My grandfather was in the marines my Great grandfather was in the army My father and I are life long firearms enthusiasts. We love the videos and appreciate all the knowledge wisdom .
I branched out into the AR-15 world and over a period of time built four of them. Great experience. There's just something very rewarding about making something that works!
Wise words! I am 63 years old and have tried a lot of different firearms from muzzle loaders to AR-15 and everything in between. I try to learn something new every day, in fact, I am just now getting into reloading. Y'all stay safe out there and keep expanding your knowledge!
I would also add don’t be afraid to sell some of your guns to enjoy different ones. I found it wasn’t feasible for me to hold on to all of them so I sold some so that I could get different ones. I have shot ar platforms, lever action, bolt action, pump, semi auto pistol, revolver both double and single action, muzzle loader, black powder cap and ball revolver. There are just so many
You don't know what you don't know! 🎉 I'm 66 years young and keep it simple. Ruger P95DC. Browning Auto-5 12-gauge. A Maadi survivor. Stay the course young man!
My only blackpowder muzzle loading guns are cannon. I suggest folks trying out cannon if they want to get into blackpowder. A 2.5" bore is a lot more fun than a .58 cal.😊
When I got my first pistol, I had zero interest in any kind of long gun. I just finished building my first AR-15 and the MSR platforms in general have become a favorite for me. You don’t know till you try.
I’m about to be 27, if there’s 2 important things I’ve learned in life with firearms it’s A. Nobody knows what’s best for you but YOU, and B. Often times the very thing you think you so strongly dislike, will end up being the thing you enjoy the most, if you allow yourself the chance to learn. I mean it’s just logic isn’t it? You can’t really say for certain you like or dislike a thing till you’ve actually ran it through the paces yourself.
Once upon a time, I competed in muzzle-loader games like running deer and silhouette. Ended up glass bedding the action and barrel up to the assemble lug. At that point that Thompson half-stock would KO coke cans at 50 yards as in 10 out of 10 hits.
Guilty as charged. I'm an old guy and I know what I like. Blue steel and wood. Lever guns, double shotguns, single shot 22 bolt rifles and revolvers would be my thing. I wouldn't take the gift of a plastic gun. Although I did have one when I was 4, it shot a cool rubber tipped dart.
I love them all, old and modern, though now I seek wood and steel firearms made prior to 1960. I have black powder guns, single actions, single shot pistols and rifles, double action revolvers, semiauto pistols, AK's, AR's, HK, FAL, even Glocks. WWII Military surplus rifles are fun and fascinating. Your advice is wise. At least try them all.
Old fart here unlike a youngster like you lol coincidentally my sons friend came over to meet me. He wanted to know how to nickel plate stuff and had seen the black powder revolvers I have done. Well... 3 hours later I really had not shown him the process because there are so many important things before the actual plating we had to go over and one thing led to another as most are interconnected... Polishing metal cleaning etc... Also.. show him one thing and it leads to "you do that too?' it is like maybe I have too many hobbies? I don't think so. I love the learning process. I like to say build a Hawkins 50 and shoot it.. or try loads for .30 carbine revolvers and chrono stuff etc.. Too many things to do and not enough time. but... stop learning and you die. one disclaimer... I used to change women a lot but now I am a very lucky man with one that has been able to stand me for 10 years... Oh... she hit a two liter at 100 yards with my old PPC gun.
Ok... some things I have tried did not stick.... LOL plastic guns just never stuck. Except maybe a pistol caliber carbine...Shooting the black powder revolver clones from Italy is great fun tho.
You are right mr. hickok, you can't come on a better time sir...after 5 years of AK/AR/and everything in between.Lately i came to start enjoying the likes of modern made(not necessarily ~new design) "coach gun",the beauty of double barrel~triple barrel~single barrel beauty of shotgun....thanks you sir:)) "always love your full of knowledgeable show:)"
I've owned long guns for more than 40 years and pistols for more than 30. But I've rarely shot my pistols. However, that's changing now -- and I'm already starting to want a 22/45 and a 1911! 😀
Calls to mind the Baker rifle of the Napoleonic Wars and featured in the Sharpe series being used to pick off French officers at insane distances. Outmoded, perhaps, but obsolete, not yet.
My first firearm was an Uzi. Not your typical starting point I suppose. Other than that it's mainly WW1 / WW2 infantry rifles. I guess I haven't branched out too much beyond that but modern stuff just doesn't interest me. I have a very few ARs and other modern rifles and I'm glad I have them and they're certainly more capable. But if I'm going to the range for a day I'm more likely to grab a M1917 than something modern :) I would like to do more with older firearms though, I've wanted a blunderbuss since I was a kid. The trouble there is I've no interest in a modern reproduction and the only old ones I've seen have been wrecks with sky high prices.
Yea, I totally hear ya man... Although I just do bb guns, I'm getting into archery now, and branching into survival kinda stuff ...it all Started with buying a BB pistol for snakes and critters... Who knows where Imma go from here, Im looking forward to the day when I purchase my first real gun 👍👍👍
There was a younger guy a few days back asked me why I have those sigle shot shotguns. Everyone know that 1 shot isn't any good and can't defend yourself with it😂
I have done most but not muzzle loaders. At 76 I just don't think it wise to add more guns. Although I might anyway! You only get one shot....uh...wait. That's not the right motto or is it slogan..... I'm 76 after all. Where was I?
They need to vote. Just tell him don't beat around the bush. Just tell him they need to vote. That's all you can do is tell him he don't want to get off their dead butts to vote. Well I don't know what that's all I got to say about that. Get them. I know some people that got some really stupid reasons for not voting and they're not listening to a word. I'm trying to tell him you have a good day
Okay, I tried a red dot once. Having always used iron sights religiously, it seemed too easy shooting with a red dot. I felt dirty like I was cheating. I will turn over a new leaf (tree). I will purchase a polymer gun (maybe a Glock) with a reflex sight. My wife is going to think that I am having a midlife crisis. Thank you for the advice.
I LOVE muzzleloaders. I’m having a New England under hammer pistol being built for me right now. Hickok, would you like to make a video with it? That would be awesome!!
Such a profoundly enlightening video. TRY NEW THINGS. IM 68 AND I ENDORSE THE VIDEO. Have a nice day and be safe 🇺🇸

If it has a trigger and it goes bang. I'm in!
We never stop learning. Once we think we know it all, we are in trouble.. thank you for your lecture.
My personal experience on the matter is this. Every type has a purpose and fills a niche. Get as many as you can and enjoy them all.

It's difficult to fit it *ALL* in, in a single lifetime. But I'm *TRYING!!* LOL Thanks for the pep talk, Hickok45!!

I started with black powder guns. I eventually bought modern autoloaders. But, I'm regressing back to the old guns I started out with.

Red dots on pistols is my fud stop.
Cowboy shooting for me. My first buckle was "Dead Ass Last"! I now have a couple of "clean match" pins. Shoot slow, shoot straight.
That’s why I like the Taurus Judge…it’s different.
G2c rules also.

I pull out the Hipoint 9mm carbine when I need something different, its dang sure different.
I just got into black powder! Music from a kinder, gentler era.

Man, i owned a 58 caliber percussion rifle years ago. Can’t tell you how much I regret having traded it away.
I couldn't afford to branch out anymore than I do already.

You should build a John Wick room and have talks in it. With a big display table.
How do you feel about supressors?
Ironic on the 'Try Something New' video that Hickok45 is wearing the same black shirt. 🤣
Bump
