    You are spot on with the advice. My husband just got me some iron skillets and I have been taking iron pills since I was 13... yeah it is not fun.. with transfusions and so on... but we survive with proper care. Now 27 years later... I am still surviving. I do tea/coffee rinses which help with the shedding and hair loss and also taking my medications. ;)

    When taking iron supplements or eating iron rich foods, always consume with vitamin C. Vitamin C helps iron absorption. I take my iron with vitamin C pills as I don't want to drink orange juice, because I try and mainly just drink water all day (because iron pills and constipation) I also have an iron rich smoothie (look up iron rich fruit & veg) and add orange juice to it as well as water.

    On point again! I'm a clinical pharmacist, and the animation and content are on point. One other iron rich source that I've taken in the past is Black Strap Molasses. It's full of minerals including iron. I take a tablespoon in a green smoothie and try not to take it with dairy products since its absorption can be inhibited by Calcium rich foods or food that contains phytates such as grains. Even learned something about the oxygen applied externally to the scalp. Thanks Green Beauty!!

I've felt horrible cold hands and feet,ect. my hair hasn't fallen out but it is growing slower than usual.I bought the mega food blood builder off Amazon. don't drink milk or tumeric it stops iron abortion ..no dairy no turmeric if you're anaemic !....better eat spinach and kale every day and take a Iron supplement like liquid iron bottle from Germany ! called Floradix formula , take two or three large spoon a day ! ;www.florahealth.com/product_categories.cfm?category_id=4&prod_id=87 This iron supplement will not make you constipated and no side affects . its called Floradix formula ..I take it every day plus a diet high in Iron .organic dried apricots , spinach , kale also are high in iron .

    I absolutely loved your video. It's the best I've seen on hair loss anemia. I found out years ago I was anemic. I pretty much ignored it and figured I was still functioning so...eh... whatever. BUT.... I have always had thick, voluminous hair. In the last 3 to 4 years, my hair has fallen out so much, I was in a state of panic. I thought it was hereditary, but then when I recently went for a checkup & finally felt comfortable enough to talk to my doctor about the hair loss, she told me that based on my bloodwork, the untreated anemia was the culprit. Now in my 40s, I'm taking this very seriously with Ferrous Sulfate to build up my iron/ferratin levels, blood builders for iron, B12 & Vitamin C to help with absorption, and Vitamin D supplements. As someone who has been healthy her entire life, taking daily vitamins is a new experience, but I was at the point where my energy was so low, I couldn't even get myself out of bed some days. Now I feel much healthier & stronger. Please continue making these informative videos. They are very helpful and well done.

    Loved this video! Could you make an updated video about specifically Iron deficiency and how the body absorbs iron. One thing that I have come across is that the reason why people are deficient isn't because they aren't taking in enough Iron but it is because their body isn't able to absorbed the iron as well as others. Also their are different types of iron that increase absorption and the iron found in vegetables are not as easily absorbed by the body as iron found meat. For vegetarians and vegans this is extremely important to be aware of. My iron got dangerously low when I went vegan even though I was consuming spinach and kale smoothies like no one's business. I know vitamin C helps with absorption and calcium blocks absorption. Spinach is also rich in calcium so this might explain why. There's just so much more info on this topic that could help people like me who have experienced hair loss because of iron deficiency.

    Just finding this video on RUclips. Great video, but would request doing a follow up to discuss Ferratin stores and how far along in IDA you have to be for your iron stores to be depleted from nails and hair to the point of breakage, brittleness and black lines (in your nails). This doesn’t clarify that simply having anemia does not mean that your hair will automatically break and your nails will be brittle. Those are symptoms of severe and long-term untreated anemia. As someone that has gone through this and who also has sickle-cell trait/anemia, I think it’s a worthy follow up.
    Great content.

  • @katydid93
    @katydid93 3 года назад +3

    I learned from my doctor today that not all iron is the same. You need to compare the mg of “elemental iron” in the supplement. For example, ferrous fumerate is 33% elemental iron by weight, ferrous sulfate is 20% and ferrous gluconate is 12%. Please do not just increase your iron intake by what someone is posting that they take. If you take 40 mg of elemental iron but someone else is taking 325 mg of ferrous gluconate, you are taking approx. the same amount of iron.

      The most important thing is to get your anemia in check by doing the things suggested in the video (iron supplements, iron skillet, daily wheatgrass shots, etc.). For you hair externally, try coating your scalp with onion juice on wash days. A video on all the science behind the benefits of onion juice will be uploaded on February 2nd. I'll also give you a stronger recipe and show you how to use it correctly. So please stay tuned. In the meantime, I strongly suggest you work on yourself internally to reverse your anemia ... b/c if you don't fix the source your hair will keep deteriorating. I hope this helps :-)

      +Queen Sea The only way to loosen your curl pattern is through chemical processing, like relaxing, and texturizing. There is no natural way to loosen your curl pattern. You are better off embracing your kinks since that's what you were blessed to have. All kinds of things can happen with those chemicals.

    • @cexra2077
      @cexra2077 8 лет назад +1

      Cindy99765 Queen Sea Actually I heard that coconut milk has proven to loosen the curl pattern overtime (slowly and not dramatically, just by a letter or two). However, you can do manipulation styles to get big curls like 2b/3b,c/4a. If you have 4c hair like me it may be a hassle to go outside with my natural hair curl pattern due to knottings and single strand knots etc. So I manipulate my hair texture to either have big curls or tight curls. I love my natural hair texture but I will never perform a wash n go (hair style that shows the beauty of everyone's true texture) due to the maintenance, it also helps me to retain length.

    I have love your channel for years! Is there a science behind Scarring Alopecia? I know that it is not well understood but it so frustrating trying to have healthy hair but my body doesn't want me to. My hair is stuck at a awkward length and I want to wear it out more or even do twists but because of the big shiny patches it's impossible for me to feel comfortable wearing my hair in that style.

    yeah...I have to take iron supplements for my iron deficiency anemia. It wouldn't be so bad if the iron didn't make me constipated like a mf! 😖😖😖

      Candace Shade all I drink is water and I never get constipated taking iron. How much iron do you take?

    • @SharleyPaul
      @SharleyPaul 7 лет назад +4

      Candace Shade Probably because you are relying on the supplements alone. Your diet has to come first and the iron pills supplement your diet. Drink more water. Also research Floradix, I swear by it!

      Sam I got prescribed 45mg from my doctor 6 months ago and supposed to go back for another blood test..probably to see if the boost helped and then the dosage could be reduced. I do believe I'm NOT drinking enough water.

    • @TheCandycane973
      @TheCandycane973 7 лет назад

      Sharley Paul i def will look it up but, yesss girl..I relied on them too much. I had to slow down in the isles at Shoprite and look for that iron on the nutritional labels Lol I take the 45mg every two days now and working on increasing the water...can people overdose on iron???

    hi ,
    I had a question concerning anemia and curl pattern. I have notice that the hair at my crown and front of my hair have no curls but more of a wave almost straight. I haven't applied heat or color my hair since October 7 2016, so I'm assuming it's not heat/color damage hair. Can anemia be the cause of that? the back and my side's are very curly.
    Please help

    Great video.....just a shame you didn't explain the difference between heme iron and non heme iron and that heme iron from animal foods is far superior and if you are drinking tons of green juice like I was and your hair condition is not improving then you might want to try red meat and liver🤔

    dang...um I think i had really low blood iron cause when I went to get my blood checked the nurse thought the machine was broken because my iron thing was really low (I'm not really experienced in medical stuff I'mjust telling you from what I experienced) and she checked it again and thought the machine was actually broken she said that she would send it to the lab and sent me home and she called my dad and told him that the machine was actually correct, I think it was really bad cuz she told me to take iron pills that had 60 mg and told me to take it every single day and im 13 right now (i think i was 11 or 12 back then) i didn't take the pills cause the first week it made my head really hurt and now i think i have anemia because my nails are really bendable and my hair is thin thin like almost falling out think. i think im gonna go to the doctor to get checked up again i don't think after 1 or 2 years i recovered cause im still experiencing symptoms i was experiencing back than and my eyelashes have been falling out like 1 a day or 2 and my eyes are really irritated.

    Fun fact: 95% of iron in spinach is inaccessible due to the cellulose in the leaf. Last I checked, the most bio-available source of iron is red meat.

      Everyone is different. Some people with Anemia, experience the worse case of symptoms and some people have no symptoms. If that nurse checked your hemoglobin levels and confirmed that you are anemic, even though the symptoms are silent, its something you should pay attention to and reverse.

    I’ll be getting a blood test soon to see if my iron is low. However recently I experienced extra shedding which has never been an issue for me before. My hairs been a lot thinner for about 1 year but I just didn’t realise it was until I experienced extra shedding. My diet has also been better in the last 6 months and I’ve been drinking more water and taking multivitamins so is it possible that my hair shedding can still be due to low iron? I am pale but I’ve always been pale, easily out of breath after doing a little bit of “heavy” work, I sometimes randomly get headaches. Can my hair shedding be due to low iron considering it’s never happened to me before and I’ve not had any new symptoms?
