If you wanna stand out from the crowd you gotta go with the classics. Fahrenheit is one of a kind. There’s a reason it still sells today and at premium prices. One of my all time favourites.
80s baby right here. Drakkar Noir reminds me of my dad for some reason. He may have worn that or something else with similar notes. Love the way it smells, too!
Man, the first half of this list was nostalgic! My grandfather and uncle wore and loved Korous, my dad loved Drakkar and I, along with everyone in middle & high-school, wore Cool Water and Fahrenheit! Great list
Just tried Antaeu s for the first time today and compared it to Aramis. Side by side. Chanel is better hands down. Such a gem. I'll be buying it for Christmas.
I am still loving Davidoff cool water to this day, don’t care what anyone says , I get compliments more now than ever before because it’s not as common now as it used to be so it stands out now 👍🏻 . Always keep one in your set guys .
Great video. Grew up in the 80s Drakkar noir was the first fragrance i owned. I think the designer frags back then were much more daring than they are today. Designers today play it too safe with their releases. Anyway, great list man. Cheers.
Brilliant! Oh the memories! Grew up in the 80s and started my interest in fragrance. Gosh too many to mention. From your list Obsession for sure. Eternity a little later but brilliant too. Grey Flannel, agree to that too. Armani Homme..the list goes on. As do the memories... Thank you. Excellent review. Cannot wait for Part 2 and a 90s revival.
Awesome list! Haven't dared to buy Drakkar Noir yet, but I guess it's inevitable.... For me the Classic Van Gils is also one of the most prominent 80's scents
I started wearing fragrances in 84. Obsession, Drakkar and Fahrenheit are definitely my 3 favorite fragrances from the 80’s. Although RL Polo from 78 was my favorite fragrance to wear then.
I actually nabbed a bottle of boss number one and I absolutely adore it. It came out when I wasn't even remotely alive yet. It's really a favorite of mine now and benefit is that my wife loves it too. In fact, she liked it well before I did but it grew on me. Wife and I are in our 20s so maybe our friends don't, but we do 😂.
Cool Water is a timeless classic. And Obsession is definitely an underrated fragrance. I love old school scents, bit I think I'm more familiar with ones from the early 90s.

Glad you included Boss Number One, one of my favourite scents, such a powerhouse! I feel like I would wear it more if it was more of a crowd pleaser. Well my grandma likes it haha! I have worn it often though because I like it and it gives sort of confidence boost, power baby yes.
I would have been surprised and utterly disappointed if Drakkar Noir wasn't featured as the first fragrance :D long live Drakkar Noir!!! Great list, Drakkar+Antaeus+Fahrenheit is my 80s power trio. I think Quorum would have deserved a spot on the list. Another historic list video would be amazing, maybe exploring stuff from the 50s to 70s ;)
The two I owned back in the day (early 90s for me) were Drakkar and Calvin. Still love wearing them. I didn’t smell Zino until last year but it’s amazing.
Obsession is the wife's favorite scent. I was always down with Cool Water, and Drakkar was my go to in High School. I wore that completely out. I'm trying Boss #1 and Versace Homme next. I like rocking old school scents every so often, like Quorum and Aramis, which I have the original, the special blend and the tobacco blend. Love the old school vibe.
First of all, the 80s were great! The most prominent fragrances that I remember being worn were Polo (late 70s release, I know), Drakkar, Cool Water, and, believe it or not, Brut. I fell into the Polo and Cool Water groups. I miss those times…..
Old AF frag guy here. Lol. I 2nd your adds big time! I was actually in middle school and HS in the 80s. Can't also forget Brut, Pierre Cardin, Paco Robanne Pour Homme. There was an Old Spice by Night too. Lol. My P Dropper was Calvin by Calvin Klein!!
@@joe19912 nice man!! I had an uncle that put me onto Z14...loved it but I always thought was too mature for me at the time but u are sooo right! Unique and ultra manly scent. I can actually smell it writing and thinking about it!
Thank you for your list. My first fragrance in the 80s was actually Drakkar! I think with Cool Water, it is hard to understand the influence when it came out. There was an enormous advertising campaign. When I first smelled it, I was blown away. I totally agree with your comments on Kouros and Zino. Did you ever try Verruti 1881?
Great video Ash! Drakkar, Obsession, and Zino are classics for a reason. They’ve been awesome since they were released 40ish years ago. That’s amazing! Be well, Ash. 👍
Lol, I wore most of those ( especially Drakkar when I joined the Navy). In 1988 I bought Fahrenheit and Cool Water and Joop! in '89. I have been a fragrance guy since I first wore Grey Flannel, Lagerfeld, Paco Rabanne, and Polo green in the 70's. A couple of other 80's colognes I wore a whole lot were Giorgio Beverly Hills Men and Lapidus Pour Homme, Estee Lauder for men, Bijan, Ceasars man and Aramis by Aramis. Thank for bringing back wonderful memories Sir!
I started wearing Obsessions since 2002. Just switched to Dior Sauvage for a month. Now I am thinking of switching to Bleu De Chanel (EDP) for life. The one brand that all fragrance experts (including you of course) agreed to be great. You put it in your S tier. I am just gonna buy Bleu De Chanel blindly (5 ounce) and hopefully stay another 20 years loyal haha
I was going to say the scent I wore the other day was an 80's scent but when I looked it up, it had came out in 1975. Two years before I was born. That scent was Grey Flannel. I know, I know it's not "popular" nowadays but I still like it. 🤷🏿♂️ Anyway, 2 ACTUAL 80's releases that I love and still own are Obsession and Sung Homme. One of my uncle's used to wear Obsession when I was a kid. When I was older it was one of the first fragrances that I bought. So it has sentimental meaning to me. And Sung Homme, who doesn't like Sung Homme? I know Mugler cologne is said to be the quintessential soapy fragrance. Yeah, yeah, but Sung Homme is Irish Spring in a bottle. Straight up. I rocks with Sung Homme to this day!
Geoffrey Beene gets no love from the youtubers... Bowling Green and Grey Flannel were both excellent. Ash you gotta give props to both of those sometime
Nice selection 👍 I'm from 1967 and the eighties are my decade 😎 I know and love all of your picks. Especially Fahrenheit, Cool Water, Zino and Joop. We have take a shower with Joop back in the eighties before clubbing 🤣 and for me it's also today a time travel back to my youth 🥰👍 They all nice today but...I also know the vintage versions, and actual ones... they mostly just a shadow of their "brothers" back in the eighties 🤷🏻♂️ But hey, better the reformulate Version of today...than nothing 😉 Btw... I'm happy you're pronouncing the German "Joop" correct 😉👍
Strong list, i never got my nose on Fahrenheit even though i have smelled hundreds and hundreds of fragrances in my lifetime. And i picked up Zino a couple of months ago and it is indeed a very nice scent. I used to rock Gambler & Tamerisk as a teenager, yeah!
Exceptional work, Ashton. Nevertheless you cannot exclude Polo.... The Eighties gods were so powerful some arrived a bit early! The greatest men's fragrance of all however was RL Monogram. Nothing since is close.
Polo (Green) should have been on this list. I know it came out in '78, but it was big in the '80s. It smelled fantastic, and girls loved it. I'm a fairly credible source since I graduated high school in 1984.
I enjoyed this video! I'm an 80's dude 😁 My favorite was Drakkar Noir, Obsession and Bene'! Appreciate the trip down memory lane! I also like Cool Water and still wear it today! I wore Pollo in the green bottle, but I think it came out in late 70's.
Thank you very much for this list of fantastic fragrances! This took me back when I was in high school and couldn't afford them then; now that I'm older, I can afford them and appreciate them again. Fahrenheit was My signature fragrance, and I'm so glad Dior still makes it. And the intriguing surprise at the end when you compared Zino to Beau de Jour! Thanks for helping me save some money! That would actually be a great idea, now that I think about it; How about doing a video of fragrances that smell similar to each other?
Wish I had all the money I spent on Drakkar Noir back in high school and college, didn't help that I had no concept of "less is more" and just about bathed in the stuff and went through a bottle a month.
Hugo Boss Boss Number One 👍 still have some of my vintage bottle left ... and Stetson Cologne. I also wore some older fragrances, Polo Green, Paco Rabanne Pour Homme from the 70's and SIR 4711 Canada Cedar - my buddy wore Drakkar Noir.
If (When) you do a 90’s version of this list, please add Ralph Lauren Safari to that list. It pulled me tons of unsolicited compliments back in the day! Also, Clinique Happy as well.
I have been wearing fragrances since 1985. My girlfriend, fiancee, wife. (The same person for almost 40 years.) Here is her list for me that she loves...From 85 till today Ralph Lauren - Original Polo Green Obsession Eternity for men Drakkar Noir Bvulgari - Wood Essence C. H. - Bad Boy EDT She is fragrance "sensitive" the wrong ones give her headaches so she chooses...looks like she has chosen well over the years.
Fahrenheit was the first smelly I ever owned. My dad was doing a job for a well-to-do guy and he gave it to him because his girlfriend didn't like it. My dad is more Aramis, Eternity, Red etc so Fahrenheit wasn't for him. So he gave it to me at the age of 16 and boy did I get some action through my late teens and twenties with it! I will always own a bottle of the stuff!
I love and have most of these classics. However no Lagerfeld? You are so right about Joop. Can't wait to be finished with that bottle 🤪.........Great Job
This was such a fun trip through memory lane for me! It reminded me of my teenage years and several of my male friends wearing Kouros and Drakkar Noir. Also Amando Noir, very popular at the time but which I can’t find on fragrantica.
I like the Drakkar Noir but i love my Bijan. I tried Joop and like you i can't get with it on me but my friend at work rocks that shy't and I'm impressed with it, makes no sense but maybe i gotta wait longer for the dry down. I also have Zino and its thick'n classy
i love Obsession for Men by CK, however my favourite 80's fragrance that barely anyone talks about is Bijan for Men 1987 with the classic doughnut shape bottle.
This vid hits home. I grew up in the eighties and smelled many of these fragrances. Such nostalgia. Obsession is my favorite fragrance of the entire lot. Oh. And I was expecting to see Sung Homme on this list. Well! Maybe next time. 🤷🏾♂️
Hi Ash. Love The Calvin Klein Obsession. That was The Fragrance, that made me start my colection. Was a Gift on a Special Ocasion Of my Life. Please do a Review Of Calvin Klein Obsession. Thank You
I just bought Drakkar Noir 2 days ago not knowing anything, it's just my mother introduce it to me. When I sprayed it on my wrist, I loved it very much! My type of smell! And I just learned that this perfume is from the 80's wow!
People might deride cool water, drakkar noir or even old spice edt but you can still find them at your local Walmart so people are still buying them. Because they're timeless.
That's a really interesting point you brought up about having to cut through cigarette smoke, I hadn't even considered that! BTW Kouros is an absolute masterpiece, it got me into fragrances & changed my whole perception of what I thought fragrances were about, it wasn't just about smelling nice it was also a statement, you could convey how you wanted people to perceive you without saying a word.
Great video. I think of this channel when I see Drakkar Noir at my local Walgreens - haven’t picked up a bottle, yet. I’m a huge fan of the Fahrenheit DNA and I got really big into collecting all the flankers, until I picked up summer and 0 degree. Not bad frags, but def not how I want to smell. I ended up putting those and Fahrenheit cologne on eBay and keeping the rest of the flankers.
Wow, an OTT animated description of Jopp! 😁 Hmm...that makes Joop my first ever "in ya face" fragrance! 🤔 Had Coolwater, Obsession and Krizia during the 80's, my favourites were Ck Obsession (still have that same bottle with few ounces in it) and Krizia Uomo .. 😂
My dad who is an average blue collar guy and isn’t a fragrance guy swears by Drakkar Noir. I had him smell some other 80s scents (Joop, Fahrenheit, Canoe) but he still says Drakkar is king. It shows that if you love a certain scent there might be nothing to change you mind especially if you wore them in the 80s.
Great vid Here are my favorites with lots of nostalgia connected to them Cool water Davidoff my first perfume at the age of 17 Night flight Joop Aramis Van Gils strictly for men Fahrenheit Dior Minotaur Paloma Picasso Eternity Calvin Klein Kouros ysl Wings for men Giorgio Beverley hills
I Just picked up Hugo Boss Number 1 on a blowout sale. After an initial mixed reaction I now find it amazing. So unique. this is the older black box with 125ml. The one to get.
Joop! Homme is just too sweet for me, to a point that it makes me sick. But boy does it last. It stuck on my skin for nearly 18 hours. p.s. I'm so happy you actually spoke about Versace L'homme. There just is something about the fragrance that just works for me. I've mistaken it for Versace pour homme (back when I was just getting into fragrances), but just had to come back to it again and again ever since.
Original Adidas cologne (clear bottle, gold juice and blue cap) by Jovan was my 80’s go to. Still one of the best musk colognes ever released. Got a decant of some really expensive FDB Sahraa Oud about a year ago, and as soon as I smelled it I was like; “This smells just like Adidas from back in the day”! Only it was about 20 times the price. Pulled out my vantage bottle to confirm and could not believe it. Could not tell the difference. It was a mind blowing moment.
Joop Homme is my signature scent. Amazing. Yes it's strong, that means it will last longer, throughout the day. No need to reapply, put some on in the morning and you're set for the day. On my skin (light brown), it starts off citrus. Then it's oriental, spicy cinnamon , ends with a woody, earthy sweet vanilla. If I put it on in the morning, around lunch it's oriental and woody vanilla, for the rest of the day. Fantastic, for my skin.
I still wear drakkar noir here and there and It still brings in compliments. I was born in the early 80s and it speaks to me.
Great video! Polo by Ralph Lauren went missing in this list...the famous green bottle with the polo player and the gold cap. Iconic in the mid 80's.
1. Ralph Loren - Monogram
2. Drakkar Noir
3. Lagerfeld Photo
4. Obsession
and on and on. Glad I grew up in the 80s. So many great scents

I like the Drakkar Noir but i love my Bijan. I tried Joop and like you i can't get with it on me but my friend at work rocks that shy't and I'm impressed with it, makes no sense but maybe i gotta wait longer for the dry down. I also have Zino and its thick'n classy
BTW great video Ash
Fahrenheit is one of my favorite of all time! I still wear it often in the cooler months (doesn’t get cold where I live)
Awesome list ! Absolutely love most of those especially kouros and Drakkar noir …Zino is garbage though just saying 🤣🤣
i love Obsession for Men by CK, however my favourite 80's fragrance that barely anyone talks about is Bijan for Men 1987 with the classic doughnut shape bottle.
This vid hits home. I grew up in the eighties and smelled many of these fragrances. Such nostalgia. Obsession is my favorite fragrance of the entire lot.
Oh. And I was expecting to see Sung Homme on this list. Well! Maybe next time. 🤷🏾♂️
The Joop is one of my favs. That puking sweetness is fantastic 😂
Brut , Pierre Cardin, Paul Sebastian were my go to bottles as a kid in the early 80's didn't smell Polo or Drakkar until after 85.
Wonderful show, you brought me back to my youth when everything was more beautiful, including perfume, thank you.😊
That's a really interesting point you brought up about having to cut through cigarette smoke, I hadn't even considered that!
BTW Kouros is an absolute masterpiece, it got me into fragrances & changed my whole perception of what I thought fragrances were about, it wasn't just about smelling nice it was also a statement, you could convey how you wanted people to perceive you without saying a word.
Long live King Kouros!
Love me some Drakkar Noir
Wow, an OTT animated description of Jopp! 😁 Hmm...that makes Joop my first ever "in ya face" fragrance! 🤔 Had Coolwater, Obsession and Krizia during the 80's, my favourites were Ck Obsession (still have that same bottle with few ounces in it) and Krizia Uomo .. 😂
Halston Z-14, Drakkar Noir , and RL Polo Green were my "Go-to's"
I was wondering if should halston z-14 or creed aventus
My dad who is an average blue collar guy and isn’t a fragrance guy swears by Drakkar Noir. I had him smell some other 80s scents (Joop, Fahrenheit, Canoe) but he still says Drakkar is king. It shows that if you love a certain scent there might be nothing to change you mind especially if you wore them in the 80s.
Try it! It Works!
Coolwater is still cool till today. Did you do a review on fragrance of the 90s?
Great list Ash, got many of them and enjoy them still💪😀!
The dry down on Drakkar! Absolutely gorgeous.
Thank you Ash! That was fast!
Nice video Ashton, Kouros was one of my first colognes.
Great vid

Cool water Davidoff
my first perfume at the age of 17
Night flight Joop
Aramis
Van Gils strictly for men
Fahrenheit Dior
Minotaur Paloma Picasso
Eternity Calvin Klein
Kouros ysl
Wings for men Giorgio Beverley hills
This brings me back to HS in the early 90s...I can picture guys I knew based on these scents🤣 Excellent content!🙏
I hope you do a 90s and early 2000s video as well :-)
Man, my concert scent in the 80’s are Paco Rabanne Ténèré!
A fantastic rock fragrance!
Love all of these. Especially Zino by Davidoff.
Kouros was my first sig.scent in 80's
Love it ! Joop deffo worked hahaha
I just sprayed some 24 year old CL Obsession last night and it smelled amazing.
Great list Ash😀! I got several of them and enjoy them still, regardless of what people around me thinks🤪😂!
I bought another bottle of Obsession last week. I had that when I was a kid in the early 90's. One of the best men's fragrances.
Santos de Cartier concentree is the best thing I have smelled until this day. Absolutely love that stuff!
I remember my friends wearing Tuscany Per Uomo by Aramis . I enjoyed that too.
Let's be real here - in 5 years, we will be far enough from the 80's that these will all be brand new to the younger set.
This is it already for me. I like to discover what the previous decades had to offer.
💯👊🏼
True that
Drakkar noir is my go to fragrance when out playing poker on irish pubs 👌
Original Adidas cologne (clear bottle, gold juice and blue cap) by Jovan was my 80’s go to. Still one of the best musk colognes ever released. Got a decant of some really expensive FDB Sahraa Oud about a year ago, and as soon as I smelled it I was like; “This smells just like Adidas from back in the day”! Only it was about 20 times the price. Pulled out my vantage bottle to confirm and could not believe it. Could not tell the difference. It was a mind blowing moment.
just picked up a vintage obsession looking forward to it
What a list! I would have added Tsar though...
Remember going through bottles of Obsession and Benetton Colors in high school. Great memories
