That misting technique is the same repair I was taught years ago by a real old school painter, we're talking from back in the old (no hardener) enamel paint job days. Thanks for the video. Metallics can be trickier, but doable.
Single stage is a great option on not-so-great cars. To drive or to flip. I like the fact that 400 grit is fine for prep. Instead of 3 coats of base and 2 or 3 coats of clear I normally do, maybe 2 1/2 coats if you do a tack coat to introduce the paint to the surface like the old timers did. The old work truck looks good, just as good as it needs to and prolly better than it has in a lotta years
I had an '82 foxbody in high school. My uncle painted it for graduation in '90. Centari pitch black single stage, 4 coats. People asked to buy that car from me everywhere I drove it, comments always on the paint job.
I really want to paint my 1996 Buick Roadmaster sedan single stage white. I just haven't been able to save up enough for a few gallon kits to cover everything and have some leftover for changes later on
Shoot. I call people like him tiny. I'm 6'7", 320 lbs of solid muscle. I wear 3XL and have to cut the booties off. I still end up tearing them all up because the torso isn't long enough and there's a tug-o-war between my shoulders and my crotch.
Never gets old watching these videos. I should be ordering some single stage paint kit for my son's car soon. ( I don't have any where to paint would I be able to paint outside under a tent ? ) The ratios is the other thing I'm a bit scared of messing up on.
So I have to get over my...it's a Dodge truck, but seriously turned out amazing! The single stage that you sprayed on the wheels and bumper on my food truck still look fantastic. No chips and still the same level of gloss. Truck really does look great!

Yea I do like base clear for certain applications. But older cars or ones that I sand heavy On, I typically like single stage. Even the pros at the shop will miss a 180 grit scratch here and there and that's no issue with single stage, fills right in. Base clear ? Not so much unless using a 45% solids clear. We sell smr42 which does fill good and level great but still...

Love single stage, easy to repair, easy to spray less labor, sometimes it even shines better IMO. With base coat clear coat the gloss can die back into the base leaving you with a less glossy finish. Not single stage. Color and gloss is in the same coat so no risk of die back most cases
Truck looks great. What would you suggest for me to start budget painting cars? RUclips, autobody class, just start painting on junkyard stuff. I flip cars here and there but a cheap paint job would help profits.
