@@tallll70 unfortunately, some options are packaged together because they all rely upon the same hardware. An 8.4kW inverter requires a hybrid drive, because it needs a large battery and high capacity wiring harness. And I *_WANT_* a hybrid truck for more reasons than I have character count to explain. But I agree that equipment packages do need to be more forthcoming with information and justifiable.
Yep, trucks are now seen as Luxury vehicles. Gone are the days of bench seat, 3 on the tree, opening both doors and spraying it out with the garden hose daily driver.
I’m wondering if the 2024 and older Hemi equipped trucks will retain value better now. Same thing happened to Toyota, the value of their older 5.7 trucks skyrocketed once they announced their switch to twin turbo. Lastly the first gen of a brand new engine platform is bound to be full of bugs
We all know the turbo engines pull well. But will it last. A 60k truck that only lasts 100k miles is quite pathetic. New vehicles need to last 300k miles for what it costs now.

I agree that TFL is very informative, likely my top automotive channel, mainly for the personalities, but I think you mentioned something very important, Auto Journalist may have made the trucks we buy more complex and capable, and also hella expensive, unjustly so imo
It's probably not going to be. In theory it should be being a straight 6. But it's definitely not going to be 2JZ or AMC 4.0L durability. And given I think its a Fiat design... I'm not expecting much reliability. Perhaps I'll be wrong. But there's been a lot of new tech thrown at this engine. So it's going to need to be proven. The aftermarket for it might be interesting however.
@@timstevens5769smaller twin turbo is no stressing. As long as internals are designed for boost, they will handle it easy. This engine is designed for maximum boost. Larger turbos at higher rpm will be more stress. That’s why Dodge went with smaller turbos so power is at low rpm. Best of both worlds.
@@ryanb8736 - I will not go on and on with this. The point was simple and to the point. The Hellcat 800-900 HP from the previous Hemi engines will not be seen in these. Just agree, say nothing, or say thank you. Why argue a simple point?
I liked how the tradesman was equipped but that price… You can buy a base model Tundra with all that equipment for around $48k or step up to a SR5 for around $50-$52k. Over the years, Ram has became more expensive than its competitors. There’s better value elsewhere.
Yea I had considered buying ram in the past because you could get more features, for less money than the competition.. But the past 2 years ram has lost their mind. Their quality control is nowhere as good as Ford and gm.. Yet they have surpassed them in price. FCA is crazy. Everybody knows their quality is iffy, and are not gonna pay more than what they could get a 150 or tundra for.
Start adding the equipment to it.....the price balloons quickly. Comparable trucks built,Tundra is cheaper than all the domestics. Ford isn't gonna let me build a loaded supercab anymore either so I've probably owned my last F150. Tundra probably be my next truck. Ive had the 6.2L GM lifter fiasco, don't trust Ram....so options are limited(with smaller cab).
@@rodjbosch tundra is the bottom of the barrel for me, worst fuel economy, less features, less towing capacity. If it was the the bullet proof 5.7? Then it would be a different story but it's to new to know the longevity along with the ram.
@rome4060 Less features? They all have pretty much the same features nowadays.....depends on how you spec them. Any of the half tons will pull my 7k trailer ok and haul whatever I need to hual. I drive nothing but extended cab/double cab trucks with the 6.5ft bed. As of 2024 I can't even get a F150 Supercab with heated seats(a must for me) I have no interest in a crew cab/5.5ft bed Anyone that lets me build such a truck(not bare bones) will be a consideration in a few years. Mpg....1 or 2 difference I don't care about. Tundra quality and durability......that is definitely up in the air....in a few years we will know more. Im still scarred by my last GM 6.2L/8 speed lemon so I'd have a tough time going there. That leaves Ram and Toyota.
Straight sixes have a very unique sound, with an aftermarket system im sure it will make a very good sound. Think of bmw, toyota supra, older nissan skylines. Way better sounding than v6s
I noticed they announced it ending well ahead of time... Wonder if they wanted to spur the feeling to come buy the hemi while you still can to boost sales this year
Love your channel and your content. I appreciate your input on these new trucks. BUT i will never spend this kind of money on any new truck. I will stick with my 02 f250 4x4 7.3 powerstroke.
What a thorough first look and first tow review! I really appreciate the detail, including the comparisons between the previous and new versions. The prices may seem high, but we have seen market forces at work recently, bringing the real-world prices down. I think the Big Three are trying to figure out where this highly competitive market’s MSRPs should be.
Ram are good trucks but I like Ford more. The F-150 Powerboost is the most versatile 1/2 ton truck on the market today. From the upcoming RAM options I am excited only by the Ramcharger.
I drove the Ecoboost with my wife when we were looking and she said her minivan sounded better. This seems to have the same problem. We also drove the Ram and ended up buying a 2019 Laramie quad cab. The Hemi was one of the big reasons. The Hemi just felt and sounded right. The interior was also significantly nicer than Ford or GM. Ram/Dodge made a name for themselves with the Hemi. Will be interesting to see how they do without it especially if they don’t bring another v8 into the mix.
20:30. 1 mirror probably cost $1,000 plus to replace with all that technology in them. Technology is good but those mirrors will get possibly destroyed but definitely hit a few times a year if your doing any major driving or working especially if you extend them out all the way
You're correct. 6 cylinder engine is the best, because you get more power with inline six and also you get better towing and better warranty than the old Hemi engine.
@seansweeney3088 no V8 option is still gonna hurt ram. Watch. The V8 was a big reason they sold trucks. Most people don't want a 4 banger turbo in a truck lol natural aspirated is always the best way to go and keep that option open always.
In all fairness, it does have a few more ponies than the ford 3.5 ecoboost but has less overall torque so will be interesting to see how they compete side by side equally equipped as possible.
ANdre, A couple comments for your next test- 1-SOund of the engine exhaust under no load isn't very indicative of real world sound. How about some recordings taken on the side of the road wit the truck driving by under various degrees of load or a mike onthe rear of the truck so you could hear it while driving. Would love to hear full load at both low and high RPMs as well as normal sound. 2-FOr those of us in rust country and with a truck as a second vehicle how the truck survives winters salt is important. Many trucks rust away before they are mechanically worn out id driven less than 20,000 miles per year. Perhaps you could have a Ram guy address how the corrosion protection has been updated with particular attention to the bottom of the tailgate, bottom of doors, rocker panels and over the rear wheels. Also ask them why Ram doesn't make a proper factory rust proofing system available as an option. The dealer provided system depends so much on the applicator and because it is a shitty job to do it doesn't get well trained and experienced people doing the work.
Impressive torque decent milage rear end geared nicely to utilize the torque & your were right about those class leading tow mirrors can't wait for the heavy duties I've got a feeling they'll be true gamechangers in terms of torque especially considering it's a non diesel I think a lot of people will opt for the heavy duties if they tow & can afford the upgrades
I’m glad they didn’t change much about the exterior or the interior. I purchased a fifth generation when they first came out and still have it. It’s a great truck. I think until someone drives one they won’t understand how nice they drive.
It was slow and over complicated. Thats why they broke. Too many moving parts to gain power. A straight 6 is less parts. You let the simplicity of Turbos do the work. Way more power. Much better reliability.
$55k USD for a 2wd work truck... lol yea, it can sit on the lot with the old ones. Even with great trade in values, you're still paying similar payments and price than what most of us would have paid for the old one without a trade. Prices need to really go down.

A Hemi is actually way more complex. A ton more moving parts. Another head on it for cooling. Valvetrain is more complicated. Too much stress on it too. NA engines are like that if you want 400hp. A straight 6 is easier to build and work on. It’s as simple as it gets. It’s also a lot more balanced with all cylinders inline and the secret is longer block. It makes it even more balanced. Now just add string rods, pistons, best head gasket, and simple flowing head. Add long runners with two small turbos to keep high HP and torque at low rpm. Add secondary cooling too turbos for extreme longevity. Use the latest ball bearing technology for turbos. Turbo is easiest technology today. Nothing to them. Simple recipe for longevity and power. A lot more room in engine bay for cooling too. Easy to work on too. Only one head instead of two. V8 is way more complicated.
@@ryanb8736 'cept they've added soo much tech to these, like there's 2 cooling systems, one for normal rad cooling and a lower temp system for cooling the turbo and intercooler apparently that has an electric water pump. Dang. Just finished the vid. $83.4k for a half ton is so painful. Stop this ride I want to get off. Given these prices, I feel like I have to keep my 2020 1500 Lonestar Hemi 4x4. I paid about 40 g's for my 2004 Laramie, it's been a good truck. 287,000 miles now and running great. I've been thinking about getting a new truck but the prices are getting out of control.
The big 3 have lost their minds and can’t understand why the sales numbers have dwindled when most people can’t afford groceries. Let me guess the fuel economy is no better than the hemi but it’s no longer available. So between payments ,insurance and taxes you are looking at $1300 a month. If you need a knob on the dash to back up a trailer you have no business towing.BRING BACK BASIC TRUCKS AND YOU WILL SELL MORE OF THEM!!!!
I think I will keep my 2019 Laramie as long as i can, bought for new for 46k. The new changes don't justify double the price. Although it seems like a really nice new truck.
3 years ago I bought a 2021 Ram 2500 6.4 Tradesman 4wd, Crew Cab, Long Bed. Heavily optioned truck and I love it. Out the door for $52,500. The prices have become laughable, as well as the people who buy them.
I like the brake controller on the left. If i need to use it I'm going to need to be leaning to look into the drivers mirror to watch my trailer to keep it in the lane. If my controller is in the middle its harder to do that. Especially when its a travel trailer and looking out of the rearview is pointless
I've been a Mopar guy for a long time...but the SOUND of that motor now will more than likely be enough for me to switch camps. The soundtrack was a big part of the appeal. All that said, I'll be sticking with my current Ram for the foreseeable future. The PRICES and interest rates are staggering.
Just picked up my 2023 Ram 1500 two weeks ago tomorrow. A 3.0 diesel Laramie for $43,000. At the moment that's a lot of money for a truck. I cannot imagine paying even the $69,000 my truck listed for let alone $80,000.

There's no doubt this channel has made the trucks we buy better. I owe you guys gratitude for making me aware of American Expedition Vehicles. I had never heard of them until you covered them on your channel. Loving your new rear AEV bumper on the trail hound. Truck look awesome. I own a 2015 AEV Prospector power wagon. 34,000 miles now. Remove adaptive cruise control, giant touch screen and the trailer backup steering gizmo and drop the price a lot. Ram would sell more trucks.
The words Truck and Affordability don't even coincide anymore
Not new anyway
If the Hurricane engine proves to be a durable platform, I can see tuners hooning the snot out of them.
The manufacturers are already stressing them to get this power from the smaller displacement. The days of taking a lazy v8 and going crazy are gone.
@@timstevens5769smaller twin turbo is no stressing. As long as internals are designed for boost, they will handle it easy. This engine is designed for maximum boost.

MSRP needs to be about half of that for me to be interested.

Truck prices are beyond ridiculous at this stage - and yes, RAM is right there with the others in that. What a shame.
@seansweeney3088 no V8 option is still gonna hurt ram. Watch. The V8 was a big reason they sold trucks. Most people don't want a 4 banger turbo in a truck lol natural aspirated is always the best way to go and keep that option open always.

These prices are outrageous. To get a decently packaged 1/2 tonthat can tow is north of 60K is absolutely wild.
That is a nice new truck. A Ford Ram Toyota Chevy test of the 2024s new full-size trucks will be good to see
ANdre,
A couple comments for your next test-
1-SOund of the engine exhaust under no load isn't very indicative of real world sound.

I hate that there's no V8 option.

Along with longevity concerns of these new complex and expensive vehicles is the fact you can't work on them if they break.
I like the brake controller on the left. If i need to use it I'm going to need to be leaning to look into the drivers mirror to watch my trailer to keep it in the lane. If my controller is in the middle its harder to do that. Especially when its a travel trailer and looking out of the rearview is pointless
