As they say; it’s not how you start, but how you finish. It looks like you are on a good trajectory to finish well. I have a little over a decade on you, but I can definitely relate to how things were back in the day. Your message of positivity and self reflection is much needed in today’s world. Much respect!

    Used to work security watching
    suicidal patients
in hospitals. Some of the patients were only 6 and 7 years old !.. soon as you would
meet the parents you realized how a 6yr old could be on suicide watch.
Parents are everything in the formative years.
Solid advice in this video 💪

As a believer in reincarceration I have to add people who committed suicide in a past life are prone to think in that groove again. This applies to substance abusers.
As the late great Swami Vivekananda said:Our character is the sum total of thoughts from precious incarnations. An evil person has had evil thoughts for several lifetimes.Likewise a saintly person.
Our saving grace is freewill.Evil thoughts can be replaced with uplifting higher thoughts changing ones character.

I agree with you on every level. My father was a contractor for Texaco growing up and did everything from building gas stations to painting buildings to putting together scaffolding to pressure washing buildings and driveways and worked on Christmas day quite often. I started working with him (or at least going to job sites) around 8-10 years old. Then I started working full time with him over the summers in high school. He always said LEARN HOW TO WORK, and you'll never be homeless. Truer words have never been said.

    @TCAV,
I am 42 and, like you, had parental issues. Both my parents fought and divorced when I was in 3rd grade. Also, like you, I am put in very bad places by the sounds of doors, pots etc. being slammed in anger.
Unlike you, I wanted to fly f14's, not be a SEAL but I didn't go to college, and so, it wasn't in the cards for me. I did become a pilot upon leaving the military though. Not F14's but close enough for me.
Quick side note. First cold shower I took aboard ship made me understand immediately, I would never be a SEAL

All the skills you talk about are transferable from FFL to real life. It can help people. The first FFL man I met was Frantz. He was in the Legion from WW2 till after that. He began coming to our church in a country i will not name. Frantz became a believer. The skills from the FFL was still in him at 70 years old. This man passed out 992000 Gospel tracts on doors for 3 years. He climbed steps in apartments with 10 floors. Frantz continued passing them out even while he was having a heart attack. What he did would not have been possible without his FFL training. This is the reason I have been watching all the videos.

My parents were from Soviet Union! I've never met anyone else whose parents beat them as much, we would never have imagined calling the cops or complaining to someone. Everything was, "you have it so easy in America, be happy." my parents have hated each other since the second day of marriage, they are educated and made good money, but to this day they don't spend anything,me and my brothers wore each others clothing and learned early that if you ask for anything you will be screamed at why you don't need it and how you don't deserve it, shit was embarrassing. My parents still have no friends, my father hasn't bought himself anything personal beyond beer for fifty years, not clothes, no hobbies nothing. It definitely toughened us up something fierce, we all got taught Russian, learned how to sew, cook fix everything, I couldn't believe all my friends couldn't cook or fix a lawnmower or do fiberglass at the age of 11. Maryland expunges all juvenile records and I joined at 17.

Definitely words from the wise. I grew up without a father an't sometimes I was glad he wasn't around because of some of the stunts I pulled when I was younger. They say with time comes wisdom (I'm 69) and it's true. Did a stint in the Navy and started to turn my life around. You speak the truth and I wish more young people could hear you because we need it. By the way, cool shirt.

The things you said was “exactly” how I was raised
(in Bklyn, N.Y.) & how we raised our kids, and fortunately they all served (after 9/11) & they’re doing really well now.
But, they have different style of how they raise their kids in this day & age. Now in this computer age.
Like you said, kids don’t go out & play anymore. They’re constantly on their computers.
Instead of being outside, they’re homebodys.
Instead of picking up the phone, they text.
But they’re good students & good loving kids.
All I can do is forward this (message) to my kids, so they can hear your message. Maybe then they’ll remember “how they were raised & grew up.

I appreciate your transparency. Watch the f-bombs as it can be a stumbling block to those you're trying to reach or parents/grandparents who want to share your message. Then again, I'm a guy who was playing in the canyons of Reno in the 70s and, yes, I freely admit I sound like my grandma. That's ok, she laid it on the line as a nurse in a Dutch Jewish hospital in WW2. 100% respect to your parents as they gave you a foundation. Again, appreciate the heart of your message to not sink in a disappointment but to take the hit and rise above it. Keep pressing forward.

Your child hood resonates with me. I grew up in Rancho Penasquitos and went to Mt Carmel High School. Was a varsity wrestler and Football player. Got kicked out of school my senior year in 1991 and got my high school diploma at Abraxas high and joined the
Navy. I never thought about doing anything else but joining the Navy when I was young. Didn’t have the grades to go to college. Me and most of my friends joined the military right after high school. Most of my friends actually went in the Marines but I hated running!

Greetings from Taipei, Taiwan, where I’m about to go out the door for early morning Qigong exercise (Chinese exercise for health), part of my fitness and health regimen. Your story about remaking yourself several times is remarkable and I especially relate to the part where you took your career OCONUS (Army-Speak for Outside the Continental United States, for the non-US military reader). Keep it up, Legionnaire!

Im 28 years old and i have both my parents still as well as both sets of grandparents. I feel so blessed every day i get to spend time with them. Although it does cause me some anxiety on a daily level knowing that when things start going south with them its all going to happen in short succession. God bless man your helping me and everyone else here more than you know!

Well done Taylor, I needed to hear you. I’m 73, used to read a comic call “Luck of the legion”. I’m very undisciplined but you are a kick in the butt for me. Hope I can build some consistency. Marseille and Aiguës Morte are my favourite places. All the best.

Oh my goodness I am one of the sideway randoms I'm 41 years old wish like hell I would have had the options and push in my life to be dedicated to self . so I literally push these uplifting videos to my nearly 9yr old who came from two extremely cocky parents . It's never a bad thing but can lead to all the wrong things when there is no desire aspirations or goals for their lives ...

I was one of those kids that the parents didn't teach much about how to deal with your shit. So a lot of shit later in life was really hard to deal with, always mistakes after mistakes and each mistakes put your mind in a dark place, i guess for some, thats how you grow up. Thanks for sharing your story.

Just want to chime in and echo what others are saying. You are doing a great thing with your messages. The life lessons and guidance you are spreading transcends social, cultural and age differences. At 52 I get something out of each video that I can relate to and strive to apply to my life. You are a gifted speaker. As the comments section shows, you are reaching alot of people and motivating them to think about their life and make a positive change. Keep up the great work,

A great message today. The yelling part hit home; I've tooted my own horn in comments before (33YR USN W5)... I do that because it does add context I believe. I have never become numb to yelling; not as a kid or adult. Even in the Navy after all those years it would make me stop for a second; no matter who was yelling. I never had a reputation as somebody that yelled a lot or as hot head until it was really needed. Amazing how things shape you. Thanks for sharing! IYAOYAS!!

I dig how your able to laugh at yourself while acknowledging missteps you have taken in your past. There is strength in your humility and I know it is not easy to do. I think it is cool you went to Poway HS. I went to Canyon in Anaheim Hills and your school was our biggest wrestling rival (87-90 for me). The Poway program, like ours, was Nationally ranked back then and matches were no joke. Big Semper Fi to your old man. Keep up the good work dude. Stay safe out there..
