QUORUM FOR MEN - CLASSIC POWER FRAGRANCE OF THE 1980's - PRODUCT REVIEW

  • The 1980's were a time of big personalities, brash styles and most certainly power-fragrances that literally assaulted the senses. I can well recall entering the nightclubs of the era to find my nostrils being urgently violated by the likes of Kouros by YSL, Escape by Calvin Klein and most definitely Quorum by Puig.
This is a heady and powerful aromatic citrus fragrance that dominates the room when worn and takes no prisoners in the olfactory department. But, it has its charms it could certainly have a place in your rotation if you enjoy citrus-heavy scents.
I hope you enjoy the review.

Quorum is a powerful cologne, with pedigree and status, it has a solid and strong character; it's a fragrance for those men out there that want to stand out from the crowd and separate them from the boys.
Quorum a cologne with sophistication and status, harsh and rough but with a reputation to put this fragrance as a vivid example of how a man's cologne should smell.

I just started following/watching your channel and you do a great job! I am also a product of the 80s. Two other scents you might want to consider and/or review are Aramis Tuscany Per Uomo (1984) and Azzaro Pour Homme (1978). Both are clean, sharp, citrusy scents that are in the same vein as Quorum but neither is quite as harsh. I’ve been wearing the Tuscany since about 1990. It’s about $50 USD for a 3.4 oz. bottle. Azzaro is about $30 USD.

I was 18 when this came out in the US. But my main frags were azzarro pour homme and Karl Lagerfeld. I only found this one month ago here in Switzerland only because a discounter had it for 20 dollars. It reminds me of a more 70s style. And shares similarities with Paco Rabanne pour homme. Though both are beautiful in their own right. At 57 I just love this.

PPPH was my one and only frag during my secondary school. Then came Quorum to my life and it has been my No. 1 until these days! Brilliant fragrances. I miss the old formulations so much. I keep a little bottle of aftershaves from that era to take some smells of them from time to time, but its passing by is getting a little hard for their beautiful original attributes. Tuscany, Quorum, Obsession, Antaeus & L'eau Dissey; I'm reliving my youth...Quorum changes in notes over the six hours, give it about 20 minutes to calm down and gather itself. I wear it lightly in summer - 2 on the front neck and 1 on the back of the neck, in winter I add 2-3 on the chest, shirt and sports jacket over it, so those dull it down...

I got finally a bottle after a long time hesitation which shouldn't had been as its very cheap. Opening is nice later a bit difficult to like. The reason why I got it is that it's said it reminds one of Polo Green. Maybe only a hint but for my nose still a long shot away. Polo Green for me who likes conifer scents (for, spruce, pine, juniper, thuja etc) is a gem. I am always divided between polo Green and Aramis Classic as my favorite fragrances as of now.

Hey, Ash! Very enjoyable review! I'm very glad that many guys in YT are rediscovering those old fougeres from decades ago. That's the kind of many right ways that real men should smell.
I'm the same age as you and I have never needed many perfumes. just one that do the job was right for me. But, fortunately, I run to the right ones in the right moments. Back in my old secondary school days, since a friend's gift, Paco Rabanne pour Homme was my one and only frag. Then my first girlfriend gave me Quorum as my birthday present and it has been my No. 1 until these days! Brilliant fragrances both.
Although I can't find myself as myself if I cannot get my bottle of Quorum when I run out of it, I really miss the old formulation. I keep a little bottle of aftershaves of each from that era to take some smells of them from time to time, but its passing by is getting a little hard for their beautiful original attributes. In the 80s days, the original formulation was able to stand out in a smokers room, with a slight different sweeter incensely note. Today the only way I can reach a comparable enjoyment with the new formulation is on my chest and clothes when I undress. Other than that it's just a reminiscence of that gorgeous manly blast. Even it's still very enjoyable, it's a shadow that resembles that old glory with some dignity for actual times. At least, as a kind of compensation, Puig was capable of brought us a pair of remarkable flankers, which in different ways, they have the same capability to inebriate with syrupy, woody, spicy, leathery base scents under the clothes that I really enjoy often.
    Keep on rockin'n'reviewin, Ash!
    Greetings from Argentina.

First of all, thank you very much for these reviews. Precise, concise and with classy style. Well done! I've come across your channel looking for a review of Quorum. Spot on, I feel I got all necessary information whether to purchase it or not. Usually, I don't use to subscribe to channels but in your case I did. A rare find among many flashy reviewers. About myself: I've been born in 1970 as well, grown up near the city of Osnabrück in Lower Saxony. In one of your videos you mentioned you've served as army personnel in Goslar (not sure if I captured it well). I've always appreciated the british forces doing service in Germany, a fact I've grown up with, reassuring. Since 2010 I'm living in Norway, so I know that expat feeling. Keep up the good work, kind regards from Scandinavia.

Cheers Andy, I must admit, Quoram had passed me by up until recently, but it is a mighty fragrance for the money and I think it works well in the present era. I have recently gone through a spending spree on old fragrances (I blame lockdown boredom) and have bought 4 or 5 old classics that I have deeply enjoyed re-engaging with. They still smell great and have the added bonus of being mostly quite modest in price - watch out for these reviews over the next few months.

I'm in glory now. Along the last year I could get some vintage formulation bottles from early 2000s and later and earlier 90s. I can swear all of these are a little different from the others. Some show more artemisia and caraway prominent. Some more citrus and tobacco. Others more equalized, But all of them are more intense than the last formulation, and, or course, all oakmoss heaven. I think the only one I haven´t now is the original from the 80s, the real grial. Don`t get me wrong, If what I´ve got are between 8 and 9.50 of ten, the current formulation is a 7 out of 10. It's still a good perfume. The lame oakmoss, the slightly pissy top and a poorer general performance are maybe its weakest flanks.
