She must have been an amazing mom, she does so much for us. Imagine what she did for her children growing up. Such a lovely soul she has. She reminds me of my mom when she was alive. Watching Maangchi gives me comfort, I'm in my early 20's but I still miss my mom so much. Love the videos, keep them coming! :)

I love that Maangchi took this a step further by bringing along some fans, as well as taking the time to stop and explain what to look for when buying ingredients and how they’re important to Korean cuisine. I’ve been following Maangchi since the early days and she always puts in 100% effort. Her shining spirit never seems to waiver and can be found in every video, short, and blog post.
My grandfather used to eat raw potatoes with salt. I hope a Korean sweet potato is much better raw than a Yukon lol.

I lived in Seoul 40 years ago and didn't appreciate Korean food. It was the garlic. My mother does not like garlic so we never used it. Over the years I fell in love with garlic and now I love Korean food. I found your channel and tried making Kimchi. I was hooked. Thank you.

I am IN LOVE with this series!!!! Our Korean market is much much smaller, but this helps a lot because while a lot of the items will have an English translation, some don't so you're kinda taking a guess based on what is around it.

To the girl who loves hot and spicy, I guessed red pepper flakes too (oops). I am making kimchi today. Yesterday I bought 60 lbs. of some of the most beautiful Napa Cabbage. If Maangchi looked in my refrigerator right now her heart would beat so fast I'd have to call a doctor. I think that is an excellent supermarket! It's so big, bright and clean. I can't wait for part 2. Thank you Maangchi. Especially for the part about short grain rice. I've been using long grain all this time. Now it's time to chop cabbages!

Raw sweet potato is really yummy in salads! I once made a raw sweet potato and golden beet salad that was delicious! It was equal parts beet and sweet potato(I grated them cause I don't have a vegetable spiralizer) with thin sliced green onions or chives and toasted pumpkin seeds(no shell) then dressed with lots of fresh lime juice and a garlic lime vinaigrette dressing I found at the store.

I wish we had a Korean grocery store here in Mobile. We only have an Asian grocery store which is small but great. They have a good selection of ingredients from Korea, Japan, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines. But I was happy to find out that H Mart ships so I ordered a few things from them last month. :D
Ebony Arnold you can order ingredients online! Amazon sells all kinds of stuff, not sure about fresh produce but if you can get your hands on some planters and seeds you can grow a lot of veggies! I grow my store bought green onions that are now pretty thick at the base.

Within driving distance we have 3 major Asian supermarkets (Korean, Japanese, and Vietnamese based) plus lots of smaller store options. Knowing some basics before you go is so nice!

Wow!! The prices are so much cheaper than an American market and the produce looks better than ours as well!! I have to go with my daughter - we LOVE 💘Korean food and Asian food sooooo much!!!! My daughter is a chef and she cooks me lots of delicious Asian cuisine and lately it's been Korean😊💕

My moms best friend is half korean and when I was 13 she gave me kimchi that her friend made and it started a whole new life for me. Her friend was very impressed when she met me and took me to an Asian grocery store and helped me pick out good staple ingredients to use. This helps more too to learn more about my favorite cuisine ❤
I recognize most of the labels from food shopping in Korea. I never managed to find enough time to learn to read Hangul, but I remember the look of the writing on the packaging.

That's funny my grandmother used to give is raw sweet potato too.
I wish I lived closer to such a nice, big Korean grocery store. It's a 2 hour drive to get to an Asian market, and five hour drive to H-Mart. When I visited H-Mart, they had Korean vegetable seeds. I bought them and now grow them. Korean radish is my favorite! Thank you for discussing shelf life and quality. It helps to know when you can't buy things as often as you want.

I feel like crying now after seeing this. Selection of fresh Korean produce in Europe is so, so tiny compared to the shop Maangchi is walkign us through. We just have "Asian" food stores over here, all mixed and selection rather slim, which is uderstandable, market segment is so small compared to the US. But still.... and the prices.... tripple what you see in this video and get the idea. I am so jealous.
