As someone who lived in Spain for eight years, driving/riding 85.000 kms a year around every aldea, pueblo and ciudad in the country; living in hotels and restaurants, I can say one thing: James and Yoly are the real deal. James' understanding and love of regional Iberian cuisine is infectious, and very impressive for an 'outsider'. This is the best Spanish content you'll find on RUclips.
I saw James making this video ! I actually said hello to him in La vina but I wasn’t the guy shaking his hand in the video though. Still a cool experience !!
I just have to say that I just returned from Spain (Madrid, Segovia, Ávila, Sigüenza, Granada, Sevilla) and I binged your videos before leaving. I visited Casa Toni and a couple other places you recommended. I am now in love with Spain. Thank you so much for what you are doing. In two years some co-workers and I are going to do the Camino de Santiago and I could not be more excited to return to this beautiful country that you, in a lot of ways, introduced me to. Keep up the great work!
Thank you for doing such a comprehensive video for tourists on San Sebastian. It remains my most favorite place to eat, so I completely understand why locals would be annoyed at rude tourists. I especially loved that I learned a few Basque words. I notice that when I visit Japan or even go to Japanese restaurants here in the states that they appreciate when you say "itadakimasu" or "gochichosama desu." Knowing their language is another form of respect. It's important to know that Spanish isn't the only language spoken in Spain.
That is 👍 right! Spain is such a diverse country and we want to make sure to show it to you guys when you visit :) thank you for watching! @eatingoutinss
Went on a tour with Osani in June 2022. What a gracious, proud, knowledgeable and beautiful woman! Took us to many of the same places. Some of the best food I have had in my life.such a fun evening in SS.
James, you mentioned the uncertainty surrounding doing a video about respectful tourism. Dude, you killed it. It suits your already respectful and empathetic approach to tourism. Your knowledge of Spain just shines and I love the conversations with local people working in hospitality. More of this! We have a trip booked to SS for July 2023 and all of these tips are gonna be so helpful in enhancing our experience and making sure we aren't obnoxious travelers.
Recently discovered your channel and have been binge watching all your vids for days. Spain is an amazing place and your love, passion, and enthusiasm for that country shows in every vid. Hoping to make there this year!
Doing the exact same thing after the Mark Wiens video with James. Love the energy and optimism in every video! Trying to determine the perfect month to eat and travel my way through Spain without the crowds.
Welcome aboard, Neil. James and Yoli are extremely knowledgeable and very gracious (l’ve had the pleasure of meeting them). They do Spain and Madrid a great service in bringing it to the world.
I vacationed each summer as an American child in San Sebastian with my Basque cousins. We had a hard time adjusting to California again afterward, just not the same quality if foods and activities! A truly great video James!
Wow. Osane. She was our guide back in 2018 when we first when to San Sebastián. Now we get there at least every year. Of course we hit all the spots she recommended. All the food was incredible and she taught us a lot about the culture and some history. It was great to learn which pintxos are a specialty for the restaurant and bar so we only got the best tastes! We have fond memories of Osane entertaining our son so we could relax a little and enjoy our food and drink. eskerrik asko Osane!
I was lucky enough to never feel like we were eating "tourist" food, when we were in Spain. We tried to eat off the beaten track and ate what was seasonal. The tomatoes! OMG, the tomatoes... I actually cried. Setinel de la bodegas, the best tasting tomatoes. I had never had a white tomato in my life... I adore Spain.
Finally! mostly seafood and beef, what an adventure. I only visit locations during low season, love rainy/cloudy/cold climate so not only do I get what I am searching for, I also get less crowds, better prices on travel expenses and just like it was said in the video "A more personalized experience" specially if you go in the first place with an open mind and heart. That being said, I am waiting until all this pent-up covid travel surplus energy dissipates before I resume my travels. Excellent video and what an amazing local host who just opened her heart without hesitation. Thank you James!
This was a spectacular tour! My mouth was watering. I was in San Sebastián briefly, long before it was so very popular among the multitudes, and loved it. I was also a guest of friends in Victoria during festival and had the best food in their home and out. The wine, the pintxos, the vascos, everything is wonderful and delicious. 😋😋😋
I feel osane, my nan is half spanish, she would always tell me if you are going to cook cook it love because you are sharing this food to people you love.
We love all the tips about respecting locals while traveling to place like San Sebastian dealing with over tourism. These will really help people who still want to visit and experience all the delicious food without contributing more to the problem. All the pintxos had us wanting to move back to Spain. The food in Germany hasn't been nearly as good 😭 Fantastic video as always, James! Can't wait for the next!
Lived there from 05 - 2017 . Loved every minute! Nice to see Jose Louis from Bar sport in your video. I met my xwife in that bar . I ended up living with a Basque family for years . God I miss it!

Thanks for making honor to our city by trying to promote turism in a healthiter way. Wow, James, another great video. I already had San Sebastian on my list of places to visit, but this cemented it for me. I cannot wait to taste every corner of Spain.

I think I just squealed when I realized I caught your video on the day it was released. The owner of the company I work for is going to Spain for the first time in the fall (to Ribera del Duero), and she asked me to put together tips and ideas for making a side trip to San Sebastian. Your video series on SS is about to become required viewing for her. Thank you for all your "fact finding missions."
Loved the visit to the place where the woman didn't want to be seen. The words about preserving places like this is important is so true. It is preservation of the culinary culture. The mass touristy places are NOT culinary culture. It's the handmade, artisanal, often hidden places that are the places and traditions worth keeping alive. If not, then all destinations will start to look alike. Well done for including this!
What an amazing video, loved it! I live the other side of the border in France and regularly go to San Sebastian - I love the place. Thanks to this video I'll be going back there more enlightened :)

i have traveled and covered all the major areas in Spain and several times of some of them. I love everywhere I have been. Finally I visited San Sebastian and Bilbao at the end of last year. I do not know why I felt loving that city a pinch more, LOL Even people mentioned that it is wet in Winter in the Atlantic coastal city.It does not bother me at all. Pintxos there are so incredible for all the places I had been.
I thought this would be dreadful, but I ended up finding it incredibly interesting. Thanks for coming up with new and interesting ideas for content James.
¡Saludos, James!
