Since Dorothea and Ingrid are establishing themselves as two of my most favorite characters for Three Houses I'm feeling the young nobleman at the center of the Paralouge involving them will be character-wise an egotistical perverted piece of crap who thinks he can toy with Dorothea's emotions since she's in love with him, and marry Ingrid breaking Dorothea's heart just because he's a noble.

Funny how you mention that the one interesting thing about Garon was that he 'used' to be a good man but the game never shows any sign of that. The manga actually shows that a part of his old self is still there and fighting to regain control of himself from Anankos. It's only for a moment and unfortuantly the manga may not continue but it was still nice to see that.

Corrin is far more interesting to me in Conquest than in Birthright or Revelation because he/she's actually the Camus of that version. I know that people assume because Xander is Birthright's Camus that Ryoma should be Conquest's by default, but in reality Ryoma has absolutely no reason to join you or sympathize with you. Meanwhile, Corrin tries to avoid non-necessary deaths while fighting for Garon and should have been on Hoshido's side or with nobody because the third options doesn't make much sense for a main Lord. Unless, like I said, Corrin is actually a Camus main character.

I feel like Meg suffered from the unfortunate no proper support in Radiant Dawn, and I think she does fit in well in the world. She by no means is a bad unit for me when I train her up, and I believe in the fact that she is amongst the bravest of the units, she is a farmer's girl who went to find love and instead fought for the fate of the world and not even once backed down or thought nope! She stood by Micaiah and Sothe, and did her best. (I also think Corrin was great in Fire Emblem Warriors, and I love the Corrin design it's just big shame they dropped the ball, otherwise I really like them xD) Oh yeah and Makalov is just ....urgh, I even used him once in the Endgame of Radiant Dawn because I wanted to see how he would perform.
hopefully, should the tellius games be remade, there might be a way for characters to have a voice post-recruitment. shadows of valentia benefited a lot from it
Meg also disobeys her father when he orders her to switch sides, because she doesn't want to leave her friends down! Even Jill, aka one of the most resolute characters in the series by the end of Path or Radiance, is easily convinced to defect by Haar. Meg lacks characterization for sure and is one of the worst units in RD, but we're still given enough to see who she is and what she values. She just walked on her own all the way from Crimea to Daein just to meet Zihark for Pete's sake. She's one of the purest character in FE, but I guess that doesn't come across as well when you're not a cute girl wearing a miniskirt.
I think it's a matter or case of further exploration of the Character's background to get that admiration. This is something Radiant Dawn's potential remake to improve on.
Gannon is the worst to me since of the waisted potential we could have seen what he was like before being turned evil and we would have known why Xander respects him also imagine when you fight him his realself comes out and thanks Corrin and the others for saving him that would have been much better in my opinion

long, dumb Xander apologist essay ahead: I don't know about Xander respecting him- I haven't finished playing Conquest yet, but the way the Nohrian siblings all talk so casually about potentially being killed for disobeying (a scene comes to mind, maybe around Ch 14. where Xander immediately volunteered to be executed instead of Corrin) makes me think Xander, Camilla and Leo are constantly walking on eggshells, giving the impression that they're obediently following Garon's every order. I can't remember where I read it, but I remember reading that Xander thought his father was the most terrifying person he'd ever met. It's not like any of them could flee. Where would the Nohr siblings go? They can't go to Hoshido for obvious reasons, anywhere in or near Nohr is off the table because Iago and that other guy who's name I can't be bothered to remember can easily monitor them and track them down. The bottomless canyon is death, for all they know. Xander, being the oldest and the crown prince, would likely be under the most scrutiny for any sign of wavering loyalty. Given how Garon's first move was to execute Corrin under suspicion of being a Hoshidan spy, anyone with a functional self preservation instinct would put on an air of fanatical nationalism and sing the praises of the guy who's your father, but also wouldn't hesitate to execute you for the slightest transgression. It speaks volumes to the weaknesses of Fates' writing as a whole that I had to go to such lengths to guess a major character's motivation for defending a merciless dictator, and yet I find the Nohrian siblings far more interesting because of this dynamic between them and Garon.
I feel like RD did Meg and the entire Dawn Brigade dirty with absolutely no character development. I kinda liked Izuka since his actions make more sense when you take into consideration that he's not really on Daein's side. And you get to kill him which was great. For Makalov... Yeah at least you get some free stuff from him.
In my opinion Faye's overall appearance is what makes her more of a terrifying character. I mean at face value she seems very approachable and welcoming, only to realize to late the underlying insanity within. Camilla and Tharja's appearances match well to their personalities, and highlights their occupation and intimidating demeanor that makes them seem dangerous. That doesn't mean Tharja nor Camilla don't have their soft sides if someone looks deeper, but their more darkest behaviors are displayed upfront, that show's honesty and open they both are in truth to their nature. Faye, is the equivalent of a psychopath hiding her real nature, appearing as a 'normal' village peasant woman that any poor soul, especially Alm, can asossiat with, only to realize too late the obsessive, harsh monster that lies within.
Faye and Lukas(My BOOOOOOOOOOOOY-) are drastically and really well written sociopaths. The main difference though is the writers know Lukas is one, and write around that while making him a sympathetic and good person _AND_ character, while with Faye, the writers don't seem to realize she's a sociopath and forgot to actually write around that lol They somehow wrote a Horror antagonist without noticing.
Ah, Stella... no only had your name changed to Astrid for absolutely no reason whatsoever, you were the indisputable best archer and one of the best mounted units in your debut game, with great support with Sothe and a rather tragic backstory, considering you were supposed to marry Lekain, making your decision to run away and join a war you had no business in, but quickly leveling up and growing to be an integral part of the team for many players all that more compelling, only to be completely cast aside as a delusional battered house wife to a good for nothing drunk gambler and a rather useless unit whose Elite/Paragon skill and even data transfer stats increase aren't enough to make you a valuable unit or character... Why must she suffer like this?

Desmond doesn't really bother me, and I think the reason why is because I feel that his being a scumbag is kind of the point the story writers were going for. Though the story of Desmond and Zephiel is just a subplot in FE 7, I believe it does a good job telling a believable story how Zephiel reached the point of no return in distrusting and despising humanity by the time FE 6 takes place. I can definitely believe the tale of an upright, promising young man turning completely bitter in his older years due to his father - whom he desperately wants to be appreciated by - trying to kill him out of envy and paranoia. I can also believe a story about a king who, knowing that his personal traits are merely average and are overshadowed by those of his prodigious son, becomes paranoid that he will be overthrown and replaced by his son, whom the people would reasonably be eager to have in charge. Thus, I find Garon and Validar to be bigger offenders because I feel that they do not achieve what the story writers tried to make them out to be. They are supposed to have bigger roles in their respective stories, but their performances leave a lot to be desired. Desmond's performance, on the other hand, is right on the mark - he is every bit the detestable villainous scumbag he is meant to be, a role which he plays very well. On another note: Keep up the good work! I especially like how you drop in alliterations, such as "Doting yet dangerous" and "Callous yet curious", as it adds a nice touch to your presentation. Give Camilla credit, she had an abusive family who shuttered them from society and especially kept Corrin isolated. Growing up in such a gloomy and hostile environment, she felt the need to be a glimmer of hope for her own family. So I can see reasoning for her being so doting and affectionate. Faye just loves Alm.... because.
I agree despite her corrin obsession she does have an interesting backstory and is shown to be doting towards others, not just corrin, as well as a very sadistic side which makes her more three dimensional.
What I find funny is that Faye COULD have been a good character if the designers didn't treat her as filler; but then adding filler into a REMAKE isn't exactly unfamiliar; *cough cough* Shadow dragon *cough*. That's just how I see it

Even though you did the best job explaining why you don't like Corrin (Which is more than what I can say for literally every single other FETuber), I be hard pressed to say Corrin lacks development. In Birthright, she starts to grow an animosity for Nohr and it takes her army going to a local Nohrian town to gain context of how even Nohrians are affected negatively by the war. In Conquest, her ideals of not killing are challenged (to be fair, Iago had her on a tight leash) and even broken near the end of the game because of being forced to watch innocent people die so often. She learns there are some people that deserve to die because they are that much of a detriment to the world. In Revelation, Corrin learns from joining the armies together and going to V*lla, that she doesn't have to suffer through her feelings and conflicts alone. This comes into fruition when Corrin leads a spy away from the army knowing they couldn't be trusted without any regard to her own safety. She also learns she doesn't have to die in order to protect her allies. Like I said, words can't comprehend how I grateful I am of you taking the time to explain why you don't like Corrin. And you didn't just devolve to throwing cheap buzzwords every 5 seconds.
If the narrative and character interactions were written better, I think Corrin could have been one the best lords in the series. The Mary Su treatment from other characters and questionable plot points really bring down Corrin's character as a whole.
Fates has a shit story but Corrin is actually a very well developed character. The main issue is that he is a soft and naive boy in a franchise where the fandom is mostly interested in waifus, thots, and burly men.
Not a problem dude, I try to always look at both sides of the spectrum so I'm not going to shy away from things I like about Corrin and I did personally feel conquest did the best job at developing him/her as a charater, but that's just me.

Faye's problem comes from a lack of supports and screen time. I feel that she and Kliff should have been in the majority of cutscenes like Grey and Tobin were. Allowing Celica to recruit them only really hurt in the long run. They're not much help to her anyway.

Well there is one redeemable thing about Makalov. His death quote and him bringing flowers to Marcia's grave when you support with Astrid but Marcia died. It's very small but it shows that there is some side of him that is still wanting to do the right thing.
I agree with most of these entries with the exception that I like Corrin as a character granted I understand that Corrin has flaws, but much like Celica and Erika, who I also like, I feel that those flaws make Corrin feel human and I enjoyed her in Warriors and even Conquest. Other than Corrin, I agree that Bartre is not worth using in Blazing Sword, Faye should have had better supports, Garon’s backstory should have been more established, Valdiar should have had more depth than just being Robin’s Father, Meg should have been in a game with support conversations, Desmond is the worst father ever, those 2 cowards from Binding Blade should have just been killed by the wyvern general’s at this point, as for Izuka I think Tibarn said it best “I can’t kill him enough times for what he has done”, and finally for Makolov all I can say is that between him and Lekein, Astrid needs to find a boyfriend that is not a complete scum.

When it comes to overall hateability, yeah there isn't a more awful being than Izuka, but at least his writing is consistent and the way everyone treats him makes sense (apart from Pelleas, but I consider that more a knock against Pelleas). But I think Garon is way more shoddily written. We don't see when he used to be a good guy and everyone, especially Xander, continues to have blind faith in him for no reason. If he had a little more depth to him than "corrupted and evil", there wouldn't be such a stark good/evil dichotomy between Hoshido and Nohr, and it would make Corrin's choice more nuanced. I believe Garon had the most wasted potential and laziest writing, making him the worst character. Okay, maybe second after Makalov.

This was very entertaining to watch XD the only character I really can’t stand is Rudolf, Alm’s dad. It’s just really f***ed up what he did to Alm and also how he led Berkut to believe he would be inheriting the throne all the while knowing Alm was ultimately going to take his place. In a way, he’s a big reason for Berkut’s fate/obsessive aggression and partly to blame for giving Berkut even more reason to hate Alm. Rudolf is like “I wanted it to be you who killed me, Alm. Oh by the way, I’m your father. Also, you’re next in line for the Rigelian throne... you’re welcome.” Like WHAT THE F MAN?? I feel so bad for Alm tbh. Oh yeah, and I find it funny that we sometimes have such differing opinions on favorite characters; Bartre, Corrin, and Faye are some of my favorites. Although I feel similar distaste for the rest of your picks as well. And Zephiel is my FAVORITE villain of the FE franchise... I love his character so much; Narcian and Berkut are not far behind though 👌👌
While it makes me sad, I don't mind and understand that hate Faye gets, as she has many flaws, and isn't deep in any way. But... "hostile to others for moronic reasons"? "unjustified obsession"? I don't think those points are correct. For the 1st point, gossip usually isn't a good act, and I find it perfectly normal for Faye to be put off by someone she only recently met start gossiping about her friends. I sure wouldn't like that, and as I'm not a fan of gossip myself, I understand her reaction. Granted, she could have answered Silque with less annoyance in her voice, but the point stands. As for her B support, I'd say Faye's reluctance makes even more sense, considering the one Silque is offering to gossip is Alm. Considering Faye's obsession over Alm, it makes sense she wouldn't want to gossip about him behind his back. If she's got anything to say about/to him, do it while he's there. Another thing to consider are the messages of Echoes, one of which is progress vs stagnation. Celica represents moving forward, while Faye represents the status quo, and their personalities back that up. Having her not accept Silque until later plays off that, and keep Faye consistant. For the 2nd point, I guess it's more subjective, but the events of the Prologue + the fact she prefers things to not change and believed they would always remain in Ram (and had no reason to think otherwise), I feel makes her obsession justified, to some extent at least. I see the event of almost getting killed by Slayde as traumatizing for Faye, even moreso considering she was the first target. Out of the kids, Faye's the one who was grabbed by Slayde's men, and Slayde was literally about to chop her head off when Alm arrived, and his attention drifted. Right before the Prologue battle, Faye and Kliff are the most terrified and can't stop crying. Alm's intervention is what stopped Slayde from killing Faye. It's hinted she already loved Alm before then, but since he pretty much saved her life, and was the most courageous of all the kids, inspiring courage in them, Faye's love for him naturally increased hundredfold. Faye has several problems, stemming from both her personality and Echoes' general lack of supports for half the cast. Her base conversation in Act 3 is borderline ill-intentioned, and she says "Alm" a couple dozen times too much for my taste. However, I can't help but think the hate she gets, while justified, is often overblown. Sorry for the wall of text. Great video.
God you hit the nail on the head with Garron and Validar. It is one thing to be a one note monster, as that can be fun in its own right and can make a great imposing threat to have to destroy (see so many other Fire Emblem bad guys who are about as deep as kiddie pools but are still super memorable and fun) but both of them screw it up. They are not even fun to hate like Gangrel or Hans. They are that unitresting.
Arcardo, Roatz, and Desmond may not be likeable characters, but personally I think they are still "good" characters in the way that they have clearly defined personalities that are consistent throughout the game. The other "worst" characters in this list are one-dimensional, unrealistic and poorly developed, so I don't think these three fit with the others.
If I could like a video one thousand times I would. Makalov is my least favourite character in FE and the only one I actually hate. I usually just ignore characters I'm not a fan of, never outright hating them, but Makalov was introduced to me during a very difficult time. How is peri not on this list? Her psychopathic attitude is bad enough, but her supports make other better characters look worse with about one or two exceptions! If someone can give me a redeeming quality that has to do with her CHARACTER and not her abilities in combat, I’d love to hear it.
About Validar's presence in FE Warriors. I think it's mostly because the writers were lazy and didn't want to create a unique moveset for any of the villains who were never planned to be playable anyway, so why bother. But they then proceeded to take that laziness even further by having all of the non-OG villains all be Robin clones. So they picked the evil spellcasters of each installment that the game focused on. Basically, the choice of villains in FE Warriors can be summed up in four simple words : *They just didn't care*

My very quick list and why:10. Lucina: Marth three, and also, she is completely inconsequential to Awakening's already subpar story. You could remove her entirely, and the story would barely change, if at all. She is flat (personality-wise), and doesn't do anything of value. 9. Nowi: Jail-Bait7.Validar: Cartoony.Garon: Wasted potential.Iago: So Cartoony that he is flat out, a joke.Xander: He is completely incoherent. The way he acts and the way he speaks do not match.Corrin: Worst main character in the franchise. He is not very smart, and because he represents you, it makes him that much more infuriating. They write him to be a mary sue, but he fails even at that.Peri: She makes absolutely no sense. While I have a friend that really likes her, her existence is a paradox. She doesn't fit in the story and setting that she is in. The fact that she works Under Xander makes no sense. She is also not redeemed by the fact that she bakes cakes.1. While I dislike her, it is more her "influence" that rubs me the wrong way.The reason i do not mind Faye as much is because the characters around her actually acknowledge how deranged her mindset is. She even gets rejected. It makes it at the very least feel more normal. People not batting an eye at Camilla's weird behaviour is strange to me. While I am not the biggest fan of Tharja, at least, people do question her behaviour.

I agree with most of your list, but I would personally like to add Nyna to that list. The reason Nyna is probably my least favorite character is because of her attitude throughout both her games. At first she seems to be somewhat collected and acts as a support for Marth and Hardin. However, when it comes time to face Camus her entire facade drops and she shows herself to be an exceedingly selfish person the majority of the time. She not only risks the fate of her kingdom by marching out onto the battlefield against an extremely powerful foe, but does not even try to respect the wishes of Camus to serve his country until the end while also shoving the selfish request on Marth to try and spare his life, which Marth is just not in the position to do. Even if Camus's decision was a poor one, she refused to respect his decision and then proceeds to blame a fictional curse for the choices Camus made, instead of even trying to understand them. Now, she does have a redeeming moment or two. It's sweet of her to push Marth to confess to Caeda, and it is revealed in FE12 that she did not consider Marth as a potential husband because she did not want to push Marth to marry her due to his sense of duty and break Caeda's heart. Unfortunately, this act of bravery and kindness means nothing after what she does to Hardin. Political marriages have always been a thing, and more often than not only one of the two actually have feelings for one another. I get that. But Nyna is the one who particularly chooses Hardin, knowing how much he loves her, and then proceeds to not even attempt to show him the affection he deserves after all he does for her and her people. She isn't even honest with him about why she doesn't show him affection, and this makes Hardin spiral down hard as he thinks it's his fault. Hardin should never have accepted the dark orb from Gharnef, but it is arguable that the one who pushed Hardin into that very situation was Nyna, meaning the War of Heroes and the deaths of thousands are because she wanted to act like a good ruler and wife but didn't follow through at all. Even Camus ends up moving on with Tatiana, because he accepts reality that their time together was over and Tatiana had earned his love. It's actually kind of fitting that she abdicates the throne to Marth and ends up alone, because to be honest she kind of deserved it after all she did. I personally feel 0 guilt if I kill her during the FE12 endgame, won't lie. She's my Makalov.
I don't get why you chose villains who are supposed to be despised or hated. Garon and Valibar makes sense because they are terribly written and all, but Desmond and Izuka actually do their respective job at being hated villains even if they feel two dimensional. Some characters are made to do specific things and even if you find it horrible or not that's stuff that keep you invested in the story and want to bring them to an end. In Makalov's case, however, he is suppose to be a good guy, but shows absolutely no redeeming qualities compared to how many bad things he does. Oliver is a fat bishop that's obsessed with Heron and keeps coming back because it is apparently funny, but this guy is supposed to be a villain turning into a good guy and...yeah we don't really have anything that shows he is a good person. Point is, I feel you mixed worst characters and worse human being. And if you feel like Izuka does terrible things, Manfroy is worse.
In my opinion, Desmond's reasoning for the extremely over the top ways he tortured were actually moronic. "POISONING YOUR SON! REALLY!?" He was just an average guy who only hates his son because of insecurity and paranoia and not true malice, not even seeing Zephiel only excels because of his admiration of his father, not natural skill. He's not evil, he's just a bitch. That's not just a bad character, but a horrible person too, and he did make the disclaimer that some of his choices were also on their actions, not just writing, and personalities are a part of a character in general, otherwise, Sonya, Gharnef, Ashnard, and Xander would all be on this list too if it was so black and white. TV Tropes lists him under Asshole Victim as well, one of the most hated tropes period.

The point of this character was to show what made Zephiel a villain in the first place and he does his job well considering nobody likes him and you sympathize with Zephiel. That's not a bad character because he does fulfill his role in the story and you can easily understand his motivation. I just feel this list of bad characters started with actual bad ones and then was interrupted with those you're not even suppose to like. While it might sound that characters like Faye would get a pass because of my argument of "that's the goal of this character", it doesnt excuse the fact that as a character you're supposed to root for she doesnt have ANYTHING apart from her obsession with Alm. Other characters like Catria and Cordelia have shown more to them than just their one sided agenda, so why cant Faye have anything we can relate to?

Desmond is just a weakling and nothing else and no one likes him because he's basically just Makalov is to Marcia and Astrid. He's not evil, just unbearably irresponsible. There's a difference. I kind of like the concept behind Garon and how disappointing he was than I remember that the Garon we knew for most of them game was a puppet using his corpse controlled by the true villain. This might sound odd but did we really know Garon or just the minion of the Deep Dragon using his body as a shell?

Worst character to me is Roy. Not only does he receive no development in the game whatsoever, has the stock standard idealist personality (if you can call it that), he is also an infuriating unit. Unlike Fiona, Meg and others of the same calibre, he's not optional. He is always there whether you want him or not. His personality isn't as poor as other characters but they grow to me as I play the game. Even a Makalov is fighting alongside the good guys, fights for Elincia and Crimea and sticks to the army.... Roy doesn't fight however. He sits on some else's saddle for 70% of the game. He is that aristocrat who gives orders but wouldn't do anything himself, being a burden for the person carrying him around even. Roy's presence even reaches over and makes another character on the battlefield worse! However, put him down and it rains ballistae bolt and magic on him. The other 30% isn't even good in contrast. He is outclassed by the cavaliers in every way possible without even considering the perks they have as mounted units. When he starts to be decent, he is even more of a burden... as every time he actually does partake in combat, he wastes experience, a limited resource in Fire Emblem due to his 'late' promotion. The story states that he is the commander though, the leader! His personal weapon is amazing but has only 20 uses. If you want to train him for the last 3 chapters, you have to resort to a weaker weapon, basically putting him into the place that he started the game at. Sure, he performs better against dragons but they are a joke anyways and so is the final boss. I know this is all very gameplay oriented but what happens on the battlefield does support what is told between them. Being a weak lord (probably the weakest) is not doing him any favour in that regard... maybe a personality would have done him a favour. (I know, it's all a little bit ironic)

The manga actually shows that a part of his old self is still there and fighting to regain control of himself from Anankos. It's only for a moment and unfortuantly the manga may not continue but it was still nice to see that.

Corrin is far more interesting to me in Conquest than in Birthright or Revelation because he/she's actually the Camus of that version. I know that people assume because Xander is Birthright's Camus that Ryoma should be Conquest's by default, but in reality Ryoma has absolutely no reason to join you or sympathize with you. Meanwhile, Corrin tries to avoid non-necessary deaths while fighting for Garon and should have been on Hoshido's side or with nobody because the third options doesn't make much sense for a main Lord. Unless, like I said, Corrin is actually a Camus main character.

I feel like Meg suffered from the unfortunate no proper support in Radiant Dawn, and I think she does fit in well in the world. She by no means is a bad unit for me when I train her up, and I believe in the fact that she is amongst the bravest of the units, she is a farmer's girl who went to find love and instead fought for the fate of the world and not even once backed down or thought nope! She stood by Micaiah and Sothe, and did her best. (I also think Corrin was great in Fire Emblem Warriors, and I love the Corrin design it's just big shame they dropped the ball, otherwise I really like them xD) Oh yeah and Makalov is just ....urgh, I even used him once in the Endgame of Radiant Dawn because I wanted to see how he would perform.
hopefully, should the tellius games be remade, there might be a way for characters to have a voice post-recruitment. shadows of valentia benefited a lot from it
Meg also disobeys her father when he orders her to switch sides, because she doesn't want to leave her friends down! Even Jill, aka one of the most resolute characters in the series by the end of Path or Radiance, is easily convinced to defect by Haar.
Meg lacks characterization for sure and is one of the worst units in RD, but we're still given enough to see who she is and what she values. She just walked on her own all the way from Crimea to Daein just to meet Zihark for Pete's sake.
She's one of the purest character in FE, but I guess that doesn't come across as well when you're not a cute girl wearing a miniskirt.

I think it's a matter or case of further exploration of the Character's background to get that admiration. This is something Radiant Dawn's potential remake to improve on.
Gannon is the worst to me since of the waisted potential we could have seen what he was like before being turned evil and we would have known why Xander respects him also imagine when you fight him his realself comes out and thanks Corrin and the others for saving him that would have been much better in my opinion

I don't know about Xander respecting him- I haven't finished playing Conquest yet, but the way the Nohrian siblings all talk so casually about potentially being killed for disobeying (a scene comes to mind, maybe around Ch 14. where Xander immediately volunteered to be executed instead of Corrin) makes me think Xander, Camilla and Leo are constantly walking on eggshells, giving the impression that they're obediently following Garon's every order. I can't remember where I read it, but I remember reading that Xander thought his father was the most terrifying person he'd ever met.
It's not like any of them could flee. Where would the Nohr siblings go? They can't go to Hoshido for obvious reasons, anywhere in or near Nohr is off the table because Iago and that other guy who's name I can't be bothered to remember can easily monitor them and track them down. Xander, being the oldest and the crown prince, would likely be under the most scrutiny for any sign of wavering loyalty. Given how Garon's first move was to execute Corrin under suspicion of being a Hoshidan spy, anyone with a functional self preservation instinct would put on an air of fanatical nationalism and sing the praises of the guy who's your father, but also wouldn't hesitate to execute you for the slightest transgression.
It speaks volumes to the weaknesses of Fates' writing as a whole that I had to go to such lengths to guess a major character's motivation for defending a merciless dictator, and yet I find the Nohrian siblings far more interesting because of this dynamic between them and Garon.
But Gannondorf is the perfect villain!
I feel like RD did Meg and the entire Dawn Brigade dirty with absolutely no character development. I kinda liked Izuka since his actions make more sense when you take into consideration that he's not really on Daein's side. And you get to kill him which was great. For Makalov... Yeah at least you get some free stuff from him.
In my opinion Faye's overall appearance is what makes her more of a terrifying character. I mean at face value she seems very approachable and welcoming, only to realize to late the underlying insanity within.
Camilla and Tharja's appearances match well to their personalities, and highlights their occupation and intimidating demeanor that makes them seem dangerous. That doesn't mean Tharja nor Camilla don't have their soft sides if someone looks deeper, but their more darkest behaviors are displayed upfront, that show's honesty and open they both are in truth to their nature.
Faye, is the equivalent of a psychopath hiding her real nature, appearing as a 'normal' village peasant woman that any poor soul, especially Alm, can asossiat with, only to realize too late the obsessive, harsh monster that lies within.
If the writers where a bit more self aware fire emblem could of had its first ever yandere would have made her a more interesting character
Faye and Lukas(My BOOOOOOOOOOOOY-) are drastically and really well written sociopaths. The main difference though is the writers know Lukas is one, and write around that while making him a sympathetic and good person _AND_ character, while with Faye, the writers don't seem to realize she's a sociopath and forgot to actually write around that lol

Ah, Stella... no only had your name changed to Astrid for absolutely no reason whatsoever, you were the indisputable best archer and one of the best mounted units in your debut game, with great support with Sothe and a rather tragic backstory, considering you were supposed to marry Lekain, making your decision to run away and join a war you had no business in, but quickly leveling up and growing to be an integral part of the team for many players all that more compelling, only to be completely cast aside as a delusional battered house wife to a good for nothing drunk gambler and a rather useless unit whose Elite/Paragon skill and even data transfer stats increase aren't enough to make you a valuable unit or character...

Honestly, the main issue with Corrin isn’t them, it’s how their treated within their own game.
the Reason for fate's sloppy story, is because the writers where trying to achieve too much with not enough time. Intelligents Systems had an idea for Fate to have three stories to appeal to everyone, but they realized that they didn't have enough writers. So they hired an outside writer, Shin Kibayashi was that writer. Nintendo wanted Shin to write the outline for each pathway, what happened instead is that Shin wrote 500 pages for each pathway. Nintendo knew this was too long so they cut the story into pieces without the writers permission and the fact the Nintendo demanded Fates come on the Fire Emblem Anniversary only made things worse. Which resulted in this hilariously mess of a story. The good news this that there is a manga based on Fates that is a little better. Its called Fire Emblem If: the Crown of Niberlung.
Desmond doesn't really bother me, and I think the reason why is because I feel that his being a scumbag is kind of the point the story writers were going for. Though the story of Desmond and Zephiel is just a subplot in FE 7, I believe it does a good job telling a believable story how Zephiel reached the point of no return in distrusting and despising humanity by the time FE 6 takes place.
I can definitely believe the tale of an upright, promising young man turning completely bitter in his older years due to his father - whom he desperately wants to be appreciated by - trying to kill him out of envy and paranoia. I can also believe a story about a king who, knowing that his personal traits are merely average and are overshadowed by those of his prodigious son, becomes paranoid that he will be overthrown and replaced by his son, whom the people would reasonably be eager to have in charge.
Thus, I find Garon and Validar to be bigger offenders because I feel that they do not achieve what the story writers tried to make them out to be. They are supposed to have bigger roles in their respective stories, but their performances leave a lot to be desired. Desmond's performance, on the other hand, is right on the mark - he is every bit the detestable villainous scumbag he is meant to be, a role which he plays very well.
On another note: Keep up the good work! I especially like how you drop in alliterations, such as "Doting yet dangerous" and "Callous yet curious", as it adds a nice touch to your presentation.

Give Camilla credit, she had an abusive family who shuttered them from society and especially kept Corrin isolated. Growing up in such a gloomy and hostile environment, she felt the need to be a glimmer of hope for her own family. So I can see reasoning for her being so doting and affectionate.

I agree despite her corrin obsession she does have an interesting backstory and is shown to be doting towards others, not just corrin, as well as a very sadistic side which makes her more three dimensional.

Even though you did the best job explaining why you don't like Corrin (Which is more than what I can say for literally every single other FETuber), I be hard pressed to say Corrin lacks development.
In Birthright, she starts to grow an animosity for Nohr and it takes her army going to a local Nohrian town to gain context of how even Nohrians are affected negatively by the war. In Conquest, her ideals of not killing are challenged (to be fair, Iago had her on a tight leash) and even broken near the end of the game because of being forced to watch innocent people die so often. She learns there are some people that deserve to die because they are that much of a detriment to the world. In Revelation, Corrin learns from joining the armies together and going to V*lla, that she doesn't have to suffer through her feelings and conflicts alone. This comes into fruition when Corrin leads a spy away from the army knowing they couldn't be trusted without any regard to her own safety. She also learns she doesn't have to die in order to protect her allies.
Like I said, words can't comprehend how I grateful I am of you taking the time to explain why you don't like Corrin. And you didn't just devolve to throwing cheap buzzwords every 5 seconds.
If the narrative and character interactions were written better, I think Corrin could have been one the best lords in the series. The Mary Su treatment from other characters and questionable plot points really bring down Corrin's character as a whole.

Fates has a shit story but Corrin is actually a very well developed character. The main issue is that he is a soft and naive boy in a franchise where the fandom is mostly interested in waifus, thots, and burly men.
Not a problem dude, I try to always look at both sides of the spectrum so I'm not going to shy away from things I like about Corrin and I did personally feel conquest did the best job at developing him/her as a charater, but that's just me.

Faye's problem comes from a lack of supports and screen time. I feel that she and Kliff should have been in the majority of cutscenes like Grey and Tobin were. Allowing Celica to recruit them only really hurt in the long run. They're not much help to her anyway.

Well there is one redeemable thing about Makalov. His death quote and him bringing flowers to Marcia's grave when you support with Astrid but Marcia died. It's very small but it shows that there is some side of him that is still wanting to do the right thing.
I agree with most of these entries with the exception that I like Corrin as a character granted I understand that Corrin has flaws, but much like Celica and Erika, who I also like, I feel that those flaws make Corrin feel human and I enjoyed her in Warriors and even Conquest. Other than Corrin, I agree that Bartre is not worth using in Blazing Sword, Faye should have had better supports, Garon’s backstory should have been more established, Valdiar should have had more depth than just being Robin’s Father, Meg should have been in a game with support conversations, Desmond is the worst father ever, those 2 cowards from Binding Blade should have just been killed by the wyvern general’s at this point, as for Izuka I think Tibarn said it best “I can’t kill him enough times for what he has done”, and finally for Makolov all I can say is that between him and Lekein, Astrid needs to find a boyfriend that is not a complete scum.

When it comes to overall hateability, yeah there isn't a more awful being than Izuka, but at least his writing is consistent and the way everyone treats him makes sense (apart from Pelleas, but I consider that more a knock against Pelleas). But I think Garon is way more shoddily written. We don't see when he used to be a good guy and everyone, especially Xander, continues to have blind faith in him for no reason. If he had a little more depth to him than "corrupted and evil", there wouldn't be such a stark good/evil dichotomy between Hoshido and Nohr, and it would make Corrin's choice more nuanced. I believe Garon had the most wasted potential and laziest writing, making him the worst character. Okay, maybe second after Makalov.
Meg's character design is easily one of my favorites in the series. Extremely sad that it was wasted on such a mediocre character.

This was very entertaining to watch XD the only character I really can’t stand is Rudolf, Alm’s dad. It’s just really f***ed up what he did to Alm and also how he led Berkut to believe he would be inheriting the throne all the while knowing Alm was ultimately going to take his place. In a way, he’s a big reason for Berkut’s fate/obsessive aggression and partly to blame for giving Berkut even more reason to hate Alm. Rudolf is like “I wanted it to be you who killed me, Alm. Oh by the way, I’m your father. Also, you’re next in line for the Rigelian throne... you’re welcome.” Like WHAT THE F MAN?? I feel so bad for Alm tbh.
Oh yeah, and I find it funny that we sometimes have such differing opinions on favorite characters; Bartre, Corrin, and Faye are some of my favorites. Although I feel similar distaste for the rest of your picks as well. And Zephiel is my FAVORITE villain of the FE franchise... I love his character so much; Narcian and Berkut are not far behind though 👌👌

I can't tell if you're ranking this based on how they're written, or how evil of a character they're supposed to be.
While it makes me sad, I don't mind and understand that hate Faye gets, as she has many flaws, and isn't deep in any way.
But... "hostile to others for moronic reasons"? "unjustified obsession"? I don't think those points are correct.
For the 1st point, gossip usually isn't a good act, and I find it perfectly normal for Faye to be put off by someone she only recently met start gossiping about her friends. I sure wouldn't like that, and as I'm not a fan of gossip myself, I understand her reaction. Granted, she could have answered Silque with less annoyance in her voice, but the point stands. As for her B support, I'd say Faye's reluctance makes even more sense, considering the one Silque is offering to gossip is Alm. Considering Faye's obsession over Alm, it makes sense she wouldn't want to gossip about him behind his back. If she's got anything to say about/to him, do it while he's there. Another thing to consider are the messages of Echoes, one of which is progress vs stagnation. Celica represents moving forward, while Faye represents the status quo, and their personalities back that up. Having her not accept Silque until later plays off that, and keep Faye consistant.
For the 2nd point, I guess it's more subjective, but the events of the Prologue + the fact she prefers things to not change and believed they would always remain in Ram (and had no reason to think otherwise), I feel makes her obsession justified, to some extent at least. I see the event of almost getting killed by Slayde as traumatizing for Faye, even moreso considering she was the first target. Out of the kids, Faye's the one who was grabbed by Slayde's men, and Slayde was literally about to chop her head off when Alm arrived, and his attention drifted. Right before the Prologue battle, Faye and Kliff are the most terrified and can't stop crying. Alm's intervention is what stopped Slayde from killing Faye. It's hinted she already loved Alm before then, but since he pretty much saved her life, and was the most courageous of all the kids, inspiring courage in them, Faye's love for him naturally increased hundredfold.
Faye has several problems, stemming from both her personality and Echoes' general lack of supports for half the cast. Her base conversation in Act 3 is borderline ill-intentioned, and she says "Alm" a couple dozen times too much for my taste. However, I can't help but think the hate she gets, while justified, is often overblown.

God you hit the nail on the head with Garron and Validar. It is one thing to be a one note monster, as that can be fun in its own right and can make a great imposing threat to have to destroy (see so many other Fire Emblem bad guys who are about as deep as kiddie pools but are still super memorable and fun) but both of them screw it up. They are not even fun to hate like Gangrel or Hans. They are that unitresting.

Arcardo, Roatz, and Desmond may not be likeable characters, but personally I think they are still "good" characters in the way that they have clearly defined personalities that are consistent throughout the game. The other "worst" characters in this list are one-dimensional, unrealistic and poorly developed, so I don't think these three fit with the others.
If I could like a video one thousand times I would. Makalov is my least favourite character in FE and the only one I actually hate. I usually just ignore characters I'm not a fan of, never outright hating them, but Makalov was introduced to me during a very difficult time. Not only is he a shitty character but he reminds me of memories I'd rather forget. 0/1000000 >:l

About Validar's presence in FE Warriors. I think it's mostly because the writers were lazy and didn't want to create a unique moveset for any of the villains who were never planned to be playable anyway, so why bother.
But they then proceeded to take that laziness even further by having all of the non-OG villains all be Robin clones. So they picked the evil spellcasters of each installment that the game focused on.
Basically, the choice of villains in FE Warriors can be summed up in four simple words : *They just didn't care*
Also, his Japanese voice actor Takehito Koyasu also voices Navarre and Niles, so it may have been for convenience, too.

My very quick list and why:10. Lucina: Marth three, and also, she is completely inconsequential to Awakening's already subpar story. You could remove her entirely, and the story would barely change, if at all. She is flat (personality-wise), and doesn't do anything of value. 9. Nyna: The way she treated Hardin was flat-out disgusting8. Nowi: Jail-Bait7.Validar: Cartoony.Garon: Wasted potential.Iago: So Cartoony that he is flat out, a joke.Xander: He is completely incoherent. The way he acts and the way he speaks do not match.Corrin: Worst main character in the franchise. He is not very smart, and because he represents you, it makes him that much more infuriating. They write him to be a mary sue, but he fails even at that.Peri: She makes absolutely no sense. While I have a friend that really likes her, her existence is a paradox. She doesn't fit in the story and setting that she is in. The fact that she works Under Xander makes no sense. She is also not redeemed by the fact that she bakes cakes.1. Camilla: I have many reasons to dislike Camilla. I do not feel that she is a well-developped character, and I honestly find her obsession with her younger brother (especially in a sexual way) to be downright creepy. I am not into the whole "Motherly lover" play. It disgusts me to my very core. Sadly enough, Camilla is so blatantly oversexualized (even in cutscenes), that it would prevent any legitimate character-building, if there was any in the first place. She also represents a direction in the Fire Emblem series that I am not very fond of. The obsession with characters with an overplayed personality quirk that makes up almost all of that character's basic interactions is something that I cannot get behind, especially after playing Tellius and Valentia games, which excelled at creating great multifaceted characters for the most part. While I dislike her, it is more her "influence" that rubs me the wrong way.The reason i do not mind Faye as much is because the characters around her actually acknowledge how deranged her mindset is. She even gets rejected. It makes it at the very least feel more normal. People not batting an eye at Camilla's weird behaviour is strange to me. While I am not the biggest fan of Tharja, at least, people do question her behaviour.

HOLY SHIT!!! Makalov died so mercilessly that I have the best way to kill him. Play fire emblem path of radiance. Max out his stats as well as all enemies in chapter 14 Training, leave him with 1 HP, and have Marcia kill him with the weakest weapon ever. Then showcase a death reel of him dying 50 times LMAO

I agree with most of your list, but I would personally like to add Nyna to that list. The reason Nyna is probably my least favorite character is because of her attitude throughout both her games. At first she seems to be somewhat collected and acts as a support for Marth and Hardin. However, when it comes time to face Camus her entire facade drops and she shows herself to be an exceedingly selfish person the majority of the time. She not only risks the fate of her kingdom by marching out onto the battlefield against an extremely powerful foe, but does not even try to respect the wishes of Camus to serve his country until the end while also shoving the selfish request on Marth to try and spare his life, which Marth is just not in the position to do. Even if Camus's decision was a poor one, she refused to respect his decision and then proceeds to blame a fictional curse for the choices Camus made, instead of even trying to understand them.
Now, she does have a redeeming moment or two. It's sweet of her to push Marth to confess to Caeda, and it is revealed in FE12 that she did not consider Marth as a potential husband because she did not want to push Marth to marry her due to his sense of duty and break Caeda's heart. Unfortunately, this act of bravery and kindness means nothing after what she does to Hardin.
Political marriages have always been a thing, and more often than not only one of the two actually have feelings for one another. I get that. But Nyna is the one who particularly chooses Hardin, knowing how much he loves her, and then proceeds to not even attempt to show him the affection he deserves after all he does for her and her people. She isn't even honest with him about why she doesn't show him affection, and this makes Hardin spiral down hard as he thinks it's his fault. Hardin should never have accepted the dark orb from Gharnef, but it is arguable that the one who pushed Hardin into that very situation was Nyna, meaning the War of Heroes and the deaths of thousands are because she wanted to act like a good ruler and wife but didn't follow through at all. Even Camus ends up moving on with Tatiana, because he accepts reality that their time together was over and Tatiana had earned his love. It's actually kind of fitting that she abdicates the throne to Marth and ends up alone, because to be honest she kind of deserved it after all she did. I personally feel 0 guilt if I kill her during the FE12 endgame, won't lie. She's my Makalov.
Thanks for reminding me how much I despise her. She just came off as whiny, self-centered, and needlessly angsty when it came to Camus.
I don't get why you chose villains who are supposed to be despised or hated. Garon and Valibar makes sense because they are terribly written and all, but Desmond and Izuka actually do their respective job at being hated villains even if they feel two dimensional. Some characters are made to do specific things and even if you find it horrible or not that's stuff that keep you invested in the story and want to bring them to an end. In Makalov's case, however, he is suppose to be a good guy, but shows absolutely no redeeming qualities compared to how many bad things he does. Oliver is a fat bishop that's obsessed with Heron and keeps coming back because it is apparently funny, but this guy is supposed to be a villain turning into a good guy and...yeah we don't really have anything that shows he is a good person.
Point is, I feel you mixed worst characters and worse human being. And if you feel like Izuka does terrible things, Manfroy is worse.
In my opinion, Desmond's reasoning for the extremely over the top ways he tortured were actually moronic. "POISONING YOUR SON! REALLY!?" He was just an average guy who only hates his son because of insecurity and paranoia and not true malice, not even seeing Zephiel only excels because of his admiration of his father, not natural skill. He's not evil, he's just a bitch. That's not just a bad character, but a horrible person too, and he did make the disclaimer that some of his choices were also on their actions, not just writing, and personalities are a part of a character in general, otherwise, Sonya, Gharnef, Ashnard, and Xander would all be on this list too if it was so black and white. TV Tropes lists him under Asshole Victim as well, one of the most hated tropes period.
@@yusifudo46 despite being over the top you still get why he wants to kill his son. The point of this character was to show what made Zephiel a villain in the first place and he does his job well considering nobody likes him and you sympathize with Zephiel. That's not a bad character because he does fulfill his role in the story and you can easily understand his motivation.
I just feel this list of bad characters started with actual bad ones and then was interrupted with those you're not even suppose to like.
While it might sound that characters like Faye would get a pass because of my argument of "that's the goal of this character", it doesnt excuse the fact that as a character you're supposed to root for she doesnt have ANYTHING apart from her obsession with Alm. Other characters like Catria and Cordelia have shown more to them than just their one sided agenda, so why cant Faye have anything we can relate to?

Sonya (Nino's adoptive mother) is exactly the same way, but gets cool points (and other Black Fang members) as she does by actually having villainous intent and actual makes good on her threats and capabilities, along with actually being cunning. Desmond is just a weakling and nothing else and no one likes him because he's basically just Makalov is to Marcia and Astrid. He's not evil, just unbearably irresponsible. There's a difference. Even his wife gets over on him.

As cliche and over done as Faye is, at least it feels like there was some closure with Alm's A support.
I kind of like the concept behind Garon and how disappointing he was than I remember that the Garon we knew for most of them game was a puppet using his corpse controlled by the true villain. This might sound odd but did we really know Garon or just the minion of the Deep Dragon using his body as a shell?
This video makes me want to to work on my Fire Emblem Fates rewrite some more. It's unfortunately been stagnant lately due to how busy I've been. But maybe I could work on it again and start adding some stuff.
the Reason for fate's sloppy story, is because the writers where trying to achieve too much with not enough time. Intelligents Systems had an idea for Fate to have three stories to appeal to everyone, but they realized that they didn't have enough writers. So they hired an outside writer, Shin Kibayashi was that writer. Nintendo wanted Shin to write the outline for each pathway, what happened instead is that Shin wrote 500 pages for each pathway. Nintendo knew this was too long so they cut the story into pieces without the writers permission and the fact the Nintendo demanded Fates come on the Fire Emblem Anniversary only made things worse. Which resulted in this hilariously mess of a story. The good news this that there is a manga based on Fates that is a little better. Its called Fire Emblem If: the Crown of Niberlung.

Worst character to me is Roy.
Not only does he receive no development in the game whatsoever, has the stock standard idealist personality (if you can call it that), he is also an infuriating unit. Unlike Fiona, Meg and others of the same calibre, he's not optional. He is always there whether you want him or not.
His personality isn't as poor as other characters but they grow to me as I play the game. Even a Makalov is fighting alongside the good guys, fights for Elincia and Crimea and sticks to the army.... Roy doesn't fight however. He sits on some else's saddle for 70% of the game. He is that aristocrat who gives orders but wouldn't do anything himself, being a burden for the person carrying him around even. Roy's presence even reaches over and makes another character on the battlefield worse! However, put him down and it rains ballistae bolt and magic on him. The other 30% isn't even good in contrast. He is outclassed by the cavaliers in every way possible without even considering the perks they have as mounted units. When he starts to be decent, he is even more of a burden... as every time he actually does partake in combat, he wastes experience, a limited resource in Fire Emblem due to his 'late' promotion. The story states that he is the commander though, the leader!
His personal weapon is amazing but has only 20 uses. If you want to train him for the last 3 chapters, you have to resort to a weaker weapon, basically putting him into the place that he started the game at. Sure, he performs better against dragons but they are a joke anyways and so is the final boss.
I know this is all very gameplay oriented but what happens on the battlefield does support what is told between them. Being a weak lord (probably the weakest) is not doing him any favour in that regard... maybe a personality would have done him a favour.
