Well, Spain is distributed in 17 region, 2 cities at north Africa and subdive in 50 province. Which challenge do you want choose? The challenge of taste one recipe for region or the challenge of taste one recipe for each of the 50 provinces?
the thing with spain, is that every region has its own culture, and food. So its difficult to have accurate knowledge of it. Basque country, Andalucia, Catalunya, Canary Islands, Galicia, Castilla la Mancha, etc they are all so different. Different food, languages or dialects, culture, architecture....

San Sebastian is for sure the best gastronomy region I have been to. I have visited so many countries all around the world and Basque Country food was something else. The product is the higest quality, the huge variety of items combinations and recipies and the intense in the flavour.
Pintxos and tapas, how easy is for a Spanish person to understand it and yet how difficult to word them to the visitors. The way I explained it in the past was like this: -Pintxos: one or two bites food portion, meant to be for 1 person and you have to pay for them. -Tapas: is not a specific food but a way to eat it. You can order almost anything from a menu, as long as it's portioned and set on the middle of the table to share, it'll be a tapa. Let's differentiate the "free tapa" that many Spanish bars and restaurants offer alongside your drink order (wich you can't generally choose, they'll bring whatever they have that day on the house) from "ir de tapas", which is the thing we actually do: pick a few dishes from a menu and share them all, in a very informal context and can be done standing at the bar or sitting on a table. Some places are specialised in this type of eating, so the food they offer is easy to split by the number of guests at the table. Some common tapas are croquetas, tortilla, calamari, charcuterie boards, etc, because is simple to grab from each plate without messing the table. It's also very common for a group of people to order a few tapas to share as starters and then order the main course individually (in a sitting restaurant). My last lunch at a restaurant: table of 5. The restaurant served us some olives and Galician empanada (free tapa that we call "algo de picar=something to snack on) with the drinks, we ordered some croquetas (we asked how many are they in a portion, and decided how many we needed for everyone to have at least 2 pieces, for example), padron peppers, octopus and a house salad to share as a starter, and then we ordered whatever each of us wanted as a main course. Hope it helps as an example. Another meaning of the word Tapa applies to the size of the portion, as opposed to Ración when written on a menu or chalkboard. Ración is a full size plate of food, a tapa will be a smaller portion of said food. Some places will call the small portion Tapa, some will say "1/2 ración". A ración of croquetas could be 7 pieces, and a tapa 4. A pintxo would be 1 croqueta, usually bigger in size. Sometimes we go for a beer before lunch and order couple of tapas to snack on while drinking and then go home to eat. Another day we go out for dinner and hit couple of taperias for a fun and light supper, or just stay in one place the whole evening for a proper table dinner experience. Tapas is not this one thing we all do the same way in Spain. Some regions are amazing for tapas, others are huge on stews and slow cooking. It's very hard to encapsulate the Spanish gastronomy because it's very local and region based. Whoever visits Spain from North to South, East to West, and the Islands, will agree that we have many cultures and landscapes in a small sized country.
Growing up in PI, my mom served us tortilla almost everyday for breakfast, and this is the only tortilla I know growing up. When we moved to U.S., I was surprised to be serve basically flat bread.
Thanks Mark for sharing the delights of Basque gastronomy, this time from the capital San Sebastían (Donostia). Tortillas, tapas, pinchos and seafood...monumental.👍🤟❤

You made me smile...People are not aware of most of the world out there...There are so many hidden treasures...Spain I feel has been always underrated from the Nordic European countries when in fact the quality of life in the mediterranean countries is way more advanced and civilized...People are more relaxed, live longer and take one day at a time...They do not live to work, but work the least possible to live...They, like the Japanese, know how to appreciate life and live it to the fullest...Working hard is a myth invented by those that expect humanity to stay enslaved with their nonsense rules...This way people cannot remember the truth of who they are...They are too busy and occupied with surviving...

Thanks for visiting San Sebastian, you are welcome anytime!
Mark you are just blowing my mind with these Spain videos !!! Food Network needs to give you a travel for food series for sure!!! Bobby Flay and his daughter has a travel for food series they have nothing on what you would do for @Food Network!!!
Thank you for you amazing support Deana!
Great Spain 🇪🇸 series bro! but you responsible for my craving food attack every video ! You just a little demon 🤣
San Sebastian is gorgeous with awesome food. Once you experience the taste of fresh food from farm or sea to table you will always appreciate the flavor. Basque cheesecake is THE best..imo Another great one Mark..thank you👍👍
San Sebastian is a gorgeous place. However, it's always raining, foggy and d water is cold.
Thank you very much Karmini!

I'm from Spain. Actually I'm living now in Bristol, UK. Your videos in Spain gave me big nostalgia about my country. I'm glad you enjoyed. Thanks.
Fantastic! Book my flight! Thanks, Mark, Jeffrey, Kevin, and Daniella!😋
Precioso San Sebastian,y su gastronomia es impresionante.
Que hambre me entra cuando veo tus videos.
Para mi la numero uno en el mundo. Nada se puede comparar con el norte de Espana. Espezialmente el Pais Vasco.
Thank you for helping me with my travel vlogs!!
When Mark was born, he didn't cry, he said, '' ho woww" or hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm wow
Legend has it that one day Mark will eat a meal so good, he will lean all the way out of the frame.
I love how this dude is always smiling 😂 it tricks me into being happy for some reason
The first bite always looks like it touches the edges and creases of his soul 😂😂
No price. No feedback. Another junk video.
@Eli Rivera you can tell when it’s not good. No head tilt, oh wow or eyes rolling lol
Yes he lives to taste food, I am amazed how thin he is he must be exercising all the time.
@Eli Rivera Explain to your wife that vomit tastes amazing to Mark.
Came here our honeymoon a few months ago. IMHO the best food city in the world. Yes the Michelin star restaurants are a plenty and top notch, but it’s these pintxos bars that really leave an impression. Trust me when I say, Mark is underselling how good this place is. Eskerrik kasko!
You are right, when it comes to food, San Sebastian is number 1 in the whole world.
The giant tortilla is poetry in motion.
The black fin tuna behind Mark.
I love it when they let mark see them cook it really shows how nice they are and how good the food is
Once I see his eyes roll to the back of his head no one can’t tell me that food doesn’t slap 😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Lol It's the truth
Lol
Man everything he eats he makes it look so fucken bomb 💣
@LibVis he’s been very honest before when he doesn’t like something so I’m sure every time his eyes roll it’s good
Mark, definitely San Sebastian one of tops food destination and beautiful city in Spain. Basque Country is a megatop in terms of food and chefs worldwide.
Thanks and enjoy.
I really need a friend that loves seafood as much as I do, so we can both go to San Sebastian to eat all these wonderful foods!
Go to Cadiz
the beef is also the best, and also the lamb region and baby pig, 30 milles, so you have tons of dishes with meat and beef, is sad MArk did a bad job on this episode should be the best, and was mediocre what he showed, San Sebastian is food world wide meca, and they show pretty basic stuff, not heir real stuff
You will enjoy San Sebastian, the best place in the world for quality food
You are the best food vlogger Mark , Being a chef i can clearly see how much you love food , how badly you wants to know about the depth of the cusines . In food vlogging you the GOAT .
Wow!!! Another amazing what I like to call “break from the rigors of life!” video!!! Your vid’s provide such a great escape and it is appreciated!!! Cheers!!!🍻 also, love seeing Jeffery in your videos!! He’s a great and interesting character who adds exactly that!! “character” to your videos……thank you so much. Be well all!!! ✌️👍✌️👍
Thank you so much!
Definitely basque gastronomy is one of the most interesting gastronomic cultures of the planet....😋
The Basque one is one of the many throughout Spain...As a Spaniard I can say that...
@@amparoalvarez9001 but Basque cuisine is the best, and San Sebastian has more Michelin stars per inhabitant than any other city in the whole world.
@@ir7910 yes as an Irish person living in Valencia. The basque food is by far the best!!

Mark your love for food across the world is such a blessing. Your palette is broad i would like to try it but would be scared to. I love how you widen your eyes and say wow then you point your finger to sign the deal on how great it taste. Thank you for taking us on the tour with you. Love what your doing. Continue to travel for food. God Bless
What a beautiful city. The food looked amazing as well.
San Sebastian is the undisputed food capital of the world. You did this town justice, Mark!
hahahaha, the tortilla was not cooked in center. The undisputed food depends on the restaurant and not on the city.
@@joaorobalo9353 for me was a little bit overcooked. I'm a local and I can tell you there are better places to eat e good tortilla, wich should be runny, otherwise it's not a tortilla it's a shoe sole
For sure, comparing is futile...Spain has such an array of foods...Impossible to compare!!! It does a disservice...
@@joaorobalo9353 San Sebastian has more Michelin stars per inhabitant than any other city in the world. San Sebastian is world number one.
The way I explained it in the past was like this:
-Pintxos: one or two bites food portion, meant to be for 1 person and you have to pay for them.
Some places are specialised
in this type of eating, so the food they offer is easy to split by the number of guests at the table.

I'd say tapas are common and good in the whole of spain. It is bar and social culture, no matter where you go.
This is one of the best episode!! Your friends were such a joyful addition!
Growing up in PI, my mom served us tortilla almost everyday for breakfast, and this is the only tortilla I know growing up. When we moved to U.S., I was surprised to be serve basically flat bread.
Mark thinks every dish and every restaurant is nice. He can eat grass outside and have something to compliment about it
Thanks Mark for sharing the delights of Basque gastronomy, this time from the capital San Sebastían (Donostia). Tortillas, tapas, pinchos and seafood...monumental.👍🤟❤
The capital is not Donostia, is Vitoria, but is the most beautiful city in the basque country and for me the most beautiful in spain

That's right Gabriella! Just looking at how fresh and how they assemble it on the plate makes you want to keep trying every pinchoix bar. Glad you traveled to Spain Mark as you sampled it was just wonderful food.
Welcome to Spain, some other time you must come to Galicia to eat marisco, fish, meat... everything in the most beautiful place on earth!

Mark was totally food drunk after the market 😂 he said, “that was an amazing market to the visit” haha much love ❤️
Oh my goodness you make everything look so good! Will have to propose San Sebastian as our 2023 Family trip!
Our visit to Donastia was magical. Visiting Madrid prior was a great primer. Donastia was life changing.

Im so damned jealous! Hope there are a couple of more episodes from España!!!
Ever since Anthony Bourdain did an episode in San Sebastian I've wanted to go, but still haven't been there. I hope your tube will finally get me over there the next time I'm in Europe.
CNN disrespected the legacy of Anthony Bourdain since he died in June 2018.
Damn my bucket list is just getting longer and longer .... another phenomenal food destination
Outstanding food tour Mark. Also, I enjoyed the beautiful building architecture and water scenery. Great video! 👏☺️
Mr Mark, so happy to see u with so many platters of food that truly amazing!
I have eaten Spanish Omelette. But, this is absolutely different!
I'm so happy you managed to come to San Sebastian to try their mouth-watering food! I am lucky to have a niece that lives here so that gives me an excuse to come visit and go to all these places you have mentioned here. Perhaps next year. Best idea ever you touring Spain. So far the best of all. Incredible!
In 2019 Spain had 83.7 million tourists. After these videos it will be impossible to book a bed in Spain.
San Sebastián has opened 45 new hotels in the last 5 years… you will deffinitely find a room.
@@ir7910 ok, but any prawns left?
You will find a room. It's us the people from San Sebastian that don't find a place to stay.

I love watching Mark eat. He loves food so much that when he eats whatever is in front of him he expresses the food to such a level that you enjoy it too. I live in Maine and the sea food here is the best. But the good meat markets have the best meats. You go get the fresh vegetables from the farms and get really out in nature.
God bless you Mark and your family. Let's Eat!! 😋
Gabriella Ranelli was in Anthony Bourdain Parts Unknown San Sebastian episode.
what an experience Mark!
Love how the Spanish people just mind their business when you are filming
I am from Spain and while the people there are very friendly, they are also very respectful of your experience...They fully enjoy their friends and family...So they concentrate a lot on them...They only get very defensive when someone interferes in their business...The usually are always ready to help when asked...
I’m a plant focused eater but still find entertainment watching Mark devour all of his desired foods and travel to all of these great destinations!
I learned that I need give my body what it wants...My body speaks to me when I see food... I do not deprive it of anything for I trust my body's intelligence...
