I was told by someone who works in the industry that the reason a lot of the older powerhouse fragrances were so loud was because everyone smoked and it had to cut through.
There was a lot of smoke in clubs and restaurants back then. Even if you sat in a non-smoking section it was pretty useless because hey smoke drifts…….
Very probably, to a great extent. Some of these mofos mix very nicely with tobacco smoke: Santos Concentree, Paco Rabanne, Quorum, Lapidus, Polo, One Man Show
I really appreciate the time you take to review some of these 80’s and 90’s classics. Especially for those of us who are trying to grow our collection sizes, these reviews are crucial. I don’t give a flying f if these fragrances are considered “dated” by the masses of opinionated commentators on all the sites. A classic is a classic. I appreciate the work you’ve put into educating us all on these gone but not forgotten fragrances. Bravo.
Just ordered this today based off the reviews and hoping to enjoy it I can’t seem to add a new comment for whatever reason but no lol I do not enjoy it.
@@Palaniappan.7837 I would absolutely NOT recommend it lol. Older man type of scent with a very cigarette forward tobacco smell in it. Not for me what so ever.
Bro, I'm totally discovering the Vintage scents for the first time and loving them. I'm so sick of the fruity, blue freshie frags and these vintage powerhouses smell amazing to me. I'm going to start collecting all vintage stuff as much as I can.
I started wearing this in 1983 right out of HS. I worked at a restaurant that turned into a dance club after midnight. I would get so many girls asking me what I am wearing, and as the night went on... girls would start getting more bold about complimenting me on it..... so getting all this attention was very welcoming! I still wear it today and get compliments!
I have in my collection around 60 men perfumes(some of them YSL Y, Armani stronger with you, Nautica voyage, Dunhill desire extreme, Diesel only the brave tattoo, Armaf club de nuit, Versace dreamer etc.) and this hidden gem is my favorite of all!It has everything and it comes in a price of...peanuts!!!!
This was my signature frag in high school and yes, it was released in 1981 here in Canada as I got it as a birthday gift in November 81 when I was in grade 10. Don't wear it as much these days with a few hundred other frags in my collection but I make sure that I wear this a few times a year. I still have an oooooold Avon Wild Country bottle from the 70s I'll get out very rarely too but my PRIZED OG vintage is the bottle of 1972 Old Spice that used to be my great grandfather's. Smells better than Creed Viking LOL
I wore Quorum in the 1980's and wasn't that crazy about it. I haven't smelled the latest version, though. I loved Grey Flannel (lasted all day back then). Polo Green was just called Polo and was terrific. The current version is an abomination. I didn't wear Lagerfeld until recently but I was a fan of Lagerfeld Photo in the early 1990's. Aramis was my latter part of the 1970's college scent and I still love it today. One you left out that was parfum strength when it came out in 1986 (even though it was just called a cologne) was Obsession by Calvin Klein. It was a powerhouse. The closest thing in strength to the original men's version is today's edp for women. Paul Sebastian was and still is a very strong contender. Probably the top club scent back then was Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. Today's version isn't close to it in strength. Don't forget Giorgio for Men by Giorgio of Beverly Hills. That made Quorum smell like a fleeting can of air freshener.
I bought this cause it’s the closest to Polo (green) according to fragrantica. So far best Polo (green) imitations for me have been: 1. Classic match, 2. Beverly Hills club rogue and Arnan supremacy green (strongest and most expensive) Looking forward to wearing this one
Hi from Australia. 53 now, been into collecting since I was 15. I still get complements from this bad boy along with many other great old school fragrances especially Azzaro PH, Oscar DL, Versace , and many more.
Was at Ross when I saw this bottle, pulled up the name, your video came up and I snagged it.. I'm 59 yrs old, it's right up my ally. Just hope I can wait till winter to use it.. love it.. haha.
Wow , just got this gem in today after watching your review. The pine and woods smell great and although it doesn’t work as well in public this has been great to wear at home, thx Ash great frag
I wore this all the time in fall and winter back in the 90's. It was awesome and my girlfriend just wanted to curl up inside my long wool coat on chilly nights standing in line to get in the club. :)
Everyone under 30 seems to hate this fragrance but I love it. Maybe its because my favourite uncle whod always sneak a 50 into my jacket at family reunions used to wear it
Just got a bottle for 19 bucks. Sprayed it and was instantly transported back to the seventies even though it came out in 82. I recognize this juice even though I never owned it. Man! I've finally embraced my age and accepted that I love this juice as well as Paco Rabane Pour Homme. I think the cinnamon and the citrus balances it out quite well. Its harsher than Paco but still so amazing. Imagine what the original was like 👍. A true beast im sure . Can't wait to wear it around my daughter to annoy her.
Hey Ash, I’m a sucker for these classic fragrances, and Quorum is no exception. Polo Green, Grey Flannel, Elizabeth Arden Sandalwood, Avon Wild Country, etc. All of these, despite how people feel about them, are revolutionary fragrances in their own right. Thanks for the viddy, Ash! 💪👍
OK Brother... Next 80's Big time Frag. Calvin Klein Obsession for Men. 1986. DOOOOO EEEEETTT!!!! Love these reviews.. I am old enough to remember many of these.. Drakkar was my jam back in the day... Loved that juice.. Gotta pick it up again, if only for nostalgia. Thanks man!!
When Obsession first came out, it was listed as a "cologne" but it was as powerful as a woman's parfum. It lasted well into the night and early morning on me. It was go to date scent back in the 1980's and the closest thing to that strength today is the woman's edp version of Obsession. It's very, very close to the male version.
Just want to say quorum is a remarkable fragrance and is timeless some things don't change id wear quorum anytime anywhere and something like 15 or 20 dollars a bottle its incredible value thanks for sharing 👍

I still have a bottle of the original formulation on this one, and man, it's a killer in projection and performance! Yeah, I'm sure I can literally choke someone out sitting right next to me.
I found one of the originals in my house, full bottle, from the 90s. It smelled a bit dated but I grew to really like it. Reminds me of a leathery smoking room for mafia men. But it reacts differently on clothes than skin.
I got my first bottle almost 30 years ago, it was quite affordable then, and I loved the smell then, However, soon it was not available in where I live, probably because it is not profitable enough for the shops to carry it, I got another bottle recently and it smells quite the same as I remembered, maybe the caraway is a bit more prominent then I remembered. still love it, and I am also in the age of wearing this kind of old man fragrance now.
When I first smelled this I was instantly reminded of the opening day of the deer hunt when I sat on a leather sofa waiting for my parents and their friends to finish their coffee and cigarrettes. Oddly enough that was a fond memory.
The cheap atomizer on the Quorum bottle is similar to the current bottles of Chrome Legend with the generic cap. Chrome Legend was discontinued nearly a decade ago and Azzaro reps have told me they have no idea where the bottles are coming from. That was when Clarins owned the brand. Maybe L'Oreal reps will have better luck!
I blind bought this for $14. Heard it was long lasting with great projection which it definitely is...... but it took me back to the 90s and my grandad. I had no idea that's the scent he wore but I instantly remembered it. In my opinion this isn't for anyone in their 20s or maybe even 30s, no woman will like this scent on a young man. I also found it very soapy like imperial leather
If your teenage years were in the 80’s, which mine were, quorum was in the rotation. The classic was polo green, drakkar, and quorum. Pacco Rabanne and gray flannel may have taken a turn as well. Aramas would have come into the rotation in the late 80’s.
My mother was furious at me for buying this when I was in grade 10 in 82. She was a part-time Avon lady at the time. Aramis, Grey Flannel and Eau Sauvage for dressing up all in there too.
"You can go with spraying it on your clothes and it wil stay there forever untill you wash your shirt.." We hear this all the times. Does a scent last way shorter on tour skin because your body aborbs the chemicals in a scent? That's a nasty thought and makes me want to only spray my fragrances on my clothes..
I actually got my dad drakkar noir for Christmas because when he went into college that’s all he could afford and wore it all through college, when he opened it and sprayed it he was so disappointed because it smelled nothing like how it used to 😂
How old is your dad? If he was wearing this stuff in the 80s or 90s, it wasn’t cheap at all. So, “all you can afford” it was just as expensive as anything else and there was no such thing as a fragrance discounter.
The first designer fragrance my Mum bought me back in 86/87. Recently bought a bottle of the Aftershave. 100ml for £8, for a trip down memory lane. Still a 80s classic.
Yep, one of the first fragrances I wore regularly in the early 90s. I bought a 50ml a few years ago for 8%7.99 NZD (that is about %5 USD. Fantastic value for money. All ny teenage memories in one sniff
I respect it, but I think the green leathery soapyness smells very dated. It is quite similar to other fragrances of the late 70s, early 80s like Dior Jules or Halston Z14. I much prefer Hermes Bel Ami or Caron Le 3e Homme as they are Vetiver based and very easily pulled off today.
I stiil have two (Jill Sander For Men, Aigner Sports) bottles of my own fragrances from the mid eightees left, about half full. Splash bottles, which can be closed real tight. The Power of these old ones is amazing and throws a bad light on all modern stuff in this regard. And they are still perfect after 35 years!
Great review! This I believe is one of the first fragrances I ever used. My father wore it, so then my brother and me as well. Incidentally I do have one now, given that it's so affordable, got one recently for nostalgia´s sake adding it to another purchase :) From memory, smells very much the same as back then to me: a strong cigarette wibe to its dry-down. In fact almost like a loaded ashtray sort of wibe, even smelling the cap you can see that part: so an ashtray, but with some suede leather, and green/woodie touches along them. Something like that. Somewhat animalic to me also. From back then, Quorum times, also Drakkar Noir, and Azzaro. Might get a Drakkar Noir as well at some point. Already got a little free tester for Azzaro, so not getting that one at least for now.
Today I bought Quorum Antonio Puig for men ..100ml Aftershave / 100ml edit gift box unopened for £14.99 here in the UK .. It doesn't seen to last more than 6 hours now .. but it still smells the same as my original bottle from 2008 .. date on this box 2003 .. 🤔🤔
Great video and love the shades. Should of included a modern version of this scent that give a similar feel. Also, would love to see a video where you just pick a shelf and let us know what on there and a brief description thanks
I remember when I was in college, I went to the drugstore and got both Pino Silvestre and Quorum. I wore Quorum out one night... It was like three girls and three of us guys. I got attention from two of the girls. One of them said "All guys wear the same sorts of colognes. You smell different, it's really nice." This was the mid-2000s, so it was the age of Acqua di Gio, Issey Miyake, and innumerable Nautica Blue whatevers. Quorum was NOT that.😂 I guess the girls were tired of all the guys smelling the same.
I’ll rock it in some slacks and a tie. $11.00. Nobody remembers it. Unless dad had some. All the cool kids wore chaps ,Stetson, polo, Sante Fe or Obession. 😂
I never wore Quorum although I was certainly aware of it and smelled it on other guys. My signature scent of the early '80s was the beast of beasts: Kouros.
I enjoyed Kouros back then but I preferred Obsession, Paul Sebastian, Chanel Pour Monsieur and Paco Rabanne Pour Homme. One that I really miss was Pierre Cardin Musk.
Old becomes new. If these fragrances didnt exist, and were made now, theyd get raved about. But BECAUSE they were around before, they get the "dated" tag.
I was told by someone who works in the industry that the reason a lot of the older powerhouse fragrances were so loud was because everyone smoked and it had to cut through.
Makes sense. All my dads business partners back then smoked. And I could still pick out their fragrances.
There was a lot of smoke in clubs and restaurants back then. Even if you sat in a non-smoking section it was pretty useless because hey smoke drifts…….

Vintage Polo Green and King Kouros were absolutely nuclear with Quorum not to far behind. I wore all three back in the 80's.
Love the old scents. The new scents are so sweet, they should come with a syringe of insulin (cue laugh track).
New scents are all the same... vanilla, amber, citrus. Fresh and sport, weak longevity and projection.

I have worn this since the 80's. None better. The original formula seemed to have more layers and lasted longer.
Great video and love the shades. Should of included a modern version of this scent that give a similar feel. Also, would love to see a video where you just pick a shelf and let us know what on there and a brief description thanks
I had this along with Drakkar and Halston z14 in high school and soon afterwards.
*Gave it shot...not for me. Gave it to my pops and HE LOVES IT and I do enjoy how it comes off of him.* 👍🏼
What made you not liking it? Thinking about purchasing it myself
also available in an epic gift set for approximately $20 on discounters...
Great review and I enjoyed it and I'm gonna try it have a blessed day
Might get this my next cheapie haul
Totally awesome review Ash! Rad to the max!
Dude the lights reflection on your sun glasses 😂😂🤣🤣
I remember when I was in college, I went to the drugstore and got both Pino Silvestre and Quorum. I wore Quorum out one night... It was like three girls and three of us guys. I got attention from two of the girls. One of them said "All guys wear the same sorts of colognes. You smell different, it's really nice." This was the mid-2000s, so it was the age of Acqua di Gio, Issey Miyake, and innumerable Nautica Blue whatevers. Quorum was NOT that.😂 I guess the girls were tired of all the guys smelling the same.
Zippo caps are cool end of. Fancy closing and opening possible 🤘
great review
Your the best man I watch you all day everyday in this quarantine, keep it up please 🙏🏽
That one Quorum is one of the "butch" fragrances. Thanks for the review 👍👍👍
I’ll rock it in some slacks and a tie. $11.00. Nobody remembers it. Unless dad had some. All the cool kids wore chaps ,Stetson, polo, Sante Fe or Obession. 😂
Review aspen by coty please.
Do Preferred Stock
Old becomes new. If these fragrances didnt exist, and were made now, theyd get raved about. But BECAUSE they were around before, they get the "dated" tag.
