'Something of the night.' If I remember rightly Anne Widdecombe used that same phrase to describe Michael Howard. I suspect I'd like Eucris far more than either of those two!
Thank you for flying the flag of the unapologetic 80's powerhouse with mentioning Quorum. Personally, I would choose this over Sauvage any day of the week ;) And you are so right about Eucris. It's such a brooding heavy hitter, the blackcurrant gives it such a hefty melancholic aura, that I really need to be at my best in the morning to bear it's slightly unsettling character. This side of Eucris is not often mentioned, so I'm glad I'm not the only one feeling that way about it. When it comes to No. 89, I would only like to add that it's a chypre at heart. The floral core of it really makes the difference. Great video as always, Ash!
Great to hear from another Eucris user, we are a rare breed. I can only muster the strength and confidence to wear it occasionally. It just requires such bravado and moral fortitude to carry off in normal daily life!
Floris Santal is another modern gentleman's classic, once the fresh opening fades, it's wonderfully smooth, soapy, warm and spiced. Subtle. You should give it a sample!
First time I wore Aramis was as a young youth travelling abroad. I still wear it from time to time. Though I'm much older now. Never failed to take me back to those good old days.
Very good selection, Aramis is a truly masterpiece by one of the greatest perfumers of all times, Bernard Chant. My choices this autumn/winter: - for daily office I wear Aramis, Drakkar Noir and classic Eau Sauvage EdT by Dior (the greatest citrus in the history of perfumery); - for evenings and formal occasions like weddings and concerts I prefer something more fancy, in my case Fougere Royale by Houbigant (quintessential, ultimate and eponymic fougere fragrance from 1882) and Opium pour Homme by Yves Saint-Laurent (beautiful blackcurrant and vanilla scent).
Thanks for drawing my attention to "QUORUM" about a year ago. It's cheap. But it's powerful, it's masculine and it's long-lasting - so use it sparingly. But it's a great scent for evening wear.
Quorum is amazing. The orgy of wood, leather and Latakia tobacco notes are just what Connery would wear to go with the three-piece glen plaid he wore in “Goldfinger.” I have a theory about Dunhill For Men. I suspect they wanted a British version of Knize Ten, so they simply added a strong rose note. And look into Yatagan, by Caron. A snarling patchouli, pine, leather and castoreum scent. It’s not “deep” because it has no wood or moss notes, but it makes me feel like Clint Eastwood announcing “Go ahead. Make my day.”
Great list, Floris 89 is floral woody aromatic scent I mostly wear in summer, my top favorite in this list is Quorum the tobacco note is fabulous, a potent Polo green perhaps. Cerruti signature and Bentley Intense can also be added to this list, wel there are so many but remaining under $30 always helps :) , great video, cheers!
Quorum and Aramis, two of the colognes I wear the most, for all seasons and any time of the day; but I love also Yatagan and Givenchy Gentleman (original) only that these two are a bit more expensive so I stick to Aramis and Quorum. but if I am skint then I will go all-time for Agua Brava and Brummel (Puig house) as they are the cheapest of the bunch but I love them as they fit my character and also for the price (Agua Brava EDC 500 ml splash £27 pounds and Brumme EDC 500 ml splash £15 pounds) hardy any other cologne will win against these two magnificent and manly fragrances.
I bought Quorum ready for the winter months after watching your review. All you say about it is true, it is now the firm favourite in my collection. Thanks Ash..
Good vid Ash. In the 80s and 90s I used Grey Flannel, Quorum, Xyerus, Eau Savage and Pi. I now use Gentleman by Givenchy and will try Aramis at Christmas. Chris
As i was watching this today i opened a gift of Quorum from my lady! Kind of reminds me of my dads slazenger when i was young. I am letting it settle in on my skin and will be wearing this for work for sure over the winter months. Christmas day today and my Cefiro, ehich i bought on a visit to the floris shop 2wks ago, is coming out. Thanks Ash for the advice. Merry Christmas!
Great advice as always Ash, I was in the market for a new cologne so after watching your video I took my self of into town and picked up a bottle of the Dior. Heavy hitter is a bit of a understatement, wow it's strong. One press of the top is more than enough for the day👍
Perfect choices sir. Now that it is getting really cold here in sweden i am cycling between eucris aramis and mandate. All perfect for the cold weather in my opinion. /Gustaf
Excellent review Ash, I love your suggestions, Such classic scents. I would like to make a suggestion for you if I may, Have you tried Habit rouge from Guerlain? It fits in with the old school classic fragrances from yesteryear, Such a sophisticated classy smell. I'm sure the likes of Cary Grant or David Niven would have had it as a signature scent, Give it a try my friend, I'm sure you will love it. Good luck Ash keep up the great work.
I tried Aramis when I was much younger, and found it too strong. I suspect I should try it again now I'm in my 50s - especially as Eucris particularly is a firm favourite (I must be a Bond Baddie), and Quorum seems to be almost a daily splash now that the nights are drawing in. I guess the stronger fragrances are now much better suited to my skin chemistry.
Aramis and Dunhill are in my collection. I like Cacharel pour homme as well and puts me always in a good mood. One of my all time favourites is Polo Green. Love it. I will purchase as next Quorum. So curious about it. How would you compare Quorum to Devin?
Quorum has a lesather-like dry down and has more zest and power than Devin. Quoran is a statement scent and good for evening wear. Devin is more calm and day-time for me.
My wife bought Sauvage for me a couple of Christmases ago and we like the fragrance. It is unfortunate that Johnny Depp is featured in their television ads. I like that the cap is magnetic and snaps onto the bottle. Thanks for this video. I enjoy your channel. :-)
Dear Mr Ash, I am currently torn between Bleu de Chanel EDP and Dior Sauvage EDP….from these two which would you recommend for the discerning gentleman chap? I have seen you also like many of Chanel fragrances but here talk highly of Dior’s Sauvage.
I would personally opt for Dior Sauvage, it is just so classically elegant. But its all rather subjective - select what brings you the greatest joy sir!
and as we talk about fragrances, I'd like to know if by chance you have used "Boots Freshwood aftershave balm", as it's a very cheap aftershave balm but it does the job (calming, refreshing, hydrating, shooting and revitalizing your skin after a shave) and the scent ain't too strong (kind of spicy and woody) so it mixes well with Aramis, Agua Brava and Brummel as it shares some similarities with these fragrances and won't crash with them when using it together.
I do have a bottle of the aftershave splash, but the balm has eluded me for a while now. I love the fragrance but the balm is hard to find, but I am on the hunt for it!
The old and orginial are often the best and as not the latest release, can often be found at reasonable prices i like the first 4, but the last 2 are not for me How do you find the self life of fragrance keeping so many on the go?
All my fragrances are stored in a wooden draw and away from heat and UV (sunlight). I have bottles that are over 10-years old in the collection and they have not appreciably deteriorated at all.
Good evening Ash and the Chap assembly. I find myself revisiting this video for "reasons" I am not, nor have i ever been one for fragrances of any kind. Sometimes a simple fragrance, a simple metaphor can unlock something. It can unlock hope or possibility, or some sense of a way forward.
Floris Santal is another modern gentleman's classic, once the fresh opening fades, it's wonderfully smooth, soapy, warm and spiced. Subtle. You should give it a sample!
Try Proraso Spice and Wood cologne. Around $27 US.
First time I wore Aramis was as a young youth travelling abroad. I still wear it from time to time. Though I'm much older now. Never failed to take me back to those good old days.
ive got alot of colognes...but Quorum is still a total standout after all these years. no doubt, one of the best
Great selection, I would add ‘Old Spice’, the fragrance of choice for all dapper uncles!
What about Brut 33, Tabac, Hi Karate et al?
@@e-remes7029 great selection. I still use Tabac to this day.
Usual top notch video sir...Dunhill for men is legendary.. Love the stuff..
Quorum is seriously my favorite cologne. My dad wore that and Aramis when I was a kid, and I wear it now.
Roger & Gallet's Open deserves a place on this list. It smells like a tobacconist's humidor ànd best of all, it's as cheap as chips!
Very good selection, Aramis is a truly masterpiece by one of the greatest perfumers of all times, Bernard Chant.

You have great taste. Some outstanding selections there.
I always think of actor Peter O’Toole when I smell Aramis. Don’t know if he ever wore the stuff.
I've worn Aramis since 1975!!!!!
Thanks for drawing my attention to "QUORUM" about a year ago. It's cheap. But it's powerful, it's masculine and it's long-lasting - so use it sparingly. But it's a great scent for evening wear.

I bought Quorum ready for the winter months after watching your review. All you say about it is true, it is now the firm favourite in my collection. Thanks Ash..
I think I'll wear some tomorrow, I'm wear another 80's classic today, Drakkar Noir.
Good vid Ash. In the 80s and 90s I used Grey Flannel, Quorum, Xyerus, Eau Savage and Pi. I now use Gentleman by Givenchy and will try Aramis at Christmas.
Chris
Some great classics in that brunch - still worth wearing today!
Great list. I would have all these with the addition of Havana by Aramis and Encre Noir Sport. Thanks Ash
Hello Ash.
Another very informative video.
When I think how much I've spent on rubbish!
Ash you are an ideal presenter.
Great list Ash…I would add Lagerfeld Classic to it ❤
Great selection of fragrances. Some of my favourites.

Smelling great on the big day. I'm wearing Egoiste (Chanel) today. It sort of embodies the day for me.
lovely list.I would also,if I may,add Alain Delon Plus and Furyo,by J. Bogart
Thanks for going over these selections....looking for a new Winter Cologne.
Ash great review have you tried Viktor & Rolf Spicebomb extreme ,excellent winter fragrance and you'll smell like Christmas
Not tried that yet. I’ll look it up. Thank you.

Outstanding choices!
Next summer buy a bottle of Nikos Scupture it only 15 pounds but the smell it about 150 pounds
A great video, loved your review of the fragrances, I'm going to try Floris 89 on your recommendation🙂
Hope you enjoy it!
Thanks for the quick response. SUBSCRIBED!

The modern-day Aramis is less 'throaty' than its earlier predecessor. I'm wearing Eucris today - I must be a villain too!
I am 36 and own Aramis (and many other from the Aramis line) and i think its a great fragrance. Lovely for a few in the pub on a Friday evening 🙂

It is certainly a good powerful scent, I think it will be the classic of the era that stands the test of time.
Quorum all year long....

I would pay good money to see you wearing an actual aloha shirt hahahhaha. Great fragrance roundup!
Geo Trumper
Ash I have been using quorum Silver Like it very much. Is that Dunhill Edition? Thanks for the Video. Cheers Ron
No, that is Dunhill for Men, a different frag from the same house - still super cheap.
Bought my usual Aramis the other day and was disappointed that it was nowhere near as “strong” as it used to be. Anyone else had this problem?
Have you tried guarlian heritidge EDT spray 👍 fantastic tuff
I will check it out
Have you tried sauvage elixir or eau sauvage parfum?
No sir. I am not a huge fan of Sauvage TBH
Eucris: smells like a wood fire that’s been extinguished with Pernod. Not for me.
Good evening Ash and the Chap assembly.
