After all the smack I talked about Color Analysis, I am finally giving it a go with Open Wardrobe's new color analysis service! It's definitely recommended as a guide vs strict rules, but I really wanted to play around with what colors do and don't suit me and also ways to style them (as recommended in the app)!

This has me now curious about doing an in person color analysis 😏
yesss, please, we'd love to see it! and I think the results would be different 🙈
Do it virtually with carol brailey! She is the best ❤
I would love to see a video where you do an in person color analysis!
Can really recommend Colour Analysis Studio
They have a great RUclips channel were they show how they do a in person and a online analysis. Love them and they really know what they’re doing 🙌🏼
@@AmandaNiklasson97 the only problem is they are located in Australia and Alexa is in the US 🙃
hey, don’t worry too much about your black shoes! they don’t go near your face so you can get away with it! usually it is makeup, jewelry and tops that matter
Usually I like color analysis, but in your case I actually think you look good in all colors! Maybe because your personality is so bright and sunshiney and your style is so good, all colors really seem to work.
Its bc shes a spring and they look good in basically all colours! Seems unfair right lol
Technically, anyone can pull off all colors to a certain degree if they have suitable makeup on. This is why people do color analysis barefaced.
@@babypearl id have to pack on so much makeup to pull of neons or oranges as a winter they make me look grey and green
@@Daniella121 Actually the recommendations she received are associated with summers seasons palettes. Springs season palettes have brighter colours.
@@pouchika5672 light spring is mostly pastels and has a lot of crossover colours with summer, people with warm undertones can pull off cool colours better than cool undertones can pull off warm colours.
Every time you wear that emerald green velvet top, I think "this is her colour", it suits you so well!
i have the exact same thought, it’s perfect and makes her glow!
Yeah I think she’s a spring
I actually way prefer your usual color combination and color palette ! I would trust your instinct more than this app lol 😊
totally! I feel like she looks so good in bright reds like with the hair accessory at the beginning of the video. these colors look good, sure, but they're kind of sad compared to her normal style.
When the results came back soft my jaw DROPPED. You’re such a spring.
LITERALLY!
That's what I thought too!
Nope. I always thought she was a summer and looked best in cool colors.
I think Alexa is definitely a Spring!!
Spring
The red turtleneck and jeans outfit is chefs kiss
I agree, my jaw dropped when I saw it!
This sage green and gray outfit looks perfect😍
I actually did notice your eyes standing out for this entire video! I didn't think so beforehand, because your current wardrobe looks so good on you but with the brown mascara and muted colours you did really fresh and pretty
13:50 this outfit omg… 🤩 i’m obsessed with figuring out which time period people suit, and you are 100% a 70s girly imo! that 70s silhouette looks impeccable on you!
at first i completely disagreed with the analysis but after seeing the side by side comparisons- wow! i really think they did type you correctly.
I agree w the analysis--that you shouldn't wear true black (next to your face). You actually have black t-shirts that look good on you, but in reality they are faded black, i.e. charcoal. The colors of shoes and even pants is not as important as the colors you wear next to your face. So having a lot of black shoes is not an issue at all.
whoa the brown mascara suits you soo well - esp w ur green eyes!
I think you are a Spring. You look good in most things, which is an important clue as springs are known as the chameleons of the color analysis world. We can pull off most colors, we just look paler in soft/muted colors. You can test this yourself. Springs look terrible in dusty blue/ mauve, and can pull off most things, but shine in bright , light, and warm colors.
I think she looks much better in dusty blue than in bright and warm colors.
i think maybe a bright or true spring!!
I also thought she leaned more towards Spring, maybe somewhere on the edge with either Winter or Summer: I think some cooler bright, saturated colours look really good on Alexa, which might be because of the bleached hair. Also, I think she looks great in pastels which are saturated colors that are lightened (as in mixed with white) as to muted colours which are deluted, toned down (as in mixed with grey). When she pulls out an item with deep or muted autumn colours they're nice but it doesn't pop. Some contrast and/or brightness work better for her in my opinion.
Anyway these are my two cents as someone who been to art school and looks at colours a lot and is a self-proclaimed deep-winter/autumn : ]
@@dormant_informant I think the bleached hair is throwing people off to say spring. Her natural hair is ash blonde or ash light brown (cool). What does it for me is the comparison -- the muted colors make her face look better. Bright colors call attention to the color and make her face look washed out.
I also thought she was a light spring because I‘m a light summer and look just like her - just in a slightly cooler shade. That would also explain why she did still look good in those softer light colors.
That green cardigan with the grey trousers looks really good on you! I think you really nailed the "softness" aspect with that outfit, and it makes you look put together and cohesive.
I was waiting for this vid for so long!! But Im shocked?? I really thought you were a warm spring. You look amazing in bright colors.
Yes, I had previously thought she was a spring, too. But the colors in this video did look pretty harmonious. I'm confused!
right? the bright red top made her look radiant, while the purple one was just okay...
She is a spring. The color recommendations all described colors that a spring would wear. The app just doesn't use the "seasonal" labels and instead analyzes "depth, undertone, and clarity". Similar results.
Naw these are soft summer colors. Spring colors are more vibrant and have more yellow in them. The analysis is pegging her as neutral or cool toned which I would have to agree as she is more muted pinky and not yellowy. Her natural grow out is also a light ashy brown as opposed to golden.
@@annaschutze8871 Nope. Recommend ivory and brown over white and black. Those are for warm tones. Also check her out in that tomato red top.
I believe in colour analysis and let me tell you, no app is currently good enough to be trustworthy! I would never say you are soft :) So, I recommend getting it done professionally!
True! I second this.
Only 11 seconds in, but I love ur tshirt hehe❤️❤️❤️
😱 Nooo it makes me physically sick
Wow! Is it just me or did you just level up!? Those colors are so complementary on you and your fits just became more polished.
You are shining bright! 🌞🫶
Agree.
funnily enough, with your first outfit i immediately noticed your eyes in a different way, and i think it was the brown mascara!! love these fits ❤
In person is the best way to do it. It was invented in Germany. It’s called “house of colour”. And this is the original legit color analysis. It was on the of the best things I’ve ever done. I am a spring!
Really? Germans invented something with colours? 😂
That green velvet top is stunning on you 😍
You should get a professional color analysis, then compare the results to Open Wardrobe’s.
Yes!
I absolutely love the charcoal Harley tee and plaid skirt outfit! The colors look great on you and the style is very effortlessly cool. This was a great experiment to try different combinations from your closet.
That pattern skirt goes with EVERYTHING 🎉
i think you should compare it to an in person color analysis! im not thinking that the app is picking up on some of your undertones as fully as someone in person may
Girrrlll... While I do think that we should wear whatever color we like, I'm IMPRESSED on how WONDERFUL you look with those colors in all of these outfits... ALL of them ❤😍
I don't know, it just hits different, you shine, you look comfortable, wow...❤
I don’t think any apps or sending photos anywhere will truly give you good results regarding colour analysis. If you’re not a spring I don’t know who is, no way you are soft! I might buy cool but I think warm, light colours bring you alive and you look so good in them.
I’m a soft summer and I can easily tell because warm and bright colours make me look so gray lol.
I would LOVE to see what your results are for in person colour analysis.
The softer colour pallete really suits you a lot. It's like I could visibly "see" your personality when you wore the soft colours x
I used to own that exact velvet top! Wasn’t expecting to see it again. That oddly made my day haha
I don’t think this app works lol you’re definitely giving Spring
I love the dress blazer combo!
I think everyone should have their colours done. It's fabulous for everyone's self-esteem to know what colours compliment you.😊
These outfits are cute, but I like your usual style much more! I studied art and colour theory, and tried some colour analysis apps. I still think it’s mostly bogus. They have some underlying theory to it, but it’s too generalised and doesn’t apply to a lot of people. Black and white can look good on everyone. Makeup and hair colour does absolutely affect what looks better. But mostly we should wear what we like and experiment and not be so prescriptive about it.
With the off white it draws the eye more to your face and the cool tone white it draws the eye to the shirt really interesting
You’ve previously mentioned anxiety related to sweating… as a sweaty gal myself, how do you feel about wearing more colors vs just black/white? I wear a lot of black/white to hide sweat and I’m scared about colors showing sweat. Does that impact your go-to outfits or not so much? I’d love a video on how to dress for sweat!!!
I’m a fellow sweaty girl and I love wearing colors. What I’ve always done is stay away from sleeves and only wear tank tops, tube tops or spaghetti strap style tops. It helps that my shoulders look a bit too broad in sleeves anyways
Same here. Strong deodorants with 24/48h dry function saved me.
I'm a soft summer and I'm a goth LOL. I wouldn't take it too seriously. Just wear what makes you happy!
Oh. The turtleneck with the 70s style Levis looked SO GOOD! And that green velvet top on you was gorgeous.
everything looks great on you, all the outfits you tried here, especially with the added attention to color detail
I would definitely try taking a pic in the sunlight and see if it gives you different results. I'm dubious on the usefulness of color analysis in general so maybe I'm biased, but I really feel like it did you dirty here lol. You look gorgeous in everything, and I'm happy if it gives you some more style ideas, but you look so good in your bright reds and deep blacks! Maybe I just feel like those colors suit your personality better lol. Great video!
Omggg you look amazing in all the fits!!!
I have been waiting for this video! Welcome to the summer club lol I find colour analysis so helpful and interesting and it made me switch to brown eye liner and mascara and it was such a good move for me!
I hope that more people start making the switch away from black with those, so that the companies will all start offering more than black.
red looks amazing on you ❤ also bright colors 💁🏻♀️
Thank you for a great video ❤️Not that I think the offered colors look bad on you, but I’m kind of sure that you are 100% spring. Light, clear, warm colors look amazing on you, making your eye pop and bringing the gold from your hair. Every time I watch your videos I think of that. Even the Strawberry t-shirt (white with bright colors) and the red scrunchie make you look radiant!
I just think this is a clear example of how one still picture is not enough to determine someone’s color season.
Also, wanted to mention that after many years of learning about the color analysis, I came to a realization that it doesn’t really matter so much, as it all depends on how we style our clothes and of course the make up.
I’m so glad you did this!! How fun!
I loved all of the outfits and color combos ❤
16:25 100% the cool white makes you look more ashen vs the warm white
The green cardigan outfit is on point !
Ooh I love color analysis content! It definitely can open your eyes to more possibilities and combinations, which I love. I like what you said about choosing items/colors depending on what impact you wanna go for, because that's exactly the point imo. Classic color analysis is about achieving some sort of harmony/balance, but if you like to go for something more edgy for example, you can use the same information to make different choices, like going for a color that's specifically not in your season/colortype.
And I would recommend to go for an in person analysis if you truly want to know, in person is usually a lot more reliable then virtual. Also about your shoes, like you already said in the video, the most important things are the pieces around and close to your face, they have the most impact, so you can absolutely still wear your black shoes.
These all look so good! Honestly my favorite is the first dress with blazer look
The red top is so much better on you than the muted purple one, and the black t shirt too
I disagree. Look at her face.
I also disagree; in the muted purple top her eyes and lips and cheeks have much more color imo
This was such a fun video to watch! The outfits all looked great, but that green cardigan outfit was 🔥!! The faded black charcoal t shirt also looked amazing on you! I love that you did the contrasts at the end, it was so interesting to see the differences between the colors, especially the types of white!
I was literally hoping for a color analysis video and here it is. Woot!
Just remember to wear what makes you happy. I had my colours done 40 years ago and I’m a “summer”. I always wore colours from that palette and decorate my home around these colours too. I do however love wearing black and it’s not one that I should wear on the top (I do anyway). 🇨🇦
great video! i'm glad your attitude about it was that it can help you appreciate some of your clothes more, not make you stop wearing clothes you actually like. cus really, who cares if it's "flattering" lol, i feel like we shouldn't just be trying to make ourselves flattering. but everything you tried on does look super great on you!!
Softer looks better on you than super harsh or intense colors. But idk if youre like MUTED muted. Id have said youre a spring
Obsessed with the plaid skirt/Harley shirt fit
Loved this video! Saved to favorites! That makeup so so flattering on you! And great outfits, excited to see more outfits without so much black!
I did this for a column I write last year. I applied it for two months and, while I see its perks, it just isn’t worth it for me to use. The issue was I enjoy bright, saturated colors and my season (Dark Autumn) weren’t exactly what makes me happy or even my style. Also, depending on the actual season you are in the year, it could be more difficult to find certain colors in store. The one thing I will say is that it’s meant as a guide and a good analyst will tell you that as long as a color isn’t close to your face, it doesn’t matter if you use it for bottoms or shoes.
love the first outfit!
Holy cow these fits are hitting!!!
One of my fave color combos is navy blue and rust. I’ve gravitated toward navy blue as I got older as an alternative to black. I also love charcoal gray. When I wear black, I feel so washed out. A classic black turtleneck is always in style and always complimentary though IMO.
I loooovveeed the outfit with the green jacket and grey pants. Everything fit you nicely and gave a lovely hourglass shape.
you're so pretty i love your eyes!
I definitely can see the differences. You just POP!!!
I can’t express how well I think this test helped you so much!!!!!
This was so helpful I now have the app ❤can’t wait for your next video 😊
Wonderful video. I really enjoyed this 😊
i've been so curious about the colour analysis service on openwardrobe, cool to see that it's quite in depth and gave you lots of suggestions :) it was fun to see side by side comparisons of the colours, i do think soft colours suit you a lot especially the lighter grey compared to black! i noticed it on myself too but still love wearing black, usually just further away from my face like square necklines or unbuttoned cardigans💕
I'm passionate about color analysis, so i personally can tell when people aren't in their colors. However, the fun part of fashion is wearing whatever we want! I constantly dress outside my season - being a soft autumn who loves black, white, and red.
Loved the green shirt and gray slacks
awesome vid! i rlly love the navy plaid skirt + off-white tee + brown jacket look! 🫶🏻 ive always wanted to try a color analysis, i def think u look good in ligit every color tho!
I loved all of the outfits you put together and they all still felt very you! I think this is just another fun tool in your styling toolbox :)
I liked the milwaukee shirt but how you ended up styling that great plaid skirt was probably one of my favorite looks!!
Fun video, please do more like these :) I totally prefer the off-white, purple and grey top on you!
Love the video already
Good morning Alexa happy Wednesday morning and I loved your vlogs and you are amazing
Wow, I am so in love with all of these looks. Totally my style!
BTW Alexa, those jeans look incredible on you. Make your legs look soooo long, the fit is perfect!
If anyone would like extra help figuring out their style/ wardrobe I also recommend Kiana Bonollo's video where she made her sewing mood board for 2023. She goes over finding fabrics you like the feel of as well as color palettes and silhouettes and while its intended for sewing I've been using for all aspects of my wardrobe and even started making my own style mood board and it has mad my hobbies (sewing, embroidery, crochet) and my clothes shopping so much easier to manage and so much less overwhelming.
The first outfit is sooo cute
With that green cardi and grey pant, brown show combo I think it would pull together with a dark or black headband just because of the shoe base so it isn't so light up top with no head framing but rather pulled together and finished! Love it and very inspired 💗
Although the black buttons on the added jacket also have same effect! Also the next look those blue jeans would look fab with a matching purple plum embroidery or seam at the base or down length to the high neck gorgeous plummy coloured top!
the outfits are fire🔥🔥🔥 great harmonious color combinations! but I also think that you're spring. I'm usually good at telling which colors suit a person. It would be very interesting to see if you decide to go get your colors officially tested!🌟
I LOVE Open Wardrobe I wish more people were on it
Going against your Color Season actually makes you look edgy, so cool 😎
Yeah I definitely see u as a summer which is basically what the service said! You should definitely do an in person color analysis to confirm and film it!
I agree. Soft summer. I am the same and have the same coloring as Alexa. The softer cool colors make her look great, and attention goes to her face, not the clothes.
The approach you took with this was very smart. You’ve taken the suggestions you like, implemented them in a way that stays true to you, and didn’t let anything dictate your style. 👍👍😊 I have to say that brown mascara really does look so nice on you! It matches your eyebrows perfectly and makes it look like your lashes are naturally that long! 😻 Also, for ages I have been meaning to comment and say that I happened to see the footwear advertisement you were in! I actually saw it here on RUclips as an ad during someone else’s video! (I was like, HEY! It’s Alexa!!😄) It had to have been at least a month ago by now (before you made a quick mention of it in a past video!), but I kept forgetting to comment about it. Just wanted to say congrats on the opportunity, and I think you did an amazing job with it!!! 🤗👏
the strawberry baby shirtttt
I genuinely think you look good in everything and I also think the brighter contrasting colors make you pop way more! I’ve always thought that too and then seeing it side by side I preferred the bright white, red, and black to the softer colors. Your features looked more defined and bolder and you carry them so well. 😍😍 Also I’ve heard it’s really important to go to someone in person to do the comparison of colors IRL because the photo apps can skew things and not come out as accurately. TLDR: you look amazing in everything but the brighter colors you’ve always gravitated towards make you POP 🔥
I though this was cool in the way it inspired you to try new things!! Other than that i love your personal style. (: everyone should shine in what makes them glimmer! ** love you and your vids thanks alexa**❤
outfit number 3 is my favorite outfit you've ever styled!!
They listed "others notice your clothes before they see your face" as a negative, and I don't really think it's a bad thing. It's more like what you're ainimg for with your look. If you want to put an empahsis on your outfit, a contrasting look might make people focus on that more. If you want your features to be the main focus, then softer and more harmonious colors might be better.
I generally get the point of color analysis, but I've alwasy been super against the whole "do this, not that" mentality that goes with it. Different colors do have different effects on the way you look, but I don't necessarily think one is better than the other for all people. It all depends on what you're trying to convey with your image. For example, looking pale might be a big no for some people, but others would actually want to acheive a paler look. So the first group would go for tones that make them look less pale, and the second- for ones that do emphasize paleness. Or as I said earlier, maybe you DO want the main focus point to be your outfit instead of your facial features.
And then there's the whole debate around personal preference. For me, I've always prefered to wear colors that FEEL like me and match my personal vibe, rather than ones that just flatter my outside appearance. I see fashion as a reflection of your inner self. Something that's uniquely yours you're showing to the world. Now someone else might think of it more as a tool to accentuate the features they have. And that's totally valid, I think that's the group that would benefit the most from these color analysis type of services. It just comes down to what your personal wants and needs are. I do wish, however, that the whole thing was done in a less judgemental way, and more in a "this color has this effect, that color has that effect, feel free to choose what works for you" type of way.
Beepworld has a great video on this topic that I highly recommend.
I WAS WAITING FOR THIS VIDEO FOR 4 YEARS OF ME WATCHING YOU 🩷
You look like a Clear Spring 🌸
the straw baby t !!
Grey looks extremely good on blonds. You girls pop in it!
You made some cool pairings here, non-obvious outfits.
I liked the Harley tee with the outfit very 90’s
It looks like you have a new wardrobe!
I feel like incorporating more muted/in-between tones in your wardrobe (and moving away from overdoing white and black) is going to have an impact on how you put together outfits and what you pair together! I am soooo excited to see what you create going forward AND I support the search for more warm toned shoes :)
I've done this twice with this app and both times came back clear. In color analysis that would put me as a Winter or Spring. I was draped in person, twice, by HOC and TCI and was draped a True Autumn both times. Open Wardrobe told me muted, earthy tones were not my best tones. Turns out they were way off!
You can honestly pull off everything! If I had to guess I would've said you're a light spring. Even though I agree with the app that you're more muted than bright, I think warmer tones suit you better than cooler ones and light suits you better than dark
Several items came to mind watching - 1 - I hope you had fun and enjoy the information! 2 - I love color analysis for informing purchases bc there are so many things we are tempted to buy, this is one way for me to have excuses not to shop 3 - there are great stylists talking about decolonizing the ideas of ‘flattering’ and sometimes wearing ‘not your colors’ is The Look and knowing the rules can help one intentionally break them. I can’t wait to see what you do next! Also, the colors only matter around your face so your black shoes are safe ;)
I would love to see you compare this to a professional in person analysis!
