and test drive another preferably a higher trim like the Luxury or UL but it's crazy right just how poorly some of these Lexus cars can feel I'm not surprised you had this experience, I drove multiple LS flagships that had crazy levels of wind noise as well and they were brand new! Nobody would believe us if we told them our experiences people just need to test drive these vehicles for themselves to really know.
The current gen ES is made in America, and next gen will be back in Japan, not sure if that’ll improve the build consistency. I doubt they’ll be building the same amount as sedan market isn’t as it once was.
Great video! With all the factors you mentioned, it does make sense to just buy a brand new discounted 2025 Toyota Camry. TSS 3.0 and the 2 years of free maintenance is nice too! Of course the peace of mind that comes with the warranty is priceless! Also saving some money on fuel economy too since new Camry is a hybrid!
I actually didn't even know the Camry came with 2 years of free maintenance 😅 but even regardless of that I do think this Camry was one of the worst examples I could have used to represent a new car lot of other competing vehicles which could be had for way less but with Toyota you def know what you're getting and as you mentioned the Hybrid drivetrain is a plus!
I love what you do and have gleaned great info and different perspectives. When it comes to money, unless somebody owes it to me, it is their business. With that said, if you do not have the cash, it is defined as you can't afford and don't deserve it somehow. I only know that if that were true, I would have spent a lot more time on foot and living in rentals.
Your message was extremely strong at the end. The truth isn't always what people want to hear, but those with open eaes fan appreciate it. To be honest I barely drive these days are cars are unfortunately becoming less of my life but I appreciate you speaking the truth and not worried about the manufacturers or being cancelled. Like you say everyone else is worried about upsetting their viewers or manufacturers going against the grain.
Always depends on where you are in life, even those who are truly at a financial level to get a new car may not want to pay the price so I would say the ES350 just cause they’re amazing and you’ll save money
I like that rant at the end. I am big on being conservative when it comes to finance, but I do agree it's annoying when people keep regurgitating supposed rule of thumbs. Everybody is different and not everyone is bad with money. People just overvalue money too much.
Also curious where you'd put the Lexus ES300h in the mix here... slower than ES350 but supposed to be quite nice and quiet. Luxury trims also have acoustic glass. BTW Edmunds also have a 5yr true cost to own tool that will take into account fuel, depreciation, insurance, maintenance/repairs. New vehicles also kinda hammer you with deliver fee + doc fee which can easily be $1800-$2000. Another consideration is that some states tax annually based on vehicle price. Here in VA we get destroyed in taxes on any vehicle worth > $25k so there's more incentive for used. (maybe $400 more tax per year for new)
I’m going to check out that Edmunds calc now! Thank you for sharing this! Regardless of being a hybrid you just have to test drive it for yourself like you said upper trims are more refined the next gen ES hybrid I checked out was amazing tho one of my go to new cars never tried the hybrid of this gen
@@neilquinn yea the other problem I’m noticing with the Edmund’s calc is it doesn’t seem super accurate kind of feels like arbitrary numbers But going back to some of the other points you made on new car purchases, yes that destination fee blows on new cars some manufacturers are out of pocket when it comes to that, this Camry was probably the worst new car I could have used for this example, other new cars can be had for much greater discounts that can help to eat those additional costs. Regarding taxes in places like NC we only get charged 3% during the sale but we are hit with an annual tax that never ends, just sucks across board no matter where you live 😅
Very nice research! Thank you! I was actually considering new Camry (2025) vs used Lexus ES350. Was going through the numbers myself. End up going for ES 350 2017 with 129k km on it for half of the price of a Camry SE AWD from private sale from old gentleman. Cash. No Tax. Canada, AB. Very happy with the decision made and this video only reinforced this feeling. Also, I liked the ride in Lexus more over the new Camry hands down. V6 just feels right. I love the ES 350, it’s a perfect addition to my practical Mazda cx-5 2016.5 GT, which became my wife’s car. This video hit all the stings for me!😅
¡Can you do a similar video but comparing brand new top end camry and brand new base lexus es??? Maybe the real price difference after all incentives applied.
3.99 is a high rate? I wouldn't loan money to myself at that rate. I'm sure if I told you my first APR on my first 27k dollar house was 8.1 percent and a good rate. Of course, that was when we were giving the Panama Canal away, but I digress. Great review.
Those 3 choices are all winners. Mazda got to be 2024 though w/o that cylinder deactivation crap that they love so much. I am planning on keeping my 2010 ES350 and my 2015 RX350 at least 10 more years getting my moneys worth.
