It can easily fit into the modern era. It is the precursor to modern day 'blue' scents aka fresh out the shower. However, it has an old school edge that modern fragrances sorely lack. Timeless and still punches above its weight.
Even back then I did not want to wear what everyone else was wearing including fragrances. However, upon hearing multiple girls talking about how much they loved it I did buy a bottle. Good review again.
Drakkar Noir was my first signature scent when I was in middle school 1986 it has a great performance, good memories with that fragrance. Also Kouros was one of my favorites, in the early 90’s I switched to cool water.
I just got it, haven't had any experience with the older versions but I just love mine. It smells like I had a clean shave. It performs well on my skin too, so I've had no problems with longevity whatsoever.
This is like a king of memes nowadays. It's very familiar to me but my classmates wore Fahrenheit and Aramis and YSL Opium back in the 90s. Great review again.
While in college, in international marketing class, we did a case study involving pheromone based colognes. I started using one called Andron and immediately got the attention of a very beautiful girl. We dated several months before she gave me a bottle of Polo, saying it was her all time favorite. With in a week or so she dropped me. Was it due to the change from pheromone overtones? Who knows, but were i still single i would go only for the alluring colognes (cheating maybe ). P.S. I still have a bottle of 007, circa 1966. Please don't tell anyone.
Enjoyed the outro music 👍🏼 I have to agree. The moment (back then) you heard a girl you liked talking about how much they loved the smell... you were less than 24 hrs from being the proud and hopeful owner of your very own bottle!
I was born the year you were born. And Drakkar Noir was the first cologne I remember using. After 40 years of non use, I am returning to it for nostalgias' sake!
Good to hear it sir - be prepared for the consequences. I recommend some quality running shoes, so that you can easily outpace the ladies that will be chasing you!
My father used this in the 80s and 90s, i always liked it. I bought it recently ... and its way too weak. It lasts 2-3hs. It still smells great, specially in the end but you need to stick your nose really close to feel it. Now Drakkar Intense EDP ... thats a different story. Not as powerful opening, but lasts twice as much.
This is still my wife’s favorite scent. If we have a date night it’s just expected that I wear this. Even though I have some of todays most popular fragrances. 😂
Drakkar Noir is a Classic beast among men's fragrances!! A staple on my shelf since the 80's! I don't wear it as much as I used to; but that's because I have a lot of different fragrances on my shelf that I rotate religiously.
Spot on Ash! I discovered this scent in the pages of GQ and Esquire asa young soldier in the US Army back in 1984. I still wear it to this day,….on occasion and sparingly…haha!
I’m 33 and I wear Drakkar Noir and Paco Rabanne Pour Homme as two of my signature scents. I prefer classic fragrances to the more modern colognes that are on the market today.
I also love Drakkar Noir, or I did, it isn't anywhere near as potent as it was. To me it lacks logevity now, which is really disappointing, but at that price we don't mind "over-spraying". I still love it.
I love Drakkar, and I currently use the body-spray. It’s less expensive, and to me it has the same effect. By the way, I love the pipe. I think it would be interesting to see a video from you on pipes. I’m a new subscriber, maybe you’ve already done a video on this, I’ll search.
What a great review of a great cologne...! The current formulation of "Drakkar Noir" is pretty weak and smells also a little bit different than the older versions. But there's a trick you can do: Get the Al Rehab "Dakar" perfume oil, apply it to your skin and then spray a few layers of the original Drakkar Noir over it. The result is fantastic! Almost a perfect copy to the vintage version. Just the very final drydown is a little bit different, but the rest is at least for my nose almost identical.
This is how fantastic this fragrance is….When this came out in 82 I was a freshman in high school….We used to give a quick spray on various anatomical areas of our bodies then tell the female hotties in high school to guess where we sprayed it…it was so effective that some of our best girl friends said they had to go home and change due to extreme vaginal lubrication due to its scent and effect…Dudes…this fragrance ABSOLUTELY WORKS WONDERS…god bless, Bryan ( aga 56 )…🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Ah... nostalgia, indeed. Thanks for this flashback, made me want to wear Drakkar Noir again. A suggestion for a future video on another classic from the 70s (I think)... BRUT by Faberge. Currently, it's available as aftershave but also as eau de toilette and eau de cologne. Any thoughts on the new formulations, especially the eau de toilette and eau de cologne. How does it compare with the Faberge version? Would love to see your take on this and most importantly is it still worth buying in this era? Thanks, lovely informative channel.
I want you to do a review of what I consider to be the greatest men's fragrance ever made, Cartier Declaration. If you don't have this in your collection, we need to fix this.😮
I absolutely love these vids ! awesome as usual ^^ You should check out Salvador Dali Pour homme ( a tad more expensive but absolutely awesome and the bottle's extremely original with the mouth/lips ) and Roger&Gallet l'homme ( just perfect and not that expensive either ).
Ah... I vividly remember Jazz, one of my favourites. Sadly it has since been discontinued, another 80s/90s great gone to the great cologne heaven. Worth watching the commercial just for kicks though: ruclips.net/video/lCerTF_YeEM/видео.html
This was my signature cologne from the late 80s through the early 2000s. I'm definitely too old for it now. I think me and you are almost exactly the same age. On a sidenote, you use the phrase "down the bar" which I believe is a Welsh colloquialism. Stateside when Philadelphians go visit the beaches in New Jersey we go "down the Shore" , which may be a linguistic holdover from early Welsh immigrants. The Philadelphia region is full of Welsh place names, including the town I live in now.
I can remember back in the mid 1980's when all the bennys from New York would invade south Jersey and Seaside Heights and permeate the boardwalk with this fragrence. It's a good cologne nonetheless.
Insert family Guy episode here lol. Btw I picked up a bottle of Quorum Silver following your advice, thank you, it's absolutely fantastic stuff! and only for £11, what a steal, it compares favourably with scents 4x the price.
I got it today and tried it for the first time. The opening notes are great but unfortunately they fade away within 20 seconds and then i get a soapy and sour smell. Can anybody tell which note could be the sour one?
I stick with Aramis for cooler months. But I was a great Miami Vice fan and did everything to copy Sunny and Ricardo. And believe it or not I still have a Miami vice white striped suit that is in its style outdated but I still keep it. The days... Ash, now you made us all feel old ! BTW what's with that pipe ? You don't smoke do you?
I was a given a Drakkar Noir jacket, when they were involved in power boat competitions in the nineties at RAF Mildenhall when I was in the Royal Air Force Reserve. I thought they no longer existed, as I used to stock up at Duty Free Airports , but had not seen it for over a decade Personally I think the character Jason Love by James Leasor( film where the spy’s are) would use it.
Can you please review YSL Opium Pour Homme. It's still around and I got 4 bottles of it just in case. It's my signature scent. I would appreciate that.
@@TheChapsGuide thanks. It came out in 1995 and has a very unique and distinct smell. It's a little powdery while giving this spicy, subtle cinnamon apple pie/champagne scent. There is really nothing like it these days.
I was watching The Pink Panther again with Peter Sellers and David Niven and David Niven portraying Sir Charles Lytton is using Aqua di Selva. Are you perhaps familiar with it? If so. what do you think about it? I never saw it in the shops.
Guy Laroche had over 40 years to do what sauvage elixir did w the drakkar dna. A sweeter parfumy drakkar noir. Dior cant say they didnt give them first dibs to do it lol.

That is not the Drakkar Noir of old. It is the same scent but nowhere near as strong. Still, a pleasant scent but I'm not convinced of the hyper-masculinity either. I would wear this after a swim or a workout. 7/10.
Even though the dna is in no way dated - nowadays this would only be taken seriously as a refreshing gym scent. Too aromatic and herbal - no leather tobacco tonka ect. I can't see this being worn on dates nor clubs. Its not alluring either - just intoxicatingly fresh and earthy. It can be cheesy masculine if you wear it to the wrong place. You might get weird looks wearing this if you ARENT looking sporty wearing basketball shorts and a tank top. I wouldn't wear this in the winter- too fresh and not sweet enough. This would be perfect in spring day or night.

It is a true classic. And spicy too!

My first cologne. thank you, Dad 😢
This one and green BRUT are my absolute favorites !
It’s so strong because it had to cut through all the cigarette smoke
