- In this video I share all the tips and tricks on how to spray 2k clear over @RustOleumBrands @RustOleumAutomotive turbo spray paint. This 2k clear makes your turbo spray paint last for years and also deepens the shine. Another cool feature of using this catalyzed clear is that you can wet sand and buff it to a show car finish and it makes it chemical and gas resistant. This was a fun video that I learned a great deal about how this spray paint stuff works and any one can do this!! Ill drop all the amazon affiliate links below so yall can check the items out ,and if you purchase off these links it helps the channel out at no additional cost to you. I make a very small percentage off of qualified purchases.

I'm appreciating this so much as I'm going to start doing bodywork on my car and refuse to spend my hard earned money and prep work to some guy who will give a terrible paint job. I'd like to do it myself for the learning experience and so I can only point the finger at myself rather than someone else on top of being out a couple thousand bucks. Thanks again
Awesome love to see people trying out this very rewarding trade!!!
Everyone should be hitting that like button and sharing. He has spent good hard money for all of us to watch and learn. Great job and keep up the great videos! I really enjoy watching your videos. Your a great RUclipsr!!
Thank you very much for the kind words!!!! I love helping people to learn paint and body, and also seeing them happy when they turn out there first paint job!¡!
@ACDesignsGarage I painted a whole 96 chevy long bed doing exactly what you've done here. Then I cut it and buffed it. It looks unbelievably good. If you do a cutting video on that 2k clear a lot of people are gonna be shocked. 99.9% of people wouldn't know my paint job wasn't factory. Came out WAY better than I had hoped for
If you do it again, wet sand, the black before you add the clear and then wet sand, the clear after that
I thought about that for another video, you think people would be interested?
I would be interested . I’m in the process of doing that now , day 3 of the turbo drying
What kind of difference will sanding the black before putting on the clear do? Make it have a more mirror like finish?
@@ACDesignsGarage i would be really interested in seeing that process im trying to rattle can my hood of my car. i want to get good results
If you're going to paint outside wait till right after a rain storm. It settles all dust and dirt from the air and the bugs are busy hiding. Always have my best results after everything as been wet down
I like the fact that you show yourself use a squeegee to dry the water off as you sand to inspect the surface for proper surface prep, Not many painters show this step to see that they have the surface prepped correctly. And in my honest opinion it is a very important step!
Hey bud you can put that leftover 2K Clear in the freezer & when you're ready to use it again just put it in warm water for a few minutes it'll work like new
Neato, never heard of that! 👍
Awesome thank you for the tip!!!
That's new
Bro is from the future
Wait REALLY?!?
OMG That's great! I just bought a 6pk of those to do my Hubby's tractor and it's been heck trying to time the opening of the can with the weather. They arent cheap so I've been frustrated trying to use it all before it rains or gets windy or cold or too hot. 😂
I'll try this and see how it does.
Thank you!
Looking forward to seeing how it finishes up! Yep, I'd like to see how well the adjustable nozzle spray cans work. I'm looking to do an old garden tractor for my first try.
I'm going to shoot some videos on the adjustable tip cans soon!!!
Thank you so much for taking the time to post all these videos! This is exactly what I needed to know right now because I'm just about to paint a camper shell and it's my first time painting something auto quality.
Awesome that's cool, good luck!!!
I’m NC too and ran into a lot of the same problems (my first go round w the turbo/2k system) yesterday with dry spray and lots of orange peel from not going heavy enough with the clear. It wet sanded good today w 2000. Good luck man
Wish me luck, this Fridays video I'm gonna wetsand and buff the 2k lol
That stuff looks like it works great. Thanks for sharing brother
Thank brotha for all your support!!!
Not too shabby! Can't wait to see it cut and buffed!
Thank you, I hope it turns out SHINY!!
@@ACDesignsGarage I hope there's enough clear coat thickness, if so then it'll definitely be super shiny!!!!!
Great Job. Can't wait to see the finished result!
It turned out awesome!!!!
Sweet. Beautiful job . I would roll with just like it is thank you. Love the spray can jobs thank you so much.
Thank you, there actually pretty fun to do!!
That's a massive spray pattern from those cans, 3 trips down the side of a truck panel. And yeah those little bugs just love the smell of fresh paint!
Nice one AC, amazing finish with aerosols, well done!!
Thank you very much!!!!
Great job! Enjoyed the video! Thanks for the tips, time, and thoughts that you put into them! More welding and body & painting it’s all good! Thanks again.
Thank you for watching!!!!
Really injoying watching your videos. I'm trying to get my 2003 Dodge back to looking better than the twenty years of Texas heat, cold, and intest sun has done to the paint. The flame red/clear burned on the hood and roof. Thanks again, James in Texas.
Awesome thanks for watching James, We were just in Texas april in Austin for the Lonestar round up!!!
Love the video, thanks for the video!
Thank you very much!!!
Nice job again- gives some of us rookies some hope that we can come up with a good quality result!
Thank you, you can do it, you can always sand it off lol
Great job, keep up the good work.
Thank you very much!!!
You do good work. Carry on!
Thank you very much!!!!
Looks awesome!
Thank you!!!!
Great job!
Thank you very much!!!!
Raid yard gaurd walk around what you're painting while spraying helps keep the bugs away
Awesome thank you for the tip, ill have to try that!!!
Awesome video If I was to try this out I would slowly spray this clear into a paint gun and clear something just to see how it would lay out
Hold up... can you do that?
I don't have a Paint Gun yet but I've been wondering if that was possible!
You can do that, the only problem you may have is it being pretty thin. But if you give it a shot let me know how it goes!!!
🔥 Great Content 🔥 look forward to more uploads.
Awesome thank you for watching!!!!
I would like to see the 5 tip can on the tail gate with some 2k clear 58:43
Awesome ill try to film that!!! Thanks for the idea!!
I'd like to know if the 5 tip lid would work on top of the Tuebo can!
Aye that looks a lot better. Let it dry for a week, and wet sand. Then cut/buff it will turn out clean. I’m tempted to paint a truck like this with the turbo can and some 2k clear.
Another great video from you! Thanks for sharing. I'd really like to learn how to how to paint with a compressor/gun setup. I would love to see a video with you spraying a panel with a gun with recommendations for what equipment a novice would need to buy. Hope your hand is healing ok. Peace
Thank you very much, ill try to make a new one I'll put a link below to a older on that I did, hope you enjoy!!!

Hi AC, Question for you. I don't remember if you mentioned how long you waited before you put the 2K clear on over the black Rust-oleum. To my knowledge Rust-oleum is oil-based and it takes a long time to time to dry. Granted you were spraying in hot conditions that day so I'm sure it tacked up pretty quick. Thanks!!
Thank you, If you saw me checking the paint on the tape, that's what I was checking was when it would be ready. I do this painting with high dollar clear. What I do is find a taped up area or piece of paper near the paint that has paint or clear on it and touch it with my finger, if it strings up like spider webs it's still to wet , or if clear comes off on my finger its to wet. When I touch it and no residue comes off and it feels like the sticky side of a piece of tape then you are ready. Like you were saying it's hard to put a time on it due to different temperatures. Hope this helps if you have any more questions let me know, im here to help!!!
Hi AC is it ok if I spray my turbo black on a Friday and then come back and spray the 2k clear on Sunday to let the turbo black time to fully dry or what do you suggest I do
Wow nice paint job😊😊😊😊
Thank you!!!!
Thanks for the education
Thank you for your time!!!!!
How about tailgate on the 5 nozzle cans you can show us new to painting and body work guys how to get around them embossed letters with sanding at the same time. Keep'em coming. How's the hand feeling?
It's feelin better, thanks for asking, that sounds like a good video, let me see if I can dig up a good tail gate and I'll give it a shot!!!
I always paint the hard to get spots first then come back and get the big stuff. I think a regular can for tough to get spots and use turbo on flat panels. Can turn can upside down spray to clean tip some.
Yes you can on so many spray paints!
I mean... Not the Turbo or this 2k clear, but yeah I learned that the hard way myself!
The Turbo is made so that ut even sprays upside down.
The 2K loses too much compressed air when you try it. Then you're left with Paint inside that you can't spray out.
But I've been using some other stuff and ut does work on those! 👍
I do that also, I will say the small cans lay down the paint slicker than the turbo. But if you need to paint something fast it has you covered!!
I was about to ask about adding some soap, and you answered it. I feel like it keeps my paper from clogging up.
Yeah it works great and helps to clean it also!!!
I've noticed ( especially on the so called no sand sealers ) that once you apply the clear coat that the modeling of Orange peel is very visible despite the color sanding and leveling of the top coat.
I've seen that before on metallics ,it tends to show the contours. When I spray my sealers I try to shoot them through a 1.3 tip so it bust up the sealer so it layes as flat as possible!
Very cool!
Thank you!!!!
What is your opinion on the color. The thing I didn’t like about the turbo can black as with most aerosol black paints it doesn’t look as rich deep black as say a single stage black. I’m really curios if the 2K clear changed the appearance of how deep black it looks.
I think the clear darkens it up a little bit and has a better gloss, were gonna try to cut and buff that 2k clear this week and see what we mess up lol. Black the color goes from the brown side to the blue side of The color spectrum, I think the rustoleum is on the brown side of black when you get the super black its twords the blue side of black.
Nice job
Thank you!!!!!
You have a great spray technique. How many total cans of 2K clear did you use on that panel? I ask, because I am trying to calculate what I would need for my own car.
Thank you!!! I used 2 cans of the spraymax 2k clear. You may be able to skimp a little if you can get the base a lil slicker and not as much orange peel.
Tennessee Paint Bugs.
😂😂😂
From West to East, North to South...
Those dang TN Paint Bugs are causing us ALL to have problems!
You got that right lol
Get some motip caps for the spray cans.
You also can reuse the spraymax caps you can clean them if you put them on a can of brake cleaner when your done spraying the clear.
Thanks for the tip!!!
I would have used the black nozzle for the clear to get a wider fan
Looks great for a can. In the process of painting wheels gloss black then 2k clear. Did you get any reactions with base to clear? How long for base to dry before 2k clear? Thank you. Bed liner in bed and you've got a new bed. They recommend 2k clear in a warm bucket of water for it to lay down w/o orange peel. 🍊 👍
I won't speak to how his job will react. I can speak from my novice experience with this same setup on my engine bay. I tried to follow the principle of spraying the turbo, waiting for the base to tack up and applying the 2k clear. I had a bad reaction where the clear wrinkled up with the base coat. I'm assuming it's because I didn't allow for enough of the solvent to off gas.
From my research, I've read that you should allow more time for the turbo to off gas, some say a few days to a week. But I've also come across 15-20 minutes.
I will be trying this same setup again, but I plan to give the base coat about a week to cure and then I will wet sand the peel out and clear coat that. Then cut and buff.
Again, I have very little experience with paint, I'm geared more toward the mechanical side. But I prefer to learn and do things myself. Which is why I've been enjoying his content. So, hopefully in the next video he will give better insight to reaction and solutions if it does happen.
@@Mr.Wongburger
I recently used these exact products on my hubby's tractor.
Granted, due to weather I had to wait about a week or longer between the black and the 2K clear. And I haven't had any reactions.
But I also used a "ColorShift" in between. (I used Blue to Purple from the Auto Parts store. It said "ColorShift" on top.)
I'm not sure if that made any difference or not. Just trying to help.
@@inthelandofmorethansmall7582 Thank you for the info. It's probably due to allowing the base to off gas first. The clear coat with hardener will dry much quicker than the rustoleum, this traps the solvents underneath causing the wrinkles.
Had no reaction with the rustoleum but not sure about other brands. I check a spot on tape where it over sprayed on. You want it to barly be sticky like the back side of a piece of tape. You don't want it stringing like a spider web, it's still to wet at that point. It's ready when it's early sticky like tape and youll be good to shoot the 2k. You can check my 2k video and see how sticky I show it in there. Thanks for watching!!!!
Heating the can helps to atomize the paint better.
What about wet sanding before the clear?
Yes that will do a awesome job, may do another video on that!!
@@ACDesignsGarageplease make a video sanding the rustoleum then adding 2k clear after.
should you wet sand down orange peel before spraying clear coat? ive always wondered that
You can but you'll have to wait a few days, if you do it this way you can do it all in one day. This weeks video I cut and buffed the clear and it turned out amazing! It goes live on the 24th at 8 pm est.
Can you spray paint bumpers of cars like this? I have an old 95 TA that I would like to try this on
I would love to see you paint the truck with a rattle can me and my son are working on a 1966 C10 truck are next step will be getting it ready for paint but as we know paint job are expensive I was thinking about Rattle can Spraying I think I can get a good enough paint job for it to look good thank you for the great contents
That's awesome. I have a 65 c10 I've been workin on. The spray paint is cheaper but if you have a spray gun and a compressor it's so much easier!!!!
@@ACDesignsGarage I do have a spray gun from harbor freight and a compressor but I don’t no how to go about mixing the paint with the right mixture do u have a video in your playlist how to do that?
How are ya bud? I’m painting rain guards for my windows on my car, and I ordered the same color paint as my car, so after I scuff them up, and primer, there’s a ground coat, and a Midcoat, in 2 separate cans. After I prime, which paint do I lay first, ground coat, or mid coat? Then I’m gonna put 2k clear over them. Thanks👍
Awesome I hope your doin well!! I'd say the ground coat is like your base coat, id do it first and the mid coat is probably like a pearl or transparent candy. Just to be safe sand and prime a lil piece of wood or plastic and do a small test spot just to see would be good insurance. Hope this helps, if you have any more just ask!!!
@@ACDesignsGarage Yeah, I believe you’re right, because I have Pearl in my paint? It’s a 21 Acura ILX. Thanks for your knowledge, appreciate that👍
nice video, keep on going! Are you from Alabama? ;)
Thank you, NC
I just did my hood and grill and bumper. You think 2k will react with the turbo can? It’s been 3 days and I was gunna let it dry and wet sand then spray with 2k? Good idea or bad??
Ill link my video from last week, shoot I didn't even wait lol. I did wait till it was barly tacky then shot the 2k and it worked like a charm , this week I cut and buffed it and it looked amazing, that video will be up on Saturday!!!

i wish i would've found these videos before i painted my truck topper. i painted it about a month ago with the intention of spraying that 2k clear on it but haven't been able to yet, what do i need to do to prepare it for clear since its been painted and on the road for a couple months now. like do i just clean it real good and spray it or do i need to wet sand it and do another coat of rustoleum then clear? i know nothing about painting so any advice would be cool.
Awesome thank you!!! I'd clean it up and look at it. As long as the color still looks good and not faded I would sand it with 600 to 800 grit wet till it looks hazy with no shine clean it again then shoot the 2k clear. Just a rule of thumb anytime you paint over another paint job always sand so you have something for the paint to bite into .
@@ACDesignsGarage thanks for the response! i appreciate the help
You could brush the paint on and sand it smooth before clear coating and get a show room finish!
I think you should of wet sand the black before the 2k clear coat but it still came out amazing
Your right, I had to do it all in one day due to the rain comming lol thanks for watching!!
Is that what I should use for a degreaser, is the Sprayway glass cleaner? I use it all the time on my car windows.
I kinda use ut for a pre cleaner, not sure how good it is on grease. That's why I always use the wax and grease remover just to be sure!!
@@ACDesignsGarage All my parts I’m going to paint, are brand new plastic. I’m not sure if I’ll need any degreaser? I have a spoiler kit, for the front, and sides as well. I was told, rubbing alcohol would work too, after scuffing?
@@ACDesignsGarage I’m trying to make all the parts I’m adding on the car, the same color as the car? Color is NH883P
Don't add car wash soap to your water while wet sanding before painting. Some car washes have waxes added to them like carnauba that will cause adhesion issues in the paint like fish eyes. Dawn is fine and in most cases promoted since it serves dual purpose by making the water more slick and also cleans oils off of the panel at the same time.
Your 100% correct I wish I'd of said that, Thats why I use a degreaseing soap like dawn alot of the time!!
I wish that company would make a similar professional paint gun that would screw on the top of that spray paint can. I think a company would double their stocks overnight. Imagine just order your color of your vehicle and no air compressor needed.
Slow down on the application, your running. Was a painter for 20+ yrs. After the first to lite second coat lay it on and pray you get no runs. It happens even with pros. But not often. Nice video, and I haven't used a can to paint a vehicle since I was a kid.
The Turbo can doesn't give that option.
It dumps paint far too hard and fast to slow down. I mean, you physically can't make it spray less - and if you move slower you'll just have worse runs.
But I agree... if you're using a different type of spray paint you should slow down.
I barly got one lil sag, lol runs don't rust lol. Thanks for watching!!!
not bad to say you never painted before
Lets go
What grit sandpaper was you using?
P600 wet and dry
Can you clear after you cut and buffed it?
The only problem is that the clear needs to be sprayed on a sanded surface so it wont peel off. At least 800 grit.
You should wet sand it!! Would love to see it buffed on the side with the clear!
Ill be wet sanding and buffing the 2k this weeks video!!!
Do you cut and buff the clear?
Yes that is this Fridays video!!!
Niice n shiiny.
Thank you!!!!
Can you show us how to fix the country?😊
Hahahaha yes Put Jesus first, everything else will fall in place!!!
when spraying with a large nzzle will not comes right loll, and not enough air for so much paint that comes out, try air comp: with a 1.3 jet, air only 25 PSI, i would get some cans, then empty them, remove the air out and use the air and even cheap gun with 25 PSI try it loll,
Rustoleum 2 part clear in a turbo can! You’ll sell thousands
I 100% agree that would be Rad!!!
I used rust oleum then put there 2x clear and everything wrinkled
There is a difference in 2k which is a catalyzed clear and the 2x clear im guessing is just a clear enamel like the colored rustoleum , I do know on the 2x clear you have to put it on within a hour of spraying your other coat. On the 2k I also like to put it on as soon as it tacs or within a hour also!
Do you still have your 66 bug? I have a 63 slammed. If you do would love to see more of it. At least a quick shot of it. Keep up the great work and videos
Yes , I love them early beetles!!! I'm planning on working on it soon. I bought a airbag beam from pan daggers that I need to install.
Why could you use acetone just to remove the whole entire paint or even aircraft removal then you throw some plastic on top of it let it sit and then when you remove the plastic everything else will come off real easy then that way you wouldn't have to say nothing down it's easy peasy you add the paint and the clear and the magic will happen
You could strip it and start over. When I redo this truck I will strip it down.
because he is showing us the 2k. and like in this video and other videos he is going to do a real paint job on the box later, again this is just for demonstration purposes.... trip of the day is, you have to listen before you leap onto the keyboard
Opinion? Spray bombs cheaper? I want to debunk the fact that they are cheaper than spraying with a spray gun.
youd done that so much quicker with a small compressor..
Oh I agree, I was trying to show the guys that dont have a compressor or spray gun, it's much easier!!
I can see the orange peel in the title pic....not professional results....you are fired sir....buy a paint gun
I have several thousand dollars in paint guns lol, watch the next video where I cut and buff it and make it look like a custom paint job. You should try spraying with the turbo spray can it dumps paint like a 3.0 tip lol I'll drop the link below!

@@ACDesignsGarage ok. Yeah, anything can be sanded smooth and buffed slick with enough material. Doesn't make it fun. I'd rather lay down glass and nib the dirt specs but I'm lazy
Good old copying someone else's design on a paint shaker hope they don't find out 👀👀👀
Not really, that's like saying ford copied honda because they both make cars. They both do the same thing but looks different.
👍Looks good! My hand hurts watching you! Lol! 🩹
Hahahahaha
