Ha ha, a million Foreign Legion movies only show the desert. Snow’s not part of the equation in the Hollywood version of the French Foreign Legion! It's an excellent and interesting video.

Your experience speaks to me as I spent a year in 1978-1979 at the 7th BCA Bataillon de chasseurs alpins in Bourg st Maurice. Climbing 1200 m elevations on skis building igloo etc .. at the time the gear was less up to date. Leather ski shoes, rectangular sleeping bags…. But as long a you built the igloos right you were guaranteed 32F inside regardless the outside conditions

Story 49 and coffee. Another great start to the week. I look forward to these stories every Monday. After Monday's story the rest is a bonus.
Legion stories are fascinating to me.. For any young man thinking about making that trek to France. You have done more to promote the Legion with straight up no joke Insight on what to expect.
As always. Respect to what you have done, and continue to do.
    Stay safe.

My buddy was a great skier from NH. He looked down his first European black diamond and said No FCKN WAY dude. People have no idea how peaked the European mountain tops are. I was at the highest point in Germany and I could have sat on top of the mountain with a leg facing down both sides and that rock would have been up my ass steep.!

I was there in the summer of '88 with 2bn 4th Marines. We were the 24th MEU. It was awesome to train there. We had a Marine break both of his legs below the knees while we were conducting cliff face rappel. He is good to go(he's a doctor now). That same evolution my squad was in a extremely hard landing on the Italian side when the CH46 we were in went down. The days of my youth! I still hate helos.

Some of the hardest training I did in Recon was the Cold Weather training at Camp Williams, Utah. Pulling a sled, 4 man team, all the radios and batteries, food freezing if you didn’t keep it on your body, digging out an igloo to sleep. Tough stuff there Shipmate.

I'm from Pennsylvania and served in the Marines for 5 years on active duty and would've loved the Legion. I hated Camp Lejeune. It was a swamp and smelled like one and every pond or pool over water had freak'n aligators and snapping turtles in it- dinosaurs man! The Legion is rustic and austere. The Marines have rundowned austerity. You spoke in one vid wearing camo. Your room looked awesome. I didn't even have a room. My barracks had spray on asbestos on the ceiling and the deck was concrete - no tiling and it was cockroach infested too. Those freak'n bugs woukd eat holes in our uniforms. It was nuts. All our equipment was either wore out, or totally busted. One day we spray painted green paint over the US ARMY tags on the truck bumpers and stenciled USMC on top of it. Crazy
