  • Good day slot car fans! Well todays the day the training wheels came off. Running slots for over a year I’ve been fairly comfortable running all car brands with the factory magnets in place. Needless to say I’m pretty fast around the track with any car, but the realism just didn’t feel like it was there.
The feeling of driving a car on that knifes edge and really relying on throttle and brake control from hand-controller and dialing in the Carrera CU settings to maximize that feel really amplified my racing session. Not all cars will get the magless treatment, but definitely the ones that I’ll feature on this channel.
Enjoy the video and I’ll catch you on the next episode. Race on!

Super cool layout! Love the elevation changes. I haven’t tried no magnets on mine.

It took me a year to attempt it honestly. One day I found that I was over driving the cars because the magnets help keep the car on track so much. It got to the point I was worried of damaging them because the speeds were so high. Magnet laps were 6.5 and now without them they are in the mid 8’s. It’s still fun, if not more fun because you can feel the car on that edge - and you’re forced to tune them a bit so they don’t handle like a dump truck

Man I love the track, what’s the layout size?

The table is 5’x18’ with 63” of track. The only way I could have fit more on was to ditch my mitre saw in the middle - which I should have done 🤦🏻🤦🏻

Nice video, running no magnets is a lot of fun, it causes you to actually drive the car. I currently have no magnets in my analog cars and Ive started to remove magnets from some of my digital cars. like you said you gotta leave some with magnets when you guests over

Excellent! Performance can be increased by adding small bits of weight or different thicknesses of sheet lead inside the chassis. The lead is soft, pliable & easy to cut. Most online slot car stores sell it. It takes some trial and error, place & replace, but when you get it right, it's Dyn-O-Mite!

That is great advice - our local hobby shops carry very little slot car related goodies, so most of my kit is bought online. I will definitely be adding ballast weight to my inbox on the next order. Is there anything else out there that works well for adding weight in a pinch?

Thanks Clearwater. I’m currently out of town for work but I’m looking forward to burying myself in slot car work soon. I have a couple project videos in the works, so stay tuned

Really like layout not many blind spots . I presently have 2 slot it cars and 1 sideways car no magnet . I need more practice but magnet will stay in carrera and scalectric cars for visitors...if i ever have any 😢😂😂😂

The one things I've recognized is without magnets in the cars is tires... they are critical to be trued and mounted correctly. So far the slot.it and sideways cars are pretty easy to balance, but I'm still working on my techniques... more to come on that
