LMAO... when I was going through selection in Aubagne, (1993) it seemed like every other candidate was claiming to be a bad-ass ex-mil, or combat sport champion of some kind... and then there was me, just left commercial fishing in Alaska, and a Slovak who was a train conductor, we were quiet and low profile just trying to make it through and figure what the hell was going on.
A couple years later, we were in Djibouti having a few Kro after finishing CECAP and laughing about how many of them never even made it selection and Castel! Good memories

I also joined the army for romantic reasons. After some time, I realized that this is a harsh school of life. I don’t regret anything, the instilled discipline, as well as the understanding that no one needs you except your family, these are absolutely necessary things.

I joined the Marine Corps after college. My test took place in the lane that God forgot, Officer Candidates School, Quantico. Started with 80 bubbas in my platoon. All college grads, a few active duty NCOs, and all highly physically fit. Graduated on/about 38 officer candidates. At that time, it was the mental test I needed. Prepared me to lead Marines in much more dangerous situations. Never had the opportunity to work with FFL. Did work closely with French Army officers in Afghanistan circa 2002. Ate meals with them, and visited their ISAF HQ camp at Kabul International AirPort

And the first time he states it loudly and clearly: "I'm a UNIQUE individual, not everybody looks like ME". I watched an interview you did on the Mike Ritland podcast recently. I was very inspired and impressed by the fight that you found within you to adapt and overcome every personal challenge you faced, including choosing life or death at one point when your personal situation became so desperate.
While our egos have a habit of causing us all to make bad decisions at various points in our lives getting us into challenging personal situations, not everyone has the internal fortitude to battle back and overcome these pivotal life moments. I have always been inspired by the underdog - in sports or in real life- who fights back against all odds. These are the stories that can even sometimes bring otherwise strong men to tears.
Thanks for the inspiring, raw, and honest story of your life quest to overcome your personal demons through your journey from the Navy Seals to the French Foreign Legion. My sincere wishes for good fortune and happiness through your exemplary discipline and ability to overcome personal hardships and pain. Much RESPECT man!

I love your message of knowing yourself and understanding your "why". I think many people set goals without thinking about why they want to do them. You don't want to be busy grinding towards a goal without having a true honest purpose of doing so. Otherwise, once you have completed that goal, you run the risk of feeling incomplete and a sense of now what. Love your stories. Great videos brotha, allot of people think that warfighters are just drones. When in reality, it takes focus and critical thinking to keep your brothers and yourself alive during combat. It's ok to be nervous. Thats actually a good thing. It means that you're self aware and alert. What separates normal people from the warfighter is that the warfighter can over come the nervousness and critically think during the pressure of combat. Again, you explained it perfectly. It takes all ability types to run an operation. When your unite is in sync and trust is built, it’s an unstoppable force. "All The Way!"

It’s really great to see how you are progressing with this channel. You keep getting better. It’s good to see you laugh a little. I like seeing your numbers go up on the subs. I’m glad that I got in on the bottom rung. At some point, maybe do a video about whether you are going to extend your contract or what your plans may be after your legion time ends. I’m sure you have ideas but don’t want you to get in trouble with the legion if you’re going to get out.

I have known and said before about the various types, the motivations and reasons for joining the Legion. Surely there are others, like you, could be wanting something to redeem their honor or proving others wrong by doing this.
I got to say one of the sad things about the Legion is that there are times they don't accept those even if they're passionate and motivated.

My man you are an exceptional human being the way you describe things is really charismatic, especially when you said don’t float into it. You reminded me of Arnold Schwarzenegger saying “if you float in life, you will always be lost”.
I have a friend who served there, and told me things in Paris are so dangerous they had to help policemen otherwise they couldn’t patrol certain areas!
Also, he begs me not to go, because it’s not what I thought, and there is a lot of certain nationalities that overwhelm the rest and basically do what they want regardless of their rank, I don’t know if this is true. What I do know for sure because I come from Cyprus which has a compulsory national service is that for sure army is not what you see in the pictures.

My Grandfather was a French Foreign Leigionair and a boxer for them; he fought with the in WWI, WWII and French Indochina (French Vietnam).
    Wish I did it.

TC story 22 was so interesting on the types and reasons why guys make that journey to join. Again I cannot imagine what the fk was going through you mind when taking all this in at the Legion selection process. Again at 61
years old with my own demons of policing in Toronto Ontario Canada for 30 years. Retired thank fk. I cannot explain how interesting I find your tutorials on life in the Legion.
I am getting ahead, however with a year left in your contract, I would like to know if you have plans to stay or move on from the Legion. I am sure that will be a later segment. Keep your head down and stay safe.
