I had my charger painted by Earl Sheib in the winter of 1987. back then it was $99.95. It was winter in the northeast and they were running a special. got the car painted for 50 bucks! Hemi Orange! I was so happy!

I had a Datsun 240z that i just finished restoring and I had a mural painted on the hood. I took it to a party and chick I had a crush on sat on the fender and laid back on the hood and it caved in. It took everything I had to hold back from loosing it and she was apologizing like crazy and everyone who seen it was like holy f**k. I popped the hood and hit it with my hand from the back side and it popped right out and you could not even tell it happened but she avoided me for the rest of the night. Years later I think the car saved me for the right woman and her and I wound up rolling it but she still married me and we have been together for more than 35 years now. I sure miss that car though.
800 grit sanding and shoot eastwood clear 3 coats it will look great

I would imaine its Not so kuch worried about the neighbors as the cops...
If the cops happen to be in the area - or even if that one busy body neighbor calls the cops amd they show up, they can't do anything if they don't see you actually driving or whatever...
Also, speaking from experience, d you're driving around, loud and dangerous for a minute or so, most neighbors don't care... it's when you do it over and over and over and over for a long period of time that starts to get on their / our nerves.

I had that done many years back. The job was actually great at the time. Only cause, I sanded down my ride myself. Maco just did the paint work. Came out straight and lasted for years. Right to the point where I sold my ride. ✌️
There’s a local family owned body shop here in Riverside California called Economy Paint, they will still paint a car starting at $500-$600. Not their best work but it’s decent and better than rattle cans lol.

Anybody says you can't spray paint a car and get a decent finish is full of crap I painted a 1939 Ford pickup truck hot rod 8 years ago with Rust-Oleum black spray paint keep in mind it never has been in the garage it only sits outside in the hot California Desert Sun and still looks damn good

You should try setting the cans in some hot hot water before you spray to see if it helps.

I know a similar story to the one about the hood.
Only this is about a british kit car called a scamp. Those were based on the original mini and some early ones had a plywood hood...

Your dad's side is better because hs was going in the one direction for most of his spraying. You were going lengthwise, up and down and across.

Throw a couple more coats then wet sand and throw some gloss clear on it the wet sand and buff and it wouldn’t be a half bad cheap paint job. How long it’ll last is another question entirely.

I'm not a real fan of those Cameros... but any car you can jump in an roast the tires, I am a fan of. Glad to see a done stamp on there.
Now that you have a solid black base coat, it would be really cool to see you hit it with a cheap clear coat with pearl in it like the RUclipsr GT’s Performance does with his rustoleum/eye candy pigments series. For $69 in a gallon of cheap eBay clear, and $25 for some eye candy pigments on Amazon. I’d really love for you to show what a turbo can+pearl clear job can look like with minimal effort and budget.
Considering a gallon kit of single stage is $200 these days, I think the rustoleum+clear/pearls for color is the move for painting cheap cars these days. ($60 turbo cans, $69 clear, $25 pearl = $154) and I guarantee it’ll look cooler than a solid single stage
