Now with Engage, IS in complete control of the animations. So it will be of similar quality as past games.

Also while the game strains against the technical limitations of the 3DS the amount of polish more than compensates for it. This sense of intimacy and polish is what Three Houses doesn't have. I still think about this time 2 myrmidons fought each other with a low chance of actually hitting each other, so the whole fight was a dance of them swinging and dodge rolling around each other. It looked so cool
Something not shown in this video but that I love anyway is the Alm versus Rudolf cutscene, where after wearing Alm down and shielding several attacks, Rudolf throws away his shield to prepare to deal the final blow… And of course, when it’s Alm’s turn to deal the final attack of the game, after wearing down his opponent… he does the same. Throws aside his shield, and does an incredible jump slash to finish them off.
Honestly it's cool looking at the animations of the 3DS games. With each game they got more dynamic and cool and the models kept getting better. Awakening was trying to bring back a similar feeling to Radiant Dawn's great animations but put onto handheld and not as lengthy and a bit more energetic, then Fates refined the framework and gave us more animations specific to classes as well as a lot more distinct animations overall that harken a lot more back to the GBA games, and then you have SoV's perfection and flow with tons of different animations for different states of fighting like dodge to counter or taking minimal damage to counter and it really makes each fight exciting, even complete with dynamic and smooth camera angles and transitions for finishers and long range bow attacks. Not to mention unique victory animations for each character. SoV has yet to be matched in terms of presentation - in tons and tons of things. In that regard, I see that Three Houses is kind of the Switch's Awakening - where animations and models are more rough and there isn't really a lot of flow to the combat but it's still not bad. Meanwhile, Engage looks to be really upping the anty for animations and models. Even seem to be ditching critical/skill cut-ins for just close ups which I think will be better for combat flow. Excuse the wall of text I just love me animation! Had to gush lol
Yeah the awakening ones weren't like amazing and then fates got really cool and sov was awesome. Yeah Three Houses is kind of a stepping stone for Engage :p Oh don't apologise I love animations too :)
The animations of Echoes are definitely way better than 3 Houses despite having a less powerful system. You can really tell that they poured a lot of love into the game.
I think the animation is better BECAUSE it was a weaker system. That forced them to focus in cinematography and impact since they couldn't use fluidity, polygon count and smooth textures as the 3DS couldn't handle that. They had to nail the basics. A reason why the old chiptunes are still great today is because they are strong melodies. They had to be strong melodies cause that was all they could be. The 8 and 16 bit systems couldn't make pleasant sounds so you had to have a strong melody to make the beeps and boops from the system come across as appealing.
I knew I wasn't the only one that loved echoes' animations. You're probably the only person to upload the special final hit animations for certain classes, they are sooo smooth!
HOLY CRAP THANK YOU!! I was waiting YEARS for someone to finale make a video dedicated to Echoes battle animations, the fact that they look so natural (some are over the top but anyways) in the way the enter the battle, the way they hit, dodge and counter a failed enemy attack was so damn smooth, Echoes is definitely the best in that regard for now, but Engage looks promising in that aspect as well
Echoes is such a gem that I still play every once and a while to this day, the real shame is the price of the over classes but other than that it’s pretty perfect.
On god one of my favorite details in this games animation is when the villagers start combat by running into the fight. Its small in the grand scheme of things, but it felt way more natural then having characters being on a battlefield and starting each battle standing around and pulling their sword out of the ground
Man, I miss these; the flow of combat in this game was on another level compared to Awakening and Fates. The zoom-in, the characters rushing in with their weapons drawn, the hits, the finishing blows or critical hits, all of it flows naturally from one thing to the next.
After playing Engage and watching this again I can tell where some of the animations came from lol Still genuis they did that whole entering the battle animation where you can actually see them run into battle
The art direction in Echoes really is the best in the series. From the character portraits, to music, and animations it all looks so good. They only place I'd say it's not the best is that the prerendered cutscenes from Awakening and Fates do look better than the ones in Echoes, but that's genuinely the only area where it isn't the best
My personal favorite animations in this game are the dodge and counterattack animations. So many good ones like the paladin's horse doing a back-kick or the Baron Sparta kicking the opponent. It was great.
@@BenFM includes Alm too, though it's strange to see it used in 1 ranged attack, I wonder if it was supposed to have 2-5 range but since they already have their range weapon types, Bow & Arrow for Alm and Magic for Celica
no its insane how fluidly the horses and especially the pegasi move. like i so rarely see mounted combat look just as smooth and powerful as the infantry
The entrance and the dodge animation into straight counter attack are what make the battle animation look so good compared to other titles. It's so fluid.
Maybe a hot take but it's sad to me that celica gets so much attention and IS just forgets alms existence. I really like him and wish they'd give him some more love 😭 I hope we see him in engage in some form
I forgot that "Dread Fighters" in Echoes were *basically* ninjas. Though seeing the Yasha class for the 1st time, I see it should be "ninjas with the power of the force." 3:32-3:37 Lukas: "THIS. IS. *SPARTA!!!"*
What I LOVE about Echoes is that certain classes not only use their weapons for attacks. Like Cavalry trampling/kicking or Knights using shield bashes and kicks. Another part is how fluid some animations are. I was in awe when I first saw a myrmidon dodging by spinning sideways and then using the momentum to shield slap there opponent as a counter attack.
The base archer counterattack at 1 range is also cool, when I saw that I had a lot more respect for Tobin. I belive they do a Caulde, it's been a while.
The best part is that I'm pretty sure the combat music is synced with all these animations, so for example hits are in sync with the percussions of the songs. Same goes for parrying and counter-attacks (although you need to not speed up the animation)
@@BenFM Radiant Dawn had some swag. Like noticed in this game SOV will start combat running(or Walking in Alm and Celica case) In Dawn it's like a duel. You noticed it a lot during Ike and the Black Knight fights.
oh my god thank you so much for this video i never had most of these classes so im glad to be able to watch them...im so obsessed with lukas' animations...thank you so much!!!
Finally for the longest time I wanted to show off these animations since I didn't see anybody on RUclips showing them off but I didn't have a capture card. Hands down the best animations in the series
I recently received New 2ds as a gift from a friend and the first thing I did was download a bunch of games I was interested in, including the Fire Emblem's parts. And the first FE for which I started to play so tightly was Shadows of Valentia (since it was translated into my language). And I'm still amazed at how beautiful, smooth, mesmerizing the battles of each class and each of the characters look. Excellent sound of hits, smooth animations of dodge blocks that pass without delay into an attack or a last hit with a crit, finishers are unique for each class. The gods in this part of the animators knowingly "ate their bread." It even seems to me that at first they conducted IRL battles to calculate the best movements and skills, and then they drew animations, taking real choreography as an example.
Echoes deff got some of the cleanest looking animations in the FE series for sure. the crits are very satisfying- one of the wildest parts of all the various FE crit animations throughout most of the games in the series I've seen on youtube is how Path of Radiance's legit the only one in the entire series that doesn't even have a crit animation collection on youtube, which is incredibly weird. I'm legit still surprised how none's been done for that game even now cuz some of the crit animations in Path of Radiance were very cool, especially Ranger Ike's non-kill crit(which in itself is rare to see w/o killer weapon)
The 3DS is to 3D what the GBA was for 2D. It didn't have the most brute force and was relatively basic in it's features but it could handle most things you threw at it very quickly and fluidly.
I think it was partly due to IS not working on it but Koei are able to make some great animations too so yeah I guess just they didn't have time to not sure :/
Man this takes me back… I remember I cannot afford the dlc classes so I just used the base classes to clear the endgame dungeon. Good times spammed a lot of summons for bait which allowed my units to live lmao
I still do love how Conqueror Alm's crit just feels both natural and menacing. He's just walking toward you and just casually wrecks you in one powerful strike.
Oh wow, someone had another video about FE15 critical quotes with DLC class designs, I loved this game so much that i still play it to this day, I really love their art design and I cannot tell how awesome this remake was back in 2017. So cinematic game for a 3DS system. :)
@@BenFM Yeah, I agree with you alot it's a really a awesome remake Fire Emblem game as my one of my favorite 3DS, Fire Emblem remakes all the time, I couldn't agree more. :)

Oh no, I still remember Echoes animation to this day! BWahhaa! ... Actually, you know what was a really cool moment for me? The chapter with Blake, so a bunch of Geni's invoked soldiers were just around him, and I watched him one by one cut them down. Scary mid-boss music playing, badass Myrmidon animations just tearing them through. Blake looked so cool and I will never forget that. His flips, his counters, his swings, all while being some mid-class. Beautiful.
I havent seen most of these before since I got into echoes a little too late. But wow Alm just walking up to the dragon and slaying it in one slash, can't get any more boss than that.
I love that this game has unique victory animations for each unit that kills an enemy depending on their canon weapon. Three Houses did something similar where if you select a unit with their preferred weapon, they do this pose.
I love the Overclass classes, I actually wanted them back but as temporary class changes in battle years ago which is why I'm looking forward to the engage mechanic so much
I love how this video is all about showing off the awesome and bombastic animations of Echoes are to people, but it starts out with Catria's endearingly dry voice performance.
Phew ngl for a second I thought you were talking negatively about Catria's voice ahaha. Yeah I acc love how flat her tone is while also managing to convey prowess, confidence and emotions in general
This is my first FE and my favorite, this game conquer my heart at a point i can't never forget it. The characters (oh my god Clair, i love you), the ART, the OST, the gameplay, the swamp and desert maps, BOATS! What a MASTERPIECE.
SoV is easily one of the best "remake/mechanics " in FE history. The composition and SFX to the action models is perfect. The revival and weapon drops are fantastic
Its funny that I found this video as I have been telling people for years that echoes has the best presentation in the franchise. I think engage may now take that place, but it doesn't in any way undermine how absolutely beautiful echoes is. For the time and hardware it was incredible.

I really don't know why this game wasn't more popular. It was so damn good
Release time mainly :(
I still think about this time 2 myrmidons fought each other with a low chance of actually hitting each other, so the whole fight was a dance of them swinging and dodge rolling around each other. It looked so cool
Ahaha love that in sov
Something not shown in this video but that I love anyway is the Alm versus Rudolf cutscene, where after wearing Alm down and shielding several attacks, Rudolf throws away his shield to prepare to deal the final blow…
And of course, when it’s Alm’s turn to deal the final attack of the game, after wearing down his opponent… he does the same. Throws aside his shield, and does an incredible jump slash to finish them off.
Yeah it’s awesome! I wanted it but literally couldn’t record on my save cause Alm doesn’t do it on the replay
Man Echoes has such awesome animations
And they don't look TOOO exagerrated
And by that I mean stuff like the bone breaking movements or stale ones
Haha yeah I mean there are so many good ones
Dreadfighter animations though
Chapters:
0:00 Harrier (Falcon Knight Overclass)
0:42 Triangle Attack!
1:06 Skogul (Gold Knight Overclass)
1:29 Yasha (Dread Fighter Overclass)
2:12 Dread Fighter
2:29 Enchantress (Priestes Overclass)
3:04 Guru (Sage Overclass)
3:20 Spartan (Armoured Overclass)
3:40 Falcon Knight
4:07 Exemplar (Saint Overclass)
4:18 Rigain and Conqueror (Celica and Alm Overclasses)
5:15 Ragnarok Ω Ultimate Combat Art (Celica)
5:39 Scendscale Ultimate Combat Art (Alm)
Isn't Skogul the Gold Knight Overclass?
@@NarrowSpark96 Absolutely correct, not sure why I typed that lol! Thanks :)
IMO one of the best remakes of all time. Even the voice acting is some of the best I've heard in a long ass time
Huge agree
facts
This is my favorite game in the series for many reasons. The Story, Characters, Music and Fighting animations are really well made.
Agreed, I love it all
I have never seen the yasha's 2nd hit animation because of that classes' high crit rate. Thank you for this.
Ahaha I had to unequip his crit sword :P And my pleasure :)
Yeah Three Houses is kind of a stepping stone for Engage :p
Oh don't apologise I love animations too :)
The animations of Echoes are definitely way better than 3 Houses despite having a less powerful system. You can really tell that they poured a lot of love into the game.
Yes they're beautiful
Can’t help but love echoes! I’m happy you enjoyed seeing them :) really wanted to showcase these awesome animations
2:20 Gray's goofy expression followed by a badass execution is so damn funny for some reason
Loooool he’s dorky af and u gotta love it
In my opinion, echoes has the best animations. Each characters have their own unique pose animations which is a nice touch.
@@winterxx1555 saw the engage animations. It looks so good, it's the currently the best battle animations to date.
and they kept Alm as a Lefty, unlike Zelda's Link......
I can't stop myself playing it at least once a year it's so awesome
The raw SWAGGER from that dodge at 3:06
Dawg now I want overclass ascended Boey in Heroes
Brooo yesss. We need Mae and Boey FEH alts in any case ASAP
It's so cool to see the Yasha overclass finishing an enemy by using his mind
That move is awesome
On god one of my favorite details in this games animation is when the villagers start combat by running into the fight.
Its small in the grand scheme of things, but it felt way more natural then having characters being on a battlefield and starting each battle standing around and pulling their sword out of the ground
I love it also
Man, I miss these; the flow of combat in this game was on another level compared to Awakening and Fates. The zoom-in, the characters rushing in with their weapons drawn, the hits, the finishing blows or critical hits, all of it flows naturally from one thing to the next.
Yeees they were so good
After playing Engage and watching this again
I can tell where some of the animations came from lol
Still genuis they did that whole entering the battle animation where you can actually see them run into battle
Yeah that's true the pre rendered cutscenes are the only slightly off part
I love that most classes have special animations for attacking after dodging/blocking.
So cool
My Favorite and very underrated, heck, even each character has unique win poses.
I love the unique poses so much
My personal favorite animations in this game are the dodge and counterattack animations. So many good ones like the paladin's horse doing a back-kick or the Baron Sparta kicking the opponent. It was great.
Yeee they’re so cool
Love how Celica slashes the enemy from a distance
That badass wind attack
@@BenFM includes Alm too, though it's strange to see it used in 1 ranged attack, I wonder if it was supposed to have 2-5 range but since they already have their range weapon types, Bow & Arrow for Alm and Magic for Celica
no its insane how fluidly the horses and especially the pegasi move. like i so rarely see mounted combat look just as smooth and powerful as the infantry
It's so slick
The entrance and the dodge animation into straight counter attack are what make the battle animation look so good compared to other titles. It's so fluid.
Yeah flows so nicely
Honestly i love the slow walk of conquer alm gives the same vibes as black knights 1 range animation has.
Haha yeah badass af
Maybe a hot take but it's sad to me that celica gets so much attention and IS just forgets alms existence. I really like him and wish they'd give him some more love 😭 I hope we see him in engage in some form
He has quite a lot of alts in heroes! He'll probably be added to engage later as dlc
This video alone made me get fe echoes. I'm loving it. Please make more for other fire emblem.
Great to hear, Echoes is my favourite game :) I've got some other compilation videos like this for Engage, Fates and Three Houses too!
I forgot that "Dread Fighters" in Echoes were *basically* ninjas. Though seeing the Yasha class for the 1st time, I see it should be "ninjas with the power of the force."
3:32-3:37
Lukas: "THIS. IS. *SPARTA!!!"*
Looooool
Yeah yashas are great as well aren't they, awesome
What I LOVE about Echoes is that certain classes not only use their weapons for attacks. Like Cavalry trampling/kicking or Knights using shield bashes and kicks. Another part is how fluid some animations are. I was in awe when I first saw a myrmidon dodging by spinning sideways and then using the momentum to shield slap there opponent as a counter attack.
Yeees I love how the mounts kinda take part, feels real. So so fluid too
The base archer counterattack at 1 range is also cool, when I saw that I had a lot more respect for Tobin. I belive they do a Caulde, it's been a while.
Oh yeah it is pretty cool acc
5:00
Did he just walk up, slowly, then crit?!?!
Echoes also made bows look cool, too. Most FE games, bows are pretty underwhelming, but in Echoes they have tons of range and look cool.
The best part is that I'm pretty sure the combat music is synced with all these animations, so for example hits are in sync with the percussions of the songs. Same goes for parrying and counter-attacks (although you need to not speed up the animation)
Such a underrated gem
So underrated
underrated? nah
5:00 did he just walk up slowly and down smash?
Amazing anims, best in the series personally. Probably Engage will give it a run for its money.
Yeah Engage has SoV to beat
@@BenFM I mean Sov was beaten by Radiant Dawn
Unfortunately it did not
@@BenFM Radiant Dawn had some swag.
My pleasure ❤️ I love rewatching it as well, such cool classes
its impressive how both alm and celica are able to by raw strength defeat the enemy with air pressure generated by their swords thats dope!
So slick
Finally for the longest time I wanted to show off these animations since I didn't see anybody on RUclips showing them off but I didn't have a capture card. Hands down the best animations in the series
Happy I could help :)
Pretty sure the Pegasus finishing blow animation was reused in Engage as a crit so they're definitely aware this game ruled
They knew how slick it was
I recently received New 2ds as a gift from a friend and the first thing I did was download a bunch of games I was interested in, including the Fire Emblem's parts.
Echoes will forever be my favorite in the series.
Echoes deff got some of the cleanest looking animations in the FE series for sure. the crits are very satisfying-
one of the wildest parts of all the various FE crit animations throughout most of the games in the series I've seen on youtube is how Path of Radiance's legit the only one in the entire series that doesn't even have a crit animation collection on youtube,
which is incredibly weird.
I'm legit still surprised how none's been done for that game even now cuz some of the crit animations in Path of Radiance were very cool, especially Ranger Ike's non-kill crit(which in itself is rare to see w/o killer weapon)
Echoes walked so Engage could run, amirite
Truth
Too bad Three houses triped along the way
The 3DS is to 3D what the GBA was for 2D. It didn't have the most brute force and was relatively basic in it's features but it could handle most things you threw at it very quickly and fluidly.
I wonder why in three houses they felt like they needed to tone down the attack animations🤔
I think it was partly due to IS not working on it but Koei are able to make some great animations too so yeah I guess just they didn't have time to not sure :/
i doubt they made the conscious decision to make the animations more bland. it's probably just cause it was a different team
Echoes was the pinnacle of Fire Emblem and Im so glad to see a showcase of this beautiful game's art in a quality it deserves
❤️ I can only agree it’s the pinnacle
Echoes feels like the most polished game in the series to me.
Can only agree
Helps that it is a remake. Maybe in 10-20 years we will see a three houses with better art and animations and more complete story.
Man this takes me back… I remember I cannot afford the dlc classes so I just used the base classes to clear the endgame dungeon. Good times spammed a lot of summons for bait which allowed my units to live lmao
Haha yeah gotta abuse the invokes
echoes solos Mid houses and Mid hopes
That is some heavy ahh copium. Echoes is underrated but not that much.
Well maybe three hopes cuz that story wass ass
I still do love how Conqueror Alm's crit just feels both natural and menacing. He's just walking toward you and just casually wrecks you in one powerful strike.
It's so badass
Oh wow, someone had another video about FE15 critical quotes with DLC class designs, I loved this game so much that i still play it to this day, I really love their art design and I cannot tell how awesome this remake was back in 2017. So cinematic game for a 3DS system. :)
Yeah it's an awesome game, peak fe
@@BenFM Yeah, I agree with you alot it's a really a awesome remake Fire Emblem game as my one of my favorite 3DS, Fire Emblem remakes all the time, I couldn't agree more. :)
I like how youtube makes the title sound rude "FE Echoes has better animations than you..." 😥
Triangle Attack gives old school jrpg animations vibes and I love it
Ahahaha you wish you had as good animations as echoes ;)
😭😭
Oh no, I still remember Echoes animation to this day! BWahhaa! ... Actually, you know what was a really cool moment for me?
The chapter with Blake, so a bunch of Geni's invoked soldiers were just around him, and I watched him one by one cut them down. Scary mid-boss music playing, badass Myrmidon animations just tearing them through. Blake looked so cool and I will never forget that. His flips, his counters, his swings, all while being some mid-class. Beautiful.
Yeah he was actually a super scary boss and seeing those animations for the first time was awesome!
Literally the best in series ever, maybe not now with engage but I haven't played it yet.
5:19 FE Engage makes a lot more sense now
I havent seen most of these before since I got into echoes a little too late. But wow Alm just walking up to the dragon and slaying it in one slash, can't get any more boss than that.
Such a beast
I love that this game has unique victory animations for each unit that kills an enemy depending on their canon weapon. Three Houses did something similar where if you select a unit with their preferred weapon, they do this pose.
Conqueror Alm drawing his sword, walking up and down-smashing lives rent-free in my head.
Iconic
This game is just one massive passion project and I love it
Crits from Dread Fighter Gray is the stuff of nightmares...
Say what you will about the 3ds era of fire emblem but echoes really was something
I love the Overclass classes, I actually wanted them back but as temporary class changes in battle years ago which is why I'm looking forward to the engage mechanic so much
Yeahh I wish we'd had them in 3Houses. But engaging is kind of like an overclass isn't it!
God the game looks so good. I forgot it was in 720p 60fps.
Reminds me so much of the gba or radiant dawn crits. Wish the next game will do these kinds of animations again
Such an incredible game maybe my fav game of all time
5:00 that was WAY too smooth
🚶🏻
5:00 Alm just draws sword and walks up manacingly, absolute chad
The big boy
Man, this was the game that got me back into the series in full force.
Was so freaking good. Especially the 4-5 times I played through.
One does not simply finish echoes only once
SoV is easily one of the best "remake/mechanics " in FE history. The composition and SFX to the action models is perfect. The revival and weapon drops are fantastic
Definitely one of my favorite games. I replayed it last year upon buying Alm Amiibo and the DLC, and I am so in love.
I love that ❤️
Its funny that I found this video as I have been telling people for years that echoes has the best presentation in the franchise. I think engage may now take that place, but it doesn't in any way undermine how absolutely beautiful echoes is. For the time and hardware it was incredible.
I’m working on an engage one of this
