Maggie Bear Livestock Guardian Dog
Maggie-Bear is my Granddaughters LGD "Livestock Guardian Dog" that lives with me on the ranch
Since there are no older LGD's here to train her, she lives a dual life of a puppy in the house.. and she goes out with me to get acquainted with all the livestock.
She goes right into all the pens with me and that includes all the poultry pens .. and never bothers them. She is trustworthy and "sound in mind and judgment"
She is basically weaning herself from the house, as she will usually stay outside of her own accord for hours if I let her. The yard is not "dog proof" but we sit in the middle of my 200 acres, so I don't worry as she gradually extends her boundaries.
She is 4 1/2 months old and ...

    Thank you for sharing. I cannot find a 14G 1/2" needle on Amazon anywhere. We tried the 18 gauge needle yesterday twice and nothing came out. Looked at the tip and it was yellow and clogged. I think she has Egg Yolk Peritonitis and the needle is too small and will keep getting clogged. Can you share the link where we can find the 14G 1/2" needle. Thank you.

    Hello there... It't me again.... I have a question..... I had to use your technique on a male goat tonight...... I used an 18 guage 1 1/2 inch needle. What came out was green liquid, and just very very few air bubbles. I tried repositioning the needle, and after really nothing... I took it out, and tried another spot (along the lines of what you showed in the video)... I got the same thing.... so I finally gave up. A little air came out and a little green liquid (assuming digesting grass... ).... Do you have a technique for finding the air.... or does this indicate that it's just a full rumen and not much air? His sides are distended.. I had previously given him olive oil, baking soda drench and an extra strength liquid antacid... but after an hour there was no improvement... so I went with the needle. I've had him up walking him, and massaging his sides.... Just curious regarding what I got from the needle and was unable to find air.

    Thank you for posting this video - very thankful! Should I be concerned the fluid keeps draining from the puncture site quite a bit and doesn't stop.. I've put pressure on the puncture site but that doesn't help.. Should it stop once the pressure is somewhat relieved internally? She was very bloated and I didn't want to drain too much and send her into shock

    I had two young chickens with severe ascites, but I was convinced they were egg bound or would eventually recover. The poor things were suffocating under all that pressure, and they died after quite a prolonged period. I feel horrible that I didn’t know why they were suffering, or how badly. Now, I’ll hopefully be able to save one in the future with this procedure.

    We've had our chicken to the vets twice to get her drained. They really "emptied" her each time so I'm guessing they weren't too worried about the shock issue. I came to RUclips looking for how I can do it myself and your tutorial was the first one I came across. I love the way you cause as little pain as possible, use a short needle, and leave it in until the job is finished. Thanks very much.

  • @alonacortes7502
    @alonacortes7502 10 месяцев назад

    I wanted to comment to let you know that this video is still being used to help save chickens. Last year, I was able to extend a hen's life for many happy months where she got to enjoy a beautiful, spunky retirement where she happily hung out with our dog (since she was too vulnerable around the other chickens because she was older and slower than before). She was talkative (a good sign that she wasn't in pain), and spoiled with first dibs on treats before everyone else. She didn't lay any eggs at this time, but she was around five years old and it was winter for much of the time, so that is to be expected. Now, sadly, another of my old girls is suffering from water belly. My suspicion is Merck's-caused liver tumors. I learned last time that if I apply a little lidocaine to the injection area, they don't jump as much, if at all (you have to give it a minute to soak in). So, this seems to decrease the pain of a huge needle going into their belly. I'm still struggling though to determine the right amount of fluid to draw off at at what rate. Anyway, I have watched this video several times any time I have to do this, and it is very helpful. Thank you for making this.

    Thankyou, this is so helpful. I also have a chick that I’ve separated and is 1/4 the size of the others with one broken and dead half leg going the wrong way…. But she’s strong and always has a full crop as she crawls to her food and water, so I’m trying to do everything I can to get her to help herself and I’ll keep her separate for now. She’s currently still under heat at two months old as she’s small and I want to give her all the help. Thankyou for this :) Mel from Scotland
