- For many years, the Dodge Ram was the also-ran in the full-size pickup truck race. And because of that, what is now known as just Ram has never been afraid to try new things, whether it’s big-rig style, unique suspension designs, innovative Ram Box storage, or delivering luxury car-like interiors, so what’s next? Well, let’s find out. #RAM #RAM1500 #RAMTrucks

I’m ok with them offering a 6 cylinder turbo but I’m not ok with them taking away a V8 option altogether
Agreed. That was a big mistake on the part of Stellantis.
They're practically forced to do this due to the mass push to lower emissions. Dodge/Stellantis made so many V8s in recent years, that they were not able to acquire enough emission credits, and ended up paying Tesla millions for theirs.
Agreed
Stellantis fail.. intentional possibly
Let’s see how they hold up after 100 and 200k.
5.7 HEMI for life
...... So for the next 5 years until the engine implodes?

Turbocharged engines are another added repair expense. Naturally aspirated engines are the only way to go when it comes to reliability.
And a thing of the past. Better get used to TCing and hybrid. Future is here.
Amen! Overpriced, over engineered! That's the story across the entire market today. I never thought there would be NOTHING new I would want nor afford, but here we are. Happy to own & drive a 2008 Crown Vic & 2013 F150, Both Naturally aspirated, affordable & easy to maintain. I have officially moved back into the used car market where I started as a teenager in the 80s!
How do turbo diesels last for decades then? I thought turbo charging makes reliability worse

They can’t sell trucks with $16k off the sticker now. Who’s going to spend $90k?
As a lifelong Mopar customer with three currently in my driveway, I have no use for $90,000 pickups, turbos, hybrids, or EVs. Its nice, but it isn't *that* nice. Good luck, "Stellantis".

Where you been? Some of these things are about the same price as the HD ones now or more expensive! Been that way for a long time. Hell, Ford stopped making cars because they were driving down the ticket average. 🤣
In line 6 cylinder engines are the best type of layout, smoothness, ease of maintenance, room to work, simpler design. I am not necessarily saying this one though. I would have gone with a larger displacement, about 4.0 or 4.5 litres, high compression like 12.0 : 1 even if it achieved 350 horsepower and 300 pounds feet of torque. More reliable, longer lasting and as everyone knows, once those turbos start spinning, there goes your fuel economy. Bragging be damned.
The front bumper resembles me a frontend of some cars from kia motors.
Love that they went with an inline 6.
So much time spent going over the details of the top trim. The manufacturers lead and most journalists follow. Motor Week of all journalists should go back to their roots.
If they were objective they wouldn't get free cars to review
My 2016 Limited was great with the Hemi. I ended up with a 2024 Limited this year with the Hemi e-torque. Leaps and bounds ahead of my 2016. Didn’t have any trouble out of my Gen IV Ram and it held its value.
The new straight 6 engines are technical marvels. My dad had a few slant 6s when we were kids. Looking forward to see how the new truck workout.
How's the fuel economy sir?
@@e.t.cetera7035
Hello
So far the combined fuel economy has been 18 mpg on the 2024. Was sitting around 19-20mpg highway. My 2016 brand new was as good starting out. But my 2016 had the higher ratio rear end so it had more grunt off the line. The 2024 has the lower ratio so it gets better gas mileage. I expect it will do better and it has the 5 additional gallons of gas (31 gallons)
My childhood all over again
Im grateful for RUclips and this channel
People don’t make enough for the Tungsten….or any of these models to begin with.
I beg to differ. I see plenty of top trim trucks down here. They wouldn’t offer them if people didn’t buy them.
I'll be very honest, I always see top trim trucks and suv's rolling about the moment I hear them annouce/sell them. They Def aren't gonna be bought by fans and most likely will be bought by those who just use their cars to carry their kids and get groceries tho.
Americans love having the most expensive everything... just so you know if you invest you to can have alot of money..
sure they do... otherwise the market wouldn't have shifted this way... you guys just need to face reality of the changing market.

Looks awesome. Why didn't you test it on the track though? Wanted to see what the inline 6 does which I would take over any other engine in a truck for sure!
Hopefully the V6 is still an option. John Davis is MotorWeek. The OG in automotive journalism.
Only with a hybrid from what I understand
The 3.6 is alive and well. My 2025 is currently in production. It’s a “mild hybrid”.
3.6 is more reliable than the hemi of old, dont worry about that
Guys, they had to take out the hemi, otherwise there'd be competition between the V8 and the hurricane. Remember, the 5.7 hemi was originally a 2500-class engine that just so happens to have amazing packaging dimensions.
If its anything like the coyote/ecoboost problem, this is actually a blessing in disguise. we're gonna have a next-gen hemi sooner rather than later.
Big mistake getting rid of the Hemi. These Turbos will break way more, I am guessing like the ford eco boost. They even use more fuel.
I can’t wait for an aftermarket exhaust on these engines!
I read it right from Chrysler when the hurricane was announced they stated that this new motor unlike the hemi will not run on anything lower than 92 octane and if you put 87 into it you will not be producing the rated horse power or mpg as you would get by running high octane. I just bought a new ram and my dealer said exactly that . New jeep wagoneer owners are not to happy that they have the hurricane now because some have tried 87 octane and they called the dealer because nobody told them 😂
cozt of high test n vo eest to high country u no find high test . vu k reg used to ve 101
I bought a 2024 ram 1500 with the old V6 because I don't tow or haul much at all and this newer version of old faithful is getting me no less than 18 mpg around town and I hauled 900 pounds of stone and averages were above 19.7 to 20.1 mpg I pretty happy
An analog cluster painted on an LCD is fischer-price levels of cheap and cheesy. The abundance of flashy screens in this truck must have been inspired by the movie idiocracy.
I wonder they they didn’t replaced the 3.6L V6 with a naturally aspirated variant of their 3.0L I6.
GM’s investment in keeping the V8 under their trucks hoods will pay big time in the long run.
A 520 hp V6 isn’t going to be reliable.
straight 6
Good call. I knew that. Just didn’t realize that I said V.
no turbo is in ICE..they are al built to puke at 80-100k
It's a straight six dufuss.
Love this channel they need to add an offroad course and person to be competitive
Interesting engine choice from Stalantis. Wonder how a 3.0 liter twin turbocharged 6 will fare in the long run? Specially with emission restrictions and 500+hp. People should wait to buy and see if they figure out the kinks as time goes by. It sounds insane to squeeze that much power out of a small production motor.
Sounds fantastic. Like the lifters are already chattering. 90 for that?? kudos tho for the Rush Red Barchetta.
No Hemi V8? I’ll pass!
Motorweek gives clear, concise reviews that we can use. Only wish they could lower prices
please tell us what Motorweek said about fuel consumption in their "review that we can use"
Makes me want to hold onto my Ram 1500 Classic Tradesman Hemi for as long as possible. Simple enough to mod and maintain, enough power for what I need the truck to do, gets 16-18 mpg city, 23-25 mpg hwy and was able to pay it off early when they were going for $32k new.
Bought a new vehicle in 2020 and have a 2.9apr. Happy to live in those days in these prices
cant wait for the 0-60 and 1/4 mile runs with this high output version!! almost 550hp is no sneeze!
Wow actually I can’t wait for an aftermarket exhaust on these engines 🎉🎉🎉
This is my future truck right here
But I would love to see and own srt and TRX trim package of this town
Really nice Truck. I wish they would put this much effort into a Chrysler branded product! I can't afford anything over 35l. Do you remember when Chrysler came out with cool designs attainable if you had a decent job. I like that the Ramcharger name is making a comeback.
Damn i hate that i like it already got some outfitter ideas
Seems fine, but bring back the 4.7HO Dakota
Never gonna happen at this rate
lmao 4.7 what year is it 2003?
Had me with a straight six, lost me with twin screws pushing the six to behave like the 5.7 Hemi. Have to wait and see how reliable the six will be.
This is egregious. Who are they making these for? Almost 50,000 dollars after taxes and fees for the tradesman? Just a few years ago you could get the regular cab hemi tradesman for under $30000 out the door. Suede? leather? Do they think the average Ram owner maintains their car? Digital instrument cluster that can stop working after 5 years? I have an '05 Ram and my plan is to be buried with it
Not long ago you could price out a Dodge tradesman with a Cummins for $50k
I have a 2004 Dodge 2500 5.9L with 245k miles that I’m keeping
There will be deep discounts.
They're making them for people with more money.. they're selling them... and making record profits. Why would they focus on making cheap tradesman and less porfit?
Go check out the new Tacoma at over $65k and come back to see us
Best looking and riding trucks on the road . Had mine for 21 years and will never speak bad of Rams . However I just bought the Nissan Titan after 6 months of reading and test driving . Not paying 70,000 or more dollars for a truck .
1:03 John: Where you used to see hemi, get ready to say hurricane! LOL
1/4 mile time? 0-60?
they should have called it the slant six
Not exactly what I call a road test. No track test.
This RT was shot off site, outside of Austin, TX. No access to their home test track.
If it were my money, I’d I can afford it, I’d get that twin turbo high output engine, since the Hemi is no longer offer. Like my uncle, I prefer a V8 in a 1/2 ton truck. He has a 2018 Ram 1500 Limited Hemi 4x4.
Not ever buying a non V8 pick up, ever. But that Tungsten interior is amazing
"EPA: 15 City, 20 Highway, 17 Combined" since Motorweek didn't mention it in this "road test." Or that the fuel tank is 23 gallons... so you are reminded every 300 miles about the terrible gas consumption. Typical fill up is $62... every 300 miles. (Unless you have zero payload in the truck and are driving it like it's on an EPA test, in which case you will get a bit further)
That damn 5.7 hemi was great......10 years ago.
TFL truck showed that the MPG is lower than the coyote V-8 on the highway. so what's the point of this new motor?
It was a very bad comparison. The Ram was a 3.92 rear end which which is a massive MPG killer as well has very aggressive tires. The Ford Tremor had a 3.73 and weigh like 700lbs less.
These high-output turbo engines are gonna be toast at 100K miles.
Maybe but they did make good 4 cylinder turbocharged engines in the past
@@Slow.S55500 hp out of a 3.0 engine is not gonna be reliable in the long run. Way to complicated then a v8
@@waterloo123100 I have a feeling the engine block will be fine, the issues I do see happening are more likely to be turbo failures and drivetrain issues, such as the possibility of front axles, front differential, possibly transmission as I don’t know if they beefed it up such as the rear end of these.
I have a 2020 5.7 with etorque. I would much prefer the new inline 6 turbo especially the higher output one.
Why no 0-60 and 1/4 mile numbers?
Twin turbo V6s…. when u just don’t want the longevity of a V8…..
Best show 🎉
5.7l hemi should atleast be an option. Like ford does with the 5.0.
thought I was watching Yellowstone for a second there
Whats MPG on the 3.0TT ???
Small increase at best but much more power. You basically get one or the other
Only 120k what a bargain.
Johnathan Davis is a blessing to us all
“ As little as 42k for a tradesmen” 😂😂😂
Nice truck! But not having the equivalent of Ford's 7.2KW Pro Power Onboard makes these Ram trucks a non-starter for me. The available Ram 2KW option doesn't cut it, I need Ford's 7.2KW to fully power my 25 ft RV while boondocking (microwave, air conditioner, etc).
I almost guarantee that you won't see a tradeseman available on any dealer lot. At least not enough to consider it widely available to those who want them. Most will be forced to buy the bloated high priced models with glitchy fiat electronics. I had a 2014 5.7 hemi tradesman. It was basic but had great towing power. I don't need a home theater system/luxury condo on wheels for 90k. This is utter madness. I could buy a Lexus GX550 with top trim level for less! And don't expect a tiny 3L I6 to have a long life whilst pushing that kind of power. Toyota's finding that out right now. Semi truck engine makers learned the inverse relationship between hp and longevity decades ago.
I absolutely love my 2018 Laramie with the hemi, best truck I've ever had
They could have gotten the same or better numbers with two smaller displacement turbo Hemi V8s. A full-size truck or SUV should always have at least one V8 engine. Otherwise, it's not worth it to get one.
Conundrum, house or truck.
you can live in your truck
They didn’t mention the missing oil dipstick
The story today is awesome Carriage & Chassis, Horribly Over engineered & volatile drive trains! I don't want a turbo anything! There is NO replacement for displacement! Keep is simple stupid some say. Dodge didn't really get the Hemi all that right either. The Multi Displacement or Active Fuel Management system causes many issues. The best Hemi was offered less that system available only in a manual transmission version of the Challenger or Charger. Those are the ones to own. But then again, if one needed a truck where does that leave us? Can we get back to basics? I don't really need to be driving a turbo charged personal computer. We have nothing for an entry level consumer anymore. Thanks for your coverage & posts all these years. Godspeed.
Stellantis needs to work with Cummins or Isuzu (I think that’s the new Duramax)… and make a mini I6 diesel for Ram 1500 with similar strong exhaust brake as 6.7 Cummins.
When will there be a new-gen Ram truck? Will it be followed by a Ram-badged SUV that could preview the next-gen Jeep Wagoneer/Grand Wagoneer?
The Hurricane twin-turbo is plagued with problems... good luck to the buyers 😢😢😢
I owned 3 hemi engines all of them had lifter problems at under 60k miles. I do a lot of city slow driving. So in my opinion the hemi is a bad choice. But I currently own a 6.4 challenger hemi I hardly drive it though.
Doesn’t really feel like a new model so much as a mid cycle refresh.
I’m glad I went out and got a 24 Nissan Titan SV, mostly loaded, for 48k out the door. No special financing but I’ll work to pay it off early. 48k made me want to puke but these numbers are nuts.
I'll wait for 2028 or 2029 for all new design inside and outside
V8s are still available. 22s 23s and 24s leftover a plenty
I hate the new taillights. Ditching the much safer amber signals is just insane
They should’ve made the I6 port injected. Heavy truck, high pressure DI and 2 turbos boosting those lines/gaskets? Truck will have a heart attack early in life. 😢
Or just do what toyo does and go dual port and direct.
@@carboydorifutoparty3976 Agreed
Keep in mind that all of these vehicle reviews are being paid to tell us why "we shouldn't be mad" that there are no longer naturally aspirated versions of anything... and they never, ever mention reliability beyond the warranty.
This was straight up salesmanship and telling viewers they shouldnt be mad really pulled open the curtains on that fact.
We went through something similar during the late 70s and early 80s. Most 5.7 to 6.2 liter V8s were putting out 150 to 170 hp.
We were spoiled by the recent V8 horsepower wars. Technology will catch up again and V8s will return. These new turbos aren’t of the engineering of the 80s. Let’s see what happens.
Anywho, still plenty of 2024 and older Rams to purchase. You could also shop Ford or Chevy for V8 options. It’ll all work out.
While the review is good, it's focused on the most expensive trim level and likely beyond the reach of most shoppers. Perhaps do a review of a Laramie with the standard output Hurricane?
Just as good
@@philipwood8776 Thanks. You've answered all my questions.
Should have named it a slant 6….
think I would rather have tungsten over raptor, will buy either once the market crashes and there are soup lines , so probably soon.

I’d buy the hemi option while it’s still an option engine

In what Universe?
RAM should still offer the HEMI V8....along with the Turbo 6 cyl..The truck you tested is a high end model the regular 420 hp turbo 6 doesnt jump off the line like the HEMI and the HEMI gets 1 mpg better than the Turbo 6..Add two turbo's to a 5.7 Hemi you have 800hp(look it up)!
Really the H.O turbo 6 power range is good but what guys wanted was the 485 hp 6.4 Hemi in the 1500...RAM never did sadly..
They only made the turbo 6 with lots of power to try to sway HEMI guys into a 6 cyl..Sure some will but I wont..I bought 2 new RAM trucks with HEMI V8's so,I am good for 20 years! I used to buy new all the time spent over $2,000,000 since 2003 with HEMI trucks, cars but not anymore..I will save money with my current.
Not against the turbo 6 engines, but against removal of the HEMI V8 they didnt have to do it..European ownership is ruining them! Chrysler has a minivan,Dodge has the Hornet and Durango the Charger still isnt being made for sale as of yet..Jeep is the only decent full line brand..RAM was perfect now no 8cyl dont know the direction they are heading with $100,000 trucks! Okay, I've come to terms with the I6. I don't think it'll work, but just my opinion alone isn't worth crap, but a 65-90k price range, for a light duty truck, is bs.
Bigger and bolder grill. Well, no sh*t!?
I want one but for under 20k
There is no way in hell I'm buying a new truck with these idiotic prices. I can do a lot of maintenance and upkeep, when needed, on my truck for much, much less than the cost of a new truck payment.
I blame lack of funds. There has been so many ownership changes and bankruptcies in their past that it seems they only manage to really sink money into products about every 10 years. The Hemi came out in 2002/2003 and went largely unchanged until the updates around 2009/2010. And then it stayed that way since (performance variants aside). But what I can't figure out is why they didn't sink some coin into a next gen Hemi and instead ditched it for a clean slate I6 twin turbo family of engines. Don't get me wrong, both the base Hurricane and the HO make much more power than their outgoing counterparts and will likely be more efficient, it still seems like an odd move since GM just sunk 1 BILLION into Gen 6 small block V8s for trucks (and Corvette).
Well, I guess Ford's gonna be getting a hurricane kick from Ram.
