I have the same problem with the Smith&wesson. I have the regular metal but the slide to frame fit was sooo loose i took it right back to the gun shop and they exchanged it, the newer one was much better but its still very loose. I called Smith&wesson and they said send it back but it was going to take several month before they got it back and I've heard a few others say they sent them back and they said nothing is wrong and sent it back without doing anything. This was my first smith and it may be my last tbh. And i mounted holosun and 10 yards in its ok but anything about 15 and more the accuracy was terrible. My groupings were 12 inches apart.. so i agree with everything you said in this video because i experienced first hand.

This review is a S&W hater review. This pistol is being used by many professional competition shooters all over and they love it. Plus look up the world competition champion Jerry Miculek Jr is an American professional competition shooter. LOOK IT UP. He loves this pistol! For every one hater on this pistol there are five videos of lovers.

@@ronaldwilliams3495 Jerry is paid to love it. He could out shoot 99 percent of shooters with a hi point. It's the Indian not the arrow. If you really think that Smith and Wesson is superior to a CZ Shadow 2 or a Canik Rival steel frame it's because you have not used them.

@@ronaldwilliams3495I disagree. I have the Competitor and everything he says here is a problem with mine as well. My red dot visibly shifts position when the trigger is pulled. Front grip rattles and is loose from the factory. Trigger is meh. Base plates on the mags to work with the magwell are just dumb the way they did it. I wanted to love the Competitor since I love that it’s made in the US and love the grip texture, but it has too many drawbacks for me to keep long term.

Thanks for the honest and objective review on both of these guns. I am a little older guy and I am not a competition shooter and I do not shoot as precise as you do. When I was younger I would not buy anything except for a Smith and Wesson, however when I got back into guns a few years ago I found myself purchasing other brands and to this day I have not purchased a Smith and Wesson product. I did purchase a Canik SFX rival with the polymer frame just a couple days ago and after shooting just 30 rounds through it I could tell that it was an awesome gun. I’d go to gun ranges at times just to try out different guns and I am not a big polymer frame striker kind of a guy, but this Canik has greatly impressed me and I found myself shooting it a little better than my Beretta 92X which is the gun that I usually shoot the best. I would like to say that I think that this video is kind of sad in the sense that I would rather give my money to an American company however if they want my business they are going to have to provide me with an equal to or superior product and unfortunately today smith and Wesson does not provide that. The only thing I disagreed with you about is that there are several times you say this is just your opinion and I actually believe that it is not an opinion but it is a fact based upon your experience in testing with these guns. As I leave I would like to caution you that it has being brought to my attention that Smith and Wesson sent a sniper out to take care of you, however he was unsuccessful because his m&p jammed up and he was unable to fulfill his mission lol😜

I bought both of these within two weeks of each other. Biggest issue is the grip size. I can shoot the M&P easily with my small hands. The Canik is still big using the smallest backstrap. The Canik has the extra weight to stay a bit more steady in rapid shooting, feeling close to my Staccato XL. Now I just need to get the Canix to fit and I’ll be good to go. The Canik trigger is at 3lbs stock. I bought the Overwatch Precision for the Competitior to get it to the same weight. Wish the Canik had a trigger that was closer back to the shooter. The angle out is so far, it makes for a stretch to get on it.

Excellent comparison and very valid points. I've slowly become a fan of Canik. They seem to have made it habitual to listen to their consumer and make improvements with every release. ( as every company should). Though better on the metal, S&W still struggles to get the trigger right on their models. Other than material, the metal has nothing over their polymer versions. Anesthetics are nice but fit, finish and function are even more important, IMO. The fact you can't use the other M&P mags without having to change the baseplates is also a negative. Good vid2o. Subbed👍

I also owned the same two guns. My Smith and Wesson went back to the factory 3 times for repair in the first 6 months of ownership. Smith never repaired or fixed anything.. I called the second time and asked did you read my letter that was in the box with the gun ?
The responce from the service shop guy was " We rarely read the leters with our repair guns, the letters usually get lost....we just shoot a clip of bullets to see if the gun works and we send it back !!
I said this is my second time back and the letter was attached to the service request and emailed to the service shop. "We don't pay much attention to those letters, we shot a clip of bullets downrange and sent it back". I said this is your Performance Center Gun, supposed to be the cream of the crop for Smith and Wesson and you never attempted to fix the slide YAW movememtn issue ?
So a third trip back and no change, I dumped this brand new gun on the used gun market and purchased a CANIK RIVAS S , it is easily twice the gun that the Smith and Wesson produced. My last purchase from S&W

I've tried to claim the warranty here in Australia, but the supplier tested it and said it's entirely under the factory standard which is 6 inches at 25 yards. I was like "is it a competition gun? My Glock 17 has better accuracy than this one." I'm gonna like to like the canik asap....

  • @raymillsap8613

You're right on target. I bought a canik rival sfx, none steel last month. 2 weeks later, I bought the Smith and wesson m&p competitor. I have an m&p first generation that I won at a shoot. Accuracy was terrible. I had to have a bar sto barrel fitted. Corrected this issue. Also had to install an apex trigger. If I had bought the gun, I'd have been angry. Anyway, I thought Smith and Wesson would have addressed these issues. I've been playing with both. The rival puts most ammunition inside 2 inches at 50 feet. And when you feed it what it likes one ragged hole. The competitor is over 4 inches with some ammo. So far, the best group at 50 ft is 2 inches. I'm shooting all from the bench off the sand bag. I also reload. So I've tried a variety of bullet weights and speeds. Oh, and the front panel on my Smith is just like yours. I'll also add that when the Smith and wesson 929 9mm revolver first came out I bought that. I'm a revolver guy at heart. I checked it out at the store before buying. There were several reports of overclooked barrels, poor timing, and cylinder gap. None of these were present. Bought it took it home disassembled to polish internals. The detent ball that locks up the cylinder was missing. Sent it in, and they repaired it, no problem. But this is like the competitor is coming from the performance center. Supposedly, the best in their offerings. Really sad.

Thank you for your comment. I am sorry to hear you are having similar issues. I have purchased two Smith & Wesson revolvers and the M&P Competitor recently and all three have had substantial issues. I will be staying away from them in the future. I have always stood up for them in the past but it appears quality control is on the decline. If that does not get corrected they will be the next Remington.

@@TheFullNeilson HEY! But if it moves CONSISTENTLY... : ) *EDIT: Watching the video now, and see that it's intermittent... NOT good!*
Biggest thing I noticed on my new M&P (SKU 13567) is the UP and DOWN movement of the slide vs. frame at the muzzle... can't say it's happening during firing, but I noticed it during initial inspection. The recoil spring keeps the slide pushed up, but if you put your thumb under the trigger guard and middle finger on top of the slide and squeeze gently, I see quite a bit of slop (haven't measured it yet, but maybe .030" - .040"?). I did check for the sideways movement on mine after you mentioned it, and mine does it too, though that seems minor compared to the up-and-down play, though THAT is actually greater at the muzzle as well, since the nearest frame rail is at mid-point.
I'm telling myself that, as long as it's consistent (i.e., the recoil spring should keep it tensioned upward until ignition), it shouldn't be a big issue. But I'd RATHER the tolerance be less!
I REALLY LIKE the pistol otherwise, except for the "loaded chamber port" spewing powder residue ALL OVER MY OPTIC LENS! E-mailed S&W about this three weeks ago, but heard nothing back yet; CC'ed Miculek about a week later, and, nothing from him, either. There is NO REASON FOR THE PORT, since you can see brass through the SIDE by the extractor!

You don't understand the issue. The play itself is not the problem it's the fact that it walks when the striker falls. Meaning you can visibility see the sights move a considerable amount when the striker falls. If this does not create accurately issues it certainly ruins dry fire practice because you can no longer distinguish between a flinch and the gun. None of the 25 Glocks I have owned have that. No striker fired handgun I have ever shot does that.

    Glock 34 gen 5 > S&W competitor?

    • @TheFullNeilson
      @TheFullNeilson  Год назад +2

I owned both and I still have the Glock. If you want a race gun I think they are both poor choices. I would rather have a Canik Rival steel frame or a CZ Shadow 2. For a large carry or duty gun I would rather have the Glock 34 Gen 5. Slide to frame fit is better, mags are cheaper, trigger reach is better, and I find I can keep both hands on the gun easier with the Glock. The Smith and Wesson looks better though. If the slide to frame fit on my competitor had not been so sloppy as to cause major issues with dry fire practice, and accuracy with live fire, I would have kept the gun. I have purchased 3 Smith and Wesson Firearms in the last 3 months. All of them went back to the factory for repair. It is unlikely I will own another one in this lifetime. I have owned 20-30 Glocks and never had an issues with any of them.

This video is an objective review of someone who owned both handguns and compared them. Jerry gets paid to shill for Smith and Wesson. He promotes alot of garbage products and so do a lot of other competition shooters. It's part of the game.

I feel like you got a lemon in the Metal 2.0.. Now that is totally a quality issue, but I shot the Canik TP9 combat and the M&P2.0 metal and decided on the metal after a few hours of shooting! 2500ish rounds on mine and love it! I also have the non competition version but I can't imagine it being much different.

I’m surprised with the issues you’re experiencing with the M&P Competitor. The fit/finish, trigger, reliability and accuracy has been fantastic with mine. The only issue I’ve had is with the loose front strap, which is easily fixed with Loctite 380 Max adhesive. I admit I’m biased and won’t buy Turkish made firearms.

Smith and Wesson should be embarrassed by that case for the gun. The foam they used looks like trash. It’s like storing your nice car in a wood shed.

When Smith spits out a proper pistol, it's insanely reliable and dead accurate. But for some reason, they seem to he inconsistent. Canik has had some consistency issues as well, but they are trying their best to grow and succeeding. I won't be buying a Canik anytime soon, but I can understand why other people are purchasing them.

Caniks have a stupid grip on them.
Like someone just shaved down a 2x4.
    Trigger is nice.
    That’s about it.
One of the most dirtier guns I have had.
For the price of a Canik it’s a good deal.
    But their grips are atrocious

Canik how can we copy other gun manufactures, stealing the Walther PPQ design, and produce it cheaper in Turkey. Shot the M&P metal this weekend and it shoots great. All things being the same, I’d buy the M&P. Love my PPQ too. Not a fan of companies that steal designs, example all the Turkish shotguns.

I carry the S&W Metal Comp as my duty pistol and I've never had a single issue with it or any that you're nitpicking on, I'd tell you flat to your face you're bluntly incorrect and this review is skewed

    • @TheFullNeilson
      @TheFullNeilson  11 месяцев назад +3

And I would tell you flat out to your face it's not marketed as a duty pistol it is market as a competition pistol. It's in the name of the pistol. As a result comparing it to other competition pistols and reviewing as such seems fitting. You missed the entire point of the comparison and managed to attached your ego to your firearm. I suspect you do not own a Canik Rival S or a CZ Shadow 2 for comparison. If you did you would understand what I am talking about. Now if you want to talk about a good duty gun that's a totally different conversation. I am glad you found a duty gun you like. Have a nice day.

@TheFullNeilson LOL brainless reply, nice try at a gotcha. It wins competitions regularly and its good enough for duty, every little whiny complaint of yours would be tested in the field and has been. Go clutch your pearls, I don't think guns are for you princess. I could dismantle everything you complained about pretty easily. Hell even the last time I used it in comp in June I shot Range High and that was even against Caniks. You don't seem well informed at all

I'll take my tisas px9 gen3 duty ANY day OVER my s&w 40cal for a edc smith is totally unreliable jams doesn't always fall into battery and stovepipe like crazy but it was my 1st pistol and I'll never sell it for that reason alone. Other then that my Turkish gun is reliable as all get out and smooth as silk. Both were around the same price

I see what your saying about the canik though they seem to be a very good choice sounds like smith and wesson should just come out with a gen 2 of that gun to fix some of the down falls of the smith .personally I hate timney trigger they are unreliable. If I was a competition shooter I may give them more of a chance but my guns are for in case I need to use them for a more tactical situations and I swear smith got confused with that gun between duty and competition.
