I keep giving you 5 STARS for how informative your videos are!!
Thank you
More quality CR-V content. Just wanted to say I appreciate your expertise and taking the time to make these videos.
Thank you man!
This channel has been the answer to my problems. Very clear and direct content. Appreciate the work you’ve done my dude, has helped me out abit all the way here in Fiji 🇫🇯. 🙏 keep doing what you do brother.
Thank you man
Me too. Same here. I bought a 1999 Crv solely based on knowing that this channel exists to fix my 1st gen.
We love these vehicles in my family. I have an 01 EX 5-Speed with 264k, my mother has a 98 4-speed auto with 132k, and my brother has an 04!
CR-V's are great
Side note: While driving home, my evilBay driveshaft vibrated so bad it snapped the bolts attaching it to the flange and destroyed my shift cable. The cable held the driveshaft off the ground long enough for me to get off the freeway. Ordered another one and will have it balanced before installing it this time. Also, used your tips on replacing the oil pan gasket yesterday. Will keep an eye out for leaks. Cheers brother
Sheesh... always something! I'm glad you were able to make it back home safely.
It continues to be an expensive lesson. One of the flange bolts tore through a boot on the passenger side, so now I have to order that as well. Will be looking through your videos to learn how to do that job now. Cheers
You had me at “ I had to go to work “. I thought this was your work 🤔
I WAS a Police officer, but I quit in January and now have my own business.
Maybe a silly question. When you remove the cam shaft, do you need to return the engine to original position it was when you removed them? And the timing gears as well? How does this affect timing? I need new valve stem seals and am worried I’ll mess the timing up
you have to put it back in time, yes! use a paint marker to mark the orientation of the belt on cams and the crank so you can insure that you put it back at the same place
love these videos. nice car lift. will be buying some shirts and hoodie soon. Quality over MONETARY quantity is where I ended up with my small landscaping biz. It's the key to happiness.
Thank you.
From Algerian crv owner
I'm glad to have you here!
Hey, do you usually have issues reusing the hardware on that exhaust pipe where it connects to the exhaust manifold? I have to change my oil pan gasket, too, and I wanna know what to expect.
occasionally, but a good socket goes a long way.
i just did my oil pan gasket (with help from this channel)and it was worth buying the sprung bolts etc that connect to the catalytic converter as mine where seized pretty bad and just cut them off.yours maybe ok?also the nuts where a bitch to get off at the manifold end;a good soaking in WD40 before hand would help, like the day before and keep soaking them and giving them a tap with a small hammer/spanner to help it work through...good luck! :)
Can't even wait until you get to do the same on my CTR bro! Fix all her leaks lol and give me da AC! Also haha! You were talking to me at 20:42! Yay I made it in a video lol.
I can't wait to have the opportunity to do it!
Do you have a video on any 1997 AC repairs or diagnosis of certain problems
I was under the impression that the B20 engines used in 1997-2001 Honda CRVs were interference engines. I replaced the timing belt in mine in fear of ruining the engine if it broke. When I removed the old one, it looked new but had 187,000 miles on it. Was I mistaken in believing these engines are interference engines?
You’re not. I’m changing mine the Saturday. Better safe than sorry.
I've always heard they were as well but I've probably replaced 10 broken belts over the last few years and never had an issue
@@hondaresource I get what you're saying, but don't misguide people man, most Mercedes-Benz Engines are non interference engines, but here, we are talking about the most cost effective way to make a car, which is what Honda does in a reliable standpoint, but these engines are most definitely interference engines. Don't sit there and say they're non interference engines when we know for damn well they're most definitely interference engines. I love the content, but this steers me away when you give an opinion, not facts, that being said, you'll steer people away when giving opinions, because opinions are like assholes, we all have one. I know several people that had to replace there engines because of the snapped belt. I know you're in the RD1 group on Facebook too. You're very knowledgeable, so don't ruin your reputation by giving your opinion.
@@donutcrash well my opinion is... I've probably replaced 20 broken b20 belts over the last 15 years and NEVER had a SINGLE bent valve. Most recent being today.
Excellent thanks. Grant.
Thanks, man. This will be very helpful.
I think I'm willing to drive out there all the way from NYC just to have you service my Rd1! I'll pay whatever ! 😅
That's a long drive😂
I'm from new Jersey wanting to make the same trip to have Phil do timing belt. 17 hours one way but we'll worth a 3 day trip for the adventure in my 99 Crv
I had no clue these weren’t interference motors, I’ve always been told they were and if the belt snapped you’re SOL?
I can't tell you how many broken belts I've replaced on these without issue.
@@hondaresource that’s good to know, just got a 99 ex pretty happy with it so far
My 2000 crv started giving starting issues starting . I drive 60 miles to work each way it would start each way but if I stopped anywhere it was hell getting to start . I changed every part I could think off new distributor, neutral safety switch, spark plugs, battery several sensors. I got it started drove around and back to square one. Any ideas
main relay or ignition switch plug
dry solder on main relay
I love your channel. Unfortunately I found it a little late. I have a 99 CR-V which I removed the cams and valves but I didn't keep them in order. Now I have a mean tik and hoping a lash adjustment fixes it. My question is when you put the cams back in is their a certain way to install them? Like TDC or something because one of my cams looks to be off a tooth towards the front of the truck and it runs but not as great as it did. I'm thinking about redoing it and following your video steps but I didn't see how you installed the cams.
Yeah man do the valve lash adjustment. I put everything at tdc when I reinstalled the belt.
Love the channel, so keep up the great content. My question regards a valve lashing gone wrong. What do we do if after loosening the jam nut, you can't loosen the screw driver any further? I can't get any feeler gages in there at all. I still have compression, but I am sure the valve seat has received to far.
are you sure that the engine is rotated to the proper position?
Random question. Is there any more modestly priced alternative for a 2001 Honda CRV e x all-wheel drive automatic transmission transmission fluid other than the recommended Honda Stuff? Valvoline multi-vehicle?
Every mechanic I’ve ever met has always said not to put anything other than OEM transmission fluid in a Honda.
Thank you so much for all the information I have a 2000 Honda CR-V I do my best to keep it up in maintain 👍👍
Awesome
Hey man love the channel. About to dive into a rack and pinion swap out. Any chance you wanna do that video? Lol jk kinda. I think I got it just love your resource. Thanks!
I've done a couple racks on these. They aren't fun
Hello , I live in Turkey and have a crv 1999 , ask a question pls , how can I do calibration to speedometer ? I cant find about this problems videos
I don't know of any way to calibrate the speedometer without something like a speedohealer etc
Awesome! This task is next on the agenda. Question:
Is it necessary to follow the removal sequence of the camshafts? I've heard "yes" and "no"? It looks like you zipped through it so I'm guessing not.
Also, thanks for the detailed explanation of the rope method. I've seen it several times but didn't understand what other people were doing. No doubt I would have dropped a valve. I appreciate you sharing your knowledge, I'll be ordering a t shirt and a hoodie. Take care.
Technically I suppose you should work outside in, but in my experience on the b20's non of the cam caps lift after removing all the bolts.
Thanks to enlighteñ me on how to do a valve lash what the name of the magnetic tool
thanks for the video! steering is stiff, softens when accelerating. Any ideas?(CR-V RD1).
Power steering pump is failing.
thank you.@@hondaresource
is it repairable? I prefer to repair rather than get an used one.@@hondaresource
Excellent videos, just subscribed. Quick question, do you know about how much is used in each cylinder....2 to 3 ft? Thanks again.
I'm not sure really. I couple feet would probably do the trick
Hi thanks for all the info! I had a question as to which valve compressor tool you are using is that a lisle one?
yeah, I use the Lisle tool. It's a nice unit!
Hi sir,
I did a full frontal suspension rebuild upper lower controls, ball joints, tie rods and links, new fr rear struts, stabilizer bushings, etc. Does it occur to you that the corner handling of these 1st gen will only get as good as they are in this day in age? The handling got better but the floaty feel on the freeway slightly still exist. Im thinking of putting spacers on.
The rear shocks can also make it feel floaty.
@@hondaresource i wanted to ask you if u have had any 1st gen crvs with a wobbly crank pully balancer? I replaced mine and its still wobbly.
Hello, where do you get the cord, oh if it has to be special? I have that same project on my 99 crv
Most any hardware or home improvement store should have some
What is the tool called my man? To take out the valve springs and keeper? Tia
It is a Lisle valve spring tool.
Yo bro can I use the adjustable upper control arms from the 99 ex civic
On the 97 crv??
yes, but they are shorter than crv arms
Do I need to adjust valve lashes on my D16 if it's due after more tnan 50k mileage, but it sounds alright, no clicks or weird noise or whatever.
@Adam Chapman thanks mate
I wouldn't say a lash adjustment is as important on a d series as it is on a b20, but it definitely wouldn't hurt
Do theses motor has a crank sensor cause i noticed mine didn't have one
They do in the US. Japanese market didn’t though
How many miles are on this baby at the time of all this work
I don't really know. Prob around 200k
Ok love Hondas I have couple myself newes is a 2013 bought new already at 250,000 miles
Great videos have a 99 and a 2001 I’ve had about 10 of these fist gens so far and there great little suvs
What was the reason you had replaced the window regulator?
it wasnt working
you sir, are my Go to men for the job!
Thank you brother!
very useful
Thank you
Replacing master cylinder on CRV 2001
Replacing all the valves stem seals is not even worth all that hard work. Pull out the cylinder head, buy the head gasket kit, send the cylinder head to a machine shop, and do the job right. If the valve stem seals need to be replaced, then guess what? So does the head gasket. Here in southern California, sending out the head to a machine shop is only $120, maybe a little more. And yes, I've already tried resurfacing the head myself, lapping the valves, but this saved me no money considering the time it takes to run the block back & forth across some flat surface with 2 sanding belts glued to it, then repeating the same process with a finer sand paper as a final step. Here in the U.S., you shouldn't be that poor, or that cheap to just send it out to a machine shop and reinstalling the head yourself.
Great videos!!will you be doing one on piston ring replacement?hint hint :)
Probably not because that's a full rebuild and typically I just replace the whole engine if it needs a complete rebuild.
@@hondaresource okidokey,no worries :)
@@hondaresource okidokey,no worries :) but what would be your first guess if a mk1 CRV was using oil?its not leaking it,I've just replaced the rocker cover/camshaft gasket(i'm in the UK so call them different things)and replaced the sump/oil pan gasket too.both dry as a bone!..seems to use about 200ml every 300 miles..not massive amounts but still you have to watch it.do you think sea foam products are any good for say cleaning piston heads and valves full of carbon?could it be that?any ideas on a cure?..cheers,Dave

Can’t see you taking it apart, it’s too far away.
I most likely have a detailed video for every repair I did to this thing on my channel

what's wrong with it?
