@hughitt6107 except that it's not running stressed. Crank, rods & pistons are forged from the factory. What exactly can you improve on beefing up the internals?

That was the last thing Chrysler they had left. I guess if you want to argue the shape of the Wrangler but even that it's completely changed
Problem is BMW has mastered the I6TT. These will have to be extremely tunable, reliable, and cheaper to compete. I’d have a tough time taking this over an M340. That’s apples to apples. Once you lose the V8, you start cross shopping with every other German brand. I got my challenger for the 6.4. The sound, the NA, all of it
BMW 6tt is a great engine however it's cost to maintain is outside reasonable by a Texas mile. That's why BMW values tank horribly when the warranty expires.
100% Agree! Right on point with BMW, also the rest of the European market. Which makes me wonder if that's why they went the Hurricane direction, is Shitlantis using the American market to production test an I6 TT engine for their European brands? Much cheaper to do it here than Europe, given the stricter emission standards, fuel standards, etc... over there.
Inline 6's are a very good platform. "High Strung" and over stressed Turbo or Super Charged versions are NOT long term Reliable. If ....ANY.... of these Engines make it past Warranty, I'll be totally shocked.
I’ve been a mustang guy for 30 years so I understand all the guys here screaming V8 till I die but I’ve also owned a 3 litre twin turbo BMW for five years. An inline 6 is so vibration free when you first drive them it feels like they aren’t running. They make peak torque from 1400rpm straight to redline and the depth of your wallet is the only limiting factor in power potential. They just make power everywhere, down low, midrange, up top, if you’re in the right gear you hit the gas and go! It’s true they don’t make the noise of a V8 but thankfully they also don’t make the noise of a V6. Like it or not seeing the taillights of something powered by a turbo I6 is just going to become more common
Having grown up with a parent that had an old school bmw i6 and Im gonna try for a 340i, but being almost 21 that price and insurance is gonna end me lol
@@averagerecon9777 don’t kill yourself with a car payment, just buy something older and cheaper. Get something with an N54 or and N55, the reliability issues are overblown as long as you don’t buy one that’s got a million miles and hasn’t been maintained. That way you can have some fun and mod your car instead of putting all your money into a payment. And don’t think those B58’s aren’t going to have leaky gaskets and problems when they’re hitting 120,000 miles, easy to talk about reliability with 40,000 miles and two years of warranty left. I’ve got an E92 N54, had it for 5 years, done the plugs and coils and I’m about to do my water pump so other than oil changes I’m looking at about $700 over 5 years in maintenance. Going to walnut blast it next year, do the oil filter housing gaskets and a valve cover and gasket at the same time preventatively maybe $1000 for all that and the year after that I’m going to do a turbo upgrade and while I’m down there I’m going to do the oil pan gasket. Anyway my point is if you’re young don’t overspend just to have something new and flashy that’s not what the car scene is about, you need to have enough left over to actually enjoy life. I think people forget what a truck is for, work. When the turbo spool up for heavy loads or towing, mileage drops like a stone( friends with ecoboost confirm). My experience with my 87 GN is that as well...cruising 25mpg,playing 12-14mpg. I don't give a crap about the latest gizmo, give me a natural v8 that will last and can be worked on. You can put 10 lbs of crap in a 5 lb bag but the seams are gonna give

I've been around diesel engines for over 40 years, both trucks and marine, you cannot compare big slow turning diesels to the 3.0. Not saying it won't be a decent little engine, just not a 3406 Cat.
Look. Here is the reality. The I6 is a 6. Nothing will ever change that. No one that loves the roar of a V8 will ever get the same joy from an 6 cylinder. Just the reality. The V6 eco boost is a solid motor for ford. Been proven even racing. Makes great power, super tunable. But it is not a predator. The hurricane, on paper is solid. Just isn't an emotional power plant.

@@hpickettz34 lol. Sorry to offend your "real enthusiast" sensibilities. But this video was not about BMW or Porsche. Porsche has a fantastic flat 6. BMW a great I6. Lotus even made a very fun little 4 banger. Forgive me for not being overly enamored with a V6 Camero, or a 4 banger Mustang, or in this case, the actual topic of this video, an I6 in the upcoming 2025 Charger. And, I did say that the EcoBoost and the Hurricane are both solid motors. I don't imagine you would have jumped all over a 450hp TT I4 in your Chevy days. Not saying there aren't good or even great motors out there that are not a v8. An Italian v12 makes music with its high end revs. Ferrari has a v6 in the 296 that sounds pretty good and the car is a monster. And Steve Saleen has a wonderful 4 banger in the new (if it ever actually happens) Saleen 1 My point is in the MOPAR world Dodge is not making a GT3rs. They are making an American muscle car. Dodge doesn't even have the support that dealers need to fix ppls cars with the 2015 design. And they under pay their mechanics which leaves the customer with sub par work being done

Wow, I didn't think there were even very many of them on the road yet. I was intrigued by these but they burned me with the 3.0 Ecodiesel in 2014 so I knew better than to trust them with another new release.
@@FaithfulServant316 Apparently they didn't learn their lesson with the Ecodiesel. The I6 is basically the I4 from Jeep and Alfa with 2 more cylinders. Using an engine meant for a crossover or smaller sedan to put out huge torque is one of the main reasons why so many of those diesel engines would blow out the bottom ends in the 1500.
I'm from Australia and the top engine swap here that isn't a V8 is Ford's BARRA turbo 4.0 inline 6 cylinder making as much as over 1200-wheel HP. They're cheaper than a 2JZ build over here.
1200whp isn’t muscle if it’s not a straight piped 400whp v8 - so muscle = a slow car that can’t corner and looks bulky and cheap and sounds louder than an explosion is the only way to live according to some of these dodge boys and girls. 🤦
@@XboxAlive Yes but you have to admit 1200 hp from a 4 cylinder is pretty impressive. It may not be a muscle car, but it'd be fun to toss one into a sedan and go have some fun. I love my V8s too but I need toys for all of my multiple personalities!
The bigger better brother of the ford barra is the 1FZ-FE and TB48 engines they are huge inline six 4.5-4.8 displacement and absolutely indestructible these 2 engines are capable with a turbo of 1500-2000 horse power on stock crank and block they destroy any V8 in a race or off road
Wow, my 2009 Viper has been the most reliable car I've ever owned. But to hear that both Wagoneers have issues....damn, what a disappointment in quality control.
According to some people here your Viper can’t be muscle if it’s not a v8. Throw that terrible sounding v10 away. No one wants a car that looks good and has big power that isn’t a straight piped V8. /sarcasm switch off
@@hpickettz34 So with that mentality it would be ok for modern passenger jets to constantly fail while in the sky? They have a thousand times more tech than a modern Wagoneer, yet they rarely fall out of the sky. Technology, if built correctly and with quality is extremely reliable. The Gen 4 Viper had probably the most advanced PCM ever designed in the early 2000's...in fact, nobody has been able to crack the code so it can be modified (bummer). As hard as it is to believe, my 2009 Viper is classified as a low emissions vehicle according to the government mandated EPA emissions sticker.....600 naturally aspirated horsepower and low emissions....Yeah, that was real simple to do. Lets face it, Stellantis is crapping the bed in many ways. Another 18 months of this and they'll be sold again. Hopefully the new regime will pick a name that doesn't sound like an erectile dysfunction drug.
I love straight 6 engines. They are very smooth and the torque was right in the sweet spot. I've had 2 BMWs, one with the 3.3 and one with the 2.5 liter naturally aspirated inline six and they had plenty of power for those cars and they were great highway cruisers. I was getting 26 MPG at 75-80 MPH on trips. They don't sound as good as a V-8, but they have a nice PURR to them.
I agree, bmw m20, m54, s54, n52 all sound amazing to me. i love i6 engine sounds. i4s and v6s are too raspy, i5s and v10s are too high pitched. inline six and v8 and v12 are perfect.
An amazing engine. Per some Dodge/Ram mechanics, many repairs, specifically to anything mounted to the rear of the engine, require body off to repair. There is simply no room to reach between the firewall and the engine to work on anything. This adds thousands in labor costs to what should be an easy repair.
This needs to be the top comment. This is going to be a terrible alternative to the hemi. Car care nut called it “high strung”. Hoovie’s comment mirrored yours. Stay away!!
I saw that vid on RUclips where the entire body was off the chassis just to get access to some fasteners on the rear of the engine. As an old working auto tech, this was mortifying regarding my attitude toward Stellantis and their movement to get rid of Dodge, Chrysler and maybe Jeep and Ram. Also, what happens if a person purchases a new Dodge and they unfortunately go out of business? I've been driving Dodge's of all forms, new, rusted out, powerful and powerless since the mid 70s. Sure I've owned lots of other stuff too, GM, Ford, Honda, and even a couple Saabs! But between working on late model cars and seeing what's coming in the horizon....it's scary. Your average key board warrior doesn't really know what it's like working on this stuff day by day. And less people now want to get into the auto repair trade than even 10 years ago. I agree with @zilsmooth @Springfield2016 comments should be up on top to let anyone who's considering purchasing the latest cars to think very carefully and do their due diligence WITH real auto techs....NOT keyboard mechanic wanna be fakes. @RacerX9 please read this.
Sound means a lot to a car enthusiast. I can remember when the NASCAR Busch Series ran V-6s and the sound at the track was horrible. It was like listening to someone scratch a chalkboard. I have heard a few good sounding inline 6s, but none of them sound good with open exhaust systems.
Nothing sounds better with an open exhaust than it does with a proper exhaust setup. V6 sounds completely different than an I6 etc etc etc - not everything is about the amount of cylinders, and no engine should be dumping sound straight into the atmosphere without a proper exhaust setup. Joe Dirts car may be valuable at Barrett Jackson but that doesn’t mean he dumped his v8 into a straight pipe and it sounded good just because it was a V8. Modifying your car wrong to make it louder doesn’t make it sound good. Loud good.
Only ppl who talk like this, have LITTLE SHT 4/6 cylender TURDS! That DONT SOUND GOOD, no matter WHAT! And BLOW OFF ISNT YOUR ENGINE! It’s the Blow off! It’s a POS, and won’t last 4 YEARS!
I like racerx. He seems to be a great guy. But I have to be cautious about his messages. I feel he's to close to dodge and on their payroll so he can't say maybe what he honestly feels.
I'm a first time viewer of Racer X. Him worshipping Stellantis- ESPECIALLY with Stellantis screwing customers tells me he's too emotionally and probably financially invested in Stellantis to be objectionable. The Car Care Nut had a pre production 6 cyl Tundra months ago and was praising it with the tenacity of a cult member. The Toyota engine like the Stellantis engine is a giant Turd.
Lord forbid I do something other than bash Dodge .. Thats what so many of these guys are doing.. they are so close minded! It just gets old! I encourage you to simply try something new! You might actually like it! Just about every drag racer or performance enthusiast that has actually driven then this thing says its amazing. Some people change is scary and they just cant bring themselves to do it. Dodge doesn't pay me a dime. But I respect all engines because I know what they are capable of.
No one has a hard time with change if the change is for the better or not shoved down one's throat. Seems like it's a promotional video of Hurricane Engine. The sound is an important reason why we buy cars and nothing beats a V8 there. If we are going to spend our money on inline 6 might as well do it on a BMW.
I really don't understand why they dropped the SRT. Lot's of other manufacturer's are still making performance SUV. Never mind I'll stick with my 5.7 hemi.
My problem with the hurricane is that the tuning market will rule it out. If I want to build a straight 6 and boost it. I can boost a gm 4200. For cheap, and build huge power with just an ls derived head. The problem is, we can build better sixes that are proven in the field and on the track, for a fraction of the cost. I just don't see this motor being worth it to real motorheads.
based on what? Tunners tune V6 all day long. Being a twin turbo gives it even more potential. When the Cat3 crate drops, people are going to drop them in all kinds of vehicles

The hurricane engine will wear out 3-4 times faster than a naturally aspirated V8 Hemi and if it gets to 100,000 miles without issues, and that’s a big IF, even with forged internals …. you’re going to have loads of issues. Let’s talk when a good portion of hurricane engines hit 100k+ miles.
And what is your theory based on? I hope it's not based on tuners putting a turbo on a non turbo vehicle. Or even a forged motor. This motor was built for a turbo. It's a totally different animal
I have a '65 F350 with the same engine. The Ford 300 six is one of the best engines ever built. The Australians kept updating it and eventually gave us the Barra. .... The Hurricane is no Barra.
I drove ford Broncos and F-150s with both 302 V8s and 300 I6s. The 302 had a little more power, but the 300 was just as good. IMO, the debate isn't 8 vs. 6 cylinders; it is about size (displacement) period. Little engines start hitting a wall around 100,000 miles when you work them.
The hurricane is the least satisfying engine to drive in the full size truck segment because it’s a V6 and TFL trucks proved the hurricane is the worst engine in full sized trucks when it comes to MPGs. That’s why people aren’t crazy about the hurricane.

Plus I am getting older and I cannot stand vehicles with loud obnoxious exhausts systems. Amazing how times have changed and when the new Ram Truck debuted in 1993 and boy did people throw a hissy fit, Along comes the Charger in 4 door boy did people throw a temper tantrum, now here comes a new inline 6 turbo and people are once again throwing a fit. Times might be changing either you get on board or go elsewhere don't throw a tantrum, just move on enjoy your life.
Sounds like you had alot of great miles in those Mopars. To be honest, I miss my magnum 360 pickup truck...wish it hadn't got stolen and ruined. My replacement was a rusty 8100 Avalanche. I'd say it is similar to the wonderful V10 Dodge had.
Yup,my 5.7 isn't the fastest, but god damn it sound like a dream. I can still punch it to 150 mph on a straight road with no cars, with sound! And it's cheap.
I will keep my 2019 Dodge Charger R/T as long as possible. I smile every time I start it up. I am a car nut and take very good care of my vehicles. I have a 2002 Nissan Altima 3.5 SE that I bought new off the showroom floor in late 2001. It only has 55,000 miles. The only non wear and tear item I had to have repaired was the 6 CD Changer which I had a new changer put in it with a local old timer like me, I'm 72. He had it out of the dash in less than 5 minutes and back in the car in 5 days. The Charger has 33,500 miles on the 5.7L V8 and the only thing I have added to it is a OIL CATCH CAN. I put a new set of tires on it at 33,000 because I have too much fun laying down some rubber. With the new set of tires I have learned a good lesson and only did one burn out since they were new. I am only putting between 3500 and 5000 miles a year on it. One oil change a year with Mobile 1 or Pennzoil Full Synthetic for both cars. My wife drives the Altima and the HEMI is mine,LOL.
Reliability issues already plague the hurricane, the price point on the new charger is disgusting, the brand loyalty is lost, and there still is no launch date for the new cars if it even ever comes out
Time will tell the hurricanes reliability. The 5.7 hemi has always been a pretty good engine. The 5.7 hemi has had lifter problems at high miles but other than that they are pretty solid engines. Just change the oil every 5,000 miles and don’t let it idle all the time and a 5.7 hemi will run 220,000 miles all day long.
This is the same situation with the ford 3.5 ecoboost years ago. Everything on paper was better than the v8, but it sounded terrible and wasn’t reliable, so nobody cared for it. However I6 sounds better than a v6, we’ll have to see on reliability. I do remember driving a Taurus sho once with with the 3.5 ecoboost and it was a lot of fun; I always thought it would he cool to put it in a mustang, so I am excited to see the hurricane in the charger/challenger. Btw I drove a wagoneer with the I6 and it does have kick ass performance.
It's had some major issues from what I've found. I feel like it's a mix of the N54/ecoboost. Good engine, but what's around it will kill it cause it's faulty and hasn't been revised yet but will prob be fixed/updated in future models.
I worked at a dodge dealership and I was very disappointed with the quality of the vehicles coming from the manufacturer. So many electrical issues blemishes in the paint, bad batteries and more recalls than I can count. I eventually had to quit because I could not promote such a bad product.
I have always looked at motors like springs. You can make any spring almost act like another when you twist it a bit tighter. And it probably will work for a while. But almost without fail, that spring WILL SNAP. When it does, and in this case a motor, when it does, what else will it take with it? I would rather have just a regular EFI over twin turbo's because when they fail, and they will, how much will it cost to replace. They run harder, work harder, etc, putting more wear and tear on the tuner engine in your truck. I'll take a less wound up V8 that I can work on. Lower RPM's, less wear and tear, especially in high temp regions.
I have a 2013 Challenger SRT8 6 speed. I’m not opposed to the new hurricane engine or the electric version. I know this engine is going to be a beast but I’m wondering how it will be to service over the long run. It doesn’t have a physical oil dipstick, the spark plugs aren’t easy to get too, how long will the electric water pumps last and do they cost a fortune to change? Can we actually change the stuff on this engine ourselves without going to the dealer? Would also be cool if they offered a manual transmission with the six pack version of the charger.
Preach brother! The majority of the truck market customers have been struck on V8s and believe this new hurricane isn’t as good. But coming from being interested in tuning and having some background and knowledge with BMW tuning and their engine platforms potential. This engine in an American truck has me very excited to see the power potential with mods and tuning. This engine has the same specs and technology that the bmw engines have that are easily capable and reliable handling big power at higher rpm. I would love to be a part of creating a big single turbo kit for these, especially for the new RHO truck owners where they can most likely make enough power in mods to beat the predecessor 6.2TRX. Then make people realize these engines aren’t a joke. Also in hp numbers, we’ve always wanted to see a 6.4 in a 1500 Ram. The HO Hurricane power number wise is like putting a 6.4 in a 1500. And it’s about time.
I am glad that your positive about the hurricane engine but I have worked for Chrysler and Dodge for almost 20 years and the quality of there products and customer service suck!
Just as a service to others here, can you tell us what's the worst quality issue with any Chrysler or Dodge? I'm serious, not poking any fun at you....I'd like to avoid some of the products they've sold that you feel are the worst quality wise. TY for answering if you do. Oh, and an FYI, I personally don't like those roller lifters that lose the needle bearings in them and wipe out the cam. But then again, I hate Tritons also, which are Ford as you probably know. And that reminds how many Ecoboost's have giving up the ghost as well as every damn GM LS 5.3 that has engine issues that I've worked on.
Reminds me of the 80s when buick had the turbo v6 beating every v8 lineup performance engine within gm. But the difference is theres no choice for a v8
I have it's terrible. That hurricane engine isn't for me no matter how much you hype it up for stallentis. I would rather have a V6 supercharged. Even when you put your foot into it, it didn't go all that fast... you didn't fool me.
You'd rather have a v6 or v8? Inline 6 engines (like the Cummins) are over square, so they make way more torque down low. Even though the powerstroke(v8) makes way more hp and torque, the Cummins is superior for towing
I took a RAM SST for a test drive two days ago. I've been a long time Dodge owner, now RAM, and I'm excited to possibly buy an SST. I'm going to pull the trigger on a new truck here in the next two weeks. I have HATED the Hemi in the Dakota / Durango / Ram / RAM lineups for 20+ years now. I would NEVER have bought a RAM with the Hemi engine. I'm so glad they finally released the Hurricane. There is nothing else out there like it. I was about to trap myself into a Ford EcoBoost but they are riddled with problems. I think I'm going to buy the RAM; and they are currently $14k less (Big Horn Level 2) than the F150 (XLT 303A). Great video. I love this powertrain so far.
That Ancel battery tester is pretty cool. I'm going to have to look at getting one of those. Since my car is a push to start, it will either crank or it will not.. so I can't gauge on starter behavior to know if my battery is weak! A tester like that would be perfect to avoid the dreaded, no start scenario! As for the Hurricane I6, I'm not quite sure yet... I guess we'll have to see it installed in a performance car, see how it performs and holds up, and let time speak for it's reputation.
FrankieD SRT in Germany 🇩🇪. We all have to grow up sometimes. Nature of the beast. I’m all about power too. The 6 cylinder engine is a torque beast because of it’s inline profile. More direct and deliverable power. I owned a 1989 Ford F150 Short bed that was a torque monster. Not fast, but powerful as hell! I’m a MOPAR guy though. It’s not Horsepower, it’s Torque. A lot of people don’t really get that. If you’ve got a power train with a higher Torque output, you’ve got the Beans. Make sense? Love you brother!!!❤️
Give me both! I want stump pulling torque and horsepower. An I6 with twins can do it all. But I don't think I trust Dodge enough to build anything reliable. If they start taking lessons from BMW, then they will be onto something. But they have a shit history with building just good enough.
hes gonna say the turbos will fail. which is true. its a point of major failure. but not that crazy to replace. comparable to a transmission replacement in price.
I look at it like this. Change is very hard to accept. I get that everybody has had a moment like that. I won’t completely trash the inline 6 but from some of the things I’ve seen does raise eyebrows. Like the recent events with Demon 170 engine failing. Talking about electrical issues with the new hurricane engines, some concerns about the engine not having an oil dipstick, and then also as you mentioned the issues of a first year engine. It is enough to raise an eyebrow but I always like to wait to see what quirks are worked out and if any potential issues are worked out before giving my complete thoughts.
I just drove a 2024 Grand Waggoner L with Hurricane engine over 1,200 miles and it was awesome. My gas milage was great for such a large vehicle. Smooth as silk driving. The performance is very deceiving, you know you're in a super large SUV but the performance make you feel like it's a car. We average 21.2 mpg on the highway which was crazy!!! 512 miles to our destination we used 3/4 of a tank and 3/4 tank back home. I'm looking right now to purchase me and my family one.
I had a 2018 Raptor and had the MPT 93 PRX tune loaded to it since 1500 miles. Two years later and around 26k miles I traded it for a 2020 Ram Limited because I wanted to see what it was like. I loved how smoothly it rode and the self leveling suspension while towing but the Hemi was just weak compared to the tuned Raptor. So 22 months later I was back in a Raptor and the 93 PRX tune was loaded two days later. It’s been a little over two years with this Raptor and it is still running great. The power is fun and there when I need it. Maybe if I hadn’t had a tuned Raptor before driving the Hemi I would have thought it is fine but I just love the low end torque of a boosted motor! Almost forgot to add, if I had been paying attention that the Raptor R was coming out I would’ve just waited a little while longer and bought one of them but finances got tight last year for a few months so I couldn’t just trade in this Raptor for one. Things are back on track now so maybe soon.
It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Taking care of them definitely helps prolong them. But they run red hot and towing with them, driving with spirit, they will fail eventually.
I drove an enterprise rental wagoneer with the hurricane but the check engine light was on. I was also very surprised at the power delivery but I’m not crazy about all these electrical issues Jeep seems to have.
Going back 40 to 50 years, Chrysler (and I mean CJDR) have always had electrical issues with modules and wiring. However, their alternators, starters and batteries are generally speaking, reasonably durable. This is from a Mopar fan boy! As far as this inline 6 is concerned, according to engine engineers, they knew they were going to incorporate the turbos on these vehicles from scratch so as such, they designed the engine with that in mind. However many turbos out there are designed as an afterthought on an ICE and that is really where many turbo engines fail because they were not originally designed for it. As such, many internal and external components of the engine, such as the pistons or cooling system, cannot handle the extra boost.

Kuniskis walked out on it and Stellantis, that speaks volumes,so i have my doubts, anything,,,anything that relies on a turbo charger for power will be a problem, wait and see.same thing with the challenger chargers running turbos, problems, and the longevity won't be there.
I've heard they've been having alot of problems with them but it is a new engine so there's that. These issues are making it unreliable and techs don't want to work on it the whole body has to come off for any kind of drivetrain work.
Tbh this just seems like every manufacturer has issues now. Even toyo has having issues with their new I4 and V6TT so I'm expecting recalls for all of them for a good while till they get good tbh.

People with reservations about the 6 cylinder with twin turbos versus the V8, just research the 1987 Grand National GNX, V6 single Garrett turbo, fastest production car in 87, the numbers were reduced for insurance and tree hugger purposes, just imagine what the technology is today!!
Agreed on the GN. Wonder how fast it would be with a twin turbo v-8? , I owned and loved the Grand National, but this Dodge 6 cyl will likely have higher maintenence with Turbos than a regular Dodge v8. I would buy another RWD Grand National in a second.
The issue is just it’s a v6 not that it’s not fast or anything it’s just not a true muscle car. I have a hellcat and a stinger the stinger gets up and goes with some upgrades could smoke the hellcat all day. I rented a Grand wagoneer for a trip from texas to florida for a week. The twin turbos kicks in instantly and smooth. I dont know how reliable they are but definitely a fun vehicle!
We had a late model 22 Grand Wagoneer with the hurricane engine in it. It lasted 6k miles before it needed a whole new engine and cooling system! Not Impressed....
I just wish there was a better engine designed for the Ram. Not saying the hurricane won't suit customers needs or wants, but I drove one and decided to get another Hemi Rebel Ram G/T. Legends never die.
I just drove a Ram Rebel with the SO Hurricane, and man, is it impressive. Leaves the 5.7 Hemi in the dust. I drove it up a mountain, and the midrange torque is very impressive. People are being too negative about these things. I'm really excited to see what it does in the new Charger.
The problem is if you actually use a truck for by kind of hauling with weight. Your gas mileage tanks. TFL did a video saying it was actually worse than hemi with e torque
@carlwemple6075 their test was up a mountain. They have yet to test it on flat surfaces to my knowledge (not saying the same isn't true, I just haven't seen the video). Also, while this may matter to some consumers, the vast majority of owners will never even tow with their truck. Also, the EPA doesn't care about economy while towing. They only test in ideal situations and they care even more about smog rating than MPG. The hemi was one of the worst smog rated engines on the market. The hurricanes are much better and get better EPA ratings. That's what stops Stellantis from having to pay as much fines.
225 Slant 6 had a reputation for reliability and durability. I owned many late 60's dodges & Plymouth models with the 225. I will get a RAM 1500 next year. And it will be a i6.
I am exited and surprised to see the return of the straight 6 in RAM vehicles. Like probably many Australians I have fond memories of the Holden XU1, 6 Pak Charger, Valiant Slant 6, and the famous Falcon Barra, not to mention those old Q Dodge side valve motors that finished up in ski boats. Staight 6 rulz! Good job RAM.
I own an BMW M4 Comp that comes with the S58 inline 6 twin turbo. Has crazy power and with a few mods and a tune people are seeing 700 WHP out of the platform that can be daily driven. Sounds like garbage, I will admit, the way the turbos are arranged and the exhaust is setup but love it.
@susanestes418 is this the same bmw that use to make 1500hp out of a 1.5 liter turbo 4 for f1 in the early 80s, is this the same bmw that made the engine for the first 240mph super car in the early 90s, has dodge ever done that😂
love my 2013 RAM w/ hemi. Still on the fence about this. Turbos are tough on an engine....will it last 200,000 miles like a naturally aspirated v8? At $70,000 purchase price it needs to.
This tester is cheaper than a battery and you can use it over and over again. No sense in shotgunning parts when you can diagnose for much cheaper. I checked his link and when you click the 40% off coupon before adding to cart it was only 24 bucks.
As a 31 year Chrysler tech i would say the 3.0 tt has plenty of power, but the lag when stomping the pedal is kind of annoying and lets see how it holds up after 100k. Right now im doing a lot of t stats and fuel pumps on them. I had a couple of engines that were blown up early but they are starting to thin out.
All in all, X, you're a great politician and salesman. But will the racer in you actually buy one? I was born & raised on a V8, it's gonna be hard to change. I'm old. LOL
It's the Dodge "Barra"! The Mopar "Atlas"! Inline 6's have a legacy of strong performance with basic mods. But in the era of transverse mounted engines, that didn't fly so well.
Their problem is that they should have showcased that engine in something that'll take advantage of its performance. Throw it in something mustang sized, or bring back a single cab Ram RT.
Just buy a BMW why spend that much money on a unproven inline 6 from a company that has sabotaged every American brand. When around the same price range you can get a BMW with the same engine and is actually a luxury brand not a brand forced into a luxury brand it just makes no sense.
There is NO replacement for displacement... Try driving and towing with it for about a year. The tricks to get power out of small displacement engines wear out quickly when it is under load on a regular basis. The Ford 300 6 cyl was solid, but had the same displacement as a V8. I have my 6.7 Cummins 6cyl; again displacement (and diesel). I had a Ford F150 with a 4.6 V8 that couldn't handle hauling horses for more than 2 years before shedding power. I still have a Dodge 1500 with the 5.7 that is just starting to slow down after 17 years of service.

They make peak torque from 1400rpm straight to redline and the depth of your wallet is the only limiting factor in power potential. They just make power everywhere, down low, midrange, up top, if you’re in the right gear you hit the gas and go! An amazing engine. Per some Dodge/Ram mechanics, many repairs, specifically to anything mounted to the rear of the engine, require body off to repair.
Seems like it's a promotional video of Hurricane Engine.
The sound is an important reason why we buy cars and nothing beats a V8 there.
If we are going to spend our money on inline 6 might as well do it on a BMW.
And as it’s been said many times before:
There is no replacement for displacement.
SRT line was the only thing that had me exited. Oh well.
I really don't understand why they dropped the SRT. Lot's of other manufacturer's are still making performance SUV. Never mind I'll stick with my 5.7 hemi.
Of course there is, it’s called forced induction 😂
@fullspeedfordbronco thank you...plus your dropping a considerable amount of weight with the 6 cylinder...
If that’s the case, everyone would have a V10
Or V12, nothing replicates that sound and power either…

I believe it because I had a 1995 F150 with a straight six and the torque was unbelievable! At the time that was one of Ford’s best engines I think.
I'm hearing engineers are saying the rods aren't that strong which will prevent major power increases through tuning
The hurricane is the least satisfying engine to drive in the full size truck segment because it’s a V6 and TFL trucks proved the hurricane is the worst engine in full sized trucks when it comes to MPGs. That’s why people aren’t crazy about the hurricane.

The 3.5 ecoboost is a great engine. I have it in a 3/4 ton cargo van and I love it. Hasn't given me any problems in the past 8 years
@@3644Darrell most of the v6 transits I’ve seen have a NA 3.5 or 3.7, it’s mainly the turbos that cause issues for people
Inline six is nice because it is so well balanced. It has room to get at each side of the engine.
Great question
You buy it, you eat it!🙊🙉🙈💥💨💩
Preach brother!
Do you have to take the body off the frame to replace the hoses or transmission?
I am glad that your positive about the hurricane engine but I have worked for Chrysler and Dodge for almost 20 years and the quality of there products and customer service suck!
How is the quality worse with a better engine
Just as a service to others here, can you tell us what's the worst quality issue with any Chrysler or Dodge? I'm serious, not poking any fun at you....I'd like to avoid some of the products they've sold that you feel are the worst quality wise. TY for answering if you do. Oh, and an FYI, I personally don't like those roller lifters that lose the needle bearings in them and wipe out the cam. But then again, I hate Tritons also, which are Ford as you probably know. And that reminds how many Ecoboost's have giving up the ghost as well as every damn GM LS 5.3 that has engine issues that I've worked on.
the Car Care Nut said that the engine felt "highly stressed" to him? What do you think?
What does Scotty Kilmer think?

hes gonna say the turbos will fail. which is true. its a point of major failure. but not that crazy to replace. comparable to a transmission replacement in price.
He will suggest that Stellantis bring back the 1994 Toyota Celica, and the odometer should start at 240,000 miles🙂
I think Dodge just shot themselves in the foot! We'll see?
I just drove a 2024 Grand Waggoner L with Hurricane engine over 1,200 miles and it was awesome. My gas milage was great for such a large vehicle. Smooth as silk driving. The performance is very deceiving, you know you're in a super large SUV but the performance make you feel like it's a car. We average 21.2 mpg on the highway which was crazy!!! 512 miles to our destination we used 3/4 of a tank and 3/4 tank back home. I'm looking right now to purchase me and my family one.
I don’t care about the engine honestly, I just want them to put it in something *LIGHTWEIGHT*
So true, a dodge dart definitely
Turbo's will fail Turbo's will be expensive. That is a fact
Why didn’t turbos from the 80’s fail. Like the old Supra mark 3.
Superchargers also don't last forever
If you take care of them, they should last a long while. And by then, other things will be breaking
Not if you take care of them. The big thing is to not shut the car right off. Lett it run a minute then turn it off.
It's not a matter of if, it's a matter of when. Taking care of them definitely helps prolong them. But they run red hot and towing with them, driving with spirit, they will fail eventually.
You have no idea what you are talking about!
I drove an enterprise rental wagoneer with the hurricane but the check engine light was on. I was also very surprised at the power delivery but I’m not crazy about all these electrical issues Jeep seems to have.
Agreed
Better in every way? Body off repairs, unproven reliability, no dip stick, carbon buildup from direct injection and likely an overstressed engine.

I'm old. LOL
If he stays in their good graces then maybe he benefits.

It's the Dodge "Barra"! The Mopar "Atlas"! Inline 6's have a legacy of strong performance with basic mods. But in the era of transverse mounted engines, that didn't fly so well.
Well my friend I'm disappointed in what the people who have done to Dodge Challanger an Chargers and with the hemi
Their problem is that they should have showcased that engine in something that'll take advantage of its performance. Throw it in something mustang sized, or bring back a single cab Ram RT.
Should have come out with a new Duster; the poor man's muscle car! I had a 74 Scamp with a 318 that was very fun.
Racer X friend keep up the great work 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸😃😃💪💪👍👍👍
Recently had one as a rental for the weekend, & man it was a fun SUV. That twin turbo 6 surprisingly moves that 6k+ lbs pretty well.
I hate hurricane engines hemis are more better
