    Excellent series on the A7RIII. I've watched the other videos and yours are head and shoulders above.
    PS: I kept forgetting what I put in memory locations 1,2, and 3 -- so I set them at 1=Portrait, 2=Landscape, 3=Action. 1-2-3="P-L-A" as in Sony PLAystation !! Hah. Now I don't forget.

    Dear Mark
    I have a A7R iii and enjoy photographing people. I just recently tuned up my presets to follow you advice here. I use 85 f1.4 and 24-105 for flexibility. I just had the opportunity to be with my 98 yr old Mom and all the grandchildren at the beach .. lots of birthdays..
    I did use a flash while outside just so I had good light.
    Perfect shots
    Mark all the photos were tack tack sharp!! Eye focus perfect
    Thank you Mark wonderful memories

      Alberto Costell ,Sorry for the late response. I’ve been pretty much happy with the switch .The Eye AF doesn’t seem to work as consistently as I hoped even with a Sony GM 85.It seems to work perfect for the You Tubers when they present it.It is a learning curve with the menus and mirrorless.I have no regrets.

    Hi Mark, your videos have been a real help for me, I wanted to share my resent experience with the setting modifications, I had a shoot with a team of paintball players and when the time came to shoot with masks on AF EFS, focus was all over the place it just did not allow for eye recognition, I learned in your movie about fallback settings, this saved my day! I set up in my A7M3 with the C3 to override AF-C with AF-S and Expand Flexible Spot, on the fly focus, didn’t waste a second. Thank you again and please keep sharing the knowledge.

    Thanks very much for this series, which expanded my knowledge of the camera and will reduce my editing time.
    One note on anti-flicker shooting is that it’s only available with the mechanical shutter. This has bitten me a few times when shooting in silent mode where I’ve gotten banding from fluorescent lighting. Better to switch to the relatively quiet mechanical shutter in those situations to take advantage of the anti-flicker feature.

      @@Anna-gv7vo I had to rewatch the video to remember what the recommended settings were. 😀 Generally, these are the setting I use on my current cameras: A9, 7RIV, and 7Siii for portraits. I don't actually use my 7Siii much for portraits. I use it for videos and often as a still camera to take food pictures in restaurants where the light is often very low. I think the 7Siii is under appreciated as a still camera for NON-COMMERCIAL work because it has "only" 12MP. It wasn't all that long ago that 10MP was considered high resolution! For social media and relatively small prints (up to 11X17) 12 MP is more than enough and the files take up so much less space and process so much more quickly with very high quality. The A9 is my primary portraiture camera, while the A7Riv is most often used for landscapes and fine art work.

    • @DavePruett
      @DavePruett 3 года назад

      @@Anna-gv7vo My memory just isn't what it used to be! 😀 When I am in a studio I always shoot in M, too, but I don't know what the shooting mode would cause you to miss focus. One of the greatest things about Sony mirrorless cameras (others are catching up, or trying to) is how well eye autofocus works. I almost never get an out of focus portrait anymore, and when I do I usually did something wrong. I have used Wide, Zone, and various Spot modes in different circumstances all with great success. I hope you can figure it out and start getting really sharp portraits.

      My approach would be to use a Sony HVL--F45RM when the light is poor and bounce the flash off a white ceiling or white wall or a reflector held in my hand. I would raise the ISO to 400 so the flash recycles quickly. I love shallow depth of field so I would use the FE 35 F1.4 or FE 85 F1.8. Using the RM Flash would allow me to take the flash off the camera and place it on a light stand if the location permitted this and I would control the Flash using Sony's commander.
