Thanks for the review Travis! I appreciate your thoughts on this pistol. It sure is flat shooting, like you pointed out. 👍
I actually bought one about a month ago cause of your videos. I am a Glock guy and this is my first S&W striker fired guns. I am not disappointed. It’s been great. The trigger is awesome and it’s run flawlessly so far with about 800 rounds thru it. Thanks
Glock is a striker fire so it's your 2nd one not first
@@tigergray1100 no once again this is my first SMITH & WESSON striker fired gun. I’ve had S&W 1911s and other companies I’ve had striker fired guns. But my first S&W striker fired gun
@@tigergray1100It would behoove you to take a remedial comprehension class.
@@robertthomas7239lolsss Jesus Christ
Not sure how you misunderstood him...Smith makes a lot of guns, and he was specifying that this was his first striker gun from Smith.@@tigergray1100
Awesome! Thanks for sharing. Love that thunder in the forest. Great video. Keep up the great work.
Travis it's a pleasure to watch you run, that reload is so smooth and fast 🙂🔫
More videos Travis this is awesome content! Really appreciate your expert perspective and insight 💪🏽
For what it's worth, the plastic optic plates suffer from elastic deformation under recoil (and eventually non-recoverable plastic deformation) and the recoil lugs/bosses molded into the plastic essentially do nothing. This means that the mounting screws endure a tremendous amount of sheer stress (back and forth momentum) to keep the optic in place during recoil. Eventually the screws can just sheer off. The 10mm M&P has been notorious for doing this. A metal mounting plate allows the recoil lugs to sustain all sheer forces and the screws only hold tension. There has been a number of stories of guys getting hit in the head with their optic as it flies off the plastic plate.
Your video sold me on the Competitor. Love it. Got some upgrades; had the barrel ported by Floyds, got the Apex trigger and the Holosun Comp. It’s the sweetest gun.
Always a pleasure to watch seasoned military veterans review firearms. Love your honesty too
My EDC is a 2.0 compact with a Blackhawk Stache. Great combo in the Fl.heat.
Great video. And unlike a lot of gun tubers, no arrogance in your tone. I have the CZ Shadow 2, another great gun for the price, but I’m looking to pick up the S&W two-tone as well.
How does it compare to the shadow 2? I'm going to buy one of these
@@BrandonLee_7123 I’m in a state where you can only buy a handgun a month so the S&W is still on the to-do list.
The Shadow 2 is probably one of the most under priced guns especially if you get it when PSA is selling it for $900. Between the air-lite trigger and tank like build, everyone calls it the cheaters gun for a reason. Hope you get one.
Cool to see your channel, found you on the Shawn Ryan interview. Looking forward to more reviews. Any thoughts on the M17?
I have one and it's awesome!
Looks like a nice firearm. I like the two tone version.
Gorgeous 2 tone finish
Well done!
We seem to be at a crossroads where many manufacturers want to give you the red dot “option”, but don’t want to embrace that fully with raised sights out of the box. I’d be a millionaire if I had a dollar for every time I read “will this red dot co-witness with my gun?” on forums. I don’t know a lot about competition shooting, maybe this is the normal setup? In any case, it’s not a deal breaker for me, I’ll definitely be trying this pistol out on the range. Thanks for the review!
If you look at their duty focused optics ready 2.0s, you’ll see them with suppressor height sights since redundancy is more important there, but on a competition focused gun, you’ll generally see standard height sights. Competition shooters generally don’t want suppressor height sights if they are shooting irons. And when they shoot optics in competition, they rely wholly on the dot, so there isn’t a need for the sight system redundancy. Plus, they don’t actually want irons blocking any of the sight picture through the dot. Actual open class race guns don’t have irons. For duty/self defense applications, the ability to cowitness is much more important.
@@InfuriatedHawk Thanks for clarifying that!
I got one a while back and I love it. The fit to my hand is unbelievable. One thing I'm not happy with is the sight setup. For the price point, they crapped the bed on the sights. Absolutely terrible for low viz conditions. You have a tiny, half lit fiber dot on an all blacked out rear sight. Gotta upgrade asap.
Travis you look like a guy who bumps linkin park , creed , and nickel back. Love the gun reviews brother thank you 🙏
It's a really cool gun👍. Can you tell me what red dot you used? Is it a height that does not interfere with front and rear shots? thank you
Not sure if this was answered already but, what brand of ammunition were you using for the M&P ??
My 1.0 Pro series has the port hole and I’ve never had issues with it. I actually like that I can look into it and see if there’s brass in there. I don’t think it’s a negative.
It has a tendency to blow gas into the red dot.
Calculated Kinetics makes the “Dogtag” metal optic plate that has a shelf which covers the port hole on the M&P.
Great review. What holster works with the competitor?
I've seen them in Safariland holsters.
Great review! Need to try one now
I think for $999 out the box this is a heck of a deal for people like me who are just starting competing with 9mm from the .22Lr world.
For instance a race gun will set you back $1,500-$10,000. And it won’t have the features this gun does.
I am between two guns M&P competitor and New M&P 2.0 5in FDE optic ready with the same trigger what would you run? it would just be a full size range gun Also I dig the early 2000s rock you play in the videos takes me back lol
Not the same trigger. The competitor has the performance center enhanced trigger and the FDE one has the standard “flat” 2.0 trigger.
Can someone tell me if the end of the barrel is custom, if not, what model is it?
Who makes the holster? The biggest reason I dint go with that pistol is I couldn't find a drop leg holster. I thought that was a bummer since I loved they way the gun felt in my hand. If I can find a holster, I'll be picking one up.
I have an M&P Shield M2.0, but it doesn't have red dot sight nor the muzzle flash cover (I know that's not the name for that, but I forgot) lol 😂. Very sweet gun to own.
Is it easy to do a double tap on this gun out of the box?
If you can, please do a feature. Thanks
What holster are you using with that?
I prefer this over my staccato. This thing is amazing rounds touching at 25 M.
Hello I am interested in buying one of these. I saw it in my local gun shop. I was reading a review on RUclips. How does it shoot? 115 grain ball ammo someone had said that his slides will not lock open on the last round with 115 grain
I run the scs from holosun and it allows you to use your iron sights as co witnesses and you can swap the mag release to the left side that’s what I had to do
I was using the SCS and switched to the Holosun 507 Comp. I love the huge window and it’s so much better than the SCS and my transitions are smoother. Just a thought
@@Mr3dperformance I still like being able to cowitness with the scs since there aren’t any option for the comp slide and suppsor height sights
I live in Texas, would this be a good first gun? That I could carry on my person?
Great review just picked one up. What holster do you run?
Blackhawk L2C
@@TravisKennedy267Love to see detailed breakdown of your full belt and gear setup! Sure many others would too
Please give us a video of your Cano Corso he's awesome
Curious why the 10yd zero? Comp purposes only maybe??
Thinking this will be my carry pistol
Thank you very much for your review. I ordered one for my local gun shop based on your review PS how does it. Function on 115 gr ball ammo like blazer ..fiocchi 115 etc. How does a cycle?
Great video Travis hey you should do a video on the smith and wesson m&p shield plus
That train has come and gone. I had one and liked it, but it was replaced by a S&W 2.0 Compact.
This would make a perfect first gun for me if only legal in CA.
Hmmmm, this or the PDP Pro Sd???
Agree lack of co witness with rds is a con. The front strap rattles, which is annoying.
I love mine, but the port hole in the barrel hood is annoying. The optics plate from CHPWS is awesome. Co-witness sights are unnecessary for range toys or competition.
What holster are you using? I’m trying to find one for it
Blackhawk L2C, it is not originally designed for the competitor however it is designed for the M&P2.0
@@TravisKennedy267 okay, thank you so much. Just got one because of this and can’t find a holster 😂
Great review.
However without being sponsored by S&W would you buy this gun with the spec sheet that is provided?
Keep up the great videos 📹.
The plastic optic plates do have issues. So do yourself a favor and get an after-market plate if you go with the 2.0's. Also, you failed to mention the D you shanked low left on that last set of ten at 25 yards.
I’m running the same model I think it’s worth it. I’ll be using it at our regional law enforcement academy starting this month. Are you know running This line now? I’ve seen you pretty much running Glocks? Keep up the Great work and stay true to your beliefs. 🙏🏽💪🏽👍🏽
The reason they don't put suppressor height sights from factory is because its made for competition. If the shooter chooses to run iron sights, they need a good set of iron sights. If you are running an optic, the iron sights are irrelevant, and no one wants to feel up their glass with back up irons.
Lets talk about the fit of the grip panels.
Are your loose also?
@philsalamone8945 very annoying that it's not tight
Will you be able to conceal carry it?
Of course. Proper holster and belt. And as long as you're not a pussy lol. Imagine if you had to use your edc to defend your life, would you rather have a sig 365, or this monster lol. Carry the biggest gun you can
Folks, if you don't have consistent quality control in the manufacturing process, then you have big problems. Some people have no problem with their pistols, some have nothing but problems with theirs. I'm not willing to take the chance and will wait until S&W gets the bugs out. There is a growing problem keeping/getting experienced employees in the workplace, everyone is short staffed, product quantity& quality has and will suffer.
👍👍
My plate broke in under 300 rounds on a brand new gun, sheared the screws off .. sent it back to Smith and Wesson. They have had it for 2 months & haven't even touched the gun.
What holster did you run for this?
Blackhawk L2C
Thanks, hey anyone ever tell you that you look like the young george thorogood.. I’m bad to the bone to man 😂
WHAT RED DOT ARE YOU USING?
Trijicon RMR
@@TravisKennedy267 Thanks.
AUD$1800.00 in Oz
who does your tattoos? looks sick!
Damn i do armed security.. i am getting one of these for my duty gun.😮
Why is the plastic plate a con if it works…. A lot a reviewers say this but if it works it works🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️🤷🏾♂️
Algorithm buster
Rip to all those poor pine trees.... and whoever is over that hill. Build a backstop.
Lead is good for trees
Can you not see he is on a decline? The massive hill he's on is a natural backstop ya goof. Go Karen someone else.
Really. The cameraman in front of firearm when shooting. This is an absolute badic safety issue.
Camera can be on a pole or some other type of offset.
I honestly dont see anything special about the competitor. It has the same trigger. Doesn't have a barrel comp. Lightning cuts are nice but without the comp'd barrel and a better trigger, its not worth the extra money. Just a dressed up 2.0 with a metal slide and a mag well. It looks cool tho.
I love my s&w mp but as soon as you said thanks to smith and Wesson for providing this gun this review lost all credibility to me 🤣
Sheesh, I was excited to watch this and it was very boring video.
This gun is trash. I put 5k on mine in a few months. As a competitive shooter that gun makes zero sense and is way over priced. Much better off with a Shadow 2 at that price point
Canik Rival S is a better weapon.
Hello Travis, I would like to know I purchased the same gun would like to know what brand of red dot sight do you have on yours so I could purchase same one thank you please let me know
Alright, so people who've had an issue with the mounting system, Sage Dynamics. Pretty sure he posted a picture on Instagram of an optic that was completely off center due to the mounting system failing.
