In arabic clove is called (قرنفل) and carnation is (زهرة القرنفل) I.e. the flower of clove, which ties in with what you said regarding the clove-like smell of carnation.
Paco Rabanne Pour Homme forever! Great performance even if it’s been reformulated. The honey/vanilla that pops up in the base compliments the oak moss perfectly.
Some scents just never go out of style and some scents, even though dated, smell so good it just doesn’t matter. I own a few of these and have others in my collection that date back to the early 1900’s. They’re fantastic!

I love making digital lists for my Notion account! Kind of like a wish list!
I used to wear Aramis when I got it from my girlfriend on my 17th birthday! I’m 60 now and it is a must in my collection! Those were the days Sebastian! I love your videos! Be well!
Sebastian, thank you! I think the fragrances that mean the most to us are ones we experienced early in our lives. Like you, certain fragrances will always bring my dad to mind in a powerful way: Aramis, especially. Keep going with the classics. I, for one, will always be interested! Remember Zizanie, Nine Flags, Russian Leather? I could go on and on....
I just ordered Dior Jules. I've never smelled it before but it has comparisons to Guerlain Derby, and that's good enough for a blind buy. Oh, and Jules was released in the 1980's so its outside Sebastian's cutoff date.
Bought a 2023 Version of Aramis EdT and it smelled noticeable different compared to my older Version from 2018. Less leathery/mossy and way more spicy/woody but with the same performance.
Hi Sebastien, Your dad was truly an inspiration for who you became!! So wonderful when we smell fragrances that transport us back. I loved the description of Green Water...and just before you mentioned to be unisex now....I siad to myself I can wear this as a woman...because I loooved the notes you mentioned. Anyway....I know that you stopped at 1975, but bummer! My former boss, (Im talking about 25 yeas ago) used to wear Anteaus de Chanel.....wow....I always admired how classy it smelled. Do you like Anteaus? Best regards and again thank you for the great content!!!
Hello great presentation about the houses and contents of perfumes!! Will be greatfull to be explained about perfumes for men with a strong baby powder smell.... please thanks
Great list but where is the king? Paco Rabanne Por Homme. I rock that frag once a week at least, and I have 300 plus fragrances. That and Bois Di Portugal by Creed just scream boss scent at work. The Paco even gets me compliments from girls in their 20’s, young enough to be my daughters. I consider it the very best old school fragrance. My dad and all his brothers wore that and English Leather, which is a reformulated joke of what it was in the 80’s. Paco never sold out and reformulated. It is still an eight hour beast off my skin and it just puts me in a great mood.
Moustache edt is a magnificent powdery lavender and honeyed lemon fragrance. 🍯🌿🍋 The drydown is so darn nostalgic for me. One of the best designer bottles too. I'd take it 10 times out of 10 over the woody ambered edp nowadays. The way they modernized the edtc was brilliant.
Just remember still in existence and selling was the theme of the video not fragrances that are discontinued. Because you cannot currently buy Mouchoir De Monsieur!!
Great video Sebastian 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽Grey Flannel is my SOD . I love classic fragrances they remind me of my dad too ! I have Givenchy Gentleman , and I’m ordering Vetiver Guerlain & Aramis and Paco Rabanne cologne 😎
I think that flower and citrus opening of Floris 89 is amazing. Definitely like that in Habit Rouge but I think better and truly sparkling. I'm a bit less keen on the musky powdery drydown though and prefer Floris Special 127 (89's forerunner launched in 1890!)for that reason
My late 90s bottle of Habit Rouge EDT has lost its lemon, but it still smells amazing and has that slight animalic musk on me. I do like to spritz a decant of the modern edt sometimes with it just to add the lemon 🍋 😊 It’s funny you have switched back to the EDT, as I am thinking of getting a small bottle of the EDP finally, if I can get it in the listerine like bottle.
I have smelled the original in the Osmotheque and it basically has almost no resemblance at all to the modern Fougère Royale. To me, the modern version is way nicer and way more easier to enjoy. The old one i remember being quite sharp / aggressive / rough around the edges
Caron Pour Homme is fairly amazing, it's interesting how it's disappearing from almost all online retailers. I was lucky enough to get a tester of 125 ml for $60 . Now the testers are going for over $100, and the only place to order it from outside of resellers is their website itself. Maybe they are going to the Chanal Antaeus route and only available directly from the manufacturer.
Tried Habit Rouge EDP in the new square packaging. Damn, reformulations hit hard, totally a mere shadow of what I discovered around 2014. Performance is abysmal
thanks brother, you read my mind I was looking for exactly this kind of list! And in my search before watching the video already smelled Givenchy gentleman, Fougere Royale and Caron Pour un Homme but Matin version. Oh and Aramis Aramis the new one, I have it. :) SO yeah. Lets keep the classics going! Oh.. maybe make a list of new fragrances that smell like oldschool fragrances but also maybe perform? 🤔😁
Hi Sebastien, It would love to see a video from you about Linden blossom fragrances🙂 I hope you'll consider filming one.. Until than, I would really appreciate if you could recommend me 2-3 with dominant linden blossom note 😊 Thank you! Hugs from Zagreb, Croatia
I can handle any of those with one exception, gray flannel actually rated is the worst smelling fragrance ever . I’ve probably purchased eau savage more than any of those
Pour Un Homme, The BEST hair perfume for women, can banish, smoke, grease and any other smell on hair, also lasts forever until you shampoo your hair again
Anytime I go into a fragrance store with someone I have them smell it just to see how horrible it smells. Out of all the fragrances I’ve ever smelled. I think it’s probably the worst.
Is it possible for a GREAT, "10/10," classic fragrance to be considered DATED, and therefore, not suitable to be worn in PUBLIC (and yes, I know one can wear "whatever" one wants, but... I wouldn't wear "Secretions Magnifiques" to a PARTY, for example! 😲🤮😆) Yet another example is "Grey Flannel." Recently bought it off a discounter since I'd never owned it (I was a kid during its "heyday"), and yes, that one, unfortunately, smells its AGE. 😳😕

I would guess if you blind tested a number of these fragrances now many people would think they were modern scents
That’s good stuff
Chet Baker wore it. It’s for a youngish man of the world sitting in a sidewalk cafe reading Le Monde through Foster Grants. Top notch.
Eau de Sauvage is one of the fragrances that I'd have if I could only have a handful. Amazing.
Some scents just never go out of style and some scents, even though dated, smell so good it just doesn’t matter. I own a few of these and have others in my collection that date back to the early 1900’s. They’re fantastic!
Another overlooked classic in my opinion is the original pinaud clubman aftershave it’s truly the father of all barbershop fragrances

@@JT-rx1eo Great choice!
Try Halston it’s very much the same than Jules👌
Chanel Antaeus is a super duper classy and masculine scent
Grey flannel is in my collection and Gentleman Givenchy but I think yours is an older version of Gentleman.
Bought a 2023 Version of Aramis EdT and it smelled noticeable different compared to my older Version from 2018. Less leathery/mossy and way more spicy/woody but with the same performance.

I can't wait for your review of Habit Rouge Rouge Privé, I think you will like it.
Thank you for putting this together. I've seen a few of these from other reviewers. I'm new to this and have only smelled/bought today's fragrances.

Hi for me I prefer Fougère Royale Houbigant than Pour un homme de Caron
No Chanel Pour Monsieur 1955???? Such a beautiful piece.
Yeah it's a great scent.
What a great idea for a video. Thanks! 😎
Guerlain's first fragrance is Mouchoir De Monsieur.
Just remember still in existence and selling was the theme of the video not fragrances that are discontinued. Because you cannot currently buy Mouchoir De Monsieur!!

Reputedly worn by Fleming. Ian Fleming.
@@danielschaeffer1294 wasn't Fleming an 89 wearer?
@@jonstern7511 Yup. That’s what I was referring to.

Exactly the same in my case. Special n° 127 is so classy. And it performs and lasts in my skin.
Great video! I missed Armani Eau Pour Homme. What a perfume!
Yes! Unfortunately, it has been discontinued (at least here in the USA).
My late 90s bottle of Habit Rouge EDT has lost its lemon, but it still smells amazing and has that slight animalic musk on me. I do like to spritz a decant of the modern edt sometimes with it just to add the lemon 🍋 😊

Your first pick has no longevity but smells amazing 🤩

Do you have any recommendations for gardenia fragrances? It has been my favorite smelling flower since I was a child
My stepdad uses Grey Flannel.😊
My favorite is Ralph Lauren red rush
I never got to sample Red Rush sadly.
@@ThePerfumeGuy consider getting some it ain't bad
Bogart edt is missing. It's fantastic!

JHL by Aramis started my fragrance journey in the 80s...
Oh it's a dad fragrance. I remember him wearing it.
The new Guerlain Vetiver in the new bottle is ruined by reformulation.
Can you make a video about gentlemen fragrances for summer ( only luxurious ones )
Oh i want the new one tabac nomade👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽💯🔥
I picked up Pour un Homme de Caron a few weeks ago at fragrancebuy. They sold out pretty quickly.
Oh awesome.
Yes you are correct sir
I’m only missing Dunhill and Rochas from your list.
I love Aramis. Is Givenchy 1975 still made?
It sure is it still sells it’s amazing!!
@@ThePerfumeGuy Yes I have so many memories with it. May I kindly ask you for a link to where I can buy it? Thank you!
I can buy Dubhill for men for euro 18,- in Germany. Going to get it right away.
Caron Pour un Homme is amazing.
Boss no 1 is lovelg aswell

I think Moustache 1949 is an absolut nightmare. Maybe it's the result of tests on chemical weapon during WWII 🤷♂?
IMO the EDP is much better ...............
Go figure. I own every fragrance on this list :)
Grey flannel smells exactly like a urinal cake to me! I couldnt wear it
Anytime I go into a fragrance store with someone I have them smell it just to see how horrible it smells. Out of all the fragrances I’ve ever smelled. I think it’s probably the worst.
4711 dates back to the 1700s!
In those days fragrances had to overcome the omnous cigarrette smell of everyone... very pungent... got to be very strong
👍
Sorry but theres alot of cologne snobery going on in this video. Wheres Old Spice? Is it too cheap? Its classic and its historic.
👍👍👍👍

Yep, these sound totally masculine. So, pass.
