Saudi Arabia is one of the richest countries in the world that also makes enormous profits off of the religious pilgrimage.
Saudis could have easily brought in fire trucks , water sprayers , and mass cooling stations - yet nothing like this appears to have been done to help the pilgrims. Why not ? Very sad..and totally preventable deaths.

I grew up there and actually they do all what you're saying (not really trucks but they install cold water sprayes). Hajj used to be even more deadly activity in the early 2000s and earlier because of the crowd crush. But they have learned from their mistakes and manage masses more effectively. Things like this still happen, Saudi is a really hot country and it is only getting hotter
