Sorry I couldn't make it through the entire soap opera. Let me recap. You were given the opportunity to be a seal, a position that people would cut off their rt nut for. Despite being a SEAL you thought it was ok to get into a barroom fight. Your country slaps your wrist and your retained. As soon as the limelight was taken off you do it again. Despite the crimes committed you got a general discharge. What a "gift" You were so grateful you traveled to Europe to join a Military group that is not the U.S's
We all screw up. You placed your needs above the SEALS twice. I understand and can relate with it all, except your lack of accountability. The Legion is an option, and maybe it will help you get it together. Sir you are not a SEAL. A SEAL would not draw his mates into any controversy. The reason you were not jailed or given LTHD is because they wanted to be rid of you ASAP. You know what I'm saying is fact. What do you think happens when your C.O. has to explain to the DOD why Special Forces has a troop that can't follow basic rules and runs to another country. The DOD would want to know why the C.O. allowed this to happen how good of a leader can he be? Your telling your story to find some sort of resolution or maybe a pat on the back, but you're still placing your needs above the righteous SEALS. You go join the military in another country ok, but do it alone. All that was given to you wasn't enough. If it were you wouldn't be here on RUclips. Good Luck, if the Legion dumps you I'm sure you could go red.
I say this with great empathy, no-one will want you until you like yourself. Get of the drugs for good and get counseling and you will go so much farther, and find piece. And I think you deserve it and are worth it. Remember lose the I and use we instead. Best of luck Sir.

French citizen here… Thanks a lot for your videos. SEALs are world famous. Our Legion Étrangère is legendary here and also known in the whole world. When you meet legionnaires on their free time they are incredibly generous guys with « big hearts » as we say here. On duty they are phenomenal warriors respected and feared everywhere.
As a French guy as many others, much respect for being a SEAL. But being a Legionnaire, fighting for our country 🇫🇷 patroling for Vigie Pirate in my country hits completely differently. Tu es aussi francais maintenant ! I hope you ll find what you re looking for in The Legion and that you are enjoying France and our culture. Many thanks and respect for joining the Legion Étrangère. 🙏 🤙 🇫🇷

Woah, I was KFOR in 1999 too! Truck driver TFA 5000 as a civvy.... Skopje...etc and Pristina. Two of us fell asleep waiting for the convoy to move, it moved alright, but without us sleeping beauties. Woke up bang in nomansland, me in a 7.5t and this huge artic from....Slovakia..? We went to catch up the convoy at dawn, the Macedonian cops waved us to a parking lot full of civvy non KFORS, we would have been stopped there for effing days, but big truck from Slovakia just went in one entrance and out the other...I followed him we burnt down that road, eventually caught up with the convoy, being run and marshalled by a young Para Sargent and his squad, being MP's, showing more management expertise than the whole of the UN in their warm 4x4s with UN painted on pristine white sipping on Cappuccinos and writing shit on papers, phonies,
The Macedonian cops thought we had just jumped the convoy and took big guy to the cash machine ATM to fine his ass
but the young Para Sergent stood in and explained to the cops, in no uncertain terms, that we were part of our convoy. He had to negotiate and handled it well and won. Kudos to that young soldier, I'll never forget. I'd been driving alone forever, it was nice to be in the cosy convoy at last, protected by the Paras. We all made it to the TFA5000 site, the Americans were directing traffic on the roundabout. It was a freezing cold, misty morning, like something out of a war movie.
We arrived safely, I wanted brekky but just slept and slept. I woke at midnight and chatted with the guard - a military girl who was wearing double coats and clothing because she had double influenza and she was doing guard duty in -5degC, FFS! Respect!

Walking through a single door, handing over your passport, stripped of all worldly possessions and your identity. Saying farewell to your loved ones and your past. I'm 42 now, I ended up doing construction and unfortunately gotten addicted to benzos over the last few years. I'm kicking my addiction now for the last 3 weeks but my marriage just ended and wife got custody of my 3 kids. She's going back to her country in Brazil with my children. I'm done man, I need something back in my life I have nothing. I miss the comradery of the service. Will the French Foreign Legion take an old guy salty Dog with an OTH on my DD 214? "If we could see the future we'd be FUCKIN terrified." - such a good point. Everybody thinks if they could see the future it would be some sort of benefit...but man, I never thought about it like this. All the death, the hard shit you have to go through, etc... great point.
KEEP THESE VIDEOS UP!!! This is such a new and refreshing type of content - nobody talks about the Legion like this, from what seems to be the inside. I'm already hooked, brother.

I decided to post your last two videos to my Facebook because they send a message about being motivated, and not giving up on yourself even if you find yourself mired in a dark place. Maybe your story will be that kick in the ass someone else may need.
There is a difference in knowing you're in a dark place, and taking the first step to get out of that world of shit.
Keep on getting up in the morning and walking that walk all the way.

Get your French citizenship? Even if you do not want it now you might be glad you have it 30+ years. What does it hurt to try?
    Are you going to reup?
After 8 years doesn't the Legion help (and pay for) your civilian profession? Seems like a good deal.
Who knows maybe you meet a french girl, settle down have a family and years and years from now nobody believes the shit you went through as a young man.

Myself and others, i'm sure are past the age to take that journey into the French Foreign Legion, but there are other options to grow. Sometimes in order to gain, we have to leave behind everything we know. No seminar, book or DVD IOHO will teach one to go through and survive adversity but actually going through it. Thanks for sharing!

Impressive story. Even as a French, stepping into Foreign Legion is something that would be very impressive. I can't imagine how much courage it took coming from the US and having no alternatives. I like the way you tell it. It took me years to understand what you sum up in one sentence and is the key of your speech : "When you're serious about something, shut the fuck up and do it". And I like to think legion have helped you think straight. And forget about the drug crap. (They have their way to make you understand clearly what they think about it) I've met legionnaires when I was in French air force. The main quality I would put on them is honesty. It's hard, but you're never lied to. Hope it will help you get a new and good life as I feel you deserve. Good luck. Tiens, voilà du boudin ! :-)

Someone went to the Wes Watson school of RUclips videos... Looking forward to the rest of this story. The contrast between the Teams and the Legion (training & operations). The U.S. is foolish for not having a Foreign Legion. If the French Legion was able to attract a SEAL, we could attract Danish Jaegers, German KSK, Russian Spetznas, etc. Top U.S. units already cross-train with other Tier1&2 units, but an entire company of these guys mixed in, would be interesting.

very interesting story I've never heard of the french foreign legion before this. Thank you for your service and honesty. Good wisdom too: if you are serious about something. dont tell anybody, just do it. I would like to tell that the God you know exists has a name. His name is Yahweh and through Christ we all can know Him personally. He is the only friend that will never leave. "If I go up to the heavens, you are there; if I make my bed in the depths, you are there." Psalm 139:8. It sounds like He was there in France with you

Your story is inspirational and kinda like mine in some aspects. I did 3 1/2 years in the Army from 84 to 87. I was stationed in Germany 2/29th FA. I was an ammo driver. But I liked to party too.Of course it got me into trouble as well. Drunk & disorderly, DWI in a 10 ton army truck (HEMTT)
I eventually got popped on a piss test and they gave me a general discharged as well. I'll be 59 in May and my experience tells me that whenever I turn to medicating my problems, eventually problems will arise. Stay clean man, keep your head up snd continue doing the right thing. Greetings from Corpus Christi TX.
