Fire Emblem Echoes has proved once again that one of the best aspects of this series are its cast of characters, and these ten particular party members, were what I feel to be the very best that this game had to offer!

I like Alm more then Celica as well. I feel that Celica is just too gullible for her own good, not to mention the conflict she had with Alm because he killed people, even though Celica was just as guilty about that.

Danniel Cavazos valbar helped in my first casual playthrough but on hard mode he just kept dying so I benched him, I couldn't even train him bc he always died and he has too few support conversations to make me like him as a character

People need to calm the hell down about Celica. I honestly see why she would make some of the decisions. People have been after her her whole life. She's been in hiding since she was little and she's desperately trying to find a way to end the war without bloodshed. Then someone comes in and says they can do that and save the people she loves in exchange for their life well to her that's a no brainer. I feel like I would make that same decision if I was in her shoes especially with all the pressure that's been put into her all her life.

He sits still and smiles, because if god forbid he did anything interesting like Celica, everyone would hate him too. Luckyshot he is, infact the highest strenght growth. Thing is that Forsyth has betterbcomplimitery stats and in echoes complimentary stats > main stats
Blake Blast. Forsyth has garbage bases that can't be compensated by anything and Valbar is a Armour knight in Celica's route. Lukas: Availability, great bases and growths that will keep him consistent until end game. To say Valbar and especially Forsyth are better is ignorant.
Luckyshot Actually, I'm using Lukas as a knight, but besides Tobin, Gray, and, I'm sorry Crash, Faye, Lukas has been a pretty solid unit to me.

Blake Blast if you max out Lukas stats, he becomes the strongest character in the game along with Alm, both got 45 max str, except for Delthea that gets 46 xD. I could be wrong and someone else gets even more str, but 45 is really respectable.
Personally, as a gay man, I felt Leon's sexuality was done very well. He's confident in himself, and is open about it, and I would disagree in the thought that it is a bit forced. Kamui and Valbar are obviously aware of his sexuality, and he's fine with mentioning it when the topic is there. It felt a lot like how I express myself around friends.
For Celica, I'd agree. She's very well-written, except for late in Act 4 and Early Act 5. That was just straight up bad writing.
Mathlida is so good as well. She's such a fun character (and deserves better than Clive)

Leon is my favorite character. I wish valbar would get together with Leon because of valbar pass with losing his family
I love Leon sm. Its so rare to get a character who's openly gay and very much flamboyant while not being creepy towards other men. He just wants to stay at Valbar's side man 😭

Leon has maturely accepted something that'll never come to fruition, and he's okay with that. He's not complaining nor is he wasting time wishing for something that will never happen.
Valbar thinks of Leon as a trusted friend. Not exactly best friends, but trusted nevertheless.
He's aware of Leon having a love for him, but they both understand that it's unrequited.
It's a healthy, common, and respectable relationship.

It's only that the next game in chronological order in regards to Archanea/Valentia, is a game that has never been localised.
FE3 Book 2 or FE12.
Alm is definitely better than Celica. Celica is really stupid in Act 4. "Yeah, let's totally trust the sleazy evil Duma supporter who's lied, tried to kill the entire party on multiple occasions, and has shown nothing but malicious intent for the entire game!" Also, her motives are hypocritical. "I will end the war with peace by going to war with the Duma faithful!" "How dare you kill your enemies Alm! It is unforgivable to kill a person even though I've been slaughtering pirates for the entirety of Act 2!" Alm's character is actually really interesting considering that plot twist in Act 4 and his background being unique compared to the other Lords (besides Ike).
The biggest problem I have with Celica (and her party) is the lack of camaraderie. It honestly seems like Alm's party is a group of like minded individuals who all have the desire to defeat Rigel (probably the only 3 who don't are Python, Tatiana and Zeke, and that's a slight exaggeration), meanwhile Celica's party consists mainly of those who either give their all simply because she helped them or saved their skin. Pretty much Boey and Mae and maybe Saber all have the desire to restore Mila, but everyone else has their own desires at heart.
Genny is just going along for the adventure.
Pegasus Sisters join up because Celica's army saved them, and the same goes for Valbar's Crew, though Kamui just does it for money, and Leon just does it because he's thirsty for Valbar.
Jesse and to a slight extent, Saber, are there simply for the dough or their own desires.
Deen and/or Sonia are there for whatever reason.
Conrad is actually there to prevent his sister from doing anything stupid. He isn't evn there to restore Mila to her throne.
Probably explains why Saber, Boey and Mae are the only three relevant to the plot until the late game (until Conrad comes in).
I'm glad you can see that Celica is a good character. I'm so sick of everyone whining because of what happened in Chapter 4. She did what she thought she had to, and ended up learning a great deal from her mistakes.
So sorry for all of you that want some perfect protagonist that can do no wrong.
Okay yeah, I kind of exaggerated there.
It's just I get a little frustrated when people harp on every single mistake a character makes. I mean, it's easy for us to judge as observers. We're not in Celica or any other character's shoes.

Alm is way better than Celica. Celica was ok until act 4, where she became an idiot for trusting Jedah. She is similar to Eirika in he fact where she stupidly trusts the enemy.

I also found Zeke to be better then Mathilda. Mathilda really didn't do that much for me later in the game, and Zeke was just a better unit. I also liked Zeke's character more then Mathilda, which went along with him being the 2nd best Gold Knight I got in the game.
My Mathilda was already better than Zeke when I recruited him, and I didn't even have to grind

The cast is only small compared to fates, which was too big. Revelations was a giant mess.
I know what you mean. in revelations, you basically had little reason to use anything else outside of members of the two royal families (or technically 3 royal families I suppose) and their respective pair-up fodder, yet you still got pretty much every unit from both routes. characters like niles, who was one of my main units in conquest, I never used even once in revelations.

Radiant Dawn's character problem is slightly lessened by being split into three armies and two games. Still bad at the endgame, but not Revelations bad.
Not saying the characters weren't awesome. I'm saying that there were way too many in one game on one route. If Revelations had a third cast for its own route instead of the entire cast of both games plus child characters, it would have been a much more manageable number.

When traveling through the Thabes Labyrinth, you want to make sure you can hit from a distance and heal as much as possible. I brought people like Leon who can hit up to 5 spaces away and Tatiana who has fortify and physic. The real challenge are the fire dragons in that one area protecting the fountains with one giving boosts to resistance and the final battle map. Lure the water dragons out so the fire dragons don't come running after you. As for myself, I had my units charge directly toward me and after taking out the masks who were chasing them I placed Valbar just in range of me while everyone out of range. Then I took myself out the next turn with my archers and after attacking with Alm I finished myself with Celica using Ragnarok Omega.
Fuck all of you! I'm the best character in the game and you know it!
Python is one of my favorite units. His character, backstory, and his 3 supports really give him and stand out personality. In both of my playthroughs, he was always better than leon when it comes to anything aside form skill. Plus, his support with Clive and Lukas gives him better accuracy. He has been consitantly getting 85-100% hit everytime and it was a joy seeing him wreck all the bow knights and arcanist in Slayde's map. While Leon was alright, he could not even compare with the awesomeness of Python. He and Alm practically carried the endgame. That and the Dread Fighters
huh i had the opposite happen python for me always missed, constantly got doubled by enemy archers and for me leon WAS A GOD AMONG MEN getting crits constantly had the highest damage output and good defense.
I like Python as a character but?? Hes just. So bad in my playthrough. When he hits, he hits hard but HE NEVER HITS 😭 Leon on the other hand kicked some MASSIVE ass
Ok, but can we get real for a second? Where is the love for Clive!!?? Clive has what I personally feel to be the best character arc in the entirety of Echoes. He starts as an honorable man who fights for a just cause, but can be hypocritical in his actions because he cares for nobility more than common-folk, and it's not through any fault of his, it's just the way he was raised. Then halfway through the game, Clive ACKNOWLEDGES his own weakness, and realizing what he lacks in comparison to Alm, and why Alm would truly be the finest leader for Zofia. From there he fully supports Alm, acting as more of the 'ruthless calculus' advisor, but having enough respect and trust in his commander to step down when he and Alm aren't in agreement with his 'putting personal feelings aside' perspective. And that's not even counting his relationships with Fernand and Mathilda and Lukas! Clive to me is one of the most well developed and interesting characters the series has ever made! And while he may not be the best unit, it breaks my heart to see him ignored so undeservingly. Give Clive more love!!!

Kylo Vader My memory isn't the best, but I'm pretty sure Lukas vouched for Alm's prowess as a leader when they met up with Clive, so Clive's trust in Lukas as well as Alm being Mycen's grandson helped convince him. Also there was the fact that Alm saved Clive's little sister.

Oh, yes...Gray. I remember deciding just to class him as Villager again, for the fun of it, but he got EXP right quick. Then all of a sudden, he was basically OHKO'ing enemies with Zweihander. Before the next hour, he was all of a sudden surpassing a Lv20 Hero Alm equipped with Falchion. My Gray is currently maxed without use of DLC at all. I mean, if his resistance were higher, he could literally be a real Army of One.
1. Python (if you've seen his and forsyth's memory prism, his support convo with lukas and clive and his lines in general, it's pretty obvious)
2. Lukas (do I even have to explain... just watch his dialogue and support conversation with python)
3. Alm (very relatable, punny, and his voice acting after the Rudolf part just... killed me)
4. Saber (badass, went from not caring to father figure, my dad)

6. Gray (his dialogue is 10/10)

I approve of Mae being number 1. I just love her energy.
I'm also glad you gave Celica some love. While her actions are questionable later, I feel people are too harsh and see it less from the in-universe view and more from the audience who already know what's happening view. If you take out Jedah's silly design and maybe some of those dialogue bits, it's all quite understandable, not to mention a lot of it was blackmail.

My favorite character is probably Tobin. Since he sucked in Gaiden, I wasn't planning on really using him, but his character was so great that I wanted to use him. I loved his growth as a character.
Tobin even got buffed in Echoes. There's still hope for characters like Roy and Gwendolyn!
Make him a Yasha with Mercurius.

My Python turned out pretty amazing postgame, but as far as the main game goes, Leon was much better.
Celica is VERY like Eirika, who I also love even though the fandom trashes her for being naive and making mistakes. And she was easily one of my best units, even killed Jedah with a crit for me at the end.
I relied on Saber a LOT in Gaiden, and he did not disappoint in Echoes. He was my main mercenary and never left my party even once. Plus his character is really cool, I was surprised at how much screen time he got in Echoes, and how he was basically acting like Celica's dad the whole time.
Glad Genny got an honorable mention. The narrative kinda shafted her, but she's still adorable and I loved her supports with Sonya.
Now someone point out that Sacred Stones is a spiritual succesor to Gaiden.

I really didn't like Celica. She unfortunately just got the Xander plauge, doing stupid and illogical shit just to progress the story. This just ruins her character for me. Celica is one of the two characters I actually DISLIKE in this game, the other being Faye. Alm on the other hand has become my favorite Fire Emblem character. Alm's story and character where SO much better than Celica's imo. Alm's path almost made me tear up while Celica's path made me facepalm and yell at my ds. Celica could of been so much better, but you need to progress the story somehow I guess.
She is nothing like Xander. Celica didn't want to but she didn't feel like she had a choice. She didn't blindly defend Jedah like mr. "muh father does everything right!". She wasn't willing to kill Alm over Jedah either, quite the opposite actually! She did what she did to keep him safe! She said more than once in her route "this man is completely mad!". The situation looked incredibly bleak because think about it: Mila was GONE, the world was a fight for survival, monsters were everywhere, Jedah made it seem like Duma was on the brink of going mad, but can still be saved while getting Mila back and the falchion to defeat him was sealed as well. Celica was willing to stand up and sacrifice herself for the sake of her people: for the sake of Valentia. It's not her fault Jedah was a douche. Celica is a peace-lover, Jedah offered a solution to end all the conflict. From what I see she WANTED to believe him and yet she wasn't trusting of him. Calling him mad and not agreeing to the deal until they see Mila proves that.
Sharena The Askr Princess I never said Celica is the exact same as Xander, I just said Celica got the same treatment Xander got, a character used just to progress the story. I agree with some of your points and I don't hate Celica as much as Xander as well. If you're watched Ghast's Xander support science you can see how support Xander thinks and that's how I wish Xander acted in Fates story. Same case with Celica, you can see what she really wants but she does stupid shit that is the complete opposite of what she wants. "I want peace" instead of working together with Alm to bring the war to an end, she sets of on her own journey, to do more of what she is criticizing Alm for wanting to do; fighting and violence. "I want my friends to be happy" so she's gonna let this evil looking dude, who she completely trusts for some reason, sacrifice her soul to a mad god. If she wants peace and her friends to be happy how the hell is sacrificing your soul to the mad god causing the war (kinda) give you what you want. Same case with Xander. If he wants to end the war as quickly as possible and knows Garon is kinda sorta insane, why does he still free the Hoshidian royals and prolong the war in Conquest and still fight Corrin, not fulfill Elise's dying wish, and waste his life in Birthright. Both are just such wasted characters unfortunately. This games story is much better than any of the three pathways of Fates, even with Celica's dumbass decisions though, so yes, I still like Celica more than Xander. but im still a disgraceful corrin fanboy though lol
But like Xander she blindly trusts that Jedah is doing the correct thing. Maybe not in trying to kill her friends but in trying to steal her soul to give to Duma. Without even trying to find a book on Dragons, asking Nomah who would be incredibly useful for advice giving or even trying to rely on her friends. Like Xander she tries to juggle all of her struggles by herself and makes dumb decisions because of it. Whether it's trusting Jedah or blindly following his father. She really did get the Xander treatment in regards to that and because she and Xander are both clearly smarter than their in-game actions showed.
She couldn't work with Alm. They had entire separate goals and plans. Alm wasn't ever planning to go to the Temple of Mila and the last thing Celica wanted was to join a war. If she told him she was the princess she would've had no choice but to lead the deliverance as Boey states.
Her going her own path and being independent discovered Halcyon and if it wasn't for him most likely bailing Alm out of Nuibaba's mirror the deliverance would've been screwed.
She's not a fan of random fighting either. Just like with Jedah she didn't have a choice. Everyone against her was hurting innocent people and were terrible. Yet she still gave them a chance to live and surrender like with the Pirate King. If she didn't kill them they would've killed her and her friends or hurt others like the Whitewings.
Jedah on the other hand was cheap and black-mailed his way through Celica. He had Alm at stake with him canonly being trapped at the necro-dragon spawning point.
She didn't trust him. She didn't completely trust him. Calling him mad and only even considering because he brought up Mila. She wanted to though since he offered the chance of peace and stopping everything with both gods being safe. Jedah went back on his word though.
She was going to sacrifice herself because it was said to at least calm the mad god down. It wasn't revealed he was bs'ing until literally as he had the struggling Celica in his grasp and was going through with the sacrifice.
She was going to tell them before she got sacrificed because they just would've freaked out and immediately say no.
She's brash, she rushed in there but that's great to see a character flaw! Instead of being perfect with everything and getting everything right to a tee.
It's not she isn't called out for making a brash decision and being human. It makes her more interesting in my eyes.

Luzy Lst I rspect your opinion and to be honest the only downside of the weapon triangle is that the game punishes you for having the weapon disadvantage even if you have a 70% hit rate and your opponent has a 60%.

Good list Blazing Knight my only real gripe is that Python is my favorite character. I found on Alm's route he saw so much use helping with those cantors especially. I wanted to ask how to properly train any of the Pegasus knights. As much as I loved their characters especially Clair their levels and stats felt too low for when they joined my party. How did you go about catching them up to become good in the late game?

whats so great about python? I mean, I like the way he delivers his lines in support convos, especially with forsythe or whatever his name is, and his design is neat, but outside of that he is a really dull character. And gameplay wise sure, he is the fastest archer in the game, but that doesn't mean much when you want to give every archer their own individual killer bow anyways for hunter volley. Matter of fact, thats why, after long consideration of what to do with them, I used 2 of my 3 pitchforks to make python a dread fighter and forsythe an archer. Best decision ever.

I pity Faye but I don't like her very much.
Celica's reasoning for sacrificing herself was deff to save/free alm from Dragon's maw because in Act 4, IF you were to kill zeke, the villagers tell alm's party to die at the dragon's maw, plus in Gaiden he was originally trapped there, whilst in echoes he isn't(you literally have an unlimited food supply in echoes so there's isn't really a reason why he shouldn't be trapped there aside from anyone potentially being able to run out of food items..which is..pretty unlikely actually! plus it's a sign to do Celica's story next but because there's no trap in echoes it creates a large plothole for Celica).
Jedah does say "Alm's Suffering" at the end of Celica's act 4, which alludes to Alm being trapped within the dragon's maw, fighting until he is killed by the necrodragons. Celica deff sacrificed herself not only for Zofia but also to save/free alm from the Dragon's maw trap, but Because it isn't trapped in echoes, it causes a rather strong plothole causing Celica to be dumb.
Celica deff isn't dumb in Act 4, she had her reasons for sacrificing herself, one of which is keeping alm safe, which she did, but the game only VAGUELY hints at alm being trapped in dragon's maw, the other piece of which can only be found via killing zeke and the villagers telling the party to go die at the dragon's maw/to the necrodragons at the dragon's maw.
I highly implore some of you to read/watch Gaiden's act 4 and look for alm being trapped in dragon's crater and look for Jedah's mentioning "Alm's Suffering" in echoes(or repeatedly fight the necrodragons at dragon's crater to replicate Gaiden's trap.) that should at least help to understand why Celica sacrificed herself in echoes(aside from out of desperation) the only reason why it seems like she sacrificed herself for nothin is specifically because the Dragon's maw doesn't trap alm, if it did then there wouldn't be a plothole at the end of her act 4.
not to mention being able to skip dragon's maw in echoes but that doesn't really do anything other than make Celica seem dumb, as I believe you're SUPPOSED to do Alm's story first as the Dragon's maw is supposed to trap him but sadly doesn't, thus leading to Celica's act 4's plothole

Honestly didn't like Celica or her story too much, had way more fun going through Alm's route throughout the game.
Well I feel like BECAUSE the character roster is so small it is so brilliant. More time to put into each character. Almost all characters are fleshed out so well unlike other games where they just throw characters at you (New Mystery, Fates, etc...) I prefer Echoes approach

Idk I find Deen captivating. He clearly didn't like Grieth and had his own motivations, possibly to find his fiancé-who-turned-witch. He's clearly pained in his last convo with Jesse, so he falls under the misunderstood archetype of silent men who feel more than they show.

False. You want Ridersbane because you can forge it to Rhomphia allowing her access to dragon haze once fully maxed. Dragonhaze allowes her to do damage based off of speed, which Clair as you said, has plenty of.

And to answer the people above me, I can give a full report on why I like Faye. Note: This is not meant to persuade you to like her, it is merely the reasons and the proof I found to support my claims.
First off, let's get the elephant out first. Yes, she loves Alm. This makes up a good chunk of her character and dialogue and battle quotes. This is an understatment, but take that as you will. I acknowledge that she can be a bit obseesive, I say a bit because there are other characters that take it too far or are more annoying with their infatuations. Tharja, Not!Tharja, Camilla, Malicia... Not a long list, but still. She isn't as bad as most people say, she doesn't watch Alm sleep, or declare they are meant to be after meeting him the first time, doesn't bad talk Alm's chosen lover (Malicia implies it kinda, but you get it.) nor does she go on psychopathic rampages when Alm says he doesn't love her. She accepts it and lets him go after the who he "loves". Loves in quotations because that's a whole other essay that I'm not going to bring up. She is compared to a Yandere according to a good number of fans, though she doesn't show the more classical symptoms, only the minor symptoms. The minor symptoms that she does seem to act slightly lovesick and such for Alm, is noted and can fall under Yandere. But she is not a stalker and she is not violent towards anyone who goes near Alm. And another note: Leon has the same exact character like Faye except it's for Valbar and he's gay.
Second, after leaping over the hurdle of the first part, you would think that there isn't much or even anything left for a personality. However, after spending time really paying attention to what she says and the faces she makes and listening to her, this isn't really the case. Though many characters do share this, she does have some connection to the religion and worship of Mila, due to her level up quote of "I feel the Mother's protection." Which can mean she must have some values from the religion that she follows. Which can explain why she can be such a talented cleric. Since the clerics of the game Genny, Silque and Tatiana are so devoted to the Mother (why is Tatiana devoted to Mila, wouldn't it make more sense to be devoted to Duma?) they show off powers granted from the mother due to their devotion. That being said, it's possible that Faye could have strong ties and feelings towards the religion as well, explaining her talents for healing. She also has a more pacifist personality- DON'T SCOFF YET- due to my next points. Sure, she says she will slay more enemies for Alm, yes. But he does remark that her doing so is odd for her, which can also tie in to why she is as great Cleric but an average or less than stellar mage. Mages tend to use and utilize more offensive magic and are meant to hurt others. But with the establishment of Faye being pacifistic this sounds like something she wouldn't feel comfortable with, which can explain her short magic list on the mage line, but her great line up of the Cleric line. Which can also tie into why she is the only one who can "dance" so others can go again, with them being the ones to go and fight instead of her. This can also connect with her level up quote and face of her being stronger. "It's nice to get stronger", she says as her face shows clear distress, while her face is usually happy when she gets blessed with luck, gets better at reading the enemy, things and quotes that can connect with her not wanting to hurt people.
Third, the prologue. The prologue where the kids were attacked and threatened with death and such? Mycen and Slayde? We all remember that. Well, as we remember, Faye and Kliff were the most distressed during that moment (Celica as well, though these two were full on bawling). A traumatic experience that can definitely change a person, which is what happened with Faye and Kliff. Kliff ended up becoming standoffish and even closed up with people, including his childhood friends. Faye? Something did change in her, she started to really attach to Alm then, since he was her Knight in shining armor that helped all of them during that moment in the past. She remembers this moment clearly and is affected by it since she is one of the few people who actually brings up that moment in the past in her first base conversation. She also started to train with the boys, which is a huge step for her. This is Medieval times, so women aren't seen to really have a role in war, (Mathilda and Clair are nobles, so they can get away with this, Delthea is meant to be a Mage, due to her lineage). Her willingness to learn how to defend herself is the effect of that day in the prologue. This event also could have been the moment her love for Alm could have escalated from just her willingness to be around Alm when they were kids.
Fourth, she may suffer from depression. Though her epilogue is god awful, it has a few worrying qualities in it. One of the effects of depression is the person isolates themselves from friends and family, which is what she does. The amount of time she isolates herself is weeks at a time. Though this isn't enough evidence so let's look at what happens when Faye reaches A with Alm. She gets a debuff in her avoid. Sure, she hits harder, but now she gets hit more often. When connected with my earlier point about her pacifism, isn't it odd that she would do more damage and have a better hit rate and lower avoid? It is, since now she is throwing herself into battle now and not caring about her wellbeing. She is willing to throw away her safety and put herself at risk due to the heartbreak, which can start depression. Putting themselves at risk of bodily harm or even death is another effect of depression, since the person is losing hope and does not see a reason to be careful and preserve their own life anymore.
Finally, the reason I like Faye so much is just the tragedy that is her life. She is a new character made purely to fill the roster with another girl and to pine for Alm to be ultimately kicked aside and to suffer in her epilogue. This type of treatment just endears her to me, since the harsh treatment speaks volumes to people who have experienced unrequited love and has experienced unfair circumstances. Though some find her love for Alm to be annoying and such, I find it endearing and enjoyable. These are my opinions, so I can't support this with much in game context.
In conclusion, her joining and following Alm's army despite being a pacifist, her hidden devotion to the mother, her good nature, the possibility of depression and hidden parts about her make me love this character to pieces. Despite what others say.

the thing with that is, you already get 3 dread fighters in celicas route, a 4th one is kinda redundant. now you could say sonya is redundant as well because its a 4th mage along with celica, mae and boey, but 1. while dread fighters are very good units, a fast mage like sonya is just more versatile, and more importantly 2, you can't really count boey because that man can't do anything. matter of fact, I had to give him the free taurus shard you get from milas blessing and have him hold it throughout his entire leveling process from the beginning of the game onward for him to even be able to hold his own in the mid- to lategame.
TheMike0088 You have a point with the redundancy with the Dread Fighters. I have only played through Fire Emblem Echoes once and have yet to use sonya. Personally, I really liked using Boey. I know he can miss sometimes, but I was able to use him a lot and get him reclassed as a sage.

What makes Sonya more tragic is the end. It is implyed she was turned into a witch while searching for a way to revert women back from being witches. There is also the less tragic option that they were just rumors.

I don't think Leon's openness about his sexuality came off as forced at all, but that may just be because a good chunk of the words my gay friends and I say on a daily basis are about how gay we are.
I was so happy to see that he got an equal chance to talk about the men he's been in love with (both the one he joined the army for and Valbar) as the straight characters get to talk about their romantic interests, like Clive with Mathilda or Tatiana with Zeke.
The fact that we got a character who's so unapologetic about the fact that he's gay and the fact that it's treated as a normal thing while also being indisputably there and acknowledged more than once makes me so happy, and I'm so glad he's being generally well received from what I've seen.
(On an unrelated note, I've found that forging an iron bow for Python makes him much easier to use and he actually ended up as a really strong archer for me the second time I played through this game. I might have also just had really good luck with stats, but I think I'll be doing that for him from now on.)

I personally rank Alm over Celica because he has a little more integrity than Celica.
Alm owns his choices and mistakes, and even sometimes questions his own motivations at times, allowing his friends to help pick up his slack. There are a couple of times he offered that if anyone was uncomfortable with the path they have taken, they would be free to go.
Celica on the other hand, is a little more stubborn and prideful. When she first reunites with Alm, when he confirms that not only is he the leader of the Deliverance, but was also planning on taking the fight to Rigel, she immediately assumes that he intends to take a position of power afterwards. Later, when Jedah tells her what she needs to do in order to save Zofia with no evidence other than a "Trust me," she clams up and her dodginess starts raising eyebrows within her own party.
drakelord56 well when you lead an army to take on another empire you kinda have to have a ruler over that land... and I am soooo sick of you people that have no idea how to pick up on social queues. 1. She was upset because not only did he (unintentionally) disrespect her and her family, but he’s doing the one thing she can’t stand: war. So of course she’s going to get upset when one of the people she truly loves does something she hates. 2. People love to bring up the Jeddah part, but if you REALLY think about it. And I mean REALLY think, what choice did she have? She’s literally been taught all her life that Mila fixes everything. So why would she think that some 17 year old boy could kill Duma and fix everything?
She didn’t, which is why it was her duty to take the initiative, since she couldn’t reveal her identity since she doesn’t like war, she had to rely on herself. She isn’t prideful, she’s independent so others don’t worry about her.
I don't know about Valbar being the best knight. Forsyth is my choice for best.
I personally like Celica a lot but she had serious flaws in her character that did not feel were consistent with her character's arc of being someone who will fight only in that it may eventually lead to peace. She was bold and brazen in her convictions but it seemed at times she did not consider the feelings and opinions of her company. I get that she feels she must bear all responsibility on her shoulders as the crown princess of Zofia, but it felt like she never learned to trust the council of her friends until Jedah's final deception. Conrad makes her promise to not throw away her life, and what does she do without getting council from her friends and allies, attempts to throw her life away granted to save those she cared about but she did not even stop to consider if there might be another way. I love the fact that she has a very distinct and memorable personality, but it felt like she did not learn from her mistakes in a meaningful way. I think she had very real and reasonable flaws and could have been by far the deepest and most complex character in the game, if the story had properly showcased her learning from her mistakes which it felt like she did not do til it almost cost her everything she cared about. Meanwhile, Alm was less interesting in terms of complexity, but he had convictions and ultimately came to accept his role as leader going from a reluctant hero who was guided by what he felt was right in his heart, to a leader worthy of respect whose strength and convictions could and would inspire others to take action even in the midst of uncertainty. Alm also made rash decisions (rushing after Nuibaba when he was aware that he could potentially be falling into a trap and the fact that he is extremely emotional and blunt with his words like when he first spoke with Celica for the first time in years. Where I think Alm succeeds where Celica fell short was that it was clearer that he learned from and acknowledged his own weaknesses and shortcomings while Celica kept everything inside and as a result never learned to seek the council of others. I still think they were both great characters and both were easily in my top 5 favorite characters but Celica definitely did not have as solid character growth as she could have had.

BlazingKnight, I had a feeling you would release a video like this on the Echoes' cast and enjoyed it quite a bit. I would say that my favorite archer was Python, I just loved every line of dialogue he had and while yes his accuracy is shaky at best I found that once he became a bow knight his reliability drastically improved. Also Python hits HARD, have you noticed that his design and personality are a LOT like Lex's from Genealogy of the Holy War? I am convinced that Python's design and character are based off of Lex. Another character I liked was Atlas I liked his country born, mountain raised , hard working kind of guy and his frankness, my favorite mage was Luthier I loved his arrogance and just how sure of himself he was and I liked how concerned he was for his sister's wellbeing. In general I agreed with your list. Except when it comes too Alm and Celica I probably would have had them closer together as I like them both quite a lot but for different reasons I like how Alm basically rises to the cause that is set before him, while Celica before she even sets out already has a lot of burdens that she is bearing.
One final thing I really liked Echoes a LOT, and I like how it feels every unit has a role and job to fill. Most games I'll focus on the fighters and mercs and almost ignore the mages. Not so in this game, here I wanted to and used EVERYBODY. Now cavaliers and mercenaries are still my favorite units but I liked how mages and archers felt like much more viable units in this game compared to others that I have played. I'll have to disagree with a couple things, mainly celica. she was easily my least favorite character in the game from her Mary sue personality and the scene where she argues with alm that He's fighting a war against an invading country hellbent on killing everyone and everything they know and love. (she is immediately hypocritical by continuing to fight her own war during her path), and was pretty meh as a unit for me. Secondly Mathilda and Clive were by far the worst units on Alm's path for me personally, deal one damage, get one shot, make me waste a turn wheel charge, repeat.
Other than that pretty good list, love your content, keep up the good work.
Reaper Kenji I agree with you on Celica 100% and Clive. Mathilda on the other hand, in combat and design wise she was good for me at least.
You're using the mary sue term wrong. She is anything *but* a mary sue. The closest to a mary sue in this series is one with no flaws. Aka Ike in Radiant Dawn.
Gps1337 Not sure if I just got RNG screwed on her growths then but I honestly can't get her to deal damage or stop dying.
AND Celica in Shadows of Valentia. She does not change from her mistakes. Yes, She realizes they were wrong but She does just wallows in regret until Alm saves her ass
