  • Hello everyone and welcome back!
    It’s been a busy few weeks. With the incoming arrival of my son I had been working frantically at night to get Sunshine Speedway to a level where I felt it was complete, or at least 99% complete…
    I have seen many Facebook posts in the various groups of folks looking for track design input, as well as tips on how to do scenery on a budget (time and money in my case). I put this video together in hopes to share some of my experiences and to hopefully give you some ideas to work from and to better what I’ve done.
    As you may see my track is fairly detailed enough - but not to the level of being a showpiece; a work of masterful art it is not. I don’t have the patience or the time to pull off the scenery feats that other folks out there are capable of… maybe one day when my kids are all grown up! LOL
    If you have questions about anything I’ve done do not hesitate to contact me though the comments section.
    I hope you enjoy this one, see you next time!
    0:00 - Intro
    1:56 - Getting started - buying a kit
    2:22 - Track tables, a good place to start
    2:46 - Track expansion & design; Getting the most out of your track vs. Having the most track
    4:25 - Modify your track! integrating elevation changes and scenery planning
    6:13 - Opening a can of whoopaaaa…. Spray foam! Taking the scenery plunge
    8:39 - Running your layout while building scenery, IT’S OKAY TO MAKE CHANGES AS YOU GO
    9:48 - When hard work pays off. Take the time to marvel at your work!
    10:38 - Fine tuning scenery: ADD SOME LIGHTING!
    14:03 - Small scale carpentry: fence building anyone?
    15:04 - An overview as of today, and plans for the future
    19:57 - Other noteworthy details I should touch on
    20:45 - How a 3D printer can change how you work and play
    22:38 - Probably the best wireless charger on the market…
    23:27 - A Budget friendly display for you collection

      I remember having a track as a kid that my dad and I worked on in our crawl space. I am certain the work we’ve done on this track bring back memories for him as well. It’s must be rewarding to have grandkids who are amazed by what collection you have stowed away

    Thanks for this - as a modeller coming into slot car racing, this was really helpful. My initial layout was very similar to yours and I had many of the same issues / tweaks to make :)

      Glad I could give you some insight. There’s a million ways to make it all happen, if there were a ‘next time’ for me there would be a few steps I’d do differently for sure and some others I’d do the same. Live and learn am I right?

    I have an ongoing track of my own I have been working on for a couple years. Your track is nothing short of remarkable. I know how much work went into that and hats off to you. Congratulations On Sunshine Speedway...I am sure you will get many many years of enjoyment from it.

      That is a very big compliment, thank you. It was a great deal of work for sure. The best times are yet to come for sure. My biggest piece of advice for anyone out there building a track of their own is never go too long without running some laps - even if the track is in total disarray. Too much time away from having fun will really eat away at your motivation to keep pressing on with scenery etc.

    Awesome video thank you. My layout is very similar to your one before this final. I have a 3/30 turn at one end and 2/30 high bank at the other. My available space is long and narrow. Challenging. I love your details and scenery I’m just starting that on mine. Cheers!

    • @Sunshine_Speedway
      @Sunshine_Speedway  6 месяцев назад +1

      It is challenging isn’t it, but once you find something that works is pretty rewarding to have a long fast straight or two with some technical sections in between, good luck and share your knowledge if you can find the time!

      Glad it was helpful. My biggest suggestion would be to have fun with it along the way. Building 100% and racing 0% sometimes takes the wind out of the sails. Good luck!

      Bit by bit each little detail really sums it all up for sure. Be sure to take the to enjoy some racing along the way. I caught myself a few times losing steam because the track had been disassembled for so long I didn’t realize I needed to turn some laps to get motivated again

    Hello At 16:29 between your fingers i see a track piece that didint quite match up ,I can see you made a connecting piece for the electrics , can you explain how you did the join . Your track is awsome and definatly one of the nicest I have seen on youtube ! I gave you a subscription based on this post alone being like a masterclass on how to build an awsome slot car track ....Greetings from Northern Europe ....Harry

    • @Sunshine_Speedway
      @Sunshine_Speedway  6 месяцев назад +2

      Yes when the track was flat everything lined up quite nicely. Once I started adding elevation the track started to pull itself apart a bit - more so with the imperfections of my spray foam. I found that adding strips of 1/4’” copper tape to those sections the poor track connection is reduced. I appreciate the compliment about the track, it’s been a labour of love for almost 2 years

    Very nice! Do you happen to know if there is a program that will accept a list of the carrera track pieces and also the area size for a track build and then calculate all possible layouts for that area?

    • @Sunshine_Speedway
      @Sunshine_Speedway  6 месяцев назад +2

      Not that I know of, I know the autobahn planner program can accept a parts list but it cannot create a layout from that list. You’ve got the help of all the folks on Facebook though

    Are the lanes nearly equal length?

    • @Sunshine_Speedway
      @Sunshine_Speedway  6 месяцев назад +2

      No the outside lane on the main straight is about 70cm longer I believe. It’s ultimately the faster lane due to having 4 larger radius turns compared to the 2 larger radius on the inside lane

    • @Sunshine_Speedway

      They are all from Race Track Scenics out of the US. Check them out as they have a growing library of scale buildings and similar items for your layout. 100% worth the price as the build quality is excellent

      @Sunshine_Speedway  2 месяца назад

      Hey Mark, if you google search ‘muretto protezione stl’ and look for a username FVICARI or Francesco Vicari you will find the barrier fence and the barrier wall that it is intended to plug into. I was cutting the stems that go into the blocks on and hot glueing them to my track lighting
