  • Time to install the cylinder heads-wait, nope, have to lap the valves, clean them, and them reinstall all of the parts first. Darn, and I thought we were finished cleaning everything!
    If you remember, while taking the engine apart, we realized that it had two different cylinder heads on it, so those got put aside and I dragged out a matching pair of 193 swirl port heads. Still pretty bad, but they will get us back on the road.

    I'm currently building a Ford 302 (that I'm shoehorning into an 80s BMW 3 series), and it feels virtually identical to your video series on this. Really enjoy your content!

    by putting a bit of electric tape around the valve stem with a little overhang you wont risk damageing the unbrallaseals :) thumbs up, this is the most educating video i'v seen on youtube so far!

    My dads 350 was run without oil towing a boat. It was so bad that they’re was a quarter of an inch of metal missing from the rod journal. Both bearings became one. Welded together. 248 thousand miles and it was that bad but still ran smoothe

      I would like to, and had hoped to over the weekend, but it became clear that this was just way too much editing work to make that happen, and this episode is so long. I'm uploading them literally as they finish rendering, so I can't go any faster! It was either this or wait another week to upload anything, and I feel like this helps everyone see that videos are going up.

    I got a 94 s10 4.3 that the motor had a bad knock for over a year but it kept going. I even pulled a 12ft trailer while moving and the rod knocked but kept going. Even the smaller v6 sbc motors are great.

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  6 лет назад +2

      Yep, and I've heard similar stories! I think the knock mine had may have been a symptom of larger engine wear and sludge, because the oil pressure dropped to zero at a stop sign (which shuts off the fuel pump) a while after the knock got bad. I didn't want to deal with it. Those 4.3L engines like to knock but don't like to die, from what I've heard.

    Use a 3/8 ratchet without a socket next time, but, I'm old and don't know if that trick still works? Cool vids...

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  6 лет назад +1

      Unfortunately not for that plug, it was 5/16" so a standard 3/8" drive wouldn't fit it. There are square sockets that would fit, but I don't have one in that size.

  • @amsp129
    @amsp129 6 лет назад +1

    This series is really interesting to see
    But let me say it because I was concerned about it.
    It will not be lapping the valve even if rubbing it by turning the valve
    Because the valve is a thing that goes up and down and it is not a thing to turn around.
    It is meaningless unless airtight is secured by actual valve movement.

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  6 лет назад +2

      Valves rotate as well as moving up and down! Exhaust valves often specifically have "rotators" to make sure they move as they are actuated. Valve lapping like this ensures an even valve seal all the way around since the valve will rotate in operation.

    • @amsp129
      @amsp129 6 лет назад +1

      Paste the URL of the reference video, because I do not have confidence to explain well with my English ability.
      I think that it is clear that vertical movement rather than rotation is important.

    wd 40 = water dispersant formula number 40.
    That mean a dude tried 40 times to formulate a water dispersant before to succed ,to be able to not wait parts to dry before to spray them ; )
    If you had ported those ports to remove all those ugly ridges,you could have gained quite a lot of torque and hp.
    like the ridge on the valves between the neck and face,it's really bad for the airflow.
    Very nice work nevertheless.

    Because you’re rebuilding this engine, does that mean you reset the odometer? Actually does that mean the engine has 0 miles? Because the car clearly has more miles than the engine.

    What impact sockets are u using ??

    • @FuzzyDiceProjects
      @FuzzyDiceProjects  6 лет назад +3

      The set I use for the 3/8" impact is from ATD, and I absolutely love them. Chromoly, good price ($60 for a big set), not a ding on one so far (even when used with 1/2" impacts), well labeled, really every positive thing I could think to say about a set of sockets.

      I mentioned several times in these videos my stance on that, I know swirlies aren't good but they are what I have and that makes them good enough!
