    Alexa!! I know that the thrift with me's get a lot of views but I want you to know you shouldn't feel pressured to do them if you already feel happy with the current state of your wardrobe!! If for the rest of the year you did styling videos based on pieces you already own (or maybe you can temporarily swap pieces with a friend??) I would still watch every one of them. Like, the 24 outfits for 2024 video is so amazing!! Love you!!

      I appreciate it and appreciate you ❤ I looooove making thrifting videos, but maybe want to dabble in either not buying anything in them or only allowing myself to thrift like 3 things a month idk I am definitely planning on experimenting with the types of videos I do this year!

    on the topic of jean styles, i used to wear exclusively high rise jeans. when y2k started coming back into fashion i explored mid-rise jeans and realized that part of the reason i didn't like them at first was because all of my tops were meant to be worn with high rise pants, like my crop tops would look way too cropped if i wore them with mid-rise jeans. once i started collected more tops in my wardrobe that hit me below the waist i think it made my mid-rise jeans look more flattering. i think my point here is that jean style can depend on what the rest of your wardrobe looks like. i do agree that ultimately it's a personal choice though because i've tried low-rise jeans multiple times and i just don't think they work on my body type lol

    • @AlexJosephDesigns
      @AlexJosephDesigns 4 месяца назад +9

      I refuse to wear a low rise pant, but I’ve also found myself gravitating towards a more mid rise. I love a baggy pant and I personally think they look better when sitting lower on the waist. All this to say, I 100% agree that pant rise preferences should be based on personal style than current “trends”

    • @csjkscs
      @csjkscs 4 месяца назад +4

      I absolutely agree. I think low rise are made for a long lean woman with a little bit of a booty (although if you aren’t that you can wear the shit out of them too)! I could rock them in my 20’s but 5 kids ended my low rise days for good. However, because I am tall with a short torso, mid rise are the most flattering now and the most comfortable. High rise just accentuate my tummy when I sit down.

    • @teresacarle294
      @teresacarle294 4 месяца назад +5

      🤔Think a higher mid-rise is BEST for my shape⏳️. Two low, I always end up continually tugging up⬆️ on them in order to feel like my generous hips are completely covered😂.
      High-rise creates other issues. Once owned these two high-waisted pleated trousers that perfectly followed my curvy shape & hung beautifully straight. The fit was truly incredible〰️as if 🪡tailor made precisely for form 👩‍🍳s‐💋. No waist cinching required.
      EXCEPT even w/a great bra that properly ⬆️lifted the girls up, it looked like they practically rested on my 🔘🔘waistline😳. Trust me, not a good look for anyone.
      Do the "math" to figure out your proper proportions. It's not just breast, waist, & hips that count. My torso's only a couple of inches shorter than my legs. (Not quite half & half). One palm🤚 length from breast to waist makes me short-waisted.
      Only one palm🤚 actually fits between the bottom of my rib cage & top of my hip. (My belly button hits my middle finger.) That makes space for only thin or midi belts at best. Wide belts or waistlines always curl up or fold in on themselves🥺.
      💚Bridget from Cali☘️

    Tip! If you do find a cardigan or something else you really love but don’t like the buttons on I can’t recommend enough learning how to sew buttons, it’s very easy and you can replace them with ones you really like and completely change the look of the piece, it obviously takes a bit of work and you have to also buy buttons but it can be worth it

Figuring out fabrics has become a huge game changer for my sustainable wardrobe but i wish it had been something i was taught in school! It isn’t a thing people just know!

    I'm gen Z and I honestly hate the whole generaltional war thing. Millenials are cool, millenial fashion is cool, I don't get why so many people from my generation are completely against them. Just let people live the way they want to.
    And on the topic of jeans, I'm absolutely a high rise girlie! I don't care if it's considered outdated or "not my generation's style" I hate low rise on myself, it doesn't work with my body type/height OR my personal style. I also still own and wear skinny jeans (not exclusively, I like other styles, too). I really like them on my body type, plus sometimes they just work better with a certain outfit.
    You're absolutely right, jeans shouldn't be a trend. Different cuts work for different body types. You should wear what you feel like works best for your body and fits your personal style the best. Shaming someone for wearing an "outdated" item is so stupid!

    My number on thing on my thrift list was a racing jacket but for the longest time I couldn’t find on under like $300. I found one on depop for $60 and I screamed. Like it’s perfect condition, and amazing. And it’s not like an obnoxious bright color or print, it’s like perfectly unique so I’ll actually wear it. I know seems kinda silly for something loud like a racing jacket but it makes sense in my head.
    Now my thrift list is a denim vest to wear with dresses to work when it starts to get warm in this yeehaw Texas weather.

      I think Savers/Value Village is profiting off of not having changing rooms anymore! Their “return” policy sucks. You can only exchange, they don’t give store credit, so you have to exchange for something the same day you return, and you have to return within 14 days.
      I know I’ve bought at least 5 pairs of jeans that I haven’t had time to return, so Value Village keeps my money. 😤

    Moschino did have a line that had my little pony in it (2018 ready to wear) and the thrift gods blessed me the day that I found the pink sweater from it (its wool, think someone had washed it in a washing machine D: )
    The design you found doesn't look like anything from that line or from what they sold on their "more accessible" store fronts (as far as I can recall) so I'm guessing its a knock off. I have seen designer brands use synthetic products (I know Selkie does) but yeah that looks like its a knock off.

    Can you pass on things that don't work out to a viewer? Maybe the aspects that don't work for you would suit them/would work for them and their body and preferences?

    Thank you so much for talking about about the "fails", it's more realistic, and even educational in a way since it highlights factors where you can go wrong. It's bound to happen that you end up with pieces that you're not happy with (ESPECIALLY if there's no changing rooms!) And I don't think that talking about the "fails" made the video less positive and cheerful in any way!

      😊Think Alexa's around the 5'6-7" range. One of my besties is 5'9". She tends to shop the ♂️Men's Section for her trousers👖. She'd look positively lovely in ankle cropped pants, but refuses. She still carries the stigma of flood waters 🌊.
      Although I get it. There was such negativity around hand-me-downs & thrifting when I was a kid. Only the poorest families did it. In those days, mismatches as well as pattern clashes looked hobo & desperate over artsy & deliberate.
      Still prefer new over used, but the reality is thrifted pieces are more affordable. In many cases, the quality is better for the price point too. Plus, in my life I've been gifted gently used vintage, designer, & modern garments that were way outside my own budgetary contraints. I truly treasure these particular pieces.

    That’s really sad that people shame others for their style of jeans.. I mean I hate skinny jeans now because I don’t like tight clothes anymore but high rise is definitely more comfortable for me

    General question, why did thrift stores in the US close their dressing rooms?

    • @shilohgoes5544
      @shilohgoes5544 4 месяца назад +1

      They used Covid as an excuse and probably realized how much of a pain the dressing rooms are- theft, people leaving messes and nasty stuff in the rooms. Also as someone else mentioned it’s more profitable because people buy things that don’t end up working for them but don’t end up returning because it’s a hassle.

      i think it had to do with covid, i guess since dressing rooms might cause some queues/crowding it would've been risky to have them open

      😉Personally, think a lot of stores used the pandemic😷 as an EXCUSE to close dressing rooms. The reality probably comes down to reduction of theft & labor. They no longer need a concentration of employees to clean & manage the crazy mess that disrespectful customers left behind.
      Although now they're MORE likely to find clothes literally jammed & stashed all over the store on random racks. Any where ppl found an opening or the place they stopped to try things on😂.
      Most folks are still too lazy to return items where they found them or to the Return Rack🤣. Even at boutiques & dept stores, I always preferred to make my own returns. I was most likely heading back to exchange garment for a different ⬇️⬆️ size anyway, so why not save employees a step?
      🧐The only TRUE difference in labor requirements is that TECHNICALLY there ought to be MORE staff now circulating 🔁 out on the Sales Floor to retrieve those abandoned garments. That activity will also keep 👁👁eyes out on customers, store activity, & give 'em proximity to straighten picked over racks as they travel close by.
      The sad reality is that thrift stores here are notoriously under staffed. Clothing racks look like WWIII by days end😮.
      🤓In some cases, removing the dressing rooms also allowed stores add'l floor space to stock more sales merchandise too👍.

      Its also likely dependent on location and which thrift store you're shopping at... all the dressing rooms at stores near me are open and I live on the East Coast
