It is amazing to see how you take things apart with ease. As a CRV owner, I have been learning so much from your channel. Thanks for sharing your work.
Thanks for all your help man! Any tips on what to look for if you need to buy a replacement engine? Does it even matter if your going to rebuild it anyway?
Just finished taking out the engine from my 2001 CRV. Any recommendations for aligning the engine to the transmission when putting in the new engine. Love the video it helped a lot !! Thank you!
Hey, about the seatbelts. I can confirm its crazy how strong they are. I used work at a junkyard on a frontend Loader. Some guys would come in every day, pull motors and collect them at the end of the week. I've seen those belts pick up 2 or 3 truck motors at a time as I put them in the back of a truck. Its Crazy!!!
Nice! I've never tried to lift multiple with one belt but they are incredibly strong, super adjustable and not likely to damage anything on the engine.
My CR-V is 1998 model, it's been well taken good care of, just last week I went for servicing , changed drive shaft comber and almost everything under the front,(suspension), but now my vehicle is not moving again, when I engage the gear you'll feel it's really engaged but vehicle Will not move, no problem with gear selector and selections but it won't move, brakes are fine not binding at all, transmission oil is full, pls what could be the issue, can you help?
If the valves are not adjusted properly every 60,000 miles they drop down and they get chipped by the Piston head eliminating the compression I've got a valve if you want to look at it! The VTech engine that Honda brought out in the second generation which I have one of those as well is the bulletproof one! First one is terrific as long as you remember valve adjustment keep the oil clean good videos cheers mate
What actually happens with this generation of motor is poor valve seats. If the valves are not adjusted frequently enough [I suggest 30,000 miles] they seat themselves too deep in the valve seat and lose their clearance. The valve then stays partially open during combustion and in a short time you have a burnt valve and no compression on that cylinder. It looks like a chip because the edge of the valve is burnt out, but if the valve and the piston actually hit the piston will also be damaged and the valve will usually be bent not chipped.
@@Mudpuppyjunior I currently have 300.800 miles on my '98 CRV which I bought new in March of that year and in my case I've found checking/adjusting the valve clearance every 30K to be overkill. Over the years I've slowly experimented on how far I could stretch out the intervals and the last three times I've done it at the 50K mark and even at that mileage mark I've only had to make small adjustments to several of them.
Did u used the usdm ecu and did u get any codes? I by passed the crank sensor but now its throwing a knock sensor code. I dont think the b20b has a knock sensor..?

Did you remember the air enrichment solenoid and the driving space continuum switches in to? You went so fast I couldn't tell. Also the headlight fluid is filled by the petcock correct? Is that like driven by a belt or shafts?
If it were a manual, is it required to do that uncoupling with the torque converter I assume? An engine with a manual transmission should just separate at the flywheel right?
When you're at the part where you're taking off the bolts that Hold the transmission to the engine that big cheese greater looking thing. How do you spin it to get to the other nuts if you're engine is locked up?
Can you put a 97-99 engine on a 2000-01 CRV. My 2000 crv has been in the shop for 3 weeks and my mechanic now tells me i need to look for a motor from 00-01. Because of the computer. I want to know how accurate this is because other people tell me it's all the same. Please help !
No, the engine will not slide over far enough in the engine bay to clear the clutch. If the engine goes out on a manual, I just remove the entire swap.
Any one know what the normal RPM on a 1998 Honda CR-V at 100kph 62MPH? It has 4 gears shifts and no overdrive. Also if anyone knows, is there a transmission oil filter in the transmission for the 1998 Honda CR-V and if so where on earth is it? Generally speaking, they line up pretty easy. Just make sure the alignment dowels are in.

Liked your video! What was your trick for replacing the front pulley without using the "special" torque tool?
You can rent a tool at the parts store to hold the crank pulley while you loosen the bolt.

pretty much same process for awd and fwd. They are great reliable (for the most part), cheap to repair transportation.
my honda dealership is trying to charge me 4500 to replace the head gasket should I just replace the whole motor?
That's crazy money.
Do you have a video on pulling the engine and the transmission together on a '90-01?
Will I get any codes after swapping in a jdm b20 into my crv? Just curious if I will have any issues passing emissions in NYC with the new JDM motor.
Only if you don't bypass the crack sensor or swap in a usdm oil pump.
Hey nice job ! Will this method work with a manual transmission? Im worried about the input shaft being too long to make enough clearance
I generally remove the complete swap in order to do manual transmission replacement

Also the headlight fluid is filled by the petcock correct? Is that like driven by a belt or shafts?

The 97-98 motor will go in the 99-01. Just have to swap the intake manifold, distributor and swap over the knock sensor. It'll run perfect.
Hey I wanted to know what would bolt on and keep the awd drive tran without going 2wd if I want to go with a newer motor
I have a 2002 CRV , and I would like to know if I can upgrade the engine with something more powerful
Yes, if you have a manual. Not really if it's auto

Heck yeah brother 🤟
Unfortunately I've now blown up the transmission in my 1999 honda crv b20z
Love this video! Thank you for all your content!
Great video! 🙏🏼🙌🏼 Gonna be swapping mine out for a jdm version, do you know if I need a jdm transmission or can I use my original usdm one
Use the original trans 🤟
Do we have to take off the crankshaft pull to get it in?
It helps with clearance if you remove it
Hey I have a question, can we use the same method of lifting the engine if the car has a manual transmission?
Thanks!!
No, the engine will not slide over far enough in the engine bay to clear the clutch. If the engine goes out on a manual, I just remove the entire swap.
@@hondaresource awesome thanks for the info 👍👍 much appreciated!
so i have a 2001 honda crv and the engine went bad i got a new one and put it in but the bracket from the axle to engine isnt lining up any ideas?
Is the intermediate shaft seated all the way into the trans? All the books holes are in the same position on all the b series engines
Can u drop them out of the bottom?
Can you disconnect the wiring harness from the Ecu as one piece ? Or do you have disconnect every connection
You can disconnect directly from the ecu, but you will have to take all the connections off the trans in order to pull harness with engine.
My O2 sensors light was on for a while do you think it's a culprit for the smoke coming out of my tailpipe
Na, probably something like valve seals
Thanks man I'm going to see if my mechanic can check that out
Hello, if I wanted to change both the engine and transmission will both come out together?
Absolutely
Thanks for the tip on the crank socket!!
Yessir! Definitely a worthwhile investment

Can you put the b1 from the 97 on a 2001 or will it have problems?
you can put the 97 engine in the 01, but I would recommend swapping the intake manifold and distributor.
Would you replace a B20Z with a B20B
I have a 2001 crv awd
JDM b20 or b20b4
