PS some of you may only think of the Bible as a story book... but no matter how you look at it .. there is an interesting story of a woman who ONLY had a tiny bit of meal and oil ... but when she used it wisely ... for SOME REASON it never ran out!

Thank you struggling with feeding four kids my mom her friend and pregnant self I appreciate this sooo much ty from my full heart
My mom raised us saying if u have flour and water u will always have something to eat tyfs this great recipe it brought bk so many memories blessings
Shoot, my Dad was, as Mom called him, a tight ass German. Water gravy was all I ever knew until I got married and moved out. I don't even remember him using anything but grease, flour, salt, pepper and water. Kinda takes me back.
Made me think of my mama, she always said , "make do"..
Thank you...
This is the gravy I grew up with. When you are poor country folk this is the go to gravy. Today my children love the water gravy and thats what they make for their families. ❤🩷
I grew up on water gravy/biscuits. We had milk/butter only when the cows or goats had babies. We never knew the difference. All of us where happy healthy children. One of our favorite meals was water cornbread, fatback and greens.
You saved me today
I have no milk in the house and you have definitely saved me
thank you thank you for this recipe
I used to make water biscuits and water gravy for my mom and I. It was after a few years that I found out how much she enjoyed it. She said she liked it much more than biscuits and gravy made with milk. Well, that was good cause we rarely could afford milk.
I was blessed to have a mom that raised children (my older siblings) during the Great Depression, she could make a delicious meal out of seemingly nothing.
Thanks for this video. There are a million b&g videos on the internet but I really wanted to know how to do with just a few ingredients.
Its always better with milk .. but its good to know .. we CAN get by with water if we need to!
"Itll stick to your ribs" ah man! Just that saying there! My uncle's mom made this for him when he was young and he happened to make some when I visited them. He said that phrase. And said that's what his mom used to say to him. And it does. Makes you feel super full. He also made, what he called, biscuit toast. Had to be day old, leftover biscuit. Cut in half, toasted. And dipped in, like a milk and budded broth. With loads of pepper. Think that's like oyster soup, not sure, but with biscuits. Idk was pretty filling when we didnt have much to eat. Also great for cold weather breakfast!
this is great, very good.
Great 👌☺️ Recipe 👍 very Southern 😊...
During some hard times, we sometimes made gravy using cornmeal to go with cornbread. Self rising flour can be used to make gravy.
Thank you 🙏
That's the only way My grandmother would make gravy. She said milk ruined gravy. Everybody would always ask for her secret & nobody knew it was just water..
I made this following your recipe and it was delicious.. 🥰🥰

Good video! I want to make potato soup using water gravy. I had some as a youngin to get over a sickness, worked well then but lost the recipe.Do you do soup?
This may be similar to what you remember .. let me know if you try it ( I just created it for you ! LOL ) Potato Soup
4 potatoes
1 onion
Carrots and any other veggies you may have on hand. Cubed to approx. 1”
3 Tbs. butter
4-5 Tbs. flour
3 c. milk (or 2 cups milk and one water)
1 c. chicken broth
salt and cracked black pepper to taste
Clean and boil (or steam) potatoes and vegetables just until tender.
While cooking veggies, start your flour and liquid roux
In a skillet melt half a stick of butter. Approx. ¼ cup.
Add approx. ¼ cup flour stirring until smooth and begins to turn to a smooth paste
Stir in 2 cups milk/broth/or water whisking continually to avoid lumps.
Turn heat down a bit and allow to thicken.
Add the rest of your liquid ingredients. And bring to almost boiling again.
By now your vegetables should be tender, Drain excess water off and add vegetables to cream soup base.
Season with salt and pepper to taste
Serve while hot
Sprinkle with parsley and thyme if you have any handy
I also tend to add a pat of butter or sour cream on the top

Great video 😊 delicious 👍!!! So glad you didn't use 🥛 milk, almost every video on RUclips saids to use Milk or a Milk Product, Which has become super expensive...We need our own 🐄 cow's , 😆!
Glad it worked for you .. SAVE your bacon grease . makes it so ..... yummy !!
you need goats .. much easier
I would use a wire whip.
Is self rising flour the same as all purpose flour?
Self rising flour has baking soda and powder pre added . but wil work in this ok.
Is it okay to use self rising flour? It's all I have ATM
I've used self-rising, it works as well.
Do you have to use butter?
Any fat will do, it can even be liquid or melted grease.
