  • @darianistead2239
    @darianistead2239 Год назад +1

    I did the same about 13 years ago. Build was for "Four n' Rotary" nationals show and shine. Car was a green 86' mazda 323 rolling shell 2 weeks out, converted it to Mitsubishi Lancer evo6 engine and awd, full retrim, rewired, tuned then test driven, stripped and then decided on ppg 2k dg black (single stage, two part direct gloss) to save on time, didn't like it one solid colour, so scuffed then copied the original Mazda bfmr two tone laying gunmetal grey base coat on lower half and around the window surrounds, then one solid coat of ppg high solid 2k clear over top of both colours and a flow coat, drove it there with no hood as it was still baking and it looked immaculate under false lights in the show. The black looked ten miles deep and like it was dripping..
    Since then I've done the same to single stages to add depth and gloss to quick and easy paint jobs, like my evo on my channel.

    I have done this several times for an entire car. What I have found is that it almost doesn't matter what you use for a base coat it's simply just a color. I've actually used Rust-Oleum paint as a base coat color and then used actual automotive clear coat. For the clear coat I used Speedokote glamor clear and got almost showroom quality finish out of it. Although I've used Rust-Oleum as a base coat and gloss the best results I had was using rustoleum thinned down and in a satin Sheen and then used the clear coat over it and I got the best results with that.

    • @shantor100
      @shantor100 Год назад +1

      I was thinking of doing exactly that to parts of my black truck. How much did you thin it and with what. Good old paint thinner or reducer? How long did you let it dry before clear coating. I just don't feel like spending $200 for black auto paint

    • @webmastersof
      @webmastersof Год назад +2

      @@shantor100 There are many different thinners that you can use to thin the paint however I used acetone. I mixed it four parts paint to three parts of acetone. You can use a gloss rustoleum however I found in my personal experience that a satin Sheen seems to lay flatter and smoother on the vehicle and then you can clear coat over that. I only waited long enough for the paint to get tacky so maybe 20 minutes to a half hour after I sprayed the base coat (Rust-Oleum) I learned this trick from a professional auto body shop near me called lakeside Auto body here in Michigan. I will post the link here for you to see exactly how to mix it to make things easier.

      Meehh probably if I can get this clutch issue resolved. Throw on a long tube header and some coilovers and beep bop around town.

    Why don’t you put a $50 walmart canopy over cars in that shop. so stuff from rafters don’t fall on your fresh paint. Yeah you just swuint and it looks good but if you could get it done with little effort and stop the stuff from falling. 12’x12’ actually would be better. $100

    Every time I’ve tried to clear some head lights with rattle can clear the paint always cracks and looks like a spider web or crows feet. I’ve tried light coats, different brand of clear. Nup it still cracks and I have to sand it all back off again. Not sure what’s happening.
