It's not that the RNG isn't great, it's that it's accurate for once. The first 6 (maybe 5), FE games used single RNG, and so does Echoes. Sure, you hit less, but it's actually displaying the proper number
14:32 "these characters personality and backstory have already been established" have you even played Gaiden? or at least talked to someone who has? Gaiden barely has any dialogue whatsoever. once you've recruited a character they'll never say anything ever again. well except for their death quote. and even before you recruit them they don't say much. that exchange between Luthier and Delthea that you get when you recruit Delthea was not in Gaiden. the only thing that conversation amounted to was Delthea saying thanks then joining.
I don't think this dude has played anything prior to permadeath, he said shadowdragon and advance were bad....he probably got fucked past 2-3 levels and hates the games cause they're too hard for him.
He has played the GBA games(Sacred Stones was his first FE), the Tellius games, Shadow Dragon, the 3DS games, He said he was playing FE4 a while back, and is playing Three Houses on his lets play channel.
I heard a Let's Player named Bigklingy speculate that an FE game that combines Echoes' storytelling with Fates' game-play could potentially make for one of the best games in the series.
I feel like Faye is the creators' personal commentary about that section of the fanbase obsessed with self inserting their avatar with their preferred character. She's a warning to impressionable young shippers about the dangers of going extreme with self inserting and fantasizing. Faye's unlikable because she's meant to be someone you don't want to become. That's my interpretation of her, but even so I still find her annoying and don't think it's a good enough reason to make me like her.
keldeothehorse Is she though? At least most of the female characters have more than one character trait and motivation. That’s already a step up above anything Faye ever gets.
It really depents on what you seek in a Fire Emblem game. I like story over gameplay, so I really like Echoes. You probably like gameplay more which is why you'll likely like Echoes a bit less.
Someone who actually critiques the writing would be nice. Really, I've seen no one say that the "writing" is bad. Story? It's an expansion of an NES game. It's not going to be perfect. But for how it is writen, and the story itself is more than fates and awakening
14:30 Ummm.... Blazing Knight, they did have to work with brand new material for the most part. Most of these characters were lucky if they even got 2 textboxes of dialogue in the original.
I'd honestly give it a 7.5-8/10 great characterization, cast, artstyle, VA, story(to some extent), improve forging, combat Arts and presentation but feels archaic in map design, lack of replay value, short(make sense given that's what Gaiden means) and gameplay also hate Cantors! plus wish they had a few cross supports when they merge ie Alm with Celica man that'd be amazing at least they obviously have their lovey dovey moments still though can't wait for FE Switch in 2018!
Besides, 7.8 is not by ANY MEAN bad score, is a very decent and fair score (and people just really need to get in their heads that it deserve that score because of its assets). Besides, like Jim Sterling said: "If you think this game is a 10/10 and the best game ever made, why are you here defending a meaningless score somebody gave to it in the internet and not playing it?"
Edgar Garcia 7.8/10 is a good score I just think people didn't like the reasons Ign gave also it's a new game and hype makes people ignore flaws and think everything's 10/10.
The way I see it is this: 6.0 to 6.9 is an alright game 7.0 to 7.9 is an good game 8.0 to 8.9 is an great game 9.0 to 9.9 is an outstanding game 10 is an perfect or at least nearly perfect game
Kinu FoxySpirit Replay value isn't that bad! The villagers make for varied gameplay and almost every character is optional to recruit making runs very different depending on who you recruit.
Just now getting around to this and... your opinion is fair. I love this game. All the heart that went into it astounds me. How it's a send up to Awakening, a parallel to Shadow Dragon, and it's own story is great. It set the bar for what a Fire Emblem game needs to be going forward. Now if that bar is low or high, I don't know. I liked Alm's maps and hated Celica's. I remember more personal fights than I do the maps they were in. The music is ear-candy at times but I didn't realize or remember there were so many songs. The RNG was stupid but the fights were fun to watch. The supports were a breath of fresh air or a distraction but also utterly pointless and few. The village conversations provided more backstory for the characters than anything else. I like the smaller details like units cheering each other on or both Alm and Celica having different monologues when entering a dungeon or viewing something... but I find little to no reason to replay the game except to try things differently. I'm not going for all the awards but renown is a big factor in global listing. Even streetpass can keep me going back to dungeons even if I admit I don't like it. So on the whole, I think it's a good game. I may not replay it as much as Awakening or Fates (as 100% can be achieved in one play through) but I'm glad I got to experience it. Being someone who started with Awakening, it makes me look forward to new remakes and stories that don't follow the pandering trend like Fates or have more memorable villains than Awakening. I almost every character which is not something I can say for Awakening or Fates. Hopefully we'll get the good of all games come Switch. I want to see this series thrive. I may hate the fanbase, but I'm glad when it grows with more diversity.
Echoes is, in all reality, the anti-fates. specifically conquest. great story, and overly boring and frustrating gameplay with several maps being great. but i'd be lying if i say i didn't expect that from the get-go. echoes is a game you need to play in with a certain mindset. and only then once you've seperated it from the rest of the series do you enjoy it to it's fullest. that's what makes it better than fates and awakening in my eyes, as those games suffer from a total identity crisiis, taking the series in a new direction, but at the same time trying too hard to be "fire emblem" Echoes has its own identity and knows what it is. it doesn't try to be any other game (other than gaiden of course) while awakening tried (and failed to be a giant three act epic like RD) and fates tried to hard to outdo awakening. echoes took a flawed game and made it into a game with well... quirks. and honestly i love it. i said that it was the best FE since new mystery and I will stick to that statement. had it gotten a few more months in development, maybe those forced story beats could've been ironed out and made the story on par wit FE6, 7 or 9. (because at this point the fanbase has finally realized how great SS's story is and I love it) but as it stands i'd say echoes is a better fire emblem than awakening and fates, but not a better game. (if that makes any sense. )
If you get into the game with the mindset that this is a NES game and they can only gimp it so much, it's a very enjoyable experience. Fates bit off much more than it could chew and was messy in many places.
I agree. I think I loved Echoes so much because it was literally the opposote of Fates, like you said. I despised Fates SO much that it caused me to absolutely love Echoes very much.
Honestly, Echoes is either my 3rd or 2nd favorite Fire Emblem game for me. Sure, the gameplay does get repetitive at points, but I'm perfectly ok with that. The maps may not be very good, but they look fantastic. They are detail packed, as opposed to Fates, which had some detailed levels, and others that, weren't. The story, while certainly forced at points, is something I honestly didn't notice until the middle of Celica's route. Also, the game has 3-5th tier classes, which I want to see come back
ZerkMonsterHunter 4 I agree mate, and even though I've only played awakening and fates so far, this game was amazing, and I'm currently replaying it. Imo it's better than fates in almost everything except for a couple of things that I can't remember at the moment. But all and all I love this game, the characters, I got the hang of it pretty quickly for being a "new FE fan" and I can't wait for your review of this game (if you're doing one) since I feel kinda weird and split about his review, but its his opinion so I can't do anything about that.
If you have to play the game with a "certain mindset", that's not really a good sign. "Wanna play Superman 64? I mean you have to play it with a certain mindset to enjoy it, but still" (before anyone flips out, I'm not saying Echoes is Superman 64 bad). The FE series, as any other series really, should be enjoyed by anyone, and what you're basically saying from what I understand is "only FE players will understand". It's ok to love a shitty game, I mean look at Ghast. Gaiden is/was his favourite game. But even he knows that the game sucks and has way too many flaws to be called a good game. I loved Brawl competitively, but the unbalanced bullshit in that game is completely indefensible. Same thing goes for Echoes. Echoes has a nice story and all, but that doesn't excuse its mediocre gameplay. I still love this game.
Just to disprove the RNG claim for the septillionth time. Fire Emblems 1-6 have the most fair RNG system, where the percentage is precisely what you see on the screen, rather than 7-14 where it is to the players favor.
I'm not exactly sure if Fates' RN system is confirmed to be true hit or not. Regardless, the misconception that some RNGs are worse than others is probably due to varying definitions of "RNG." I don't think a lot of people talk about the system itself but rather their personal experience with the game.
Fates really wore thin on me. I dunno about anyone else, but for me, Echoes is much better than the other two 3ds FE games. I felt more challenged in this game than the others, and the gameplay felt more focused. Here's the deal for me. I spent a long time playing Awakening and Fates, and then jumping right into shadow dragon for the first time. So echoes came at a time where I was hoping for echoes to be a much better remake than Shadow dragon, whilst being more focused than Awakening and fates. So for me, it came at the perfect time. fuck shadow dragon btw, i've never been more bored playing a fire emblem game.
EyexSore YT the 400 uses of the turnwheel kill all of the tension for me, the maps are sooo boring especially when you have to fight 300 gargoyles, there are literally 5 classes and I beated the game on hard the just by spamming double lion or using saber as a dread fighter. As a fire emblem game the gameplay is shit but compared to the other it has better soundtrack, design and look
Awakening is a good game but Fates is by far the worst fire emblem game out there. Awakening saved the franchise while fates killed it again and Echoes saved it once again
I love your criticisms agaist Echoes. You talked about every complaint I hesitated to express in my video. I love the story and rejoice the villain issues finnally solved in this game, but I couldn't stand for the lack of replayability and map design and other stuffs.😢 I know Fates has one of the worst story-telling but the gameplay is very very fun.😙 I hope Intelligent Systems will create a new game having good things of both Exhoes and Fates😊
echoes' smaller cast definitely made me like it the most from all the fire emblem games ive played. as a player who refuses to let units die (while playing on classic which can be frustrating haha), very large casts usually just leads to fewer characters focused on, fleshed out, and remembered (read: fire emblem fates)
I don't know about anyone else, but the level and quality of voice acting in this game has spoiled me to the point where most other game voice acting has been ruined to me. Absolutely stunning production quality for sure! It may be a simple story being told, but I feel that it's told in a phenomenal way. And THANK GOD Tree House didn't touch the localization. I absolutely loved the more semi-adult themed convos. Grey is my spirit animal lol. Hidari's art I'd absolutely stunning as well, it has ruined my expectation for quality of future fire emblem character designs and overall bar for presentation. I had A LOT of fun playing without the weapon triangle, but found my Snipers equipped with a long bow to be monstrously OP, especially on maps where there is a ton of desert and the opponent move makes them sitting ducks. I loved the dungeon exploration, but definitely could have done without a lot of forced encounters. One of the biggest gripes I have about the over map is that I absolutely HATE not having them be optional like in awakening. Having the Zombie choke points to get to and from where you wanted to go on Celicas route got old REALLY quick. I hadn't played Gaiden, so the map design was on the same level as awakening, not great, but not terrible. Again, it makes Snipers + Long Bow = OP.
Her C & especially B supports with Silque paint her in a REALLY bad light (although the A support is a bit redeeming). Also at one point, when Alm and Celica have an argument, Faye sees this as an opportunity to try and slyly convince Alm to let Celica go and be with her instead, which to me comes off as pretty dickish, especially considering Alm clearly still cares deeply for Celica. And her epilogue... just read it and you may see why people hate her so much. Me however, I pity her more than I hate her. I feel like she deserved FAR better writing.
The maps don't bother this game though. Why? Because it is incredibly role based. You're not using one unit over and over again because Archers eliminate the spellcasters that would destroy cavaliers and knights, mages counter most terrains and units with bad res as well as other mages due to their high res, and you clear the ranged guarding the castle entrance as units like Alm/Celica, the DFs, and the knights/cavaliers storm the castle and kill the units that would otherwise oneshot your mage/archers. The formation based strategy only works in these open fields. Can you even imagine Echoes gameplay mixed with labyrinthine overrated Conquest map designs? I don't think so. Archers would literally be the ONLY unit you use. You get it now?
I'm not as bothered with the map design (I've played Gaiden, I've gotten over it), but I really wish they didn't use the repeats, that was disappointing.
monkeylemur Eh, you might wanna take that statement of not one-manning maps. I’ve seen people do it before (that said, I would get my backside handed to me if I tried)
monkeylemur Not using the same unit over and over again? Alm's route is totally trivialised by Double Lion+Rescue, Bow Knight Tobin and Delthea, and Celica's route was just Valbar and Invoke soliders taking all the hits while Mae killed everything. Seriously the rest of the units were glorified moral support
I'd personally give them 9/10 and 7/10 respectively. Alm's route is definitely the more engaging and exciting route. Plus you know, no F*CKIN' SWAMP MAPS!
WOAH!!! Faye is honestly not that bad. Also here comes the SALT Otherwise, keep up the good work Edit: 17 minutes in and I can take this "Worse than Awakening and Conquest" Woah, is this IGN?
Cr0Nix SaV3s her only character is how she's Alms best friend who never gets live back. She's designed around it, far better than others. Not great, but hella not awful
That Guy I agree. Faye is, to me, a comedy relief character for her obsession to Alm, as she tries so hard to steal Alm's heart but the audience knows that it'll never happen.
I wish they hadn't been _that_ faithful to Gaiden. I like both games but redoing map designs, adding new objectives, including the weapon triangle and adding more new characters and classes could have made it one of the best in the series. Also Berserker!Atlas would have been fucking ripped just saying.
Sometimes it feels like some only like SoV because it's not Fates and Awakening. Down play the flaws of it has while overblowing the flaws of Fates and Awakening. I do find it annoying that some treat it like God's gift
I agree with you. I find people can be so harsh on Fates and Awakening that it becomes hard to believe. While I agree with the gripes people have, it gets to a point where its almost petty, they happened, move on. I've seen people be fine with things like the supports having minimal depth, or faye being obsessed with Alm, when these exact criticisms were blown to make Awakening and Fates sound like the coming of the Anti-Christ. Again, there are issues I agree with, but the vehemency they go to is, in my opinion, disproportionate to the problem itself.
The things they always complain about with awakening and fates is,bad story,waifus/fan service, bland main characters, and boring gameplay. Waifus aren't even a big part of the games, you can go through fates, and awakening for the most part without getting a single s support.
People try to look like fe-veteran badasses so they hate on Awakening and Fates. That being said, Gray is better written than the entire cast of Awakening and All three paths of Fates.
Sorry, but I think Echoes is better than Awakening and Conquest. While Awakening and Conquest were great games, I enjoyed Echoes a lot more than them. Edit: Birthright was so boring and easy I stopped playing and didn't finish. I don't think Revelations is as good as Conquest or Awakening, but at least it's better than Birthright.
+The Nonary Gamer For me it was the complete opposite tbh :l I enjoyed both Awakening and Conquest(In truth even Relevation) more then Echoes.. and they still have more replay value to me then Echoes :l
The Nonary Gamer You may have enjoyed it more than awakening and conquest, but was it a better game? To be honest, I don't know. I think Birthright is for sure worse, Revelations is my favorite (not favorite FE game, favorite fates.) so I'm biased in that department. Conquest it comes down to your opinion. I'm a huge difficulty seeker so I loved conquest, but some of the bullsh*t they pulled sucked (Chapter 10, Chapter 10, Chapter10), but I enjoyed the characters and story enough to love it. The main debate is a gameplay vs. story perspective. Note: The first time I played Conquest was on Hard/Classic (because I'm a dumbass.).
now I'm curious how you would improve this games story. I to think it works well, but there are certain parts that fell a bit contrived. I'll put it on my wish list for future videos.
Personally I disagree with all your negatives but the map design. But I even though the maps are crap, aspects like arts, no weapon triangle or pair up, and the fact you have way more maps really makes it up for me
Fire emblem Echoes was very unique and amazing. Though like all games, it has some flaws. Unlike most people I didn't really have a problem the maps, no weapon triangle, dungeons, or the story. ( Though I admit sometimes it felt rushed especially in Celica's path) It was mostly about some characters and the lack of support conversations. There was some characters like the Ram villagers that should've been able to talk to each other since they are childhood friends. And then some characters were kind of dull and/or boring like Faye and Silque. You could only really know them when talking to them as Alm or Celica, but even then, you don't get too much out of them.
Very interesting points. While I actually 100% agree with you on the positives and negatives about the game, for me the game was overall amazing to me. I can fully admit that Echoes has boring/frustrating map design, is very repetitive in dungeons, and has a few questionable moments in the story, but... I guess it didn't bother me as much? Maybe I was personally just longing for an FE game that was more simplistic, quite unlike Fates Conquest/Revelations. An FE game with a huge focus on well-written characters, nations that aren't just "good" or "evil", and some amazing villains to fight. It gave me exactly what I personally wanted, plus some things I never even knew I wanted (Mila's Turnwheel, combat Arts, etc.) I can legitimately say that it's actually my new favorite FE game because of this, despite the negative things it has. But hey, you're also the one who said Revelations had GOOD map design, and that actually was my LEAST favorite FE game, so yeah. Great video as always! Looking forward to more!
I agree with pretty much everything u said. I believe u were a little harsh on the support conversations but whatever. I’d say my ranking of the 3ds games for me are BR
4:41 "Rng in this game isn't great" is a freakin understatement, its HORRIBLE! in my personal opinion it somehow even worse then binding blade and fates rng combined. Which drove me nut during my playthrough
I'm currently trying out Echoes again now that I have the DLC to make grinding easier. First try at the game, I couldn't get past Berkut and Rinoa in chapter 5 whatsoever. I do have a question, though. I just recently got "Awakening", and I'm trying to play through it as well. Any tips for "Awakening" for someone who's previous Fire Emblem experiences were borrowing "Shadow Dragon" for a day and buying "Birthright" (with both other paths as DLC)? Any tips would be helpful.
It's kind of funny that you'd call Awakening better than Echoes when a lot of the problems you had with Echoes, Awakening has them too. Boring maps? All of Valm and the endgame maps check off this box pretty well. Steamrolling with one character? Gee that's like Awakening's defining feature. Only Route and Defeat the boss missions? Yeah, I love all of Awakening's use of unique map objectives like route and defeat the boss. Now I don't disagree that Echoes has poor level design. It's pretty bad. But I also want to point out that level design isn't just about the maps. Take the two swamp maps in Celica Act four. They play differently because of the enemy and player layout. Echoes is still not that great with mixing the same maps up because lol gaiden. And if Echoes maps feel samey(which they do) then so do Awakenings. Since all the maps there are either bum rush the boss or shit in the middle and wait until all the enemies suicide to you. I'd probably say that their either equal or Echoes takes it by a very slight margin.
BLAZINGKNIGHT Curious to know what aspects put it above for you. For me I think echoes is better because it has more care to the lore established. Hell it even has to expand on the stuff that Awakening brought in but failed ro explain (why Mila is a tree in the middle of Rigel, Grima and the risen). I also think a lot more passion was put into the game. Now, I know IS thought that Awakening could be their last fe game and certainly there was plenty of passion in that game but it does feel like it dies out in the middle and end of the game. Especially since Echoes knows what it wants to do and is dead set on doing it (being a true Gaiden remake even though that's not the best idea). Awakening was more of a mash on a bunch of mechanics on past fe games that made it feel flat.
What puts Awakening above echoes for is 1) I think the cast is superior even though Echoes has a wonderful bunch of characters, 2) Awakening has a better soundtrack, 3) while Awakenings maps are overall bad map design, there are a few like renewal and smoldering resistance which I really like, 4) I like a lot the mechanics awakening introduce like pair and thew support system even though they are flawed, 5) Awakening is tons of fun to play on repeat for me, which is not the case with echoes, though at the end of the day there both fantastic games.
Opinions, okay, but I like to hear why you think, Simmie, that "Caricatural" is worse than "Bland"? Because Yeah, Awakening is caricatural but most of Echoes is BLAND! Or Give me some Characters who aren't? Without saying Berkut of course, who's one of the best (or more accurate, one of the least bad) of that game?
I like awakening and fates but echoes is so good. i enjoyed it way more then fates. Alm and Celica are some of my fav lords in the series. its gameplay is a little clunky but the story and presentation make up for that. the villains are extremely better then fates. echoes is on my top 5 fe games.
I think there is nothing wrong with the gameplay. It doesn't try to be more than what it is, and the lack of some newer features make for new kinds of tactics and strategies to be born.
Bless you for calling out Faye for what she is, jesus christ. You could literally take her out of the plot and it would not effect a single goddamn thing. I do admit I hope they stay faithful to the characters if they remake Genealogy, but they just. Find that nice, happy medium between good supports, reworked chapters, and just how the game plays out. The only character I hope they don't change too much for personal reasons is Deirdre...she's my girl, dammit. Back on topic of the video, though, this is a very good video. I'm still slogging through act 3 at the moment because everything's honestly really goddamn tedious. I think my favorite of the teams so far are Lukas on Alm's side (because he's the only one in the deliverance with any chill, I'm finding), and surprisingly, Mae on Celica's side (I kind of hate her armor design, but her personality is actually really light tbh? I like it). I look forward to seeing who makes your top 10, Blaze!
Okay, echoes is the third main fire emblem game I've been able to play, so I haven't played most of them but thanks to blaze and others I know a lot about them (thanks man you really helped my interest in the series.) I will agree with what you said the negatives are to an extent. Level design sucked, especially alm's path and the thabes labyrinth, fuck the 8th and 9th floor, and supports were meh, but story I be it rushed was still pretty good. Oh and involving Faye, still one of the worst no doubt but I just can't hate her for some reason, not sure why. Hell most the characters were better than most the characters in fates, gonna be hunted for that, with fates I just couldn't enjoy most of the characters besides the royals and azura. But really, I mostly enjoyed my time with echoes, like you said blaze it's not the best or worst, right in the middle of what I've seen of the series, just hope FE switch takes the good stuff from all the recent games and keeps the worst out.
What’s weird is I actually loved the gameplay, replaying it 3 times in a row within a week lmao. The characters and voice acting are what make it entertaining for me. The battles show their personality and I love the dialogue in battle Also Berkut is one of my favorite villains after Lyon. I don’t even consider Awakening in the general ballpark of how good it was
Boi the music in this game makes me cry it's so good! Sure the game did have it's flaws but the soundtrack was GORGEOUS and I don't remember there being a single track I disliked. Which was refreshing since I only liked about 2 songs total in Fates that stood out to me as being really good. Echoes' music gave me chills it was so good.
Thank you for reviewing this game in an unbiased fashion. I'm tired of people treating this game like the next messiah. Yes, its good, but its not 100% perfect.
Blazing Knight what microphone do you use and what other things do you use because I have a blue yeti microphone and I use audacity and for some reason my voice sounds like a record of a video.
So BlazingKnight what are your opinions on the fact that Fire Emblem Warriors will only focus on characters from Awakening, Fates, and Mystery? Do like the idea? or is this a bad sigh? Will DLC be our saving grace to this game?
I completely agree with pretty much everything you said. Nice to see an FE youtuber that doesn't praise Echoes just because "Fates sucks". By the way, there are bad FE games. They're called FE1 to FE5 (in my opinion). 17:55 An FE6 remake would be cool, but you know what would be amazing? If they combined FE7 and FE6 into one epic game! I really hope they do this instead of just dedicating one game to Roy's story. I want to know what happened to Lyn and others so bad!
Boi no one is gonna take you seriously if you think GENEAOLOGY is a bad game! It is amazing! Also, you come off as a bit hypocritical. "Everyone should stop calling Fates a bad game, but I'm allowed to call FE 1-5 bad games".
FE4 might have been good when it came out, and I appreciate for everything it did for the series (skills, weapon triangle, marriage, etc.), but it didn't age well at all, and it's got way too many issues, mostly balance issues to be called a ¨good game". Like you may have seen in my conversation with Zerk in this comment section, having a nice story doesn't excuse the bad gameplay. I'll be honest, I haven't played FE1, FE2 (though I have seen playthroughs and... yeah, those games suck), FE3 and FE5.Admittedly, I just applied inductive reasoning because I've heard people say FE4 is the best game in the series and it sucks ass, and if THAT is supposed to be magnum opus of the FE's creator, then I assumed that the first 5 FE games sucks. Someday I'll play FE3 and FE5 to see if my assumption was true though (no, I won't play FE1 and FE2 cause I already watched gameplay of them and I know they suck). How is that hypocritical? Though Fates's story sucks, it is indeed a great GAME. You really need to start separating your weird resentment against fan service and your hate for Fates's story from the actual gameplay itself, you know. I understand why you hate them, but that's no reason to hate on its gameplay just because of that, especially when they do not affect it.
+SSBBFalco But I DON'T like the gameplay. Birthright is pathetically easy and boring as hell, Revelations has extremely bad map gimmicks, and only Conquest is alright, I guess. Plus, I hate the pair-up system and the removal of the old support system. And you are telling ME to stop hating on Fates, while you think it is perfectly okay to hate on Geneaology. Here's a tip; I don't like Geneaology just for its story. I like it for its huge, sprawling maps with long chapters with many events going inside of them. I like it for its great gameplay, despite its age. And meanwhile, YOU judge games YOU HAVEN'T EVEN PLAYED! I stand by my point that Fates sucks on ALL fronts, except for Conquest's gameplay.
Just so you know, I never said that Fates was perfect. As you said, Birthright's map design is dull and easy, though not as bad as Echoes's. Revelation... Now, those maps are kind of subjective, cause they're indeed gimmicky, but that doesn't mean they're bad. I personally don't like the gimmicks, but most (keyword: MOST) of them are well designed. It's ok that you don't like the pair up system, but calling it bad? Yeah, no. The pair up system, whether you like it or not is not bad design at all. Yeeeah, you literally hating on a game because they removed the freaking support system you like sounds like a really personal reason, a dumb one at that if you're specifically talking about just the conversations because they don't affect the game. I never, EVER said you should stop hating on Fates. Anyone can hate on Fates or any other game, and that's not any of my fucking business,. But there's a big difference between hating on a game because you don't like, which is fine, and hating on a game and saying it downright sucks even though it's well designed. The latter one is ignoring facts and it just makes you sound like an entitled little bitch. I call FE4 a bad game, which it is, because of its immense design issues. Me hating it or loving it because of that, is a personal thing, and that is respectable. I LOVE playing Smash Bros. Brawl competitively, but I just can't ignore the facts and say "oh, it's a great competitive game" cause it isn't! What makes a fighting game great competitively is its balance, and Brawl has way too many unbalanced bullshit to call it a good competitive game! Yeah, my bad, I shouldn't have said that since I haven't personally played all of those games. However, I don't think I'm wrong. I know for a fact that 3 out of 5 of those games are badly designed, so what I claimed doesn't sound that far fetched. But until I play those game, then yeah, I shouldn't just say they're bad.
I played Gaiden in preparation for Echoes, and I loved every minute of that that game. While the maps aren't well designed I thought they were a lot of fun so I automatically enjoyed the maps in Echoes (even more so since they were in HD). What I was anticipating the most in Echoes was the story. The stories in old NES aren't much but there's a lot of thought put into them and Gaiden is no exception. Most of the themes in Echoes are present in Gaiden. They just need to be expended upon. I had no idea what to expect but my expectations were very high. The game went far beyond those expectations within the first few minutes after starting the game. The part that I wanted to be expanded upon the most was act 5 and more importantly the final boss. I loved the themes that result in you killing the final boss (remaining spoiler free). I give this game 10 out of 10. My favorite in the series. Sorry New Mystery of the Emblem.
Just FYI, you could have used warp in that level where you were mentioning only being able to safely retaliate with one unit. at 8:56. I warped barons/dread fighteres in and killed the bow knights.
(*WARNING* - This rant is solely about the level design. I got nothing to say about everything else except they are amazing.) The removal of the weapon triangle bummed me out. Now it's just Archers beat Mages, Mages beat everything else, and other units beat other units. It takes a lot of the strategical fun. The experience of being rewarded by using the weapon triangle to your advantage is entirely gone. This shares the same trait with the pair up and bonus damage systems. You're not being rewarded for being smart because you're given nothing to be "smart". Some maps are also boringly designed for you to choke a point, which also makes the gameplay boring while you wait until it ends. Along with that, terrain is seemingly placed randomly across the map. When you question, "Why is there a tree here?" and "If I replace it with plains, how would that change gameplay or aesthetics?", you can see how bad the design is. Take the pillars in the Conquest chapter 27 (right before endgame). They have a purpose! You can retreat from the rooms and get defensive bonuses to have an advantage. It slows enemies so that it takes a while to go in and out of rooms, making it so you are given time before the enemy overwhelms you, and making it so that you can't just escape the room and be done with it. This applies to not only terrain, but also enemy placement and enemy skills (the latter being non-existent). The (lack of) classes is also limited, so all you will have is units playing the same exact roles. BORING. Even Birthright had this! You have enough classes to build a diverse team. It's just mage, archer, and one-range units. Echoes also has no variety in their maps. Rout the enemy all the time. No gimmicks were added. The maps become absolutely uninteresting. There are some good maps, but I cannot stand the overuse of Cantors and movement-restricting terrain. In all, I can't believe that Echoes would have THAT awful level design. I mean, IS should know by now that Gaiden had outdated map design and that the standards were Conquest-level. A lot of people thought it would be at least comparable to Conquest's beautiful design. Fish out of water because it fell face flat because IS couldn't be bothered to make interesting maps instead of recycling outdated af maps.
I like that they brought the weight equation back. I've had more times where I messed up in Echoes, due to missing something, (unknowingly put Alm in range of Nuibaba's magic... With gargoyles around,) compared to messing up, due to being forced to Exp grind other units a lot, (Awakening, and I heard Fates suffers from the same thing.) I've tried Exp grinding just a little bit in Awakening, but the weight equation being gone, doesn't do that any justice, (and the many supports you could grind in Awakening.) The story mostly got me though, there were a lot more sad moments, and actual humorous moments, instead of someone trying to be humorous, (looking at you, Henry. There were only 3 scenes that hit me in Awakening, and of the three, one of them didn't hit me as hard, as the other two, and of the three, another one simmered down, when I saw there's a chapter where you can recruit her.) Also liked the great terrors, I had to think how to move my units, and who to use against certain ones. The enemies that show up in Awakening look pretty hard, but I won't be able to face them anytime soon, (the enemies stats are maxed out. Won't ever be able to face them, since I stopped playing Awakening.)
I've replayed Echoes three times already letting each play through play out the story. Giving the story a lot of critical thought and seeing if I personally think the story is amazing or way too hyped up. I actually really enjoyed the story despite having its shortcomings. For some reason I actually think the maps are quite fun! Especially the act one zofia's castle map. Characters were great (I like Faye come at me Faye haters) overall I loved the game, but that's because of my own personal opinions on games I can acknowledge that a game has a bad story or bad gameplay. My stance on games is I can care less about reviews if I enjoy I game and have fun playing it it doesn't matter how bad or poorly executed it is. The game is fun but everyone should be more open to other opinions despite how polarizing it is keep an open mind. Not everyone thinks a video game should have an amazing story maybe all they want is kick ass gameplay or both. (TBH that idea is really naive on the internet) If your reading this Blazing knight I just want you to know that I do disagree with some of your opinions but I can see your side of the argument and respect them. Plus I respect you for putting up videos that the fan base gets enraged at (I won't act like I don't either) and still be be willing to post videos after the amount of hate you get. Still though I really like a lot of your content most of your top tens and how to improve the story of fates and SAO. Keep doing what you do! 😊
Thanks very much I'm glad you feel that way. Honestly while with some videos like overrated fire emblem units and worst monster hunter monsters and perfectly and understand all the hate, in this case I don't care how much hate I get from saying things like " I prefer Conquest over Echoes", since at the end of the day, it's just my opinion and I made it clear that I thought echoes was still a superb game. I guarantee if this video was exactly the same but I didn't mention what games I thought were better or worse than echoes, that dislike bar would have been significantly smaller, and even with all the angry comments I received, there were plenty of people that were really happy that I looked at Echoes from and unbiased perspective and really enjoyed this video, and if i'm able to make the majority of people who watch my videos happy, then no amount of hate will detract me from it.
wow i almost completely agree with you their is one other negative and that is the extremely harsh exp system in echoes that when you get to higher levels becomes almost non-existant and make it a chore to enjoy the game in later sections and the dlc shows this flaw even more in the main game. Though otherwise i completely agree with you. I defintiely felt that alms story was way more fleshed out than celica and sometimes it felt like celica acted stupid for the story to progress.
Great Job! You summarized my thoughts exactly. I have honestly found that some fans have been a bit too quick to defend this game just because it's an older entry in the series despite its flaws. I personally would give it an 8/10. I 100% agree with everything you said, keep up the good work.
Not yet I've been very busy atm and haven't had much time to go back to it, also I will be playing Tharcia, but not after FE4, I plan to play FE12 after FE4.
Jesus man... You gotta go back and play your favorite Path of Radiance again. I don't understand how you say you didn't feel super bored with that game with its own share of incredibly dumb pacing issues and bad and trudging map but you blame this game for all the problems that it actually handles well. And don't you dare say the story has pacing issues. Each act deals with an entirely different array of assumptions. It's a very well handled story
Literally no one else, including me, shares your opinion. Path of Radiance is without a doubt one of the best Fire emblem games in all aspects, although I do enjoy the story of Radiant Dawn and Echoes more than PoR, which felt a bit generic.
Face it. The maps are bad. There aren't too many great maps. The good indoor maps get ruined by Cantors. They also ruin some outdoor maps. And boat maps. And dungeon maps. Cantors ruin everything. And then there's wide open fields.
Silent Eagle I actually like most of the maps. With how Echoes is set up most of the problems people have are handled by the game. The spells this game has make the problems seem less prominent. In all honest I couldn't see Fire Emblem Echoes play like a normal FE game nor could I see it having Radiant Dawn style maps. I like most of the maps because they are focused around how the game plays.
I wonder if I'll like this game or not. I heard about how hard it can be and that scares me a bit. I'll still pick it up but what should I look out for compared to other Fire Emblem games?
+Optimistic Otaku it was the first fire emblem game released internationally, and as a result has great nostalgic appeal for many people. the difficulty is also fairly balanced (not too easy, but not too hard either) and many characters range from colorful to realistic in personality
i started with awakening as well, but was convinced to try it after watching a lets play of FE7. in a way i have nostalgic affection towards old and new that way
What you said about Faye being the worst 3DS character, I fully understand why you think this (she is the only weak link in an otherwise outstanding cast), but I have to disagree. I think Corrin is far worse.
He's said that he at least gets something from Peri other than the psychotic murder thing. There's more to her than just killing. With Faye, he gets *nothing* from her besides "I like Alm". I can't explain why he prefers Peri, it's just his opinion.
riddy-pr I can agree that Faye and Corrin are both equally hateful because they have no personality. It just comes down to whether you hate someone with no personality, or you hate someone with no personality and whose existence revolves around one person.
I actually pity Faye, as opposed to hate, although I do still feel like she's the worst character in Echoes by a mile and one of the worst 3DS characters in general. I feel like she deserved FAR better writing than what she actually got. Probably due to how compelling I find her visually. Corrin meanwhile, straight up infuriated me with their "personality" and doesn't have a good enough design to grant pity, so as a result, I just hate them.
6:46 That's one heck of an exaggeration. Tharja abused her own daughter, put a sniffling curse on whoever her husband is, and put a curse on Robin, the one who she's supposedly in love with (her love confession is also a death threat) EDIT: I finished playing this game and I can safely say Faye isn't bad at all. She's not the best, but still not deserving of being called something like that
Overall, for someone who came in at Awakening, as only played Awakening and Fates, but is very interested and open minded about this game, would you recommend to buy this?
I honestly prefer Echoes to Conquest for story reasons. And although I agree with most things you mentioned in the video, I really enjoy the supports in Echoes and think both the supports and characters are one of the best aspects of the game. Love the vids ☺
It was my 2nd FE game after Awakening, and I lived it so much more and actually got invested in the story, but as you've said, I don't have a frame of reference. And now that I've played on house in FE3H, I think my experience as a main character is much better than in 3H. Not the story, but the avatar. I much prefer being an actual character over a self insert. Heck, even tho Awakening isn't great I think Robin ks more of a character than Byleth
This video sums up my thoughts on Echoes perfectly. I liked it, but i always felt kinds iffy. It didin't really give me that feeling Awakening gave me.
rafresenden rafresenden. How people react to scores: 10: "It's a dream come true! I must have it! Instant buy! I can't live without it!" 9: "Pretty interesting! I'll definitely consider getting it." 8: "It's ok I guess. Maybe if I have the time or money, I might get it, but if I don't, then whatever." 7: "Not the worst thing I've seen, but it's pretty lacking. I'll pass." 6: "This just isn't for me. Not buying." 5: "This is a waste of time. Not gonna bother." 4: "This is shit." 3: "This is shit." 2: "This is shit." 1: "This is shit. Kill it with fire." 0: "This is shit. Kill it with fire & get me bleach."
5:24 I have to disagree there. The battle animations aren't flashy at all (save for the Dread Fighter animations) which is the entire reason for having them on. Critical animations don't even look that different from normal animations, which in my eye, is incredibly underwhelming.
I was already turned away by a lot of SoV (I don't like the art design, cinematics or the story) and with the lack of replay value (for me) and old-school design, that doesn't exactly sit promising for me as a purchase. Hearing about the archaic styled maps and combat design, just makes me turn away more. It's a shame because I like a lot of the new stuff too, but it just looks so bland and boring otherwise. I prefer Awakening for it's characters and story, and I prefer Fates for it's design and gameplay. Echoes offers me nothing I want, except a few cool concepts.
There's one map in Echoes that is literally a copy of one from Awakening. It's near the end of Alm's route, and it is a replica from the Paralogue where you get Inigo.
Well, here's the order I put the Fire Emblem games I played from my least favorite to favorite: Shadow Dragon, Sacred Stones, Fates Birthright, Fates Conquest, Fates Revelation, Blazing Sword, Echoes-Shadows of Valentia, Awakening, Radiant Dawn, Path of Radiance.
Man i just love seeing other people who top their with the Tellius games! I don't like picking between them because they are both so amazing, so I just pretend they are one game.
I personally like PoR better than RD. I liked that RD tried to be this overarching multi-part epic journey, but I didn't like that Ike became something like a Deus ex machina. I mean he is supposed to be the HERO of the story and his availabilty sucks, which is a shame because he is my 2nd favourite lord overall. Also the "supports" left a bad taste in my mouth. :/
Lords: 1. Alm 2. Ike 3. Roy and Eliwood (can't decide) 4. Hector 5. Ephraim Allies: 1. Xander (I don't consider him a lord) 2. Nephenee and Kliff (can't decide yet again) 3. Joshua 4. Ilyana 5. Zihark Villains: 1. Berkut 2. Zelgius/Black Knight 3. Lyon 4. Zephiel 5. Nergal Just to mention, there are only 3 characters I don't like: Corrin, Faye, Camilla
My main problem with FEESOV is that it fails it's theme(the way of the sword or the way of the heart ), Alm isn't ever presented as being in the wrong, and Celica gets mad at him because of her own lack of skill to argue and to present her point. Actually now that I think about it there entire Act 2 conversation boils down to: Celica: I'm mad at you! Alm: Why are you mad at me? ( they just got back together and were having a moment!) Celica: I'm mad at you BECAUSE you don't know why i'm mad at you Alm:That doesn't sound fair... Celica: "You...You stubborn JERK!"
Can somebody explain to me why would people defend a game with dull levels and gameplay?I dont know much about fire emblem but I feel this game gets a lot of free passes
El_Wapete play the last couple of FE games then come back although echoes gives us some lackluster map designs it is far superior than the other 3ds games in every other category.
I think it's either the mind set or how one is playing the map. I honestly didn't mind most of these, but I will admit that there are some maps that have aged. The game is basically a terrain war, where you must you need to take advantage of the terrain, with the later maps having the terrain in the enemy's favor, having you work around it. I can see someone not liking the maps if you're trying to compare them to maps in other Fire Emblem games where they usually take up a whole chapter, while the maps in Echoes are more or less skirmishes and usually go by pretty quickly.
No prob. It also doesn't help that the game does gets tough at Part 3 (Part 2 if you decide to fight the Necro Dragon[s]), so that could also cause some frustration as well.
Gianni like what? It has less content overall and it is repetitive as fuck, the turnwheel nullifies the difficulty and you always get frustrated at the end of every map because of the huge amount of enemies that they throw at you. The things that are way better are the story, the design, voiceacting and look of the game.
What did you think of Combat Arts? I think I liked them more than randomly activated skills as it makes things less about chance and more about tactics, but they seemed pretty powerful in this, though maybe that was balanced by limiting each to a specific weapon, thus changing weapon means losing the skill... hmm
yeah.... i probably say i didnt really like playing Echoes when i played through it. The presentation was great, the characters are nice and the story i find passable, but the gamplay just killed it for me. There are quite a lot of issues i take with the overlying gameplay but i probably only tackle the biggest problem, the maps. I'm sorry but I would rather even play revelation than actually play through echoes again. yeah, the gimmicks are annoying but at least some of the gimmicks work like the replication map. Echoes map? i honestly cant even remember a single map from this game. at least rev maps were different and actually memorable. here, they all feel the same with the design of the map feeling like it just there to waste your time. Hey, lets have a desert map where most of the encounters is placed in a fort that has no actual desert with the only desert part is actually getting to the fort. Hey, lets have a map with a single choke-point to make players waste more turns. Hey, lets have cantors just spawn infinite enemies with that enemies being all the same class. They wont need to change strategy but it'll least make them spend more time on the game. just oh god. I started the series from blazing sword and have even played the games that didnt even got localized such as genealogy, thracia, and sword of seals. but this is one of the rare occurrences that i didn't thought i wasn't going to beat the game. not because it was too hard, but because it was just so goddamn boring. The only other time was playing through shadow dragon. This isnt my least favorite game, that still be shadow dragon but dang if this game isnt just right behind shadow dragon. I'm glad people were able to enjoy echoes more than i did but it ultimately didn't do anything for me. and honestly, if i see the map design of echoes in the next mainline fire emblem games as well as some of its mechanics(like freaking dungeon crawling and the encounter design in the dungeons), then intelligent system just lost me as a fan who actually buy every game in the series whenever they release a game. so yeah, not a fan of this game XD
I found that level with the encantor on the boat to be one of my favorites. You need to rush and because it's still early that is dangerous. My favorite though is the desert level just after you get the pegasi. The duel nature of pegasi skirmishing and central fighting really is neat. I liked Echoes for how different map types make you play it very differently. You need to do a probing offensive on a fortress, or a dynamic attack/retreat on open maps or a position battle on forest. Or a careful formation in the swamp, defend the castle on the graveyard. The maps of Echoes are the way they are for a reason. Echoes plays more like a strategic turn based strategy so the maps are more open with more broad features to accommodate that.
Echoes was the first Fire Emblem game I ever played. So I literally went in with zero expectations and I’m glad I did. Having now played all the 3DS titles, it’s still my favourite by far. It’s gorgeous visually and the music was excellent (in my opinion). It’s got a super fun cast that I really connected to! Because I was a newbie I found the gameplay pretty fun, but totally agree about the maps! As a newbie having “boring” maps helpful initially. But now I’m more experience I can see how frustrating it would get. I LOVE the lack of avatar and waifus/husbandos! It makes it feel more like an adventure story rather than a self insert fantasy. I’m probably biased as it was my first but I love it despite its faults 💔 Fates in particular was a real disappointment to me, especially Conquest which had excellent maps but an awful story :(
+Darth R0xad Haha, I knew someone would comment that. Go to the time marker in my comment and look at the way the BLAZINGKNIGHT spelled Gaiden. There's a reason I put that time marker there lol.
One problem I have with echoes is on the final battle I think that if Alm/Celica dies and one survives to the next turn you should be able to choose turnwheel or give up allowing you to not have to constantly replay if Alm gets killed while you are trying to defeat Duma This is just my nitpicking and I'm probably overreacting but... I still think it should be a thing Also... Yes Faye's character sucks (seriously people it's Cordelia but she can't move on properly) but she makes an excellent tank as a cleric.
alright, thanks for not bullshitting. I honestly had no idea it was a remake -- my intro to FE was Conquest. Knowing that support conversations are in-game, I guess I should focus on using them. I think my problem with the soundtrack is it's usually the same combat track. Going to have another go at this game because I enjoyed a 3 Houses and Conquest speedrun the other day. But really, I'm out here playing Echoes because my ex lost my Conquest card and bought me Echoes as an apology.
+Poinmagic 1 Then you will be surprised at how wrong you are tho :3 I started with Awakening/Fates and im always open for the older games.. And for a single playthrough I enjoyed Echoes I give the game that.. but other then that single playthrough I probably wont touch it anymore
is it normal in fire emblem for bosses to only be hurt by one unit? I am legit curious because you can only kill duma with alm/celica and both duma and jedah can stop you for attacking. Is this normal
Not exactly, normal fire emblem bosses can be hurt by pretty much anyone, however final bosses tend to have some form of divine protection or something that prevents standard weapons from hurting them, so you must usually legendary ones to inflict any form of damage which the lords will always have access to, however in some games like binding blade other units can use them too, so it varies.
my personal opinion of echeos is act 4 is realy annoying i even took a 1week break ( mainly because i got my switch and disgaea 5). my main probleme is teh danm Cantors CAN YOU STOP SUMMONING 1 MILLION MONSTERS STOP MAKING THE BATTLE TAKE LONGER!!... sorry i had to let it out of my chest
Baka1fred I'm tired of people overreacting over Cantors. They aren't even that hard to deal with. The only map that they truly were a problem for me was that swamp one where he kept summoning Gargoyles.
Alm: *breathes*
Berkut: AGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
UNNNCCCCLLLLEEEEEEE
I mean yeah
honestly tho
*MAH RIGHTFUL THRONE THO, UUUUUUNCLE*
positive: It was faithful
negative: It was faithful
That's what I got from playing though Echoes and watching Ghast play through of Gaiden.
Optimistic Otaku he's enjoying Echoes a lot. But can't say until he's completed Echoes. he's currently on Act.III recently getting past Nuibaba
That is Act 4
He recently posted on Twitter that it has become his favorite game.

It's not that the RNG isn't great, it's that it's accurate for once. The first 6 (maybe 5), FE games used single RNG, and so does Echoes. Sure, you hit less, but it's actually displaying the proper number
Darth R0xas FE 1-6 and 15 used single RNG, 7-13 used true hit/double RNG and Fates used some hybrid RNG (True hit above 50%, single RNG below 50%).
Air tempest Thanks
Air tempest actually true hit started in 6 but to contemplate the weapon hit rate was lowered quite a bit
I'd wager we won't see Hybrid RNG after Fates'... 'Unique' RNG.
Darth R0xas (enemy lands two consecutive 1% crits as you miss a 98%)
14:32 "these characters personality and backstory have already been established"
have you even played Gaiden? or at least talked to someone who has?
Gaiden barely has any dialogue whatsoever. once you've recruited a character they'll never say anything ever again. well except for their death quote. and even before you recruit them they don't say much. that exchange between Luthier and Delthea that you get when you recruit Delthea was not in Gaiden. the only thing that conversation amounted to was Delthea saying thanks then joining.
Fidens Libertas this makes the obvious subtraction of personality from female characters all the more painful to see
What subtraction? They added things more than anything. Only questionable ones are Celica and definitely Faye.
"This world belongs to Alm" lol Faye is the thirstiest FE character I've ever seen
I heard a Let's Player named Bigklingy speculate that an FE game that combines Echoes' storytelling with Fates' game-play could potentially make for one of the best games in the series.
101 dislikes?
This video HAS to be good!
Mangs You were not wrong

I feel like Faye is the creators' personal commentary about that section of the fanbase obsessed with self inserting their avatar with their preferred character. She's a warning to impressionable young shippers about the dangers of going extreme with self inserting and fantasizing. Faye's unlikable because she's meant to be someone you don't want to become. That's my interpretation of her, but even so I still find her annoying and don't think it's a good enough reason to make me like her.
presea c I am pretty sure that not it . more than likely she suppose to feel the Catria role better since Clare moves on with her live.
It's not that deep.
Cuckmaster Flex deeper than all the females in awakening and fates tho 👀
keldeothehorse
Is she though?
At least most of the female characters have more than one character trait and motivation. That’s already a step up above anything Faye ever gets.
Best written and translated game in the series. WELL worth it!
Professor Who not really gameplay is where it at
kevin and the gameplay is great
The gameplay made the game a bit boring for me tbh.
Edgar Garcia decent would be a 6, 7.8 is more or less a good to great rating
Edgar Garcia 7.8/10 is a good score I just think people didn't like the reasons Ign gave also it's a new game and hype makes people ignore flaws and think everything's 10/10.
The way I see it is this:
6.0 to 6.9 is an alright game
7.0 to 7.9 is an good game
8.0 to 8.9 is an great game
9.0 to 9.9 is an outstanding game
10 is an perfect or at least nearly perfect game
Yeah. People always complain FE6's RNG but, I never had a problem.
I'm not exactly sure if Fates' RN system is confirmed to be true hit or not. Regardless, the misconception that some RNGs are worse than others is probably due to varying definitions of "RNG." I don't think a lot of people talk about the system itself but rather their personal experience with the game.
Ziggy McDougal That's true. Also, Fates RNG is a stupid mix of both, which makes no sense and is worse than 1RN because of how random it can be
Ziggy McDougal That's true. Also, Fates RNG is a stupid mix of both, which makes no sense and is worse than 1RN because of how random it can be
Finn I haven't played 1 through 5 but 6 can be a bitch with RNG in my experience playing it
Fates really wore thin on me.
Pandinus no especially soundtrack
Unlike Fates, Echoes is actually enjoyable.
Awakening is a good game but Fates is by far the worst fire emblem game out there. Awakening saved the franchise while fates killed it again and Echoes saved it once again
You can’t even get all units in Shadow Dragon. Hell if you want some good ones, you gotta sacrifice some of your own units to get them. It’s bullshit.
I love your criticisms agaist Echoes. You talked about every complaint I hesitated to express in my video.
I love the story and rejoice the villain issues finnally solved in this game, but I couldn't stand for the lack of replayability and map design and other stuffs.😢
I know Fates has one of the worst story-telling but the gameplay is very very fun.😙
I hope Intelligent Systems will create a new game having good things of both Exhoes and Fates😊
3 emoji's? 3 more reasons to kill my self
echoes' smaller cast definitely made me like it the most from all the fire emblem games ive played. as a player who refuses to let units die (while playing on classic which can be frustrating haha), very large casts usually just leads to fewer characters focused on, fleshed out, and remembered (read: fire emblem fates)
Bonus fact the voice actor for berkut is the same as space dandy
Zero time for fun :O
And Whis from DBS
*Killer bow
Stop beating up on Faye! The game already did an excellent job of absolutely shitting on her.
#FayeDidNothingWrong
#TravantDidNothingWrong tho
#FayeDidNothing would be a more Accurate Hashtag actually.
kirua258 I'm not taking sides here but that was hilarious!
#Alvisdidnothingwrong
THANK YU
Why do people hate Faye so much? I find her fine. Bland but not that bad. She kind of reminds me of Amy Rose to be honest.
I feel like she deserved FAR better writing.
riddy-pr
I don't think the way she was going about it was sly at all. I thought she was bashing him over the head with "WHY WON'T YOU LOVE ME?!"
Master Tactician G-CON
Dude no!
Don't attract the sonic fanbase here!
This fanbase is crazy enough.
Fyrfly Yes, but to be fair....the Fire Emblem fan base isn't much better....
Thank you. I knew I couldn't be the only one.
monkeylemur I'd much rather have an open field where I can maneuver troops than hallway/bridge simulators.
monkeylemur
Eh, you might wanna take that statement of not one-manning maps.
Honestly, I'd give Alm's route an 8.5/10 and Celica's route a 6.5/10 if I were to rate them separately.
I'd personally give them 9/10 and 7/10 respectively. Alm's route is definitely the more engaging and exciting route. Plus you know, no F*CKIN' SWAMP MAPS!
stoizz Cancer>cantors. thats right, I'd rather have cancer than cantors.
stoizz in my opinion the alm's route is an 8.5/10, and the celica's route 10/10 because valbar
How the fuck do you people shit out your ratings? Based on WHAT?
Alm ´s route is the best FE game. Celica´s route.... They love to cut the fun uh-
French final coming up
Blazing uploads
Whelp, I might fail tomorrow
I got 96%, va bien!
Bonne chance, tu vas en avoir besoin.
No like seriously m8 you're screwed
Shit, you outdid me.
WOAH!!!
Faye is honestly not that bad.
Also here comes the SALT
Otherwise, keep up the good work
Edit: 17 minutes in and I can take this
"Worse than Awakening and Conquest"
Woah, is this IGN?
That Guy she isn't really that bad, if she wasn't obsessed over Alm, she would be great
Cr0Nix SaV3s her only character is how she's Alms best friend who never gets live back. She's designed around it, far better than others. Not great, but hella not awful
That Guy u right, but could she not refer to him at least a hundred times during battle
Cr0Nix SaV3s have you not seen Camilla or tharja
They're FAR more obsessed, and only the former is a decent character
That Guy I agree. Faye is, to me, a comedy relief character for her obsession to Alm, as she tries so hard to steal Alm's heart but the audience knows that it'll never happen.
hey what is your opinion of the development of Metroid Prime 4 for Nintendo Switch?
fkamui corrin One word: hype
MrToonlink53 same thing can be said with for any fire emblem game
People try to look like fe-veteran badasses so they hate on Awakening and Fates. That being said, Gray is better written than the entire cast of Awakening and All three paths of Fates.
+Liezuli Id Argue Maribelle or Libra are better Written And more complex than Gray Can Hope to be.
Not every character is Kellam
Sorry, but I think Echoes is better than Awakening and Conquest. While Awakening and Conquest were great games, I enjoyed Echoes a lot more than them.
Edit: Birthright was so boring and easy I stopped playing and didn't finish. I don't think Revelations is as good as Conquest or Awakening, but at least it's better than Birthright.
Me too. Echoes, in my opinion, blows them out of the water so goddamn hard.
The Nonary Gamer I thought Birth and Rev were way more fun than Conquest.
Ryogo Kaburaki Birthright is better than Conquest if you ask me. Revelations is fine.
now I'm curious how you would improve this games story. I to think it works well, but there are certain parts that fell a bit contrived. I'll put it on my wish list for future videos.
Jack Ferring my main problem with the story was celica acting almost as dumb as corrin at a lot of points
Personally I disagree with all your negatives but the map design. But I
even though the maps are crap, aspects like arts, no weapon triangle or pair up, and the fact you have way more maps really makes it up for me
Fire emblem Echoes was very unique and amazing.
It gave me exactly what I personally wanted, plus some things I never even knew I wanted (Mila's Turnwheel, combat Arts, etc.)
I can legitimately say that it's actually my new favorite FE game because of this, despite the negative things it has.
8/10.
If the fused this game's handling of Story and Characters and Conquest's Gameplay, it would be perfect.
Not really. The mechanics of this game are suited to a linear style and set up
Lord Tullus 9 [Puffy Sprinkles] In like a new FE game, I mean.
I really liked that archers actually had proper range, 1 space away is ridiculous.
Yes they both have flaws in regards to map design, but Awakening has other aspects that put it above echoes in my opinion.
"I think the cast is superior"
- no
Opinions, okay, but I like to hear why you think, Simmie, that "Caricatural" is worse than "Bland"? Because Yeah, Awakening is caricatural but most of Echoes is BLAND! Or Give me some Characters who aren't? Without saying Berkut of course, who's one of the best (or more accurate, one of the least bad) of that game?
Can we get a list where you rank every fire emblem game in order? I'd like to know your opinion
The battles show their personality and I love the dialogue in battle
Also Berkut is one of my favorite villains after Lyon.
My fav FE soundtrack
1:35 Lacking waifus?! Did people expect Camilla again?! Most of the girls in Echoes are adorable!
Thank you for reviewing this game in an unbiased fashion. I'm tired of people treating this game like the next messiah. Yes, its good, but its not 100% perfect.
I give it an 8.4
Folsi Choi with any fire emblem tbh
I mean, nothing's perfect, but it is a hell of a lot closer to perfect than fates
Lord Raymond Not really. Echoes only ranges from good to average really.
Not to mention that Fates definitely more fun to play
Blazing Knight what microphone do you use and what other things do you use because I have a blue yeti microphone and I use audacity and for some reason my voice sounds like a record of a video.
Echoes is still my favorite FE by far. I've never had this much fun playing FE before. People might say it's "hype" but I seriously LOVE this game!
So BlazingKnight what are your opinions on the fact that Fire Emblem Warriors will only focus on characters from Awakening, Fates, and Mystery? Do like the idea? or is this a bad sigh? Will DLC be our saving grace to this game?
There's a video on MACHP's channel were I give my thoughts regarding your question.
Cool I'll go check it out
I completely agree with pretty much everything you said.
FE Elitist spotted.
I'm also disappointed that Faye, who has the best character design in Echoes (my opinion) has a shit personality
she is?
Cr0Nix SaV3s She's like a more annoying Camilla and Tharja, except cheerful and less Yandere
Crappy DragonKin Marth Best design? what about Celica or Zeke or Berkut they are better IMO
Yeah, at least Tharja and Camilla had something to their characters outside of their fixation on the Avatar.
Gianni Well, I think she looked adorable
Just FYI, you could have used warp in that level where you were mentioning only being able to safely retaliate with one unit. at 8:56. I warped barons/dread fighteres in and killed the bow knights.
(*WARNING* - This rant is solely about the level design. I got nothing to say about everything else except they are amazing.)
The removal of the weapon triangle bummed me out.
(TBH that idea is really naive on the internet)
If your reading this Blazing knight I just want you to know that I do disagree with some of your opinions but I can see your side of the argument and respect them.
I would be down so hard on a Genealogy remake. I want my beautiful, fully animated Sigurd X Deidre marriage ceremony, dammit!
just remember you would also get a full cinematic of the battle of barhara
Don't you mean the correct name of the main characters, Siglud? I think people wouldn't like that if the translated name of him was that
I've used it for so long I've become accustomed to it.
Please no.
Picked this up some time ago, but haven't played it yet because I've never really played any FE games. Should this be my first?
It's not a bad place to start since it's so unique that just about any game you try afterwards will be a majorly different experience.
Great Job! You summarized my thoughts exactly. I have honestly found that some fans have been a bit too quick to defend this game just because it's an older entry in the series despite its flaws. I personally would give it an 8/10. I 100% agree with everything you said, keep up the good work.
Awesome thoughts! Have you beaten Genealogy of the War and also, would you play Thracia 776 after?? FE5 is an underrated gem
It's a very well handled story
monkeylemur I like POR it's in my top 5 but you are so right with the maps those maps are so long and can be boring after a while
Literally no one else, including me, shares your opinion. Path of Radiance is without a doubt one of the best Fire emblem games in all aspects, although I do enjoy the story of Radiant Dawn and Echoes more than PoR, which felt a bit generic.
chapter 17 is the worst thing to ever happen to a video game period more or less :p
I'm so happy that someone shares my EXACT thoughts. I was so tired of people heralding Echoes as god's gift to Fire Emblem
mooseyluke it's not the best of all time (For me that's 7) but it's certainly better than some more recent installments
+Optimistic Otaku it was the first fire emblem game released internationally, and as a result has great nostalgic appeal for many people. the difficulty is also fairly balanced (not too easy, but not too hard either) and many characters range from colorful to realistic in personality
very mad guy I started with Awakening (like most new fans these days) but have gone back to play the older ones. 7 is phenomenal
i started with awakening as well, but was convinced to try it after watching a lets play of FE7. in a way i have nostalgic affection towards old and new that way
and then people pull the nostalgia card which doesn't fix a game's problems. kinda like genwunners
Hi I just started playing the GBA fire emblem because of your channel, and until know I'm loving it (even Lyn's story )
That's great to hear i'm very glad you're enjoying it! =D
What you said about Faye being the worst 3DS character, I fully understand why you think this (she is the only weak link in an otherwise outstanding cast), but I have to disagree. I think Corrin is far worse.
As much as I hate Faye, Peri still exists. That means he thinks Faye is worse than a literal psychopathic murderer.
He's said that he at least gets something from Peri other than the psychotic murder thing. There's more to her than just killing. With Faye, he gets *nothing* from her besides "I like Alm".
I can't explain why he prefers Peri, it's just his opinion.
Corrin was a bigger mistake.
riddy-pr
I can agree that Faye and Corrin are both equally hateful because they have no personality.
Tharja abused her own daughter, put a sniffling curse on whoever her husband is, and put a curse on Robin, the one who she's supposedly in love with (her love confession is also a death threat)
EDIT: I finished playing this game and I can safely say Faye isn't bad at all. She's not the best, but still not deserving of being called something like that
Echoes was okay, not great but it does enough for me to enjoy it.
Conquest was better though, completely agree.
Overall, for someone who came in at Awakening, as only played Awakening and Fates, but is very interested and open minded about this game, would you recommend to buy this?
Angelic Rooster Yes,is a good game,I prefer conquest, but you should buy it
I honestly prefer Echoes to Conquest for story reasons.
Za Ali Elitist
Kay Faraday No,I call him "elitist" because he insult people who like awakening and fates.I like the old and new games, please dont get me wrong
What "feeling"?
FE heroes got a new trailer and gameplay footage, what are your thoughts about it?
7.8 a bad score really?
Young people i don't even
For this game? Yes
Helado I swear the only reason COD games keep getting the scores they do is because Activision is paying them off.
rafresenden rafresenden. How people react to scores:
10: "It's a dream come true! I must have it! Instant buy! I can't live without it!"
9: "Pretty interesting! I'll definitely consider getting it."
8: "It's ok I guess. Maybe if I have the time or money, I might get it, but if I don't, then whatever."
7: "Not the worst thing I've seen, but it's pretty lacking. I'll pass."
6: "This just isn't for me. Not buying."
5: "This is a waste of time. Not gonna bother."
4: "This is shit."
3: "This is shit."
2: "This is shit."
1: "This is shit. Kill it with fire."
0: "This is shit. Kill it with fire & get me bleach."
rafresenden rafresenden. Well yeah the think is dating sim and waifus was the best thing ever in Fire emblem.
They gave Fates much better scores so yes, this is bad
Can you do a review of the Tellius games?
why is it that you and me agree on so many things you review... stop being good at review! wait no, stay good, theres a reason why i love your channel
There's one map in Echoes that is literally a copy of one from Awakening. It's near the end of Alm's route, and it is a replica from the Paralogue where you get Inigo.
Adam DraconaQuest It was like that in Gaiden, so that's on Awakening
Who are your favorite characters?
Lords:
1. Alm
2. Ike
3. Roy and Eliwood (can't decide)
4. Hector
5. Ephraim
Allies:
1. Xander (I don't consider him a lord)
2. Nephenee and Kliff (can't decide yet again)
3. Joshua
4. Ilyana
5. Zihark
Villains:
1. Berkut
2. Zelgius/Black Knight
3. Lyon
4. Zephiel
5. Nergal
Just to mention, there are only 3 characters I don't like: Corrin, Faye, Camilla
For me: Lords: 1-Ike 2-Alm 3-Hector 4-Lyn 5-Ephraim Allies: 1-Mia 2-Haar 3-Ryoma 4- Titania 5-Nephenee Villains: 1-Zelgius/Black Knight 2-Berkut 3-Lyon 4-Sephiran/Lehran 5-Nergal Characters I don't like: 1-Tharja 2- Virion 3-Corrin 4-Faye 5-Gunter
My main problem with FEESOV is that it fails it's theme(the way of the sword or the way of the heart ), Alm isn't ever presented as being in the wrong, and Celica gets mad at him because of her own lack of skill to argue and to present her point.
Actually now that I think about it there entire Act 2 conversation boils down to:
Celica: I'm mad at you!
Alm: Why are you mad at me? ( they just got back together and were having a moment!)
Celica: I'm mad at you BECAUSE you don't know why i'm mad at you
Alm:That doesn't sound fair...
Norilla I see,then it's a matter of how you approach the game,thanks!
I saw a typo called ''giaden'' Sorry if you you had a subtitle on it since I'm watching on mobile
If echoes was just Alm's route it would be one of the best fe stories
Echoes plays more like a strategic turn based strategy so the maps are more open with more broad features to accommodate that.
oh good im not the only one who thought the supports in echoes are rather short.

#JustPlayGiaden
Hollow :D *Gaiden
+Darth R0xad Haha, I knew someone would comment that. Go to the time marker in my comment and look at the way the BLAZINGKNIGHT spelled Gaiden.
There's a reason I put that time marker there lol.
Hollow :D Yeah, that mispelling annoyed me too.
I was caught off guard by it lol.
So...
#JustPlayGiaden
bro.
One problem I have with echoes is on the final battle I think that if Alm/Celica dies and one survives to the next turn you should be able to choose turnwheel or give up allowing you to not have to constantly replay if Alm gets killed while you are trying to defeat Duma
This is just my nitpicking and I'm probably overreacting but... I still think it should be a thing
Also... Yes Faye's character sucks (seriously people it's Cordelia but she can't move on properly) but she makes an excellent tank as a cleric.
Lila Duvendack Dying at Duma with Alm is exactly what happened to me and it was my first game over... I promptly put it down for a few days...
Fire emblem echoes 9/10 a good fire emblem remake with bad maps, some moments are force, and bad dlc but hey it's still good
alright, thanks for not bullshitting.
I think a lot of people are like, "This is different. I hate it." That is why they maybe don't like.
+Poinmagic 1 Then you will be surprised at how wrong you are tho :3 I started with Awakening/Fates and im always open for the older games.. And for a single playthrough I enjoyed Echoes I give the game that.. but other then that single playthrough I probably wont touch it anymore
6:19 Thank you BLAZINGKNIGHT! I definitely agree, Ian Sinclair deserves it!
Am I the only one who didn't think Faye was that bad? I mean she won't be on any top ten lists but I didn't think she was horrible.
What video editing software you use?
Echoes is an awesome game! But some of the medals makes you do so many tedious things.... ._.
is it normal in fire emblem for bosses to only be hurt by one unit? I am legit curious because you can only kill duma with alm/celica and both duma and jedah can stop you for attacking. Is this normal
Not exactly, normal fire emblem bosses can be hurt by pretty much anyone, however final bosses tend to have some form of divine protection or something that prevents standard weapons from hurting them, so you must usually legendary ones to inflict any form of damage which the lords will always have access to, however in some games like binding blade other units can use them too, so it varies.
Good to know that is not normal because Jedah is a pain to fight
my personal opinion of echeos is act 4 is realy annoying i even took a 1week break ( mainly because i got my switch and disgaea 5). my main probleme is teh danm Cantors CAN YOU STOP SUMMONING 1 MILLION MONSTERS STOP MAKING THE BATTLE TAKE LONGER!!... sorry i had to let it out of my chest
Baka1fred Honestly, Cantors are only bad on Swamp maps, everywhere else, they're a cool idea that needed a little bit of tweaking
Baka1fred I'm tired of people overreacting over Cantors. They aren't even that hard to deal with. The only map that they truly were a problem for me was that swamp one where he kept summoning Gargoyles.
Agreed. Honestly cantors were so easy to deal with. Do people not know that warp exists?
i'll admit i over reacted, sorry
Baka1fred You don't have to be sorry. We're just saying that for us personally, cantors weren't hard to deal with.
