**THIS VIDEO WAS SHOT A MONTH AGO BEFORE LOCKDOWN** A couple of weeks before we went into lockdown, Yoly and I took a trip up to San Sebastian. And we shot a couple of videos. This is the first. Let's all stay at home, keep social distancing and ensure we can get through this! 💪🏾
I feel kind of nostalgic being in lockdown in San Sebastián and watching your video, also imagining how happy i will be when this is over and i'll be able to enjoy San Sebastián's pintxos and bars. I was one of the students at BCC where you gave a class, it was lovely to meet you and to get to know the heart of your projects, regards and best of luck!
Agur, muxu.
Ah, but think of how much sweeter everything will taste and feel once we all get out of quarantine. Hang in there!!! Saludos desde los Estados Unidos!!!
I'm watching this while I am eating my own boring meal for dinner. I am going to refer to this video as "James' Sadistic Food Video" since I've watched it on the day that I didn't make a meal to compare to this food extravaganza !!! I want to try the "Platillo" since I love potatoes and garlic together. I'm ready to be in Spain already. Get this virus under control so I can get my visa and travel there !!!! Thanks for sharing all these places and dishes and it is wonderful to watch how James and Yoli are total foodies, which is a vicarious experience for me as a foodie too.
As always, fantastic video James and Yoly!! This is giving me life during our own lockdown here in Ohio, USA. My husband and I had planned a big trip to Portugal and Spain and we're hoping we'll get to re-plan it for later this year. The Basque Country is on the top of our list!
I love and miss San Sebastian. My family and I have visited 3 times already, having stayed in the square of la Catedral de Buen Pastor and Parte Vieja (the third time was a drive down from Biarritz). We've only explored the old town and Gros, but I'm always interested in parts south of the cathedral and more of Gros. It's such a bicycle friendly city, too, and we have enjoyed going through the tunnels of this part of Spain. I love pintxos and especially white anchovies. We can't get in them in California the way you do. We had to cancel our April trip to Barcelona because of the COVID-19 quarantine; most of it was planned because of your wonderful channel. I hope you and Yolly continue to stay safe. I hope to see your wonderful country and taste your amazing food again soon.
Hola! My best friend and his wife are vising Spain as I write this and have family in San Sebastian. They're in Santander now but will return soon. Their favorite bar in San Sebastian is La Espiga, and I can see why that is so. I have passed through the city twice on the way to and from Germany back in the early 1970s, when I was stationed in Berlin in the Army. You are fascinating and very informative about all things Spanish. It would be a lot of fun to accompany you on one of your trips through the country. Sadly, I won't be able to do that, too old and creaky at 76 to do much traveling these days. I had a shot at learning Spanish a two years ago, when I got back into contact with an amiga from my army days. Unfortunately, she had a stroke about a year ago and cannot communicate at all now. Thanks again for all you do for those of us outside your wonderful country. Viva Espana!
Hi I think I have seen all your videos and I love them! What I love most of all is how you two love and appreciate each other! And Yoli is absolutely beautiful..I wish you both the very best forever
Hi James and Yoli, tried leaving a comment on how much fun it was watching you two at home cooking, but having a hard time with this RUclips update. Besides that, really was surprised and happy to see a new video, and it all looked delicious. Hope you and yours are staying safe and well. Thank you!
Hi James and Yolanda, I just visited San Sebastián and Barcelona following some of your tips and recommendations from your RUclips channel. I must say all the places I visited were absolutely fantastic and I would like to say gracias☺️☺️☺️
A zurito is smaller than a caña -- usually half-sized. That's what makes it perfect for pintxos -- you're not drinking quite so much when you go from bar to bar.
It was also for broken guys , to streching the money, like me in san sebastian,in eighties, can be 8 side the bar with music etc etc ,for no much money😅😅
Wow! Everything you guys ate looks soooooooo goooood! Thinking about you guys! Can't wait until everything settles down and Devour tours can get back in the rhythm.
You and Yoly look like you had a lot of fun during the film of this vlog(or really good editing, HA). The food looks yummy and the people that run these places really come across as genuine.
I really liked this one, I am hoping to be able to visit San Sebastian at one point in the future when all this madness ends and this video gave me great ideas as far as local places to visit for pintxos! Stay Safe!
thanks for this -- SS is my happy place (sorry, I know you guys are Madrilenos) but I'm happy to see you focus on areas outside the Antiquo & love the way you two present these clips -- no annoying techno music or weird intros (well this one I think you started it) but its straight to the point & from your perspective. Appreciate that !
As far as Spanish food I tried, Basque food is my absolute favorite and I haven't even been to Basque region, but the best food I had even in Catalonia was Basque.
I remember gramma used to pickle sardines in her clay jars, and when they were ready to make fish sauce for her kimchee she would take to and put on a plate for me and give some fresh picked chili peppers and a bowl of rice. the first anchovy dish really reminds me of what i remember.
Hey guys, people who are not familiar with Spain may not know why you are always standing when you go to a restaurant/pub... Maybe you explained it before, but we think it may be useful to folks who don't know about that style of eating in Spain. :-). Absolutely loved this video... and thank you for the Euskera lessons!!!
Wish I discovered your videos 6 months ago when were there. But that's ok. Wify and I are planning a trip to Lisbon and Southern Spain hopefully December. Great work BTW. Stay safe!
Mnomnomnomnom that all looked good, and I can tell I'm getting better because I really wanted to eat the dishes, they looked sooooo yummy. I'm almost there guys, almost. My taste got back a little today, smell is still gone, hopefully back soon as well. And then, I'm gonna order from local restaurants over here, I think I deserve that after these hell-weeks. Thanks again for a great video, stay safe. 😊❤️👍
Funny how organ meats are actually great tasting - the cow tongue , livers, etc. are far more flavorful ( and tender) than most folks realize. Those pintxos sure looked great. Great video.
All fantastic places and great food, Yummy, Been up there for three years, mainly in Pamplona, but was in Sanse long time too, Hondaribia also very good
My mouth is watering soooo much! Places in Melbourne that call themselves Tapas bars are not a patch on the real thing. Last in Spain in 2019 ….. pre Covid. Can’t wait to get back there.
How "Delicioso!" I would levitate if I could go "pintxos" bar hopping with Salustiano😍 My son & DAUGHTER went to Spain 2 yrs ago & rented a car. They drove everywhere. WOW they enjoyed everything with such delight. They loved ALL the food😋
Thanks for your videos as a new comer we followed this one in San Sebastián - going to the outer areas was a great tip! One was not so happy to see tourists it would appear (not one of your recommendations)! Ssua was fantastic , booked a table and ate the most delicious food, albeit in the old city!!!
I am from Caceres and live in Perth (Australia). I love your channel. One thing I miss a lot about Spain is the large pharmacies (well, and supermarkets too) where you can buy toiletries: soaps, shower gels, deodorants, fresh colognes, etc. Yoli should do a supermarket tour of Spanish toiletries, I am sure it would be very popular.
I studied in San Sebastian 1993-1994 and it was an expensive city, people from Bilbao and Vitoria always complained and tried to explain how expensive it was compared to theirs...I remember myself that a bocadillo de tortilla went for 300 pesetas, pinxto 250 pesetas and basically all canas at least 150 pesetas!
Saw already many of your videos, but now I subscribed ! Did you eat all that in one day ? I am German and actually I live near Barcelona, but at the moment we are locked down in Galicia, where my wife is from. I know a lot of great places to have fantastic food all over Spain, but looking your videos I am still learning. Thanks a lot !
Uptil 47 years of age, I had visited 2 years in USA , 10 seaside having states, Mexico, France, Italy, Malta, All balkan countries, Romania, Bulgaria, Greece, China, Thailand, Georgia, Ukraine, Germany, Spain, Britain, Portugal, Amsterdam, Dubai, Abu Dhabi , Cyprus for 6 years in total visit time. Pintxos are delicious in vinegar oil.
I was in San Sebastian in January. Some of the best food I have tried in my life. Best place I have eaten in my opinion over there was Borda Berri in the old town.
Lengua (de vaca) a la vinagreta its pretty popular here in Argentina too. Its one of those dishes that fair better in simple terms, just that and perhaps some bread but without anything else (no condiments like mayonnaise, no egg, no cheese, just the meat on its vinagreta and the bread
The best video to see while cooped up at home! Where did you have amazing wings in Orlando? Seems hard to believe - eg maybe wings outside of the US aren’t all that impressive - but ??? And so many guindillas in the gilda! I’ve been making mine all wrong! 🤪
You guys have come so far... and its so cool to have developed what you have. My wife (Russian and I American) did something similar in the past but more a mix of e-commerce and moving forward in health care within the US (which was challenging). Anywho... you rock, we've followed you since and it'd be fun to talk. Planning on a trip to San Sebastian and or Barcelona this year and would like to talk... will buy a tour.... hope to meet as we're considering the medical work we do now for Ukraine and perhaps how Spain revealed tours might pair up. Feel free to DM me.
Hi. We're in Bilbao and can't remember the bar(s) that were good for txakoli and or cidre. Any suggestions would be appreciated . Jack and Vera Caselles
I think I gain a few pounds watching you eat, but I try to watch these videos while I am walking. This way I can live vicariously through you and not gain a pound...
Hi James and Yoly, in your travels in Spain, have you ever come across stuffed Calamari ??? It's one of my favorite dishes and it's so hard to find... I hope all is well, Jimi
What's a Pintxo? personally, I have always thought of it as a pinch of something all thrown together before the main event back home. A pinch of this, a bite of that, several glasses of wine/beer and patxaran later and ala, back home for a lentejas, steak and chips.
You're killing me. We're still waiting for the gates to open so we can move back to Spain. But all good things come, right? Thanks for the remote Spanish Goodness.
James and Yoly Are you and your family okay? It was reported 748 deaths today in Spain. Please stay safe we all care about you
I was just going to say.Everyone woke up and it was all just a bad dream.
James and Yoly, I love this compilation of pintxo bars. Please stay healthy!
A month ago Chile was already shutting down, but don't worry in a year from now tourism will recover 25%. No more stupid potatoes at 3,3 euros.
Thank you - our families are safe and sound for the moment. I hope yours are too.
I feel kind of nostalgic being in lockdown in San Sebastián and watching your video, also imagining how happy i will be when this is over and i'll be able to enjoy San Sebastián's pintxos and bars. No veas que ganas. 🥰
Love that you guys prove with your videos that professional production is possible without network money! You guys rock!
Watching this is a torture now that we are lockdown...
Snake Stay strong! Greetings from BCN ( Catalonia, Spain )
Ah, but think of how much sweeter everything will taste and feel once we all get out of quarantine. Hang in there!!! Saludos desde los Estados Unidos!!!

Great and informative we going there after the problem goes away
Love these videos - spent a fair amount of time in Spain, but never been to San Sebastian. Food looks next level.

I'm glad Paul!
That potato dish is amazing after I have been walking all day. Love it.

Basque food is excellent
The best food in Spain is the one that you get in San Sebastián!
Your wonderful video brightens my lockdown day in NZ.
Thanks ma xxx
San Sebastián is almost better in the off season as you can avoid the crowds and enjoy the local surroundings. Thank you for the video.
Only thing better than the pintxos is the energy you guys give off - Keep it up!
I remember gramma used to pickle sardines in her clay jars, and when they were ready to make fish sauce for her kimchee she would take to and put on a plate for me and give some fresh picked chili peppers and a bowl of rice. the first anchovy dish really reminds me of what i remember.

My mouth is watering soooo much! Places in Melbourne that call themselves Tapas bars are not a patch on the real thing. Last in Spain in 2019 ….. pre Covid. Can’t wait to get back there.
Very cool 😎 video. I will check out San Sebastián next year.
Those tapas looks delicious !!

I assume that this was filmed pre-lockdown. San Sebastien is a lovely place, but unknown to many people.
And I hope it stays like that and doesn't become another Barcelona, that would make me very sad.
I am from Caceres and live in Perth (Australia). I love your channel. Thank you James!! Great vid
San Sabestien will have to wait a bi, but I do look forward to this tour.
This should be classified as torture for those in lockdown! Mouthwatering!!!!
Just booked 4 nights in SAN Sebastián for August, loving these recommendations ☺️
I just returned. It's amazing. The food, the architecture the vibe - everything.
I love you put the prices, great video 👍🏽
Good show. Thanks for posting. Stay safe.
I NEEDED THIS SOOOOOO BAD!!!!
Yo vivo aqui y has acertado😀 eskerrik asko (gracias)

I'm sure a lot has changed since then - including the prices!
Can’t wait to get there!
Hi guys, you're missing out on a very important spanish custom: eating bread! Especially where there's sauce. Love the videos.
Wow really looks yammi , almost bit in to my iPad where i am watching this!!!!
Great video thanks, do you have one for pinxtos in Bilbao?
One of the best restaurants I went to in San Sebastian was La Taberna de Blas. Highly recommend it, and the owner was so amazing!

Just booked a tour, on the back of this vid. Nice one. 👍

Wow 👍🥂🍺🍸🍺🍸🍻🍸🍻🍸🍻🥂🍺🍻
, Bet u guys are missing this during Lockdown
Totally. But there's a time for everything :)
I was in San Sebastian in January. Some of the best food I have tried in my life. Best place I have eaten in my opinion over there was Borda Berri in the old town.

Are these anchovies I see in all the Pintxo from the can or fresh?
Love watching you and your wife. I went to Madrid and Barcelona in enero. Wanted to do a tour with you but did not understand how.
Thank you! I don't give tours personally. But Yoly does - over at flamencoguide.com (well, once we've gotten over this virus).
Hi. We're in Bilbao and can't remember the bar(s) that were good for txakoli and or cidre. Any suggestions would be appreciated .
Jack and Vera Caselles
Mouth is watering my cuboards have literally soup and rice pudding 😭😭😭 when this is over I will be eating me some tapas
That's interesting you say Bull tail in New Zealand ? we call it Ox tail in Blighty, just an observation 😉
Alway's superb food in Spain
Por favor, gracias, lo siento? My mamma told me so and shes from the Philippines! Dad is from albacete, hellin? Semana Santa is big there?
Hey mate! I live in Orlando and was curious where you ate the best wings. Want to check them out for myself! Lol😂
Maravilloso...
Am coming to San Sebastián in October, I want to do a tour with you guys
Videos such as this should come with a WARNING: DO NOT VIEW ON AN EMPTY STOMACH! Seriously, this was terrific, thanks.
I've had it once - probably near the beach.
Thanks

You're killing me. We're still waiting for the gates to open so we can move back to Spain. But all good things come, right? Thanks for the remote Spanish Goodness.

I have actually cried over a tomato in Setenel de las Bodegas. Fat juicey tomato with olive oil, vinegar and sea salt. I's so proud of that. lol.
Yes Mama! Says it all!
